Brunello di Montalcino “Bassolino di Sopra” DOCG 2015
Warm, very seductive aromas of black cherries, flowers, tobacco, minerals and undergrowth emerge from the bright ruby red. The interplay between the rich fruit and the classic structure is ingenious. The taste captivates with its intensity, luxurious and mysterious. SUPERIORE.DE
"Autumnal spices, sweet herbs and white smoke give way to ripe cherries and hints of licorice as the deeply seductive 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Bassolino di Sopra unfolds in the glass. This envelops the palate in opulent textural fruits (red and hints of blue), with balsam herbs and nuances of candied citrus lifted by bright acidity. Sweet tannins frame the expression nicely through the slightly candied finish; yet make no mistake, while the Bassolino di Sopra may show the sunny nature of the 2015 vintage, it does so in a wonderfully harmonious way. This single-vineyard Brunello is simply a pleasure to taste and will continue to wow readers over the next 15–20 years." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigneti del Versante” DOCG 2016 · MAGNUM in OWC
Warm, very seductive aromas of black cherries, flowers, tobacco, minerals and undergrowth emerge from the bright ruby red. The interplay between the rich fruit and the classic structure is ingenious. The taste captivates with its intensity, luxurious and mysteriously dark. Love at first sight! SUPERIORE.DE
"Stands out positively; gossamer reduction, liquorice, violets, cool herbal spice, menthol and mint, blue fruit, ultra elegant already in the aroma; continues on the palate spicy and drinky, contemporary and classic at the same time, animating for all its power." Meiningers Sommelier
"The organic and biodynamic Pian dell'Orino 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante is drinking beautifully right now. Released later than its peers, this Sangiovese showcases the power, precision and elegance of the iconic 2016 vintage. Yet the wine also offers enough distance from the harvest to enable additional complexity thanks to barrel and bottle aging. A dark garnet appearance sets the stage, and the bouquet follows in lockstep with pressed cherry, dark plum, spice, balsam herb and an unexpected interjection of freshly cut red rose. The wine's aromas are delivered with generous and transparent intensity. On the palate, Vigneti del Versante is rich and dense, offering silky tannins with crunch. There is a hint of salty mineral at the very end. Exactly 7,556 bottles exist." Wine Advocate
"Crushed stone, wild herbs and tart black cherries lift up from the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante, but that’s only the beginning. With time, this blossoms further, gaining a sweeter fruit profile and autumnal spices with hints of shaved cedar. Its textures are remarkably refined and silky in feel, with an intense concentration of tart red fruits, yet energy is maintained through brilliant acidity, as grippy tannins build steadily toward the close. The Vigneti del Versante tapers off with amazing length, youthful poise and a balanced structure, promising many, many years of positive evolution. This is really something to behold. I tasted the 2016 from a freshly opened bottle and from one that had been opened for two days prior that showed no signs of decline; in fact, it blossomed further. Simply stunning." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2004 · MAGNUM in OWC
Very dark colour and a memorable, dense fragrance of ripe cherry fruit, violet and undergrowth. Inviting on the palate, slim and firm, tannin and acidity very well integrated into the juicy fruit. An adult wine with the typical fruity charm of the excellent Tuscany vintage 2004. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, sparkling ruby. Multilayered, after ripe plums, some leather and mushrooms in the background. "Stoffig und gripping, full-bodied, pithy tannin, covered with fine fruit melt, salty." Falstaff "Barbecue smoke and mesquite wood are the most immediate aromas you will notice here. You'll also recognize background tones of black peppercorn, lead pencil and licorice. The wine delivers loads of intensity in the mouth." Wine Enthusiast

