Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2012
Deep dark red, in the fragrance black fruits, flint stone and hints of arable land. On the palate taut and precise aromas of spicy herbs, black cherry, white pepper and smoke. Very juicy-fleshy and fresh in the long finish. A full-bodied, intellectual red wine that already enchants with charisma and disarming depth. SUPERIORE.DE
"Unique aromas of blackberry, mushroom, walnut and spice follow through to a full body, yet tight and polished with firm and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Slighty dusty finish. A beauty." James Suckling
"Spiced plum, blue flower, vanilla, French oak and balsamic aromas lead the way on this firmly structured red. Full-bodied and elegant, the youthful, enveloping palate evokes blackberry, black cherry, pipe tobacco and ground clove framed in tightly knit fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

The Donnachiara winery is worth a special mention. Chiara Petitto had inherited some vineyards, which her husband Umberto, an experienced and wealthy entrepreneur from Avellino, extended by the purchase of very good sites in the mountainous hinterland of Naples, called Irpinia, and with the support of the family in a few years to a solid Campanian winegrower's business developed. What started out as a hobby has now become a resolutely run family project that focuses on consistently high quality rather than quantity in wine production in the Avellino wine region.
The expressive drops from Montefalcione, which were extended by two labels a few years ago, are a great pleasure to drink because of the very successful synthesis of terroir, local grape variety selection and wine knowledge. Today, the winery, founded in 2005, is managed by Chiaras and Umbertos strong-willed daughter Ilaria. The winemaker is supported in her work by cellar master Angelo Valentino and a young, well-trained team.
The young company Donnachiara, whose family roots go back about 150 years with the first vineyards, owns 23 hectares of vines mostly planted with Aglianico and some leased land. For Fiano, Greco and Falanghina grapes are bought from other wine houses. The young cellar master understands his profession masterfully. He succeeds again and again in producing high class wines from Fiano di Avellino and Greco di Tufo with deep minerality and very strong character by means of spontaneous fermentation. The white wines age in steel tanks, the long yeast storage gives them a full-bodied and fruity character. The red aromatic plants prepared from Aglianico - sometimes also "Barolos of the South" called - clearly show a modern style.
Ilaria Petitto and Angelo Valentino benefit from the volcanic landscape around Vesuvius, especially near the provincial town of Avellino, which consists mainly of limestone, tuff and clay. The exceptionally good terroir was partly responsible for the fact that the Petitto family was represented in the Top 100 of the loudly Wine Spectatorbest and most interesting wines with their products for the first time in 2012. In conclusion, I think it can be said that The mission of Donnachiara is to rediscover and emphasize the typical characteristics, scents and aromas of the millennia-old Irpinia wines. SUPERIORE.DE
"Above all, it is thanks to the consistency of its services that the Petitto family business can remain extremely stable in the competitive Avellino area."Gambero Rosso
