• "Ser Lapo" Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2016

“Ser Lapo” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2016

With this exceptional Chianti Classico Riserva the Mazzei family celebrates their famous ancestor Ser Lapo, in whose writings the name "Chianti" is mentioned for the first time. The upper part of the label shows a faithful reproduction of one of his writings (from the year 1398) with a beautiful calligraphy. "Don't worry about the cost of this wine, although it was expensive: its quality will make up for it."

Opened with classic aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and fine violet. Warm and full on the palate, firm core of dark sweet fruits, smooth tannins, rich and with elegant acidity. Spicy and long, with an unmistakable appetising aftertaste of sage and mint. SUPERIORE.DE

"As charming as the Gran Selezione is, the Ser Lapo is of a pithy and compact construction, precise and demanding, with a stony note and a lot of spice, dominated by the cherry aromas and accompanied by notes of wood right up to the finish. Weinwisser

"Sparkling, bright ruby red with opaque rim. Compact and red berry nose underlined with light spicy notes, deep plum. Smooth in the attack and course with juicy tannin, balanced body and fruity core, long and salty, exciting, powerful in the final". Falstaff

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo is bold, rich and full of energy. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spice all run through the 2016. Bright acids keep the flavors bright, with all of the juiciness that is such a Fonterutoli signature very much front and center." Vinous

"Here's a terrific wine, at a reasonable price point, that gives you an authentic albeit contemporary taste of Tuscany. The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Ser Lapo reflects the best qualities of this classic vintage with sharp lines, good freshness and delineated contours. The wine shows a tight core of black fruit surrounded by softer layers of spice and smoke at the edges." Robert Parker

"Bright aromas of sliced cherries and hints of strawberries with some orange peel. Full body and super fine and ripe tannins. They melt into the wine. Delicate yet energetic. Crisp finish." James Suckling

"A vibrant yet brooding red, with bracing acidity driving the cherry, currant, iron, tobacco and almond flavors. Complex and intense, this needs a few years to absorb the tannins. Delivers fine presence and length." Wine Spectator

    • Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2015 (BIO)

Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2015 (BIO)

A strong ruby red, as expected from a good traditional and organically produced wine. A wonderful, elegant and intense scent spectrum between sour cherry and nutmeg. On the palate well balanced and with a lot of youthful freshness in the long lasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Hearty and lively fruit of cherries and red currants, everything is finely tuned, looks medium-weight in comparison, but there is enormous elegance and depth through the inner tension, impressive style and quite long. Weinwisser

"Just mid ruby. Subtle, savoury nose with hints of sour cherry. Elegant and lithe with fine, long tannins and fresh, sour-cherry finish." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva is a carefully measured wine that offers intensity versus grace and concentration versus finesse. This warm vintage brings forward dark fruit aromas with ripe cherry and blackberry. You also get the fresh acidity and crispness that is so specific to Gaiole in Chianti. The finish is velvety and mildly textured, and you do get that characteristic blast of fresh acidity on the finish." Robert Parker

"Coltibuono's vineyards are in the southern reaches of the Gaiole commune, planted with a massal selection from the estate's oldest vines. Only indigenous grapes - Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino - are blended with Sangiovese in this traditionally crafted Riserva. It's an elegant, unpretentious wine made with a gentle touch. The tannins are finely sculpted around tangy red currant and pomegranate, with accents of orange pekoe tea-leaf, garden herbs and forest floor throughout. This is light on its feet, mellow and accessible now." Decanter

"Pure and energizing, with berry, cherry, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors allied to a racy profile. Tense and resonant on the lingering finish, showing fine balance and persistence." Wine Spectator

    • "Castello Fonterutoli" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016

“Castello Fonterutoli” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016

Rich colour, clear scent of blackberries and cherries, some nougat, warm and inviting. With its sweet tannin and an excellent alcohol component, the intense, concentrated taste ensnares the senses. The long final is full of elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

"Juicy is the keyword for this Gran Selezione; in addition, it offers animating fruit and sweet density; a wine full of melt and power; quite hearty and also in the finish again: juicy! Weinwisser

"Restrained berry aromas, notes of pepper and spices; elegant structure with buxom tannins, the fresh acidity optimally integrated, excellent and promising course with cut and character. Very nice." Vinum

