“Le Volte dell’Ornellaia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
Rich bouquet of sweet red berries, balsamic notes, fine aromas of tobacco and chocolate. Very harmonious on the palate of dark cherries, flattering full flavour, perfectly balanced tannins, fresh acidity and good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"A blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, the Ornellaia 2020 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia shows medium darkness and texture followed by a very primary and fruit-forward bouquet. There is a generous display of cherry, cassis and wild plum. On second nose, this easy and straightforward Tuscan blend reveals hints of spice, cardamon and polished river stone. In a hot vintage like this, the wine comes together nicely and rather effortlessly." Robert Parker
"Bright and young on the nose, smells like freshly-picked red cherries, almost like sweets, blackcurrant and cherry sweets braced by bramble fruits and soft perfume. Softly creamy and chalky on the palate, strawberries and red cherries have a chalky texture and quite a perfume to the flavour profile. There is fruit there but then it's subdued a little by a savoury wood aspect, sweet vanilla and spiced clove that edges the palate. Feels a little disconnected at the moment, not all in harmony, but it has a charm to it and will be approachable earlier. One that will give a lot of pleasure." Decanter
"Attractive aromas of blue fruit with slate and black-licorice character. It’s full-bodied with juicy fruit and an orange-peel undertone. Wet earth, some fresh sage and rosemary, too. I like the Mediterranean flavors in this vintage." James Suckling

“Poggio alle Gazze dell’Ornellaia” Toscana Bianco IGT 2019
Poggio Alle Gazze is a very elegant Sauvignon Blanc with a small addition of Vermentino and Viognier. Fabulously scented with flowers, pineapple, peach and a little mint. Refined and expressive on the palate, well structured and wonderfully long. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw yellow with light green nuances. Intense and appealing nose with notes of gooseberry, fresh pineapple and apricot. Juicy fruit on the palate, unfolds with crisp acidity, nice play, vibrant on the final." Falstaff
"Bright and vivid sauvignon with sliced lemons and limes, as well as some grass and fresh fennel. Medium-bodied with gooseberry, lychee and lime flavors. Bright acidity. Bitter lemon at the finish." James Suckling
"The 2019 Poggio alle Gazze is bright and beautifully sculpted in this vintage. Lemon peel, white flowers, apple and exotic floral notes are nicely delineated. This is an especially perfumed edition of Poggio alle Gazze. Lime, green apple and exotic floral notes lead into the super-expressive finish." Vinous
"This remains one of the great, fresh and easy-drinking whites of the Tuscan Coast, and historically, it has a leg up on most of the newcomer Vermentinos that are so popular now. Indeed, this was the precursor and a direct link to the gastronomy of its birthplace, which is so heavily driven by the catch of the day netted by local fisherman. Floral and exotic fruit tones rise from the pretty bouquet with shadings of green papaya and citrus. About one-half of the total sees some oak aging, and the rest goes into steel vat and cement. The wine is luminous and bright with lots of energy and freshness." Robert Parker

"The Ornellaia 2020 Poggio alle Gazze dell'Ornellaia is a delightfully fresh and tonic white blend made primarily with Sauvignon Blanc supplemented by Vermentino and Viognier. It pours from the bottle with crystalline luminosity and displays a full range of varietal flavors from lime to lemon grass, white flower and acacia. Despite the hot growing season, the wine's acidity is vibrant and bright." Robert Parker

“Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia” Bolgheri DOC 2019 · in Gift Box
Beguiling aroma of sweet, dark berries with hints of cassis, cedar and antique leather. Very balanced on the palate, of beautiful viscosity with an elegant melting. Fine-meshed tannin, restrained mineral tones and a wonderfully polished fruit accompany into a remarkable finish. With all its elegance, it shows pressure and power and promises a long life with the right dose of acidity. A great wine from a great vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2019 shines in its typical intense colour. Fresh aromas of ripe red berries unfold on the nose, accompanied by lively balsamic notes that recall the scent of cypress cones and eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine presents itself silky-soft and full-bodied, with an elegant tannic structure and a tasty, long-lasting final." OLGA FUSARI (KELLERMEISTERIN ORNELLAIA)
"Sparkling, rich ruby with violet. Fresh and appealing nose, opens with notes of tobacco, lots of blackberry and cassis. Round and supple in attack and course, showing plenty of polished, well-integrated tannin, lots of juicy berry fruit." Falstaff
"The 2019 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is delicate, refined and exceptionally beautiful. Floral accents and mid-weight structure inform a Serre Nuove that is all finesse. Dark red berry fruit, licorice, incense, cedar, aromatic dark spice and leather all meld together in an understated, fabulous Serre Nuove that delivers the goods. The 2019 is especially aromatic for a Merlot-based wine from the Tuscan coast. Give it a few years to come together." Vinous
"A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia shows a greater degree of focus and detail compared to the previous vintage that I tasted at the same time. This wine reveals the sharp contours and etched character of the Cabernet Franc, especially with black licorice and black pepper. The results are linear and pure. Elegant fruit notes of blackberry and dark currant add to the thick layering of the wine." Robert Parker
"Currants, sweet tobacco, walnut husk and flowers on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied, it grows on the palate, with firm yet polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Very solid and well-crafted second wine from Ornellaia." James Suckling

Ornus dell'Ornellaia, the sweet, golden-coloured late vintage from Petit Manseng, has an extraordinarily complex bouquet with distinct notes of ripe tropical fruit, dried apricots and blossom honey. On the palate, multi-layered, intense with an impressive balance between suppleness, assertive fruit and precise, lively acidity. In the endless finish, subtle notes of toasted oak and crème brûlée. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Ornus dell’Ornellaia, 100% Petit Manseng, is a gorgeous sweet wine. Candied apricot, passionfruit, orange jam, honey, spice and ginger lend notable complexity throughout. The 2019 is quite deep and intense, but with no excess weight. This is an especially fine edition." Vinous
"Packaged in its distinctive amphorae-shaped 375-milliliter bottle, the Ornellaia 2019 Ornus dell'Ornellaia (made with late-harvest Petit Manseng) shows a shiny golden color with polished copper highlights. The wine is redolent of sweet honey, dried apricot, jasmine and a touch of lemon blossom or bergamot. The mouthfeel is glycerine-rich and creamy, with a pretty heaviness that is packed with sweetness, fruit and the necessary acidity to invite sip after sip. This dessert wine is a lot of fun." Robert Parker
"A gorgeous sweet wine that brings a smile to your face. Dried apricots and flowers with peach pie on the nose. Full-bodied with medium sweetness and phenolic tension that gives you a firm and persistent mouth-feel. It tightens on the finish. Medium-sweet finish. Lovely acidity." James Suckling

