“Galea” Vernatsch Alto Adige DOC 2018

Bright ruby, vinous aromas and appetizingly fresh scent of red cherries. On the palate fruity and with velvety tannin, harmonious and of good length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Clear red with violet reflections. Unconventional mixture in the nose, some rubber, in addition flowers. In the mouth much more determined, grabs the palate, has fruit and tannin in beautiful balance. Has a good length, lots of flavour and mineral bite." Vinum

"This is a fun and exotic, light-bodied red with dried-strawberry and light cherry character. Hints of flowers. Crisp and fun." James Suckling

    • "Passi di Orma" Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2017

“Passi di Orma” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2017

Deep ruby red. Clearly defined bouquet with beautiful herbal spice. In the glass then a deep dark fruit and a very round body, fine acid play and polished tannin. A classic representative of the noble appellation Bolgheri with an extremely harmonious overall impression. SUPERIORE.DE

"Warm bouquet of blackberries and chocolate; the tannins are polished, full-bodied, racy and supple. To saddle of venison with mushrooms." Vinum

"There is lots of bright cherry fruit and bright intensity in the 2017 Bolgheri Rosso Passi di Orma. Its bold and ripe primary fruit is very enjoyable, if simple, but then the wine unfolds with charm. This is a blend of 40% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. It sees a brief six months in French barrique. You get loads of richness and dark fruit, packaged with slightly less formal appeal." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Passi di Orma is a lovely second wine from Orma. Sweet red cherry, mint, blood orange and pomegranate are all pushed forward. Silky and pliant, with lovely fruit purity, this radiant, juicy Maremma red is absolutely delicious. It should drink well for at least another handful of years." VINOUS

“Sagana” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2014

Sagana, a bribly sortable Nero d'Avola of dark colour, intense sour cherry, undergrowth, iodine and graphite fragrance. On the palate very powerful and full, velvety tannins and a long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Here will be the Nero d'Avola off the leash. Cusumanos Sagana has despite 14.5 vol.% much freshness, a clear, juicy and equally velvety fruit. The tannins are ripe and chocolaty, they integrate well, the finish is nutty, gripping and long." Vinum

"This elegant red is dense and well-knit, featuring fine-grained, supple tannins married to layers of tar-tinged mineral and crème de cassis flavors and hints of graphite, violet and spice box. Bright and focused, with a subtle, lingering finish." Wine Spectator

"This elegant and savory Nero d'Avola offers cassis, blue flower and baking spice aromas. It's a full-bodied expression of the grape, boasting ripe black cherry, blackberry and black pepper hints alongside fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Lots of pepper and spice character in addition to dark fruits here. Full body, round tannins and a savory finish." James Suckling

"Readers may remember that 2014 was a difficult vintage for mainland Italy. However, it was an excellent vintage for the islands, including Sicily and Sardinia, thanks to offshore winds that kept much of the bad weather at bay. The 2014 Sicilia Sàgana (from the Tenuta San Giacomo) is a richly textured red wine, made only with Nero d'Avola, that shows lively exuberance. Those harsh edges, that I identify as black olive or wild fennel, that you sometimes get with this grape are absent here. Instead, you are treated to a more contemporary display of Morello cherry, blackberry and dark spice. Okay, so there is a tiny touch of tangy olive at the back that serves as a friendly reminder that you are in Sicilia. Some 22,800 bottles were produced." Robert Parker

      “Archineri” Rosso Etna DOC 2016

The red Archineri from Nerello Mascalese grapes is full of character and elegant. Very refined bouquet of currants and wild berries, with hints of hedge roses and ethereal aromas. Very exquisite, tasty and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Atmospheric notes of ripe stone fruit, also liquorice and leather; compact construction with perceptible tannins, juicy and full of character in the aftertaste." Vinum

"Sparkling garnet red. Fine nose, with notes of pomegranate, rhubarb and a hint of iodine and nutmeg in the background. Salty and juicy on the palate, very animating to drink, lots of fine-meshed tannins, long finish." Falstaff

"Pale ruby. Perfumed deep cherry nose with iron hints. Supple and transparent and with shy, brooding fruit. The most elegant of Pietradolce’s 2016 offering. Very long and precise and with plenty of fine tannins." Jancis Robinson

