• "Piandorino" Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

      “Piandorino” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Pinadorino, the "entry wine" from the house Pian dell'Orino, represents with a lot of class his origin. Bright, bright ruby red, beautiful bouquet of dark cherry, fresh plum, peppery note and delicate vanilla tones. On the palate a juicy fruit, accompanied by a flattering wood note, finely balanced tannin and good length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Entry-level wines should all aspire to this. The 2015 Piandorino exhibits delicate floral notes with violets and wild cherries backed by delicate earthy tones. Fruit for this wine comes from the youngest vines that are planted in thick clay soils. This wine is fine and beautifully delicate on the finish. Only 3,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

One hundred percent Sangiovese conjure up a wonderful mineral scent of dark fruits and a powerful taste with firm tannins. Spicy, well structured Rosso on a clear Brunello level! SUPERIORE.DE

"Showing great depth and a clean, tonic style, the 2013 Rosso di Montalcino is streamlined and tight with bright berry fruit that emerges high and tall from the bouquet. The wine's intensity is very evident especially when tasted next to Pian dell'Orino's IGT Sangiovese. The quality of fruit is fresh and pronounced and like all of the wines from this estate, this expression is characterized by an extremely polished and silky approach. It reaches seamless integration."Robert Parker

"Pian dell'Orino takes Rosso di Montalcino to another level with their sublime 2013. Bright, focused and wonderfully articulated, the Rosso literally bristles with energy. Sweet red cherry, raspberry, rose petals and blood orange are all beautifully delineated in the glass. What a striking, gorgeous wine this is."Antonio Galloni

"This is the only new release from Pian dell’Orino at this time. The 2014 Rosso di Montalcino is bright and crisp with wild berry fruit, earthy notes and a drying touch of crushed mineral. That firm acidic grip is very important to the overall intensity and length of this centered Rosso. These are results of which to be proud. "The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino is soft, supple and very pretty. Sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, mint, licorice and dried herbs add lovely aromatic nuance to this mid-weight, gracious Rosso. Silky fruit and soft contours add to the wine's considerable personality, immediacy and appeal. The 2015 is not super-complex, but it is immensely delicious. Drink it over the next handful of years." Vinous

"I tasted the 2015 and 2016 vintages of this wine side by side and am therefore in a position to compare the two in real time. The 2015 Rosso di Montalcino shows more thickness, more fiber, more fruity succulence and spice. Of course, this is absolutely characteristic of this warm and sunny vintage. This was a textbook growing season, with rain coming at the right time and ripening proceeding on schedule. This Rosso offers pretty cherry fruit and blackberry. You get some of that crunchiness that I often associate with Sangiovese." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is a pretty, gracious wine with tons of Sangiovese floral and savory notes. Black cherry, game, licorice, menthol and spice add character to this vibrant, deep Rosso. I would give the 2016 a few years in bottle to be at its best, as it is presently very shut down, its considerable appeal notwithstanding. This is such a gorgeous and expressive wine." Vinous

"The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino is a beauty with bright and crunchy fruit that is impossible to ignore. If a Rosso can taste so good, we have great things to look forward to when the 2016 Brunellos hit the market in under two years' time. From a farming point of view, 2016 was not as easy as the no-brainer 2015 growing season. This vintage had more rain and mildew-related issues. Some vineyard spots even saw damaging hail. Pian dell'Orino made more Rosso and IGT wine in 2016 to make up for these challenges. But the UV light and the luminous quality of 2016 sparked magical results, says Pian dell'Orino proprietor Jan Hendrik Erbach. The fruit is glossy, firm and pure." Robert Parker

    • Rosso di Montalcino "Bassolino" DOC 2014

Rosso di Montalcino “Bassolino” DOC 2014

Due to the climate and the small quantities, owner Caroline Pobitzer decided not to vinify Brunello 2014. The Montalcino lover will therefore get a Rosso Bassolino in his glass, which is certainly one of the best of its vintage. Deep ruby red. A bewitching bouquet of ripe red cherries, some raspberry jam, violets, cinnamon and minerals. Dense and lush in the mouth, with creamy aromas of ripe red cherry and violet notes supported by a harmonious acidity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Here's a bit of breaking news. When I went to the winery to taste this wine, it was geared up to be classified as a Brunello di Montalcino. The idea was to use the best fruit that could be obtained from the Bassolino vineyard in this difficult vintage. Only 3,000 bottles plus a few magnums were made. Just hours after my tasting, I got an email from proprietor Caroline Pobitzer saying that the Brunello I had tasted, would in fact be declassified as Rosso. In effect, the 2014 Rosso di Montalcino Bassolino has the DNA and the pedigree of a Brunello, but the qualities of the vintage make the wine lean on impact and ephemeral in terms of its bouquet. It's all about grace and poise without that distinctive brawn you get in Brunello. But if your palate veers toward the light, elegant and fragile side of the Sangiovese spectrum, you should scoop up as many bottles as possible because this wine speaks directly to those tastes. The wine is beautifully balanced and carefully acidic in all the right spots." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Vigneti del Versante" DOCG 2011

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigneti del Versante” DOCG 2011

In 2011 the owners renounced the separate vinification of Vigneti del Versante and Bassolino di Sopra. Thus all Brunello grapes of the exceptional vineyard got into this wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante offers lovely density and richness, but it also comes across as a bit monolithic and not totally put together just yet, an impression that is reinforced by a slight hint of reduction in the bouquet. With time in the glass, the sweet red cherry and plum fruit begins to emerge. Tobacco, rose petal and orange peel add the closing shades of nuance." Antonio Galloni