The 2019 vintage was characterised by a changeable climate. Periods of cold and rain alternated with long periods of drought and heat. After a volatile spring and an almost perfect summer, the drop in temperatures at the end of September resulted in wines with great finesse and richness of aromas. Ornellaia 2019 ("Il Vigore" - The Life Force) is a powerful, mysterious and fascinating wine that does not reveal all its facets at the first tasting, but makes the palate curious to discover its different nuances.
Intense ruby red. Intriguing spicy and balsamic notes on the nose, including aromas of black pepper, sage and aromatic herbs. The wine is full-bodied and lively in the mouth, filling the palate with its dense and elegant tannic vein and ending with a persistent and wonderfully fresh final. Clear and firm on the palate, it only gradually reveals a terrific structure, fanning out fruit, tannins and a wonderfully harmonious acidity. One should not make the mistake of opening it too early, it will gain in elegance and depth over the years. SUPERIORE.DE
"The intense ruby red Ornellaia 2019 captivates with a seductively spicy bouquet, from which notes of black pepper, sage and herbs stand out in particular. On the palate, the wine introduces itself full-bodied and at the same time spirited, spoils with its intense, elegant tannins and finishes with a long-lasting, fresh note." Olga Fusari, Önologin
"This Ornellaia impresses already in the fragrance with a rather cool, elegant bouquet, more in the distinguished Bordeaux style instead of "Californian" as in the past. It remains true to its extremely spicy-etheric vein with wonderful Mediterranean maquis, balsamic notes and ripe red and blue fruits, but its impression is more one of elegance and freshness than concentration and pressure. On the palate, it is enormously juicy with concise density and gripping, but highly elaborate, tightly meshed tannins, a fine acidity makes it appear silky-elegant and yet also lively. This reminds not only Axel Heinz of 2015 and 2007." Weinwisser
"Rich ruby-violet. Very complex nose with notes of blackberry, cassis and elderberry, then fine spices, some cinnamon, cardamom and cedar. Polished and fine on the palate, opens with lots of fine-meshed tannin, ripe berry fruit, fireworks of spices on the back end, fine fruit melt." Falstaff
"A youthful red, concentrated and balanced, with blackberry, plum, earth and spice flavors gaining lift from the vibrant structure, while tannins envelop the lively fruit components. The finish is shored up by fine-grained tannins. This has all the components in the right place." Wine Spectator
"This is a beautiful expression of coastal Tuscany and the sunny Mediterranean. The Ornellaia 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia pours from the bottle with a specific darkness that has elements of both inky saturation and ruby highlights. The wine is saturated and rich - this is something you notice off the bat - but it also reveals a pleasing lightness or grace that is transmitted to both the bouquet and the palate. Dark fruit, pressed blackberry and plum mingle with more substantial aromas of spice, leather and sweetly cured tobacco. The tannins are beautifully managed, and the wine sports considerable heft and density on the palate that drives a very long and pleasurable mouthfeel." Robert Parker
"The aromas of blackcurrants, fresh basil and thyme, as well as cedar and sandalwood are so attractive. It’s full-bodied and very linear with tight tannins that draw you down the length of this young wine. Wet-earth and cool-stone undertones. It’s solid and so structured. A classic Ornellaia for the cellar. Try after 2027." James Suckling
"The 2019 Ornellaia is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted here. All the elements are so well-balanced. Dark and racy, with fabulous class and pedigree to burn, the 2019 is superb from the very first taste. Dark plum, mocha, new leather, licorice and spice build over time, but it is the wine’s stunning finesse that impresses most. The 2019 has the highest percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon since the 2002. That very much comes through in the wine’s vibrancy and aromatic presence." Vinous
"Pure delicious fruit expression on the nose, the best and brightest black cherry aromas, so pure and defined. Supremely elegant with delicate perfume surrounding the rich fruit aromas with a dusting of vanilla and milk chocolate. Excellent tension on the palate - you feel this is so direct and pristine, the flavours just driving from start to finish in one straight push but with concentration and intensity. It's not so layered or expansive at this point but so well executed - you can feel the power. Tannins are grippy with ripe blackcurrants, a fleshy kind of texture to the palate with a hint of dry stoniness and salinity on the finish alongside liquorice and clove. So young and too young to drink but this has incredible depth, confidence and restraint. It's sleeping now." Decanter

Every year, the release of the strictly limited artist's edition of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is a special treat. Today, too, we are pleased to be able to offer you a few copies of the latest edition "Il Vigore" (The Life Force) exclusively as a 0.75l single bottle. This special label is normally only reserved for large bottles (which are auctioned at Sotheby's), and the original wooden box with 6 bottles contains only one bottle of this coveted collector's item.
The artist's edition "Vendemmia d'Artista" has been around since 2006. Since then, renowned artists have been invited every year to decorate a small edition of single and bulk bottles of the world-famous Bolgheri Superiore. For the 2019 vintage, artists Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg have interpreted the power of the vines. The Swedish artist duo has been performing together since 2004, creating multi-sensory works with a strong emotional impact with and through the interplay of different media. In their interpretation of Ornellaia 2019, the artists have thematically focused on metamorphosis, the recurring cycle of nature and the symbiotic relationship between man and earth.
Winery manager Axel Heinz explains: "Il Vigore is the power of healthy plant growth, the active force in body and mind. It is the character of a wine that captures the senses and projects the taste into a natural environment of energy, power, strength and vitality. The taste, the aromatic nuances and the body of the wine transport it, as it were, into a spiritual dimension where the power of nature is at the heart of the experience".
As every year, the majority of the fine special editions will be auctioned at Sotheby's in autumn to get into the hands of lucky collectors. The proceeds go to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation to support the innovative "Mind's Eye" programme. Meanwhile, more than two million dollars have been donated to charity since the launch of the Vendemmia d'Artista. An impressive success that gives blind or visually impaired people the opportunity to discover and experience contemporary art.

