“del Pompiere” Sauvignon Venezia Giulia IGT 2021
Mario Schiopetto was born in 1930, he grew up in the family-owned Osteria ai Pompieri and had his first professional experiences as a fireman and later as a truck driver. In 1963, guided only by his taste and love of wine, he began to devote himself to wine production in his parents' farm and produced the first pure Tocai in 1965. The historic label at the time included the drawing of his fire engine, which he also used to deliver the wine to customers. With the 2019 vintage, the winery recalled these historical roots and resumed the cute drawing on part of its wine labels.
Light straw yellow with greenish shimmer. Fine, not too strong bouquet of exotic fruits, some gooseberry and notes of white flowers. Very good balance on the palate, good volume, drinky and with a nice tension between green fruity and fine spicy notes. A very harmonious Sauvignon that does not score with opulence and directness, but with elegance and finesse. SUPERIORE.DE

Schiopetto's classic, as it has been produced since 1986. Pale yellow with greenish reflections. Yellow fruity on the nose with a subtle floral and herbal note, which is also found on the palate. Sauvignon Bianco Collio DOC 2020
Brilliant light straw yellow. Elegant aromas of gooseberry, smoke and lemon followed by a full body with powerful fruit and mineral nuances, very balanced and unmistakably high class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very powerful aromas of lychees, limes and gooseberries follow through to a medium body with a creamy texture. Lots of sauvignon blanc character here. Fresh finish." James Suckling
"While pungently perfumed and spicy, the 2020 Sauvignon colors within the lines of elegance and refinement. Flinty green apples, melon, sweet chamomile and smoke form its beguiling bouquet. It’s silky, yet lifted, and quite savory, with a salty mineral core and zesty acids that enliven the tart orchard fruits and citrus found within. For all of its depth, the 2020 steps lightly, seeming to hover across the palate, yet it tapers off spicy with a concentration of lemon oil and ginger that lingers. Frankly, it’s hard to put this glass down." Vinous

Pinot Bianco Collio DOC 2021
Well balanced Pinot Bianco with a fine scent of jasmine, dried apple and nice spice. Expressive fruit in the drink, lively, juicy, very polished with remarkable length and mineral freshness. SUPERIORE.DE
"This mineral-driven and focused wine highlights the beauty of the Collio region. Ponca, the local name for the soil in the Collio, is a chalky clay and sandstone conglomerate, which this wine shows off in spades. The first note of Ponca leads into ripe apples and white flowers. Layered and textured, the palate has a creaminess that is balanced with bright acidity. It's a wine that highlights the soil of this special place." Wine Enthusiast
"The density and depth is very impressive for a pinot bianco, with fresh white flowers, dried apples, lemons and pears. It’s full-bodied, but feels fresh and vivid on the palate. Stony and minerally undertones at the end." James Suckling

Pinot Grigio Collio DOC 2021
Schiopetto's Pinot Grigio seduces with a nuanced blend of yellow apples, spring flowers and sweet smoke. It is soft on the entry with an echo of green citrus and salty minerals that add excitement, while lively notes of pear and inner flowers build towards the finish. It finishes with a pleasant inner sweetness, while a hint of spice and ginger lingers. This understated beauty is full of character. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Pinot Grigio is classy and refined with a brilliant bouquet of white flowers, lemon oil and wet stone. It’s supple and round, with a balanced inner sweetness offsetting citrus-tinged orchard fruits. This cleans up beautifully, leaving a mineral staining and candied lime hints to linger. This is a fantastic Pinot Grigio that’s drinking beautifully, but it could easily excel through short-term cellaring." Vinous
"The cooked apples, minerals and white flowers are so enticing. Crushed stones as well. It’s full-bodied with layers of fruit and a crisp, bright finish. Lots of minerality and depth at the end. Structured and phenolic, yet so well integrated." James Suckling

