• Barolo di Serralunga d'Alba DOCG 2012

Barolo di Serralunga d’Alba DOCG 2012

For friends of medium-weight and mature Barolo from a good vintage: red-brown with orange edge. Warm bouquet of sweet cherry, herbs and forest soil. On the palate soft and profound, it develops a certain viscosity after a few minutes with warm fruit aromas. A charming drop, round and with fine extract sweetness. Not for effect drinkers, but for meditative enjoyment. SUPERIORE.DE

"A very pretty density of fruit with dried strawberry and mineral undertones. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2012 Barolo Serralunga d'Alba does its township proud. This wine offers broad shoulders with good structure and a rich texture. This Barolo opens to dark fruit nuances with blackberry and dried cherries. That dark fruit is enhanced by oak-driven tones of allspice, smoke and tobacco. The wine shows the potential to age, but it is also one of those Nebbiolo-based efforts that will offer satisfaction in the near-term just as successfully." Robert Parker

Fruits of the forest in the bouquet, in addition ink, tobacco and gentian. The juicy, full taste is supported by velvety tannins of very low astringency and undergoes a great development in the glass that is already inspiring today. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, living ruby. In the nose noble wood, liquorice and blackberries, a hint of icing sugar. On the palate red cranberries, juicy acidity, covered with powerful tannin, noticeable wood, discreet drying." Falstaff

"Tasted blind. Lustrous mid ruby. Subdued but with a clear underlying concentration of fruit. Supple and succulent and well balanced. Attractive tannic bite on the long and generous finish, which ends a little racy." Jancis Robinson

"This young Barolo is really savory with dried-fruit, cedar and hot-stone character. Full-bodied, focused and intense. Very long and chewy finish." James Suckling

"This is an extremely elegant and graceful expression with classic Monforte d'Alba characteristics: The wine shows a tight and powerful inner core and the qualities (integrated acidity and tannins) for long cellar aging. You have everything in this one package." Robert Parker

"A red with strawberry, cherry and shaved-chocolate character. Very delicate and subtle. Medium body, fine tannins and a lightly austere finish." James Suckling

"Forest floor, porcini mushroom, truffle, moist soil, red berry, sage, mocha and leather sensations all emerge on this young wine. It’s still tightly tannic and brooding so give it time to unwind." Wine Enthusiast

"From a beautifully balanced vintage that saw a long growing season (something Nebbiolo loves), the 2010 Barolo Boscareto is a great near or medium-term drinking option. The wine presents a steady flow of dark berry, spice and button mushroom aromas. The finish is linear and focused with savory notes of grilled herb and cured bresaola on the close." Robert Parker

"Intense dark ruby red with a sparkling core. Deep and multi-layered nose of dark blackberries, ripe Amarena cherries, with a slight reverberation of gunpowder. It spreads beautifully on the palate, has well integrated acidity and finely meshed tannin, remains long and fruity in the finale." Falstaff

"Cherry, leather, spice and leafy underbrush flavors walk the line between sweet fruit and bitter tannins. Finds balance in concert with the delicate frame. Fine length." Wine Spectator

"A tribute to local tradition, the 2014 Barolo Albe represents an assembly of fruit from various vineyard plots throughout the area. Winemaking is classic in approach with a 25-day maceration period and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. Barolo “Albe” DOCG 2015

Barolo Albe comes from three parcels: Fossati, Castello della Volta and Costa di Vergne. The 2015 edition is a real eye-catcher. Brilliant and finely formed on the palate, it captivates from the first taste. Expressive, floral notes merge into bright red fruits, mint and ground berries in a lively, distinctive Barolo, equipped with pure energy and class. As in all good years, Barolo Albe is juicy and fruity and is like every year due to its comparatively moderate price a clear purchase! SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, luminous ruby. Noble nose with fine spice, ripe cherries, forest fruits. In the mouth finely drawn with fruity core, juicy acidity and tightly woven tannin, flows calmly, prepares much drinking fun! Falstaff

"Mid ruby. Lifted and appealing cherry nose with a hint of cocoa and black tea leaves. Supple palate with plenty of ripe fruit and lots of delicious chewy tannins. Really accessible and long. Great balance." Jancis Robinson

"Elegant and pure aromas on the nose. Sour cherry, rose petals on the palate with a clean and long finish." Decanter

"The 2015 Barolo Albe is a soft, open-knit wine that will drink well upon release. Bright and lifted, with plenty of red cherry fruit and floral notes, the Albe captures the essence of the Vajra house style nicely. This is a terrific entry-level Barolo, not to mention one of the finest values in Piedmont." VINOUS

"Aromas of mature dark-skinned berries and brown baking spices fill the glass along with a whiff of new leather. Medium bodied and taut, the chewy palate offers dried black cherry, cranberry, blood orange and star anise alongside tightly knit, dusty tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Pretty, featuring rose, cherry, raspberry and mint flavors, with a touch of mineral. Supple, harmonious and elegant, offering a long finish. The aftertaste is tinged with orange peel and tobacco notes." Wine Spectator