Ornellaia Bianco is a cuvée of mainly Sauvignon Bianco from three selected, small vineyards of Tenuta dell'Ornellaia. It ferments on the lees for 10 months, which gives it freshness, precision and a fine citrus note. Delicate golden yellow. A cornucopia of bright fruits on the nose, along with wonderful mint and citrus notes. Complex, lush and multi-layered on the palate. One of Italy's great white wines, in the style of the house. SUPERIORE.DE
"We had a very cool spring in 2019 and almost as much rain as 2018. The biggest difference between the two years is that the summer of 2019 was much drier. We saw good day shifts that led to a late harvest. For example, we didn't have to harvest the Merlots as quickly as we often do. The harvest was a week later than in 2018." Axel Heinz, Weingutsdirektor
"Ornellaia Bianco 2019 has a straw yellow colour with green reflections. On the nose, it reveals a splendid complexity of pronounced vegetal and balsamic notes of sage, thyme and herbs, accompanied by the scent of fruits with bright flesh. The aromatic profile is complemented by a delicate vanilla note. In the mouth, the wine presents itself expansive and velvety, with a beautiful density that finely coats the palate. The tasting concludes with a long and tasty final, marked by a typical minerality that unmistakably reflects the wine's original terroir." Olga Fusari, Önologin
"The 2019 Ornellaia Bianco is a very reserved wine. It does not appear to have the depth of some of its predecessors, but that is mostly attributable to a shift in picking earlier and using more large format oak. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint, sage and green pear lend energy to this taut, Bordeaux-inspired blend. Readers should plan on cellaring this for at least a year." Vinous
"The Ornellaia 2019 Ornellaia Bianco is fragrant and fresh, but the wine also shows a rather robust side with extra concentration. This is a hallmark of the vintage, and you even notice it in the distinctive light golden hue that shines prettily from the glass. To the nose, the wine displays a summery set of aromas with stone fruit, ripe peach, midnight jasmine and a touch of fragrant beeswax. There is some density to the otherwise streamlined mouthfeel, with white almond flavors on the close and an elegant touch of crushed stone or chalk. This 2019 vintage is poised for more years of bottle age." Robert Parker
"Lots of sweat pear and ripe green apple on the nose with some lemon grass and green melon. Medium-to full-bodied with a solid core of fruit that is tight and focused. Stone and dried-flower undertones to it. Vivid, lemony finish. Serious phenolic tension and framing to the wine. Drinkable now, but will age beautifully in time." James Suckling
"So sophisticated and elegant, a brilliant expression of Sauvignon Blanc with smoky, stone, lemon aromas alongside pear and green apple - aromatic and so open. Excellent mouthfeel, there's such a lovely weight, slightly viscous with a hint of sweetness but then you get this clarity and complexity from clear aromatics but also the freshness. Nothing is too much, each part playing out in terms of weight, structure, acidity and length. It's the succulence then at the same time the salinity that captivated me, the two playing against each other with the support from plumped up and cushioned fruit giving the overall weight. Really lovely - a treat to taste." Decanter

