Barolo del Comune del Barolo “Essenze” DOCG 2013

Barolo Essenze consists of a grape collection of six different vineyards: Bussia in Monforte, Annunziata in La Morra, Ravera in Novello, La Volta in Barolo, Scarrone in Castiglione Falletto and Gianetto in Serralunga. The wine shows an immaculate ruby red colour and a fragrance with a variety of aromas of liquorice and roasted notes. Sovereign and opulent taste with noble tannin in the final. SUPERIORE.DE

"A top-class Barolo. Fragrant on the nose with a bouquet of dark berries, sweet liquorice, autumn leaves, followed by a robust body with fine, ripe tannin and lively acidity, on the palate powerful and mouth-filling, balanced and harmonious." Dr. Jens Priewe (weinkenner.de)

"Bright garnet red. Finely drawn, present nose, shows notes of pickled cherries and raspberries, in the background fine spice. On the palate, tannin with a good grip, sweet melt in the core, builds up well, juicy, shows good tension." Falstaff

"Aromas of dark fruit and hints of tea. Medium body, fine tannins and a fruity finish. Very pretty. Tight center palate." James Suckling

    • Barolo "Cascina Nuova" DOCG 2015

      Barolo “Cascina Nuova” DOCG 2015

Brilliant ruby garnet, intense bouquet with notes of liquorice and tar, then rose fragrance and cherries. On the palate with very fine tannins, spicy, delicate and at the same time very full and clear, long in the final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Beautiful, lustrous ruby. Fantastic, exotically savoury spice nose with notes of pure cherry and cranberry fruit. With aeration increasingly lifted and perfumed. There is concentration of fruit on the palate as well as fine integrated acidity that peaks at the finish together with fine crunchy tannins. Elegant." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a very pretty entry-level offering from Elvio Cogno. Bright red berry and lifted floral notes pair nicely with the wine's gracious, mid-weight feel. Silky tannins match the wine's finely sculpted, saline-infused personality. The Cascina Nuova is a terrific example of the bright, taut Barolos made here in 2015." VINOUS

"Aromas of rose, red berry and wild herbs are front and center on this fresh, refined red. On the bright palate, taut, polished tannins and good acidity accompany juicy raspberry, white pepper and star anise." Wine Enthusiast

"A supple texture and harmony are the hallmarks of this alluring red, setting you up for pure flavors of cherry, raspberry, licorice, mint and tobacco. A solid backbone of tannins provides support. This should develop nicely over the medium term." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a dark and concentrated expression that offers succulence and richness with a full load of ripe summer plum and blackberry. There is softness here with black and purple fruit, natural rubber and savory spice. Pair this wine with a hearty beef en croute and roasted vegetables." Robert Parker

"Entrancingly deep, red and blue-rose aromas here with an ethereal, dried-leaf and herb edge and pristine red cherries. The palate has very impressive, fine and tight tannins and a fresh, pure core of red-cherry and plum flavor. Impeccably focused finish." James Suckling

    • Barolo DOCG 2014

      Barolo DOCG 2014

Fruits of the forest in the bouquet, with ink, tobacco and gentian. The juicy, full taste is supported by velvety tannins of only very low astringency and runs through a great development in the glass, which already inspires today. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lovely aromas of cedar, smoke and dried strawberries. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Linear and tight. Very well done for the vintage." James Suckling

"This was a very expensive year to make wine. The team at Domenico Clerico had to deal with three devastating hail storms and were forced to use helicopters (something that is no longer allowed today) for vineyard treatments. Happily, the 2014 Barolo seems to have moved past its difficult birth. Tasted today at this young stage in its evolution, the wine is steady and intense with lovely berry tones that rise delicately to the top. The mouthfeel is also richer and more complete than I expected. The blend is 90% Nebbiolo from Ginestra and 10% from Mosconi." Robert Parker