"Bright ruby with a fine violet hue. Clear and intense nose with rich notes of ripe cherries, pomegranate and dried orange peel. Juicy and intense on the palate, shows beautiful ripe, present fruit, after cherries and blackberries, polished tannin, interwoven with sweet enamel." Falstaff

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is one of the most expressive wines I have tasted from the estate. Beautifully perfumed, layered and nuanced, the 2016 has so much to offer. Lavender, spice, menthol, ripe red/purplish fruit and rose petal grace this translucent, beautifully detailed Chianti Classico. The 2016 is a jewel of a wine." Vinous

"Dense and powerful 2016 Chianti Classico with a deep and rich palate of fruit that is tight and compact. Lots of polished tannins to frame the wine. Full-bodied. The spice, bark, and dried-mushroom character highlights the ripe and luscious fruit." James Suckling

"The Mazzei family was one of the first and most enthusiastic advocates of the Gran Selezione movement. Their 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello Fonterutoli is a crowning achievement for this storied Chianti Classico winery. From an iconic vintage, this blend of 92% Sangiovese and 8% Malvasia Nera, shows sharp and delineated lines. Black fruit, plum and cherry intermingle with spice, tobacco and tilled earth. The wine shows zest and energy at its core." Robert Parker

    • "Schweizer" Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2016

“Schweizer” Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2016

A masterpiece is the strong ruby red Pinot Nero Schweizer. Its bouquet is large, complex and reminds of very ripe small forest berries. These special aromas can also be found in the mouth, together with an inviting and slightly tannic body, which gives the wine a long life. SUPERIORE.DE

"The selection "Pinot Nero Schweizer" is bottled only in the best years. Ripe, candied dark cherry with delicate floral and red berry notes. Juicy, broad palate, filling the mouth, but with delicate and svelte nuances, only in the final the tannin is slightly drying out and (still) porous." Weinwisser

"Intense, rich ruby red. In the nose noble notes of Amarena cherries, ripe strawberries and dark chocolate. Balanced and harmonious on the palate, deep wine with elegant acid nerve, bitter orange, fine, robust tannin, still a little young." Falstaff

"A pretty red with dried-strawberry and lemon-rind aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fine tannins and a clean finish." James Suckling

"Topped with a screwcap, the 2016 Alto Adige Pinot Nero Schweizer offers earthy tones on the back of redcurrant, cherry, wild roses and grilled herbs. This wine always offers above-average precision and focus, but this beautiful vintage takes it all to the next level. The wine is mild and silky in terms of mouthfeel, and the persistence is long and fresh." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Ravera" Riserva DOCG 2012

      Barolo “Ravera” Riserva DOCG 2012

Brilliant ruby red, in the nose a fully ripe berry bouquet with warm spice, mushroom and cocoa notes. Rich and juicy on the palate with sweet oak wood and lush fruit. Ravera Riserva 2012 culminates in a firm finish, in which the ripe fruit and polished tannins are once again evident. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby red. Intense, very typical Nebbiolo scent of the fine kind, fragrant cherry shades, especially wild cherry, in addition sweet tobacco, earthy notes, rose petals and liquorice. Very elegant palate, incredibly juicy with sweet spices and dried red berries. Despite its strength, it shows a certain refinement with silky tannins, piquant acidity and delicate astringency, which gives the wine a peppery freshness and animation. A racy ravera!" Weinwisser

"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Perfumed cherry and sweet raspberry with malty notes ad wet, dark earth and spice - perhaps this has seen a little new oak? full sour cherry palate completely filling out the palate, but still a little embryonic. Lots of polished coating tannins framing the ripe, supple fruit. Can already be approached, but a steak should be taken into account. Jancis Robinson

"Aromas of fresh mushrooms, blueberries and plums with orange peel follow through to a full body with layers of ripe tannins and fruit A long and flavorful finish. Loads going on here still. Just starting to come around." James Suckling

    • "Mason di Mason" Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2016 (BIO)

“Mason di Mason” Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2016 (BIO)

"The best of the good - you don't drink this wine every day. It needs attention, time to mature and likes to play the leading role: as the crowning glory of a banquet or even as a proud solitaire." Michael Count Goëss-Enzenberg, Manincor Winery

Noble and pure, the Mason di Mason Pinot Nero shines with aromas of raspberry, rose blossom, undergrowth and sweet spices. Elegant and seamlessly round on the palate with incredible balance, complex and detailed. A Knockout Pinot Noir! SUPERIORE.DE