2 bottles à 0,75l | "Ornellaia" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2010
Elegant, finesse-rich 2010 and thus the 25th edition of this cult classic with anniversary label: Complex, racy and delicately floral aroma of fully ripe cherries and black berries with noble, excellently integrated wood aromas. The tremendously harmonious taste reveals an impeccable fruit, dense, juicy and powerful, with melting, present tannins and ends in a decidedly powerful, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, impenetrable ruby with violet glints. Opens with discreet spicy notes, after tobacco, then lots of rich cassis notes, some elderberries. Shows a lot of fine, sturdy tannin on the palate, builds up in layers, deep and salty, long final and rich pressure, lots of tobacco." Falstaff
"Poured from the special anniversary bottle, the 2010 Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia is a truly outstanding wine that leaves a lasting memory for those who are lucky enough to enjoy it. What stands out is the absolutely seamless-seamless-seamless (yes, it's worth repeating three times) integration of its many moving parts. The wine magically transitions from cherry, spice, chocolate and espresso in one melodic and continuous loop. It exudes balance and elegance over long, delicious minutes. It is profoundly impressive." Robert Parker
"One of the highlights of the vintage on the Tuscan coast, the 2010 Ornellaia is dazzling. A tightly wound, powerful wine, the 2010 is going to need a few years in the cellar to show the full breadth of its potential and class. Still, it is impossible to miss the wine's pure pedigree and class. Freshly cut flowers, mocha, tobacco, grilled herbs and plums burst from the glass in this beautifully layered, polished Ornellaia. The 2010 is vivid, nuanced and precise from start to finish. I can't wait to see how it develops over the coming years. Today, the 2010 is all about precision, vibrancy and saline-infused energy. I very much like the way the wine continues to open up in the glass." Vinous

Characterised by sunshine, the early 2011 vintage expresses its characteristics at the highest level. It presents itself to the eye with a young and intense colour. The nose registers intense, fully ripe and at the same time fresh and vibrant fruit aromas, which are underpinned by delicate balsamic hints and toasted notes. On the palate, its great concentration is striking, accompanied by an impressive but also velvety and polished tannic structure, allowing it to fully expand in the mouth without leaving a feeling of heaviness. On the finish, balsamic and spicy tones and a welcome note of freshness linger for a long time. Ornellaia 2011 is an awe-inspiring masterpiece. Depth, richness, elegance, ultra-fine tannins, lots of potential, but already a great drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, impenetrable ruby violet. Initially shows emphatic mineral notes, then lots of ripe dark currants, some blueberries, behind that rich liquorice and dark chocolate. Fills out the palate powerfully, very dense, compact tannin, lots of tobacco, cassis rich, profound, reverberating of noble cigars, very long." Falstaff
"This shows incredible concentration with dark-berry, dark-chocolate, mint and rosemary character. Full body with a superb depth of fruit and polished tannins. It's chewy but caressing. This needs at least four or five years to come around. Powerful and intense. Yet it remains fresh and bright." James Suckling
"The 2011 Ornellaia is another gorgeous wine. Mocha, plums, tobacco and licorice blossom from the glass in a rich, seamless wine endowed with stunning depth. Savory notes develop later, adding depth and resonance." Vinous
"A dark, inky red, featuring violet, black currant, cedar, sandalwood and iron aromas and flavors. Nonetheless, this comes across as elegant, even as the tannins prove formidable on the finish. A terrific young wine in the making." Wine Spectator

