“Vigna del Rolat” Friulano Collio DOC 2023
Yellow spring flowers, apricots and crushed herbs pour from the glass of this flavoursome white wine, along with an inviting hint of yeast and fresh bread dough. The enveloping, medium-bodied palate picks up where the nose left off, offering ripe pear, unsweetened lemon candy, salt and white almonds alongside tangy acidity. Pinot Grigio Collio DOC 2023
In addition to his Friulano vineyards, Dario Raccaro has been cultivating a small vineyard planted with 100% Guyot Pinot Gris vines for many years. Since the 2022 vintage, he has been selling just 2,000 bottles of this fine wine and we are delighted to have received an allocation. Pale straw yellow in colour, with a fine, floral bouquet with traces of flint and white smoke. Well-structured on the fresh palate, soft and flowing, very velvety and deep at the same time, a masterful interpretation of Pinot Gris! SUPERIORE.DE

“Vigna del Rolat” Friulano Collio DOC 2024
The Vigna del Rolat vineyard – barely two hectares in size – lies on the south-eastern slopes of Monte Quarin. There, where the view extends over the gentle waves of the Collio as far as Slovenia. Here, on the fossilised marl soils of the Ponca, Friulano has been growing for generations. The grape variety that defines the Collio like no other. Dario Raccaro is not a man of big words. His family has been cultivating these slopes since 1928, and nothing has changed in his philosophy over the decades: The vineyard speaks, the winemaker translates. The Vigna del Rolat is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the most important single vineyards in the Collio, and the Friulano produced from it has the class that recently led Daniele Cernilli from Doctor Wine to name it the best white wine in Italy. It is a wine that lingers.

Collio Bianco DOC 2024
On the gently rolling slopes of Monte Quarin, in the heart of the Collio Goriziano, lies the small domain of the Raccaro family. Since 1928, they have been cultivating their seven hectares with the quiet perseverance that characterises true craftsmanship. Dario Raccaro is recognised by connoisseurs as one of the "great silents" of the Collio – his wines have a powerful essentiality that lingers on. His Collio Bianco combines Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Malvasia Istriana to create a cuvée that speaks unmistakably of the terroir of the Ponca soils. Gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation at 18 degrees, six months of maturation in stainless steel – a vinification that favours clarity.

![Merlot Collio DOC 2022]()
Merlot Collio DOC 2022
Now available again in small quantities after a break of many years: Dario Raccaro's Merlot is a deep, expressive wine that presents opulent tones of blackberry jam and blackcurrants. In other circumstances, such a fruit-driven wine would taste heavy and one-dimensional. However, thanks to the unique buffer of cool Collio air and the heavier clay soils, the wine shows a fascinating personality and, despite its concentration, a great elegance that increases with further aeration. A dense vein of minerals and spices is woven into the long finish. A true showpiece for this grape variety, which is also rarely found in the Collio. SUPERIORE.DE

Merlot Collio DOC 2023
There are wines that you don't find every year. Raccaro's Merlot belongs to this rare species – produced only when the vintage allows it, and even then in homeopathic quantities. "Da sempre presente nel vigneto aziendale", as the family says: always in the vineyard, but never in the bottle as a matter of course. This Merlot is not a concession to international trends, but part of the history of these slopes on Monte Quarin, where the grape variety develops a depth on the fossilised marl layers of the Ponca that is reminiscent of the great Merlot interpretations of Friuli. The vineyard lies at an altitude of 90 metres, north-south orientation, 5,000 vines per hectare in the Guyot system. Old vines, low yields, late harvest – the prerequisites for concentration. The vinification follows a clear line: twelve days of maceration at a controlled 25 to 28 degrees to extract structure and depth without overtaxing the fruit. This is followed by 15 months in small French wooden barrels, where the wine gains complexity and learns to tame its youthful vigour.

The Friuli region is famous for its sophisticated Italian white wine culture. Lovers of fine wines who are short on time should definitely travel to Cormòns, the main town in the wine-growing region. The beautiful little town near Udine, already known as a Roman military station in 181 BC, is home to an impressive concentration of top producers of white wines. Dario Raccaro is undoubtedly one of the most important winegrowers, who also play an important role in the international competition for the highest scores. Although the charismatic winemaker likes to sing the praises of his Malvasia - truly an extraordinarily delicious wine - from his small range, it is the Friulano Vigna del Rolàt in particular that has elicited hymns of praise from the wine world. It remains the strong magnet of the still young wine producer, which is rarely found on retailers' shelves with a vineyard area of just under seven hectares and an annual production of just 34,000 bottles.
The Raccaro family can look back on almost a century of history. The year was 1928 when Giuseppe Raccaro decided to flee the stony and barren soil of the Natisone Valley to settle in the middle of the Collio hills in an old colonial house at the foot of Monte Quarin near the church of Santa Maria Apollonia. The fertile farmland he found there allowed Giuseppe to pursue his work as a farmer more successfully than before and to better feed his family.
Mario's son Dario, who has been continuing his father's work since 1970, is also committed to tradition. The charismatic owner of the estate, who now runs the small winery together with his sons Luca and Paolo, decided in the 1980s to concentrate mainly on viticulture. He expanded his own property by adding an old vineyard planted with Friulano at the beginning of the last century. A wise decision: The leased vineyards - according to folk tales, the vines originated from Hungary - were soon to make Raccaro famous with the Vigna del Rolàt. As the same vines and shoots were always used for new plantings, the wine of the same name has retained its unique characteristics and outstanding consistency to this day.
The Dario Raccaro winery prefers stainless steel tanks and cold stabilisation for its white wines. It is the best proof of how you can make a name for yourself in a short space of time with just a few labels and an exceptionally consistent performance. SUPERIORE.DE