"The 2016 Etna Rosso Archineri is made with fruit from pre-phylloxera vines aged up to 90 years old. This is a finessed and nuanced expression from a vintage that threw a few curve balls to vintners on Etna where the climate and temperatures can change at the drop of a dime. The finish is shorter compared to vintages of the recent past, but this mid-weight red is very articulate in terms of its aromatic offerings. It shows small-berry aromas with lilac, spice and wild blueberry. Some 7,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

"Medium deep red. Inviting aromas of sweet spices, sour red berries, ripe red plum and musky herbs. Then dense and rich, with a refined element to the flinty red cherry and berry flavors that are both fleshy and spicy. Turns a bit more juicy and lemony on the long and very fresh back end. Made from 80-90 years old Nerello Mascalese vines planted at 800 meters above sea level on the northern slope of Etna." Vinous

"Extremely aromatic red with dried flowers, cream, citrus and plums. Hint of pumice, too. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a delicious finish. So drinkable now, but better in 2020." James Suckling

“Contrada Rampante” Rosso Etna DOC 2016

Contrada Rampante with a fine bouquet of dark red cherries, flowers, mint and liquorice. Fresh and lively on the palate, with a memorable blend of ethereal sweetness, filigree acidity and an interesting salt note. A contemplative drop that requires a certain amount of experience and patience to be fully discovered. Pre-Phylloxera = from root true vines! SUPERIORE.DE

"Promising scent of cherries and macchia; precise course with notes of berries, sprays with minerality. Beautiful food companion." Vinum

"Sparkling ruby garnet with bright rim. Attractive nose of ripe cherries and blackberries, with rhubarb. "Fabric, dense-meshed tannin, builds up in many layers, a little rough in the finale. Falstaff

"Pale ruby. Distinct, heady cherry nose. Supple and elegant yet intensely flavoured and with fine, long tannins. Perfumed, long, sweet cherry finish." Jancis Robinson

"Citrus peel acidity enlivens the dried cherry and cranberry fruit flavors of this balanced, medium-bodied red, underscored by a rich vein of tarry mineral and wild herb notes. Creamy tannins firm the lingering finish." Wine Spectator

"Bright red. Reticent aromas of red cherry, Oriental spices, roses, plum nectar and soy sauce on the brooding nose. Floral and fresh in the mouth, with hints of Oriental spices and tobacco complicating ripe, thick plum and cherry flavors. Less immediately fruity and more tannic than the Santo Spirito, as it should be given the characteristics of these two crus. The finish is long, juicy and a touch austere for its current tannic clout. Needs time." Vinous

"The 2016 Etna Rosso Contrada Rampante shows girth and power to the mid-palate. This is a dense and fleshed-out red wine from Etna made with fruit from 90-year-old vines. However, like other expressions from this vintage, I found there to be a lot of immediate intensity up front, with less persistence and fiber in the long run. This seems to be a shared characteristic of 2016. Some 5,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

“Lombrone” Sangiovese Montecucco Riserva DOCG 2015 (BIO)

The Riserva Poggio Lombrone is produced according to the traditional style of winemaking and organically. Striking bouquet of red fruits, roses, violets and sweet spices. Polished, rich texture on the palate, full of finesse and with balanced tannins. A great Sangiovese full of character with good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"From the vineyard of the same name at 300 meters above sea level, matures for 36 months in large wood: precise raspberry and violet nose; smooth in the mouth, the vitalizing acidity and fine-grained tannins perfectly integrated, lots of juice, grinding and smoothness to the finish. Pleases with its elegant and accurate finish." Vinum

"The 2015 Montecucco Riserva Poggio Lombrone shows peppery florals and cedary spice, with hints of young strawberry, green botanicals and musky animal undergrowth. Silky textures flood the senses with flavors of tart cherry and savory herbs, as saline-minerals and round tannins collect on the senses. It finishes long, structured, and refined, resonating on brisk acids and spice, the red fruits lingering on. The Poggio Lombrone is a wine of real fruit and floral purity, which grows on you the more time you spend with it. I don’t see this aging beyond the medium term, yet it will provide many years of fine drinking for the Sangiovese purist." Vinous