Friulano Collio DOC 2021
Mineral and delicate Friulano, on the nose grapefruit, peach, white pepper, figs and bananas. Then deep and complex on the palate with further appetising flavours of tropical fruits, apricots and hazelnuts. Very long and with its salty swing great as every year! SUPERIORE.DE
"Sometimes you can just smell “pretty” and this is one of those times. Wafting and almost lacy aromas of white peach, apricot and Fuji apples dance out of the glass. Hints of wet river stone and fresh herbs peek through after the wine has been opened. On the palate, the wine focuses on perfectly ripe stone fruits, wildflowers and crushed rocks. Balanced acidity keeps the wine moving forward with each sip." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2021 Friulano is youthfully understated with a pretty bouquet that mixes lemon zest with mint and crushed rocks nuances. It washes across the palate with a tension-building mix of citrus-tinged acids and salty minerals as a core of tropical melon evolves toward the close. The 2021 finishes on a more delicate note, yet long with pretty inner florals that linger on and on. There’s a beautiful balance and underlying power here that will guarantee a lovely maturation in bottle. The best is yet to come." Vinous
"White peaches and cooked apples with flint and matchstick undertones. Some iron shavings, too. Full-bodied, yet compacted, tight and fresh. Very minerally, with dried-peach, citrus and mineral undertones and a bright finish. Very solid." James Suckling

Sauvignon Bianco Collio DOC 2021
Brilliant light straw yellow. Elegant aromas of gooseberry, smoke, some flint and lemon followed by a full body with powerful fruit and mineral nuances, very balanced, piquant and unmistakably high class. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Sauvignon is distinctly savory and intense, with notes of rosemary, tomato leaf and grapefruit rinds offset by a whiff of white smoke. It’s soft and round on the palate, yet with brisk acidity that adds an energetic feel, as sour citrus hints further intensify its tart orchard fruits and inner herbal tones. The 2021 finishes with gobs of mineral tension, leaving the cheeks puckered as a salty flourish and sour melon nuances fade." Vinous
"Sliced lemon, lime, pear and green melon. Full-bodied and very varietal, with hints of grass, mineral and tropical fruit. Yet, the palate is structured, with phenolic tension that runs the length of the wine. So long and tense. Goes on and on." James Suckling

The Schiopetto winery is one of the oldest wineries in the Collio region, which includes terraced vineyards between the towns of Gorizia and Cividale with a vineyard area of around 1,600 hectares. Because it quickly became an important pillar of the local wine industry and has remained so to this day, the founder and namesake Mario Schiopetto, who died at the age of 72, is also referred to as a pioneer of Friulian viticulture. The farm, situated on the rolling hills of Capriva del Friuli in the province of Gorizia, is now owned by Dottore Emilio Rotolo, who also owns the Volpe Pasini winery. Emilio Rotolo has entrusted the management to his son Alessandro, who is assisted by the experienced Lorenzo Landi as oenological advisor. In the cellar, Mario Schiopetto's son Giorgio, oenologist and agronomist, and Mauro Simeoni continue the work of the famous founder of the estate, always driven by great curiosity, with convincing passion.
Mario Schiopetto is considered the initiator of the quality revolution in Friuli's white wine sector. 30 hectares of vineyards are located in the fertile land surrounding the winery's headquarters - the ancient archbishop's palace in Capriva del Friuli - and further east on the site of the later acquired Podere dei Blumeri on the hills of Rosazzo in the Colli Orientali wine-growing area.
Here are some historical cornerstones without which the outstanding position of the winery today can hardly be explained: At the beginning of the 1960s, Mario Schiopetto decided to vinify his wines with thermocontrolled fermentation. From 1971, the winegrower was one of the first winegrowers in the region to refrain from adding sulphur to the must. At the beginning of the nineties, a new cellar with state-of-the-art technology was inaugurated, partly buried in a vineyard. It was also Mario Schiopetto who introduced a garden design concept for the plots in Friuli, after having his property checked by practice-oriented vine experts. The winery made a particularly happy decision in 2007 when it mixed Chardonnay from the Colli Orientali del Friuli with the Friulano grapes from the Collio and created Mario Schiopetto Bianco from this merger.
The wines of the Schiopetto winery are marketed at the earliest one and a half years after the harvest. The top white wines are flawless in their fragrance, regularly have a uniformly high level and are also capable of ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
