      Barolo “Cascina Nuova” DOCG 2016

Bright ruby garnet, intense bouquet with notes of liquorice and tar, then rose and cherry. On the palate with very fine tannins, spicy, delicate and at the same time very rich and clear, long and balsamic in the final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Youthful garnet; aromas of fresh morel cherry, strawberry jam and thyme. Medium-bodied with good to very good concentration. Low-key style of Barolo. Very good acidity, good persistence, well integrated oak notes and medium-weight tannins that are nicely balanced." Forbes

"Lustrous mid ruby. Signature depth of fruit combined with finesse. Spice and minerals, cherry and raspberry with a suggestion of liquorice. There is a certain leggerezza but at the same time profound and deep but without being heavy. Fine, firm long grainy tannins clinging to the fruit. Composed energy. Easily one of the best-buy wines of the vintage." Jancis Robinson

"Cogno's 2016 Barolo Cascina Nuova is absolutely gorgeous. Pliant and expressive on the palate, the 2016 has a touch more mid-palate sweetness and texture than in the past, when the wine has been more nervous in feel. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, wild flowers, cedar, sweet tobacco and anise all open up effortlessly. Silky tannins add to its considerable immediacy and appeal. This is such a pretty wine in its peer group and also a terrific example of how attractive more modestly priced Barolos are in 2016." Vinous

Fruits of the forest in the bouquet, in addition ink, tobacco and gentian. The juicy, full taste is supported by velvety tannins of very low astringency and undergoes a great development in the glass that is already inspiring today. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, living ruby. In the nose noble wood, liquorice and blackberries, a hint of icing sugar. On the palate red cranberries, juicy acidity, covered with powerful tannin, noticeable wood, discreet drying." Falstaff

Barolo Albe is very multi-layered with tobacco, violet and berry tones and a multi-faceted bouquet. Deep and persistent on the palate with elegant tannin structure and pleasant acid reader, long lasting. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense dark ruby red with a sparkling core. Deep and multi-layered nose of dark blackberries, ripe Amarena cherries, with a slight reverberation of gunpowder. It spreads beautifully on the palate, has well integrated acidity and finely meshed tannin, remains long and fruity in the finale." Falstaff

"Cherry, leather, spice and leafy underbrush flavors walk the line between sweet fruit and bitter tannins. Finds balance in concert with the delicate frame. Fine length." Wine Spectator

"A tribute to local tradition, the 2014 Barolo Albe represents an assembly of fruit from various vineyard plots throughout the area. Winemaking is classic in approach with a 25-day maceration period and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. This vintage shows silky, fine lines and a more accessible approach for near and medium-term drinking" Robert Parker

      Barolo “Albe” DOCG 2015

Barolo Albe comes from three parcels: Fossati, Castello della Volta and Costa di Vergne. The 2015 edition is a real eye-catcher. Brilliant and finely formed on the palate, it captivates from the first taste. Expressive, floral notes merge into bright red fruits, mint and ground berries in a lively, distinctive Barolo, equipped with pure energy and class. As in all good years, Barolo Albe is juicy and fruity and is like every year due to its comparatively moderate price a clear purchase! SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, luminous ruby. Noble nose with fine spice, ripe cherries, forest fruits. In the mouth finely drawn with fruity core, juicy acidity and tightly woven tannin, flows calmly, prepares much drinking fun! Falstaff

"Mid ruby. Lifted and appealing cherry nose with a hint of cocoa and black tea leaves. Supple palate with plenty of ripe fruit and lots of delicious chewy tannins. Really accessible and long. Great balance." Jancis Robinson

"Elegant and pure aromas on the nose. Sour cherry, rose petals on the palate with a clean and long finish." Decanter

"The 2015 Barolo Albe is a soft, open-knit wine that will drink well upon release. Bright and lifted, with plenty of red cherry fruit and floral notes, the Albe captures the essence of the Vajra house style nicely. This is a terrific entry-level Barolo, not to mention one of the finest values in Piedmont." VINOUS

"Aromas of mature dark-skinned berries and brown baking spices fill the glass along with a whiff of new leather. Medium bodied and taut, the chewy palate offers dried black cherry, cranberry, blood orange and star anise alongside tightly knit, dusty tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Pretty, featuring rose, cherry, raspberry and mint flavors, with a touch of mineral. Supple, harmonious and elegant, offering a long finish. The aftertaste is tinged with orange peel and tobacco notes." Wine Spectator

"This Barolo offers a more immediate approach, with lots of dark berry followed by spice, tilled earth and black truffle. The 2015 Barolo Albe pours to a medium dark color and lays out a mid-weight texture, with bright primary fruit that is expertly woven into the wine. It exposes clearly etched veins of acidity and some determinedly firm tannins. Despite the Albe's accessible personality, I recommend that you wait a few more years before popping the cork." • Barolo "La Tartufaia" DOCG 2016

      Barolo “La Tartufaia” DOCG 2016

Giulia Negri would certainly not have the epithet "Barolo Girl" if it were not for this wine. The grapes for this archetype of a modern-traditional (sic!) Barolo come from the top vineyards Brunate and Serradenari, the latter at an altitude of up to 520 m and the soils are loamy-sandy. The grapes are fermented spontaneously and then the actual ageing takes place in large oak barrels. Barriques? Nothing.

Strong light ruby red. In the fragrance rose petals, nutty notes and small red berries. The fine fragrance continues on the palate: even if it does not deny its origin and also the grape variety, it is of an almost unique elegance and freshness, which even when young identifies it as a lively and completely complete top wine. Further years of maturity are certainly not a mistake, because one can feel impressively how the complexity that increases with age is added to the finesse and elegance that is already evident today. Put a bottle for now and the rest not too far away in the cellar, please! SUPERIORE.DE

    Things to know about
    Barolo

    Barolo

The small town of Barolo, 15 kilometres south-west of Alba, has long since achieved world fame. The reason for this is the truly large and colour-intensive DOCG red wine of the same name. Barolo is not only regarded as the most important Italian appellation, but is also one of the most long-lived red wines of all.

Barolo is produced in the towns of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra, Monforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba. Like his also very well known "brother" Barbaresco, it is made from the Nebbiolo grape, which ripens in favourable years due to the autumnal fog of Tanaro. Barolo and La Morra generally produce more fruity and spicy wines than the other three towns. In Castiglione Falletto, Montforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba the plants are richer in tannins and alcohol. All good locations of the Barolo DOCG are located in a small area of mostly gentle, sometimes steep slopes. SUPERIORE.DE