"This Barolo offers a more immediate approach, with lots of dark berry followed by spice, tilled earth and black truffle. The 2015 Barolo Albe pours to a medium dark color and lays out a mid-weight texture, with bright primary fruit that is expertly woven into the wine. It exposes clearly etched veins of acidity and some determinedly firm tannins. Despite the Albe's accessible personality, I recommend that you wait a few more years before popping the cork." • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2013

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2013

Barolo Castiglione comes from 11 different vineyards and has been the inexpensive entry into the world of fine Barolo from Vietti for years. With great care in the vineyard and cellar, a drop is produced here that inspires us every year with its opulence and wonderful elegance. With its dominant fruit it stands full and round in the glass, shows a fine leather and menthol note and gives in its overall appearance a perfect foretaste of the large individual vineyards of the winery. Like every year, you should give him a few years before you discover all his strength and finesse. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is a very fruit-forward Barolo with lots of dried-berry and rose-petal character. Full-bodied, round and soft-textured. Generous." James Suckling

"The 2013 Barolo Castiglione is a terrific success story. This is the estate's bread and butter Barolo. Fruit is sourced throughout the Castiglione Falletto township. The wine is consistent and steady, offering amazing value and quality with each new release. The nose is generous and full. It imparts fresh fruit and dark cherry aromas with tar, smoke and licorice at the back. Evident structure gives the wine a firm backbone and will carry it through the next decade of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"The 2013 Barolo Castiglione is rich, powerful and intense, especially for what is the estate's entry-level Barolo. Dark cherry, plum, spice, new leather and menthol are all used together. Intense and voluptuous, the Castiglione shows the richer, more intense side of the vintage. Time in the glass helps release the aromatics and the brighter side of Nebbiolo. Quite simply, the 2013 is a super Barolo Castiglione that is starting to close the qualitative gap with the single vineyard Barolos." Antonio Galloni

"Vietti has produced a Castiglione bottling since 1971. Though the name suggests provenance solely from the commune of Castiglione Falletto, parcels in Monforte d'Alba, Barolo and Novello also contribute to this complex, masculine expression. Deep wild forest berries, iron and tar are evident on the nose. Though still tightly wound, the palate offers raspberry, redcurrant and baking spice alongside appetising acidity and a stony grip. An impressive stepping stone to Vietti's fantastic crus." Decanter

    • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2014

Barolo Castiglione is the cheapest of the five Barolo of the house and demonstrates impressively the high level of Viettis. He begins his great appearance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. Mineral shades and memories of smoked meat follow. On the palate just as complex and multi-layered, the silky tannins have a good grip. Already in his younger years he possesses a fine fruit and finesse, which identifies him as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"An array of berries and cherries with a floral sheen. Bright and attractive. The palate has a layer more than most, offering sour cherries and tangy, cherry-pip flavors in a supple, balanced style." James Suckling

"This is a terrific and flexible expression of Nebbiolo that can adopt to almost any dinner party setting. The 2014 Barolo Castiglione was designed for people who want to enjoy Barolo in an easy and direct manner. This Barolo is offered at higher production numbers, although this vintage is comparatively smaller. On average they make anywhere from 44,000 to 53,000 bottles, but in 2014 only 35,000 bottles were produced. The bouquet here is generous and broad with dark fruit, spice and tar. You even get a touch of citrus or dried orange peel. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner and more delicate in this vintage. Yet the tannins leave a firm footprint and promise a good aging future ahead." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Castiglione is superb. Nuanced, layered and sculpted in the glass, the Castiglione is a wine of real precision and class. In 2014, the Castiglione is medium in body and gracious, with perhaps a bit less stuffing than in some previous editions, but tons of persistence. Hints of lavender, rose petal and red berry fruit lead into the crystalline, translucent finish. Time in the glass brings out this gorgeous Barolo's more refined side. Once again, the Castiglione is a real overachiever. The Castiglione is built on a core of Ravera, with a complement of fruit from other sites that are often vineyard-designated by other producers." Barolo

The small town of Barolo, 15 kilometres south-west of Alba, has long since achieved world fame. The reason for this is the truly large and colour-intensive DOCG red wine of the same name. Barolo is not only regarded as the most important Italian appellation, but is also one of the most long-lived red wines of all.

Barolo is produced in the towns of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra, Monforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba. Like his also very well known "brother" Barbaresco, it is made from the Nebbiolo grape, which ripens in favourable years due to the autumnal fog of Tanaro. Barolo and La Morra generally produce more fruity and spicy wines than the other three towns. In Castiglione Falletto, Montforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba the plants are richer in tannins and alcohol. All good locations of the Barolo DOCG are located in a small area of mostly gentle, sometimes steep slopes. SUPERIORE.DE