"Famous plot. The vines stand on a south-facing plateau at 400 to 450 m above sea level with cooling winds. A selection of the best barriques. The 2016 is even a bit more precise and powerful than the 2015, showing expressive fruit, floral notes (violets) and plums. In the mouth again full and melting Pinot fruit of the darker kind, balanced, with good energy and freshness. Weinwisser

"Bright, intense ruby with brightening rim. Intense and clear nose, pronounced notes of juicy, ripe cherries, some cranberries, in the background beeswax. On the palate polished and juicy, crisp, present fruit, then unfolds with lots of fine-meshed tannin, in the final fine melting." Falstaff

"Dried cranberries, petrichor, tart cherries and darker plums all spring into action. The palate is very clear-cut and serious with electric acidity and finely molded tannins. Full-bodied, subtle and polished. Effortless finesse in motion." James Suckling

"Released one year later (as if it were a Riserva), the 2016 Alto Adige Pinot Nero Mason di Mason delivers a bright, mid-weight approach with buoyant aromas of wild berry, candied orange peel, honey-coated almond and fragrant essence of violets. This vintage shows a cheerful approach that is brimming with electric energy, attractive freshness and purity." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Luigi Baudana" DOCG 2013

      Barolo “Luigi Baudana” DOCG 2013

Fresh, sparkling ruby garnet. Opened with notes of pickled anchovies, then leather and dark forest raspberry. On the palate a lot of dense, substantial tannin, rapidly drags through, fine fruit, in the finale firm pressure. Put it away for a few more years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Shiny, medium ruby. In mouth and nose it looks strict and quite closed. Only with air does a scent of red berries and floral hints develop. Classic tannin structure on the palate, combined with a slowly intensifying, very pure fruit. "Very vital, much inner tension and minerality. Weinwisser

"The 2013 Barolo Baudana opens with striking, beguiling aromatics. Deep, pliant and sensual on the palate, the 2013 exudes fruit intensity to the point the tannins are nearly buried. Intense savory and mineral notes provide an underpinning of virile intensity that builds into the super-expressive finish." Antonio Galloni

"Seems open and forthcoming for the cherry, black currant and floral aromas and flavors, but this red has some punch too. The dense tannins provide support, while tobacco, green olive and mineral notes add depth. Terrific length." Wine Spectator

Castel Campan - elegant cuvée of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the oldest vines of the estate, where clay and limestone gravel characterise the terroir. Deep garnet-purple, smelling of black currant, dark plum and earth, with a hint of pencil lead and chocolate. Medium weight on the palate, well structured, with firm tannins and lively acidity. Long and polished. SUPERIORE.DE

"This Bordeaux blend from this biodynamic showpiece is made up of 70% Cabernet Franc and 30% Merlot. Dark cherry fruit with hints of mint chocolate, ink, blueberry juice, juniper, nice coolness with spicy herbal notes. Dense and compact on the palate with a juicy and spicy fullness with certain sweetness, balsamic notes and very youthful, now nice to drink". Weinwisser

"Shiny ruby with a slight violet tint. Very present nose with notes of cardamom and bay leaf, some tobacco, then a lot of currants. On the palate a lot of juicy fruit, then opens up with fine-meshed, dense tannin, builds a wide arc, in the final fine melting. Falstaff

“Valmaggiore” Nebbiolo d’Alba DOC 2014 · MAGNUM in OWC

The grapes for Nebbiolo Valmaggiore come from the depths of the Roero and offer an elegant interplay between the scent of strawberries and currants and a swelling tannin. Fine fruit and mint aromas in the aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant bright, mature colour with a delicate brick red. Delicate, red berry fruit in the fragrance, elegantly and finesse richly arranged, with pinot-like presence, good depth and seductive, sweet top note, floral and multi-layered. Wide, open attack in the mouth with fine-grained mature tannins and inviting play of delicate acidity and gently sublime fruit. The deeply swinging sweetness is paired with the tannins, which are still perceptibly gripping, to form a long, chambolle-like nebbiolo in the finish." Weinwisser

"The 2014 Nebbiolo d'Alba Valmaggiore is quite pretty. Sweet floral aromatics meld into tobacco, dried cherry, licorice, mint and pine in a finely-knit, sensual wine that captures the essence of this well-known Roero site. Readers who enjoy wines with aromatic development may want to cellar the 2014 for at least a few years. Today, the natural brightness of the vintage and the primary fruit of Nebbiolo are very much front and center." Antonio Galloni

