    About the winemakersRuffinoTuscany | Chianti

The reputation of Tenimenti Ruffino could not be better worldwide. Founded in 1877 by the two cousins Ilario and Leopoldo, the Italian wine producer cultivates grapes in the most outstanding locations of the Tuscan wine regions Chianti Classico, Montalcino and Montepulciano. Ruffino also has a branch office in Friuli with Borgo Conventi.

Since the powerful wine dynasty lacked heirs, it decided at the beginning of the 20th century to sell the property to the Folonari family, which had been producing fine wines for several generations. Today, the brothers Luigi and Adolfo Folonari are owners and managers of the famous traditional company. The brothers and sisters proudly point out that they have always combined an awareness of quality and tradition with modern progress. As one of the leading Chianti wineries, this has enabled it to assert itself against competitors and to assert itself on the global market.

Tenimenti Ruffino owns more than 1,500 hectares of land in Tuscany alone, of which 600 hectares are said to be planted with vines. Situated in Chianti-Classico near Castellina, the Santedame estate is the largest of all Tuscan estates with a total area of 246 hectares. Also from Gretole between Castellina and Poggibonsi come grapes for the Chianti Classico of the famous wine producer.

From the house of Ruffino the oak barrels of the "Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro" and the "Brunello di Montalcino" has received many awards. In 2000, the Tuscan producer dedicated his own wine to the two founders. For the "Il Leo" (the wine name is the first letter of its first name) the best Chianti grapes have been selected. In cooperation with Icon Estates, the luxury wine subsidiary of Constellation Brands, Ruffino has successfully established itself as the market leader in the Italian wine segment on the US market.
