“Il Nero di Casanova” Sangiovese Toscana IGT 2019
Il Nero fascinates with intense, multi-layered aromas of dark cherries, leather, liquorice and tobacco in an elegant, almost delicate frame, typical of an authentic Sangiovese. Fruity on the palate and with silky tannins at its core, the finish is long and pleasantly perfumed. SUPERIORE.DE
"Vibrant wild strawberries and ripe cherry tomatoes give way to savory aromas of grilled meat, mushrooms and balsamic vinegar on the nose before the palate returns to the strawberries and gives them a pop of acidity and firm tannins." Wine Enthusiast

The young winery La Spinetta Casanova is situated in the village Terricciola between Pisa and Volterra in the hilly area of Chianti. Here the Rivetti brothers, equipped with great entrepreneurial skills, produce wines from the three indigenous grape varieties Sangiovese, Colorino and Vermentino.
The best Tuscan wines of the family clan, which previously wrote one of the most wonderful wine stories in Piedmont and whose labels are rhinoceros – a woodcut by Albrecht Dürer - come from the individual vineyards of Sezzana and Sassontino. They are made entirely from Sangiovese grapes from vines well over 50 years old. The main production of the wine house, which benefits in particular from Giorgio Rivetti's exceptional talent, is Il Nero di Casanova and Chianti Riserva. Both plants are pressed from the Tuscan parade variety. Some time ago, a very interesting dry rosé was added to the range. All La Spinetta Casanova products are pleasant to drink right from the start. Despite their tannin strength, they have style and cut.
In the cellar the wines are subjected to an intensive maceration in a drum-shaped fermenter for one week. This releases the mature polyphenols from the berry skin. This method makes tannin-rich varieties such as Sangiovese appear elegant. The wines are then aged in small wooden barrels.
Giorgio Rivetti - the soul and motor of the company - is one of the light figures of the Italian wine industry with his vineyard kingdom comprising four wineries. The philosophy of the dynamic, farsighted winemaker, who works with clear ideas, is to cultivate exclusively local varieties and not to follow a global trend that favours French grape varieties. The Rivetti brothers accept atypically low yields. SUPERIORE.DE
"After having worked exclusively with Moscato, Nebbiolo and Barbera in their previous lives, the Rivetti probably did not find it easy to switch to Sangiovese. But they despair and do not fail. On the contrary, what they gain from their vineyards is now quite something to be proud of."Gambero Rosso