"Powerful, sparkling ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Intense nose, with notes of liquorice and tobacco, orange peel, plums and raspberry. Velvety and full at the same time on the palate, shows much ripened berry fruit, especially raspberry, opens with very smooth and dense tannin, very long reverberation". Falstaff

"Pressed iris, red-skinned berry, underbrush and a whiff of rosemary lead the nose on this 100% Sangiovese. The supple, juicy palate delivers black cherry, white pepper, leather and star anise alongside velvety, polished tannins. It's already accessible but will also age well for the next several years or more." Wine Enthusiast

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2010

Complex scent of blackberries and spice notes, with hints of vegetabile. Dense taste with highly elegant tannins and a never-ending reverberation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright color for Valdicava. Sweet, delicate and fine in fragrance, very restrained fruit, harmonious and delicate, not as opulent as expected. Soft, ripe fruit in the mouth with a nutty note of fine wood aging, good, firm type. Completely rounded and full-bodied with a fine body and a well-fanned tannin presence."Weinwisser

"The gamy 2010 Brunello di Montalcino does a great job of presenting intensity and elegance all in the same delicious package. That's not easy to do and the excellent 2010 fruit plays a big role in achieving this goal. The wine offers a long succession of aromas that span from ripe fruit, to smoked meat, to grilled herb and soft spice. Delicate tones of licorice, cola and anise seed add life and energy. The list goes on. The wine's mouthfeel is best characterized by softness and structure, a two-fold approach that gives high hopes for the long aging potential of this wine. Valdicava's Brunello will appeal to those who love earthy and leathery notes in their Brunello."Robert Parker

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is one of the very best wines I have tasted here in recent years. Dark red cherries, mint, game, smoke, tobacco and licorice are all deeply expressive in a mid-weight, very classic feeling Brunello long on class and personality. Big yet silky tannins frame the dramatic, intense finish."Antonio Galloni

"Effusive aromas of incense, green olive, sweet strawberry and cherry, licorice and leather mark this structured version. The tannins are on the beefy side, but this finishes long, with enough fruit and spice for balance."Wine Spectator

"Absolutely stunning aromas of nectarine, orange peel, sweet black cherry, plums and flowers. Licorice and mushroom It's full body, with layers of ultra-fine tannins and hints of tangy acidity. Such beautiful length and beauty to this wine. It's powerful and structured yet shows a gorgeous finesse and length. Truly wondrous. So long and refined. The texture is phenomenal."James Suckling

    • Barolo "Le Vigne" DOCG 2012

      Barolo “Le Vigne” DOCG 2012

Le Vigne is a splendid Barolo of Sandrone. The bouquet opens wide with aromas of fresh red fruits and a delicate spicy note. On the palate very intense, remarkably elegant, fine-grained tannins, extremely clear, structured and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense ruby with a garnet edge. Clear and intense nose, after ripe cherries, fine blackberry, some orange compote. Velvety and round in the base and course, builds up in many layers, much fine-meshed tannin, very polished, long reverberation, a great pleasure! Falstaff

"Delicate, mature color, little orange rim. Delicate and delicate also in the fragrance, with seductive sweetness and fine wood nuances as well as graphite; deep herb spice with fine, ripe fruit. Very broad in the mouth, multi-layered and balanced, very melty in the base, with noble tannins. On the other hand, it is Burgundian and delicate, with a fine-grained tannin structure, long and red berry clear in the aftertaste." Weinwisser

"Purity of fruit and balance here is very impressive. Firm and very silky tannins with a long, long finish that gives the wine amazing depth and intensity. Love the spicy and dense fruit character at the end of the palate." James Suckling

"A hint of oak lends this a spicy component, along with cherry, licorice and tar flavors. Racy and bright, with fine intensity and a long, tightly wound finish that seems to go on forever. Shows beautiful purity and class." Wine Spectator

"The Luciano Sandrone 2012 Barolo le Vigne shows the trademark ripeness that I so often identify in this historic product. The bouquet is round and plush with thick layers of dark cherry marmalade, blackberry preserves and dark currant. Beyond those apparent fruit aromas, Le Vigne offers dark spice and licorice with a beautiful menthol signature on the finish. The wine's natural structure is padded by soft tannins and lush fruit consistency." Robert Parker
