• "Villa Solais" Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 2020

“Villa Solais” Vermentino di Sardegna DOC 2020

Villa Solais is a splendid and distinctive white wine. Its floral and fruity fragrance persistence is an expression of the Sardinian countryside from which it comes. On the palate, a beautiful intensity with pleasing nuances of grapefruit and sage. The good acid foundation and the harmonious finish bring much pleasure and enjoyment. SUPERIORE.DE

"Floral nose with peach and spice. Zesty and aromatic, with energy and a pithy end." Decanter

"Minty herbs, crushed apples and white smoke waft up from the 2020 Vermentino di Sardegna Villa Solais. It's silky in texture, enlivened by salty acids and minerals, with a tart display of citrus-tinged orchard fruits. Fresh, floral and spicy, the Villa Solais tapers off slightly tropical yet pleasantly poised." Vinous

I could just imagine this, very slightly chilled, with a bowl of fregola con arselle, or, if you're far from Sardinian shores, a chilli and tomato pasta with loads of fresh olive oil and fresh basil leaves. Surprisingly thirst-quenching." Jancis Robinson

“Rocca Rubia” Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Riserva DOC 2018

Pronounced aroma of berries and spices. Dense on the palate with a fascinating balance between tannin and full-bodiedness. A complex red with a long, smooth finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with light dark garnet. Clear and open nose, full of blueberries, spicy macchia notes, some earthy tones in the background. Rich attack and course, opens with pithy, firm tannin, lots of zwetscke, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff

"The 2018 Carignano del Sulcis Rocca Rubia impresses more for purity than power, presenting a display of sweet florals, crushed stone, bright cherry and hints of flowery undergrowth. It's silky in texture, lifted by vibrant acidity, with tart wild berry fruits and saline-minerals giving way to violet tones toward the close. A subtle coating of tannin lingers, framing the experience nicely, as this tapers off with a bitter twang and hints of licorice. The Rocca Rubia is very pretty and lightly structured, showing the difficulties of the vintage while maintaining admirable balance." Vinous

    • "Latinia" Vino da uve stramature bianco IGT 2015 dolce

“Latinia” Vino da uve stramature bianco IGT 2015 dolce

Latinia is made from raisined Nasco grapes and matures for a short time in used barriques. It exudes a fine, elegant bouquet that is reminiscent of pickled fruits and is underpinned by a hint of vanilla. The round taste is sherry-like, slightly sweet and has a nice persistence. SUPERIORE.DE

"Radiant, brilliant dark orange. In the nose of blood orange jam, dried apricots, light dates, walnuts. On the palate with a lot of sweetness and melting, spreads over the tongue with a lot of viscosity, delicately perceptible tannin gives freshness and grip, in the finish clearly after sultanas." Falstaff

"Beautiful peach, apricot and honeyed nectarine nose. Clean and gentle palate with cleansing acidity and a delicious rich finish." Decanter

"The 2015 Vino da Uve Stramature Latinia opens with a kaleidoscopic display of candied lemon peel, grilled orange, pineapple, kiwi, coconut, golden raisins and hints of yellow curry. It's deeply textural and creamy in feel yet somehow lifted, mixing salty and sweet through notes of dried nectarine, peach, baked apple and roasted almond. This finishes impossibly fresh considering the depth and density on the palate, seeming to recall all of the floral and tropical tones found within, and finally tapering off to a note of spiced ginger cookies. Fans of dessert wines take note: this is truly worth seeking out. The Latinia is produced using late-harvest Nasco grapes, a variety indigenous to Sardinia." Vinous

