“Ciampoleto” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020
Medium-bodied ruby red. Fine, red berry bouquet with hints of blackcurrant, black cherry, sage and smoky notes. Firm and expressive on the palate; multilayered aromas of ripe wild berries, spices and a delicate almond note are flanked by velvety tannins. For a Rosso, Ciampoleto has impressive depth and structure; the respectable finish leaves a soft cherry note with traces of liquorice and a salty vein. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense red fruit, juniper, modern and cool at the same time, sour cherry and blueberry; cool graphite, subtle herbal spice." Meiningers Sommelier
"Ruby red. The nose reveals notes of plums, ripe cherries and a light hint of cocoa. The palate is fresh and harmonious, with soft tannins." Falstaff
"The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Ciampoleto exudes a spicy blend of wild herbs, dried strawberries, tomato leaves and a hint of brown spices. It is silky, with a cool note and bright red fruits giving way to a pretty inner rose and mineral tones. The final is incredibly fresh and lively, while red sweets and violet nuances fade. The Ciampoleto comes from the youngest vines and has a lower maceration time of about 10 days, followed by refinement in concrete." Vinous
"A juicy and creamy Rosso with berries, mushrooms and a hint of cedar on the palate. It is medium bodied, round textured and concentrated." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino “Ugolforte” DOCG 2018 (BIO)
On the classic bouquet, ripe cherry, tobacco and some damp earth. On the palate, first the pure Sangiovese feeling: beautiful small red berries, wild cherry, lively acidity. Then an impenetrable mesh of red and black fruits, which together with a fine web of tannins and minerals reveal more and more of themselves. Compressed and with each sip more open and present, the beautifully diversified taste components present themselves until they then lead into an aristocratically long and fresh finish with a hint of liquorice. SUPERIORE.DE
"Somewhat woody, also dried-vegetable to herbal and earthy, with air increasingly preserved-fruity scent of mixed berries and a little plums with cedary hints. Quite firm, positively implied marmalade-like fruit with more red components than on the nose, smoky and wood spice aromas, quite present, ripe, relatively friable tannin, some bite, ethereal spice on the palate, salty-mineral, persistent, a little herbal, gaining depth with air, very good, juicy and spicy finish with bite." Wein-Plus
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte is unobtrusive, bright and delicate in the glass, with white pepper, beautiful rose and nuances of dried strawberries. It coats the palate with soft textures and soothing ripe red fruits contrasted with savoury spices and inner herbal notes. The 2018 lingers long, showing balsamic nuances and salty liquorice, while gentle tannins do not slow down the momentum. It will be interesting to follow this understated beauty through to maturity." Vinous
"The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Ugolforte shows medium-dark concentration and a savoury character with black spices, saddle leather and some distant hints of cured meat. I always associate Ugolforte with a more modern style of wine that brings spices, ripe fruit and soft tannins to the fore. This vintage offers all these qualities with a soft and approachable mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"This red wine features aromas and flavours of cherry, plum, thyme, sage and clay. Lively and firmly structured, with a salty undercurrent. An open wine with beautiful balance, fine energy and a long, resonant finish." Wine Spectator
"Excellent interpretation of the 2018 vintage from Tenuta San Giorgio, the last estate acquired by the ColleMassari group. We are in the south-eastern area of Montalcino, starting from a raw material of great crispness. Notes of blackcurrant on the nose, then laurel lashes and hints of blood orange peel. Iodine tannins on the palate, with a fruity finish." Luca Gardini

When speaking of Montalcino's unique vineyard sites, Tenuta San Giorgio is one of the wineries that outshines its high-ranking competitors. The winery is located on the slopes of Monte Amiata in Castelnuovo dell'Abate, southeast of Montalcino and just a few kilometers from the thousand-year-old Sant'Antimo Abbey. These gently sunny hills of the Orcia Valley are considered one of the most important areas for the production of great Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines.
San Giorgio was founded two years after the introduction of the DOCG appellation of Brunello di Montalcino in 1980 from the original estate of the Ciacci Piccolomini family. The Tipa-Bertarelli family finally absorbed the Tenuta in November 2016, after several changes of ownership, into the ColleMassari Group, which includes the neighboring Poggio di Sotto winery. Since then, particular attention has been paid to the preservation of the 20-36 year old vines and to organic-sustainable viticulture.
The cultivated area covers 146 hectares of land, of which 25 hectares are planted only with Sangiovese. These southeast-facing vines tend to climb steep, rocky slopes with a subsoil of gravel and clay at an elevation of 250 meters, while at 450 meters they grow on predominantly sandy loam. A Mediterranean dry breeze in the west and the emerging temperature variations between day and night ensure that the demanding Sangiovese Grosso can reach ideal grape ripeness.
The winery produces only two labels whose names are deeply rooted in the history of the production area: The Brunello di Montalcino named "Ugolforte" is dedicated to a local hero who led the fight for freedom of the citizens of Siena against the conquest of the Sicilian kingdom in the 12th century. The range is completed by the Rosso di Montalcino "Ciampoleto", whose name, on the other hand, recalls the term "Ciampolo", which in the local dialect denotes a land particularly suitable for wine growing.
The production philosophy has been re-adapted to the traditional Brunello style under the direction of oenologist Luca Marrone. The barriques of the previous owner have therefore been replaced by large wooden barrels, which give rise to two velvety red wines. The wines enjoy great popularity, for example, Tenuta San Giorgio is the official supplier of the Papal Swiss Guard. So it is certainly no coincidence that San Giorgio has a justifiably special status within the Tuscan wine scene. SUPERIORE.DE
