Light straw yellow with greenish reflections. In the bouquet some grapefruit, white flowers and freshly cut grass - the addition of a few percent Sauvignon Bianco gives in aromatic intensity and certain depth. A sparkling white wine, which ends cheerfully with a light citrus note, making it a perfect terrace wine - solo or with light, cold served antipasti. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Chianti Classico DOCG 2017

      Chianti Classico DOCG 2017

Brilliant ruby red, notes of cherry, raspberry and violet. Delicately fine tannins, supported by a fresh acid structure, round off the incredibly inexpensive Tuscany experience. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby red with a light purple tinge. Fine and inviting nose of ripe strawberries and raspberries, great fruit sweetness. On the palate still very young, although crisp and juicy, fresh fruit in the aftertaste, in the finale still clearly young tannin perceptible, promising." Falstaff

"San Felice's 2017 Chianti Classico is a very pretty and expressive wine in its peer group. Aromatic, layered and inviting, San Felice's Chianti Classico has a lot to offer. Crushed flowers, mint, sage and spice notes add gorgeous top notes to a core of dark Sangiovese fruit." Vinous

    • "Il Grigio" Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2016

“Il Grigio” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2016

Straight ruby red. Lively nose of small primary fruity red berries, discreet use of wood and an impressive breed and complexity for the price. On the palate precise and firm, shows courageously and determines its origin. Then a harmonious mix of tobacco, leather, cedar wood and of course cherry and plum. The finely tuned tannin carries this powerful and impressive Riserva into a long final. Impressive, not only because of its extremely moderate price! SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio is a beautiful wine with an inky dark appearance and softly contoured aromas of ripe cherry and dried blackberry. There is plenty of spice, tar and sweet tobacco to smooth over that beautiful fruit intensity; this is the sort of Chianti Classico you'd open for a marinated ribeye on the grill. The wine is compact and tight in the mouth. Il Grigio is one of Italy's ultimate value reds." Robert Parker

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio da San Felice is 80% Sangiovese and 20% other native grapes. Perfumed and lifted, with a touch more aromatic nuance than the straight Il Grigio, the 2015 has much to offer, even if the two wines aren't all that differentiated." VINOUS

"Here is a beautifully polished and elegant wine from the team at San Felice in Castelnuovo Berardegna. The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio is a supple and silky expression that delivers ripe fruit tones that are framed by mineral tones with mild spice and fragrant red rose. • "Pugnitello" Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

      “Pugnitello” Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

Deep dark ruby violet. Pugnitello inspires with intense notes of elderberry and blackberry, in between discreet smoky notes, in the background slightly peppery. Juicy base with well structured body, dense, gripping tannin, long and persistent with salty component. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is a wine I always look forward to tasting year after year. It is pretty much the only pure expression of the fascinating Pugnitello grape I run into during my annual tastings. The 2013 Pugnitello shows darkness of color and leaves a powerful mark in terms of aromas. Those cherry and black currant characteristics are enriched and sharply defined. This indigenous grape is named after a "little fist" due to the clutched and tight nature of its small clusters. You taste that extra concentration in the mouth where the wine wraps tightly over the palate with firm structure and rich texture." Robert Parker

"This is layered and structured with excellent ripe tannins and fruit. Full and softly textured yet with a vibrant end to it. One to watch. Very Super Tuscan." James Suckling

    • "Vigorello" Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

      “Vigorello” Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

A balsamic and enveloping bouquet, rich and mature Cassis scent, concentrated and deep on the palate, present tannins, nice juiciness and freshness, long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Full, dark ruby. Intense, present nose, smells of plums, cassis and mulberries, freshly chopped meat. The materiality of the base and course unfolds with notes of pomegranate, blueberry and plum, nice cardamom spice and a rich finish in the finale." Falstaff

"San Felice's 2013 Vigorello is a blend of Pugnitello, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Grilled herbs, lavender, mint, black cherry all flesh out in this deep, flavorful red. Silky tannins wrap around a core of plush fruit. This is an especially dense, rich style." Antonio Galloni

"The 2013 Vigorello is made with Bordeaux grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot) blended with 35% of the recently rediscovered Pugnitello grape that was once more commonly planted across Central Italy. This is a dark and robust expression that boasts a very sharp and focused aromatic presentation. Like other wines from this classic vintage, this Tuscan red feels compacted and extra tight on the palate. It needs another few years before it fully opens and softens." Robert Parker

“Poggio Rosso” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013

The 2013 Poggio Rosso is a true monument among the Gran Selezione of this outstanding vintage. Full concentration yet subtle elegance that is second to none. Be sure to aerate with pleasure or leave to mature in the cellar for another 5 years ... SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful ruby, shining. Intense and appealing nose with many ripe cherries, blackberry, also a little raspberry, nice play, some liquorice. On the palate it shows a lot of fine-meshed tannin, covered with sweet enamel, juicy, very well integrated acidity, clear and straightforward". Falstaff