    • "Terre Brune" Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC 2016

“Terre Brune” Carignano del Sulcis Superiore DOC 2016

Terre Brune is a 100% Carignano of seductive balance and fruitiness and every year one of the best reds of Sardinia. Aged in barriques, it shows a fresh but ripe fruit on the nose with a slight hint of cocoa. On the palate of beautiful depth, with present tannins. An exemplary wine vinified with love and full of regional typicity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dense, sparkling ruby with a black core. Opens with fresh notes of mint, then lots of blueberry, blackberry, plus lots of liquorice. Opens on the palate with ripe fruit notes, lots of sturdy, dense tannin, gripping and tight, balsamic notes on the final." Falstaff

"This remarkable wine is made from mainly Carignano grapes grown on ungrafted bush-trained vines, and is matured in barriques for up to 18 months, plus a further year in bottle before release. The full, forward and seductive nose has aromas of blackberry and ripe plum with spicy chocolate and tobacco notes. The palate is full, ripe and round with sweet fruit and an intense spicy finish showing silky tannins." Decanter

"The 2016 Carignano del Sulcis Superiore Terre Brune is a beauty. It takes its time opening in the glass, at first wafting up with hints of blackberry, currants and smoke. Further swirling reveals a deeper display of violet pastille, giving way to black cherries, wild herbs and crushed stone. It's velvety in texture, fleshing out across the palate with a staining of rich dark fruits and minerals under an air of lavender and purple-tinged florals. A fine coating of tannin settles in, creating a youthfully structured feel, and a bitter twang of savory spice. Salted licorice lingers incredibly long. The 2016 Terre Brune is classic to the core, but it will require some cellaring to soften and come fully into focus." Vinous

"An attractive combination of dark fruit, such as blackberries with hints of vanilla, tea and bark. Tar, too. It's full-bodied and dense with layers of fruit and spices. Lovely drinkability now, but can go for a long time." James Suckling

    About the winemakersSantadiSardinia
    Santadi

The success of Cantina Sociale di Santadi is due to the performance of a very large team. Nearly three hundred smallholders with an average of just two hectares of vineyards, a very successful management, an efficient sales team and many hard-working employees have all contributed, thanks to their professionalism, to the fact that the winegrowers' cooperative in the heart of the Sulcis region, founded in 1960 thanks to the commitment of a group of winegrowers, has not only become a flagship of Sardinia, but also an important reference for the Italian wine industry. One of the most important foundations for the rise of the cooperative under its current president Antonello Pilloni is its early and clear commitment to traditional indigenous grape varieties such as Carignano, Cannonau, Monica, Vermentino and Nuragus. The Santadi cooperative also secures the livelihood of many winegrowers in the southwest of the island and successfully prevents rural exodus.

The winegrowers from the varied coastal area near Porto Pino, consisting of low mountain ranges and flat areas, are advised by experts from the cooperative and therefore create something extraordinary. The grapes come exclusively from vineyards within a radius of around 30 kilometres, some of which are still grown in ancient vineyards in the traditional Alberello culture (buscher education). The assortment is high-quality and extensive. The best red wines of Cantina Santadi - Superiore and Riserve - mature in French oak barriques and after bottling in the bottle. The efforts of the Sardinian winery for the aromatic local Nasco vine, from which delicious sweet wines are made, are very commendable.

The Cantina Santadi management team is characterized by determination and enthusiasm. After difficult beginnings in the eighties, he not only succeeded in successfully breaking new ground and using different strategies, but also landed the world-famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis as a production consultant. Thanks to his great professional commitment, the wines of the cooperative winery achieved a significant leap in quality. They were quickly recognized in the most important international markets and received numerous awards from then on. In 1984 Santadi launched the Carignano del Sulcis Terre Brune, the first red wine in Sardinia to be aged in barriques, according to Santadi. This noble wine was euphorically received by the market and is still considered today to be the prestige wine of the Sardinian cooperative. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Santadi cooperative in the southwest of the island has not only produced absolute quality wines in the 1980s, but has also demonstrated to other cooperatives on the island that with good, conscientious work, which begins with sensitising grape suppliers to quality in the vineyard, excellent results can also be achieved in cooperative wineries."Gambero Rosso