The 2012 vintage is an awe-inspiring masterpiece. Depth, richness, elegance, ultra-fine tannins, lots of potential, but already a great drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE
"2012 was a sunny and predominantly dry year. The rains came just in time before the harvest, allowing the vines to recover wonderfully from the drought and excessive heat and to ripen homogeneously. The wines are wide and generous, their character highly seductive and flattering, not to say enchanting. Ornellaia 2012 presents itself in a rich ruby red, the intense nose is wonderfully fruity and spicy. On the palate, it reveals itself to be wide and round, without rough edges, with smooth tannins. Of course, 2012 does not lack the proverbial concentration that characterises all great Ornellaia vintages; but this vintage hides it behind a generous and lush structure and finishes with a long final." Axel Heinz, Director
"Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate water edge. Black berries, cassis and liquorice, candied violets, mineral touch, fine noble wood note. Complex, taut, fine nougat, present, carrying tannin that still needs a lot of time, dark berry fruit in the finish, mineral, please wait ..." Falstaff
"This seamless blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (56%), Merlot (27%), Cabernet Franc (10%) and Petit Verdot (7%) shows some of the roundness and softness of that summer heat. The wine's density and extraction are spot-on and the bouquet is beautifully shaped by dark cherry nuances with spice, leather and tobacco at the back. There is a gorgeous sense of richness and plushness here." Robert Parker
"The 2012 Ornellaia has put on quite a bit of weight since I first tasted it from bottle a few months ago. Rich, powerful and concentrated, the 2012 offers plenty of depth and intensity, with expressive fruit and striking mid-palate intensity. Dark red cherry jam, wild flowers, licorice, smoke, tobacco and mint blossom in the glass. There is a very slight element of dryness in the tannin that is the signature of a year in which ripening took place in fits and starts. It will be interesting to see if that note softens over time." Vinous
"A tight and silky red with compacted fruit and tannin texture featuring blackcurrant, mushroom and bark undertones. Full body, firm tannins and a minerally finish. Excellent structure and mouthfeel. A cooler style of Ornellaia, bringing it back to the classicism of this celebrated region." James Suckling

It is a role model for viticulture in Italy, especially in Tuscany, and a brand that need not fear comparison with the world's greatest wine houses at all. We are talking about Ornellaia. For years, the importance of this picturesque winery in Bolgheri has been growing. Wines from the house were a safer investment than gold between 2007 and 2013. Moreover, the price fluctuations were comparatively low. This is the result of an investigation by the Sotheby's auction house and Liv-Ex, an international wine exchange in London. The Tuscan exceptional estate was founded by Lodovico Antinori in 1981. Later, Mondavi took over the majority of the capital. Today, the company belongs to the Frescobaldi family from Florence. Ornellaia's products are enjoyed in 60 countries around the world, the export quota is about 30 percent. The deliveries go to prestigious customers and important collectors. Demand regularly exceeds bottle production by far.
The vineyards of this imaginative family-run winery extend partly along the Via Bolgherese and in Bellaria, in the north-west of Bolgheri. The almost perfect winery relies on classic Bordeaux varieties in its plots. Depending on the subzone, the soils are characterised by alluvial, volcanic or marine origin. The proximity to the sea and the protection provided by the neighbouring hills favour a microclimate in which the grapes can ripen perfectly. Gentle sea breezes soften the summer heat, and in winter the hills protect against icy winds.
The elite growths of the winery, blessed with expert staff, are impeccable in their modern style and technique. They reflect the character of the terroir and the superb skills of their producers. The grapes from each site are fermented separately, as each base wine is meant to express the different facets of its parcel of origin - the soils, the sun exposure and the grape variety. Only after one year of barrel ageing are the wines blended together. Even in difficult years, the estate produces remarkable wines.
However, the prestigious winery not only produces wines of the highest quality, but also attaches great importance to culture. In 2009, the Vendemmia d'Artista project was launched. Its aim is to revive the tradition of art patronage from the Renaissance and to set it in a contemporary context each year with a strictly limited small edition (large formats only). SUPERIORE.DE
"The Ornellaia is an immensely lush wine with a wonderful depth of flavour. The Masseto is usually more massive and powerful. Both are among the best (and most expensive) reds in Italy. Even the second set, Le Serre Nuove and Le Volte, are delicious." Der große Johnson
"Ornellaia: 91 hectares planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (43 ha), Merlot (33 ha), Cabernet Franc (7 ha) and Petit Verdot (8 ha). Only 76 hectares are currently in production: 30 hectares in the original vineyard, another 46 hectares in the Bellaria vineyard just beyond Bolgheri, which has been part of the company since 1993. A revealing vertical tasting of 10 Ornellaia vintages - presented in Zurich by Leonardo Raspini, the winery's director - showed that the quality has improved noticeably over the past few years: thanks to increasingly older vines, more rigorous quantity restrictions and the introduction of a second wine. It was also clear that Ornellaia produces remarkable wines even in difficult years. Weinwisser