Brunello di Montalcino “Vigneti del Versante” DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
Up to and including 2009, "Vigneti del Versante" was still the house's vintage Brunello. The grapes come from the vineyards Pian dell'Orino, Pian Bassolino, Vigna Scopeta and Vigna Cancello Rosso. After three years of ageing, this proud Brunello is bottled unfiltered and only slightly sulphured to mature for another year in the cellar.
Beautifully beguiling bouquet of cedar wood, black cherries and a hint of tobacco. Seductive the perfect balance between fruit sweetness and fine acidity, which, together with the firm structure and the tannins that are still youthful today, is the recipe for a top Brunello. Deep and complex, with a never-ending finish, this wine will age to its ultimate greatness for many years to come. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante is a brilliant ruby color in the glass, with a deep and rich bouquet that mixes autumnal spice with sweet tobacco and sugar-dusted plums. It’s seamlessly silky, enveloping the palate in opulent strawberry and raspberry fruit that gain a grippy tension as saline-mineral tones saturate. Its tannins have rounded over the last ten years, making for a lightly structured yet completely satisfying and approachable Brunello. A vivid note of hard red candies lingers on. Always humble, Jan Hendrik Erbach admits that he may have had a better experience with a shorter maceration (five weeks in this case), yet he strives to capture as much character from the skins as possible. The 2012 was all refined in a new 40-hectoliter cask. You can feel the warmth of the year, but the balance is on point, aided by pronounced acidity." Vinous
"This wine exudes elegant power and linear finesse. The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante has not yet been released. In fact, it will hit the market after the younger 2013 vintage. We should expect to see it in the fall of 2018. The bouquet offers so much care and detailing that all comes together like a massive ceiling fresco in an Italian Renaissance palace. The bouquet allows for a big picture perspective with wild cherry, rose hip, dried ginger, rosemary and spice. The mouthfeel is firm, almost crunchy. Swirl the glass a few times and savory tones of moist earth and exotic tea begin to appear. This is a beautiful wine worth waiting for." Wine Advocate

Brunello di Montalcino “Bassolino di Sopra” DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
With the Brunello Bassolino di Sopra, Pian Dell'Orino has undoubtedly succeeded in creating one of the most exciting Brunellos of the 2012 vintage.
"A translucent ruby with purple hues in the glass, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Bassolino di Sopra wafts up with an incredibly pretty mix of dusty dried roses, cedar spice box, wild strawberries and incense. This is elegance personified, yet also delicate in character, with a silken wave of ripe red fruits laced with sweet herbs tones, as mildly grippy tannins slowly saturate toward the close. The 2012 Bassolino di Sopra is still structured through the finale, leaving a primary concentration that creates youthful poise, as wild berry nuances slowly fade. It’s amazing, but this still needs time and has the balance to last." Vinous
"This wine immediately grabs your attention and focus thanks to the incredible purity and intensity that lifts so gracefully from the glass. The bouquet presents aromas of dried cherry, cassis, freshly tilled soil and wild rose. The wine carries itself with majesty, floating or gliding over the palate with silky smoothness. The longer you contemplate the bouquet, the more aware you become of its complexity and depth. It closes with dark and almost spicy fruit intensity." Wine Advocate

The small but fine Brunello vineyard Pian dell'Orino is located on traditional land in the immediate vicinity of the estate of the famous Biondi-Santi family. It was founded in 1996 by Caroline Pobitzer out of love for Tuscany and out of joy in viticulture. After Jan Hendrik Erbach from Karlsruhe, graduate of the renowned Geisenheim University of Applied Sciences, fell in love with the estate owner from South Tyrol in the winery, both expanded and modernised the estate with a great deal of passion and wine knowledge and finally made it one of the leading wineries in Montalcino.
The wines come from four different vineyards which cover a total of six hectares and are cultivated according to the biodynamic guidelines of Rudolf Steiner. In order to be able to press individual and recognizable drops from each location in the new wine cellar completed in 2007, the two winegrowers have carefully studied the individual soil structures in recent years. From the very beginning they have concentrated on the local Sangiovese grosso grape variety. In addition to the near-natural cultivation, mini yields, hand-picked grapes and an appropriate maturation in wood in Pian dell'Orino plants are created that are extremely complex and have a broad spectrum of aromas.
For Caroline and Jan Hendrik, moon phases that have an effect on life and nature are important decision-making aids for their work, as they regulate the growth of the vines and consolidate the quality of the wines. In the cellar, the energy consumption is kept within limits according to a well-thought-out system of supply and exhaust air. The materials used throughout the operation promote optimum exchange of humidity and air.
The impressive development of Pian dell'Orino have long been duly honoured by relevant wine critics. For exampleRobert Parker, Brunello des on the way between Montalcino and Castelnuovo dell'Abate in an outstanding microclimatic location have already been awarded a fabulous 97 points. SUPERIORE.DE
"It is admirable what Pian dell'Orino in just a few years ... In this winery, the Sangiovese wine stands out for its striking finesse and crystalline purity."Robert Parker