"I love the purity of fruit to this delightful sangiovese with fresh hibiscus tea, rose petals and orange rind. Medium body, fine but serious tannins and a spicy, medium-chewy finish. Delicate and savory, but warm and hearty at the same time. As sangiovese should be." James Suckling

    • "Poggio Rosso" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013

“Poggio Rosso” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013

The 2013 Poggio Rosso is a true monument among the Gran Selezione of this outstanding vintage. Full concentration yet subtle elegance that is second to none. Be sure to aerate with pleasure or leave to mature in the cellar for another 5 years ... SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful ruby, shining. Intense and appealing nose with many ripe cherries, blackberry, also a little raspberry, nice play, some liquorice. On the palate it shows a lot of fine-meshed tannin, covered with sweet enamel, juicy, very well integrated acidity, clear and straightforward". Falstaff

"This is a big and linear Chianti Classico with plenty of structure and depth. Chocolate, walnut and berry character. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso is packed with intensity and dark fruit that peels back in thick layers. The wine ferments on the skins for up to 25 days followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak for 20 months. It sees another 15 months in bottle before its commercial release. This is a robust and thickly textured expression of 100% Sangiovese that opens to inky garnet saturation. This wine is tight at its core but is well padded with generous layers of dark fruit and plum. It needs a few more years to relax and shed some of that youthful, nervous tension. This is a wine that could easily be put aside for another five years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

      “Guidalberto” Toscana IGT 2017

Guidalberto has not been in the shadow of his "super-father" Sassicaia for a long time. Since he is vinified from his own vineyards, most of which also grow in the monopollage Sassicaia DOC, he has grown beyond himself. Spicy and earthy bouquet with hints of tobacco, clove and lavender, dense and juicy on the palate with fresh red and black berry fruit. The tannins are well dosed and the finish is complex with a majestic elegance, which becomes even more refined with the years of bottle maturity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Playful spicy-fruity flower; pithy on the palate with firm tannins, the reverberation of rich notes of black cherries and bitter almonds. A refined second wine from the Sassicaia producer." Vinum

"Deep black-purple. Opulent, plum, cassis and some fresh earth. Clove, cinnamon and some toasted almond oak. Much fuller-bodied than the Le Difese, with ripe plum and cassis fruit. Plenty of polish here, though pretty embryonic in form. Very fine-grained tannins, though not the greatest density of them. The fruit slips away quite quickly, but there’s a long line of spice and savouriness that does come through. Perhaps once bottled, the fruit will hold through as far too." Jancis Robinson

"The 2017 Guidalberto is a stellar wine. Rich, ample and resonant, the 2017 possesses superb depth and textural richness, both signatures of this warm, dry vintage. I suppose in the most technical sense, the 2017 is not the last word on complexity. But it is supremely delicious, it is that kind of wine opened and finished quickly - and of course, the ultimate goal of a wine is to deliver pleasure. The 2017 Guidalberto hits it out of the park on that level." VINOUS

"A youthful, sinewy red, with plum, black cherry, cedar and spice flavors wrapped in a thick texture and mouthcoating tannins. Stays vivid and long on the finish, where the sweet, ripe fruit prevails." Wine Spectator

"A blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the 2017 Guidalberto appeals to the more informal side of sophisticated drinking. By that I mean it makes a great choice at lunch or for family dinners. Despite the accessibility and dense concentration of the fruit, especially evident in a warm vintage such as this, the wine's pedigree is evident in terms of the careful management of the structure and acidity. My samples were a little closed at first and needed some extra coaxing. Once open, the wine shows the dark fruit and exuberance of this hot vintage in Tuscany." Robert Parker

"Subtle aromas of cedar, cassis, tobacco and a whiff of camphor slowly take shape in the glass. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, the tightly knit, elegant palate delivers dried black cherry, red currant, blood orange and licorice while fine-grained tannins provide tight support. It closes on a coffee-bean note." Wine Enthusiast

"Fresh herbs, cedar, black raspberries, orange peel and citrus. Very balanced and focused on the palate, thanks to cutting acidity, but with firm, chewy tannins that envelop a plethora of red fruit." James Suckling