"This wine is now identified by a single vineyard designation but was once the estate's annata Brunello. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante (with vines planted in 1997) shows some signs of the vintage heat, but really only in terms of textural roundness and general softness. The bouquet sings loud and clear with red fruit aromas of cherry and blackberry. The fruit is nicely balanced by those elegant, ethereal notes of blue flower, balsam herb, cola and crushed pine nut that are characteristic of aged Sangiovese." Robert Parker

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigneti del Versante” DOCG 2013

Pian Dell'With its Brunello Vigneti del Versante 2013, Orino has undoubtedly achieved one of the most exciting wines in Montalcino. From the bright ruby red emerge warm, very seductive aromas of black cherries, flowers, tobacco, minerals and undergrowth. The interplay between the rich fruit and the classic structure is ingenious. The taste captivates with its intensity, luxurious and mysterious dark. Love at first sight! SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby garnet. Scent of cherry and raspberry in the nose. Very appealing on the palate, opens with a rich, firm tannin, ripe berry fruit and fine fruit sweetness, in the finale discreet iodine." Falstaff

"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante exhibits an immediate sense of depth and complexity. Winemaking saw minimal movement or pump-overs because Jan Hendrik Erbach tends to keep his wines in reduction for a long as possible in order to slow down their evolution. This is especially important in an immediate and accessible vintage like 2013. This expression is profound and precise with sharply etched aromas of wild berry, licorice, lavender and lightly roasted almond. Violets flood over the palate, backed by silky fine texture." • Brunello di Montalcino "Vigneti del Versante" DOCG 2012

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigneti del Versante” DOCG 2012

Until 2009 "Vigneti del Versante" was still the brunello of the house. The grapes come from the Pian dell vineyards.’Orino, Pian Bassolino, Vigna Scopeta and Vigna Cancello Rosso. After three years of maturation, this proud Brunello comes unfiltered and only slightly sulphurated on the bottle to mature another year in the cellar.

Beautifully beguiling bouquet of cedar wood, black cherries and a hint of tobacco. Seductively the perfect balance between fruit sweetness and fine acidity, which together with the firm structure and the still youthful tannins make up the recipe for a top Brunello. Deep and complex, with a never-ending finish, this wine will mature for many years to its final size. SUPERIORE.DE

"This wine exudes elegant power and linear finesse. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante has not yet been released. In fact, it will hit the market after the younger 2013 vintage. We should expect to see it in the fall of 2018. The bouquet offers so much care and detailing that all comes together like a massive ceiling fresco in an Italian Renaissance palace. The bouquet allows for a big picture perspective with wild cherry, rose hip, dried ginger, rosemary and spice. The mouthfeel is firm, almost crunchy. Swirl the glass a few times and savory tones of moist earth and exotic tea begin to appear. This is a beautiful wine worth waiting for." Robert Parker

Also on the palate a lot of ripe fruit, raspberry and plum, unfolds with firm, non-slip tannin, enveloped in a nice enamel, in the finish firm pressure." Falstaff

The wine is extremely elegant, especially in the delicate way it puts forth its ethereal aromas of cola, licorice and grilled herb layer after layer. The palate delivers structure and good freshness." Robert Parker

From the bright ruby red emerge warm, very seductive aromas of black cherries, flowers, tobacco, minerals and undergrowth. The interplay between the rich fruit and the classic structure is ingenious. This is slightly more floral and less fruity than the 2012 Brunello Vigneti del Versante, but each wine will win its share of fans." Vinous

"This wine immediately grabs your attention and focus thanks to the incredible purity and intensity that lifts so gracefully from the glass. The bouquet presents aromas of dried cherry, cassis, freshly tilled soil and wild rose. The wine carries itself with majesty, floating or gliding over the palate with silky smoothness. Pian dell'Orino

The small but fine Brunello vineyard Pian dell'Orino is located on traditional land in the immediate vicinity of the estate of the famous Biondi-Santi family. It was founded in 1996 by Caroline Pobitzer out of love for Tuscany and out of joy in viticulture. After Jan Hendrik Erbach from Karlsruhe, graduate of the renowned Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, fell in love with the estate owner from South Tyrol in the winery, both expanded and modernised the estate with a great deal of passion and wine knowledge and finally made it one of the leading wineries in Montalcino.

The wines come from four different vineyards which cover a total of six hectares and are cultivated according to the biodynamic guidelines of Rudolf Steiner. In order to be able to press individual and recognizable drops from each location in the new wine cellar completed in 2007, the two winegrowers have carefully studied the individual soil structures in recent years. From the very beginning they have concentrated on the local Sangiovese grosso grape variety. In addition to the near-natural cultivation, mini yields, hand-picked grapes and an appropriate maturation in wood in Pian dell'Orino plants are created that are extremely complex and have a broad spectrum of aromas.

For Caroline and Jan Hendrik, moon phases that have an effect on life and nature are important decision-making aids for their work, as they regulate the growth of the vines and consolidate the quality of the wines. In the cellar, the energy consumption is kept within limits according to a well-thought-out system of supply and exhaust air. The materials used throughout the operation promote optimum exchange of humidity and air.

The impressive development of Pian dell'Orino have long been duly honoured by relevant wine critics. For exampleRobert Parker, Brunello des on the way between Montalcino and Castelnuovo dell'Abate in an outstanding microclimatic location have already been awarded a fabulous 97 points. SUPERIORE.DE