"Intense dark ruby red with a sparkling core. Deep and multi-layered nose of dark blackberries, ripe Amarena cherries, with a slight reverberation of gunpowder. It spreads beautifully on the palate, has well integrated acidity and finely meshed tannin, remains long and fruity in the finale." Falstaff

"Cherry, leather, spice and leafy underbrush flavors walk the line between sweet fruit and bitter tannins. Finds balance in concert with the delicate frame. Fine length." Wine Spectator

"A tribute to local tradition, the 2014 Barolo Albe represents an assembly of fruit from various vineyard plots throughout the area. Winemaking is classic in approach with a 25-day maceration period and aging in large Slavonian oak casks. • "La Tartufaia" Barolo DOCG 2015

      “La Tartufaia” Barolo DOCG 2015

Giulia Negri would certainly not have the nickname "Barolo-Girl" if this wine did not exist. The grapes for this archetype of a modern traditional (sic!) Barolo come from the top locations Brunate and Serradenari, the latter up to 520 m above sea level and the soils are clayey and sandy. The grapes are fermented spontaneously and then the actual ageing takes place in large oak barrels. Barriques? Nothing.

Bright bright ruby red. In the fragrance rose petals, nutty notes and small red berries. The fine fragrance continues on the palate: even if it does not deny its origin and the grape variety, it is of an almost unique elegance and freshness, which even at a young age identifies it as a lively and complete premium wine. Further years of ripeness are certainly no mistake, because you can feel impressively how the complexity that increases with age joins the finesse and elegance that can already be seen today. Put a bottle for now and the rest not too far away in the basement, please! SUPERIORE.DE

"Spicy cherry with an iron streak on the nose. Tightly built tannins framing ripe fruit. Long and already approachable, but with good potential too." Jancis Robinson

"The Giulia Negri 2015 Barolo La Tartufaia is a full and generous expression of Nebbiolo with round and ripe flavors of wild berry, redcurrant, spice, tar, rose and potting soil. This wine presents an easy and accessible approach with nicely integrated tannins and enough acidity to keep the palate refreshed. Maybe it is the power of suggestion, but I also get a hint of black truffle in La Tartufaia." Robert Parker

Barolo Albe is very multi-layered with tobacco, violet and berry tones and a multi-faceted bouquet. Deep and persistent on the palate with elegant tannin structure and pleasant acid reader, long lasting. SUPERIORE.DE

"Vajra's 2013 Barolo Albe is beautifully perfumed, sensual and expressive in this vintage, with a bit less overt fruit and more aromatic/structural intensity than is often the case. The style of the Albe has always favored a more succulent expression of Nebbiolo that is quite different from the single-vineyard wines, but the 2013 suggests Vajra may be moving the Albe closer in line stylistically to their other Barolos, which I think is a positive. In any event, there is an element of restraint in the 2013 that is hugely appealing. The Albe is a blend of fruit from Fossati, Coste di Vergne and La Volta aged in 75 hectoliter casks. The Albe may be the single best value in Barolo today. As for the 2013, don't miss it!" Antonio Galloni

"Aromas of fresh-cut hay and grass shade the flavors of cherry, black currant, violet and tobacco in this elegant, taut red. A little compact now on the finish, yet should stretch out with some age." Wine Spectator

    Things to know about
    Barolo

    Barolo

The small town of Barolo, 15 kilometres south-west of Alba, has long since achieved world fame. The reason for this is the truly large and colour-intensive DOCG red wine of the same name. Barolo is not only regarded as the most important Italian appellation, but is also one of the most long-lived red wines of all.

Barolo is produced in the towns of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, La Morra, Monforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba. Like his also very well known "brother" Barbaresco, it is made from the Nebbiolo grape, which ripens in favourable years due to the autumnal fog of Tanaro. Barolo and La Morra generally produce more fruity and spicy wines than the other three towns. In Castiglione Falletto, Montforte d.Alba and Serralunga d.Alba the plants are richer in tannins and alcohol. All good locations of the Barolo DOCG are located in a small area of mostly gentle, sometimes steep slopes. SUPERIORE.DE