"This is a big and linear Chianti Classico with plenty of structure and depth. Chocolate, walnut and berry character. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso is packed with intensity and dark fruit that peels back in thick layers. The wine ferments on the skins for up to 25 days followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French oak for 20 months. It sees another 15 months in bottle before its commercial release. This is a robust and thickly textured expression of 100% Sangiovese that opens to inky garnet saturation. This wine is tight at its core but is well padded with generous layers of dark fruit and plum. It needs a few more years to relax and shed some of that youthful, nervous tension. This is a wine that could easily be put aside for another five years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

Ruby violet, sparkling and profoundly blackberry and slightly nougat fragrant, with a delicate lilac note behind. Juicy taste with dark cherry aromas, multi-layered, very long, fine mineral notes in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby red with a sparkling core and slightly brightening rim. In the nose medium expressiveness, spicy, peppery, slightly animal, tender fruit. In the drink present acidity and fruit, exciting, very lively, on the palate firm pressure in the aftertaste." Falstaff

"Aromas of cherry, plum, earth and mineral indicate complexity right off the bat. The center is rich and packed with ripe fruit, while the muscular finish winds down slowly, showing elements of mineral, tar and tobacco. Serious, and should age well." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio da San Felice, 100% Sangiovese, is racy and polished. The French oak is pushed to the edge, and yet the wine has enough richness and depth to handle it. Readers should expect a plush, deep Riserva. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, cedar and new leather meld into the pliant, racy finish." Vinous

"Underbrush, leather, charred earth, baked plum and a whiff of camphor form the nose. The taut, savory palate offers fleshy Marasca cherry, truffle and baking spice set against fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio is one of my favorite wines among this group of new releases from San Felice. That low price is one reason. The wine exhibits a very lively and juicy quality of primary fruit that gives it that extra edge. Dark cherry and plum are followed up by leather, tar, licorice and grilled herb. This is a great near or medium-term drinking choice." Robert Parker

"Another Chianti Classico Riserva that shows such purity of fruit, with brambleberries, blackcurrants, morello cherries, dark plums and a dash of dried herbs. Loads of fresh fruit on the palate that’s set across a frame of pretty acidity and a web of finely wrought tannins. A chewy yet taut finish." James Suckling

    San Felice

Actually, it's a whole village, not just a vineyard. Antica Pieve San Felice in Pincis, a historic complex with church and rural settlement near Castelnuovo Berardenga in southern Chianti Classico, dates back to the Etruscans, later hotly embroiled in the wars between Florence and Siena. Throughout history it has been owned by various local families, most recently the Grisaldi del Taja, co-founder of the Consorzio Chianti Classico. For centuries, olives and vines have been cultivated on the vast areas of woodland and agriculture.

As early as 1968, the company began to abandon the use of white grapes, as prescribed in the Chianti Classico, and pressed the Vigorello, the "expressive". Today it is often referred to as the first Supertuscan. The following year, the Il Grigio came onto the market, which was to set the trend for the development of the San Felice winery. The idea of pressing a wine only from Sangiovese was absolutely right.

So it was only logical that at the end of the 1970s, when the winery came into the possession of the Allianz Group, the first Cru, i.e. a Chianti Classico from a single vineyard, should also be produced; this vineyard is called Poggio Rosso, as is the wine of the same name.

The vineyards of San Felice are situated at an average altitude of about 400 metres above sea level in a rocky hilly area made up of different layers of rock, from Galestro to limestone and clay. The interplay of cool offshore winds at night and mild sea breezes during the day develops the fruity, elegant aroma.

In addition to Sangiovese, the long-term oenologist Leonardo Bellaccini also dedicates himself to many autochthonous grape varieties, many of which he has saved from extinction in collaboration with the Universities of Pisa and Florence. The "vicitiarium" cultivates more than a hundred grape varieties and has become a showcase project. Some of the old grape varieties are used as blending partners in Chianti Classico, the "Pugnitello" has become a rare and sought-after wine from the grape of the same name.

In the last decades a lot has been invested and lovingly restored. Not only in the vineyards and the cellar, but also in the historical building fabric. This is how Borgo San Felice, Relais & Chateaux with hotel, restaurant, osteria, wellness as well as event and conference facilities.

For some years now, the small Perolla winery near Massa Marittima in the Maremma has been part of the San Felice estate. Here red wines are produced as well as Rosato from Cabernet, Merlot, Ciliegiolo and Sangiovese, like the often excellent Poggibano. The white wine produced from the Maremannic grape variety Vermentino, which thrives particularly well in the Mediterranean climate near the Tyrrhenian coast, is particularly exciting.

San Felice also includes Campogiovanni in Montalcino, where excellent Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino have been built since the mid-1980s, as well as the young Bolgheri estate Bell.'Aja, where Bolgheri Rosso and Bolgheri Superiore are created, which you can also find in our assortment.
