• "Somereto" Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC 2019

“Somereto” Chardonnay Alto Adige DOC 2019

The straw yellow Somereto has a fruity and intense scent of ripe banana and other tropical fruits. On the palate it is voluminous and very persistent with a pleasant acidity. A modern cosmopolitan with beautiful power. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Alto Adige Chardonnay Somereto is a true charmer. The wine delivers some of the mild creaminess and textural smoothness that comes naturally to Chardonnay (outside any oak regime), and that pretty, mid-weight fruitiness is especially compelling in this vintage. Somereto is refreshingly crisp, mineral driven and fruity. Simple winemaking is completed in stainless steel with a brief six months of lees contact. Indeed, this is a beautifully naked expression of the grape, from calcareous, reddish clay soils and a cool climate at 260 to 380 meters above sea level. The finish is citrusy, acidic and fresh. You get tremendous value here." Robert Parker

"A fruity, straight-up chardonnay with sliced cooked apples, burnt lemon sand hints of pie crust on the nose and palate. Medium to full body. Some smokiness on the finish." James Suckling

“Finado” Pinot Bianco Alto Adige DOC 2019

Classic Pinot Blanc with the scent of ripe apples and pears. Elegant, balanced, harmonious taste. Finado is not a bit playful or even simply knitted, but looks very exquisite. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Finado opens to a luminous, light straw color that reflects the ambient light. This vintage shows zesty and very balanced results with pear, Golden Delicious apple, crushed limestone and a touch of spicy saffron. These aromas are characteristic of dolomitic calcareous soils. Winemaking is simple in stainless steel, with a brief sur lie aging of six months. The wine sports a crisp, lean-bodied mouthfeel, but there is enough acidity and mineral-driven linearity to drive the wine long over the palate." Robert Parker

    About the winemakersCantina AndrianTrentino-South Tyrol
    Cantina Andrian

In 2008, a new era began for Andrian Winery. From an administrative point of view, it has since been part of the Terlan winery, but the Andrian brand and its wines are now better known and more independent than ever. At the end of the 19th century, the winegrowers of the dreamy village of Andrian, situated on the right bank of the Adige River at an altitude of 285 metres, joined forces to form the first cooperative winery in South Tyrol. With great diligence and intuition, the 90 members constantly work on a wine quality that can survive in modern times. After the merger with the Cantina Terlano on the left bank of the Adige River, the profile of the cooperative was sharpened. The sales regions were considerably expanded. Above all in Italy and the USA, the level of awareness of the Andrian winery, which has long been popular mainly in Germany, has risen significantly.

The vines, most of which face east and south, grow on clayey limestone soils interspersed with angular white dolomite rock. The loose composition of the substrate ensures a balanced water balance, good ventilation and deep roots. The climate in the middle Adige valley is Mediterranean. The vines enjoy many hours of sunshine. At an altitude of 260 to 340 metres, on the light eastern slopes, the sun spoils mainly late ripening grape varieties.

After the alliance with Terlan, the second oldest winery in South Tyrol, the number of Andrian wines was reduced. The drops of the house are converted into two lines depending on the grape material and processing method. The classic selection of fourteen individual DOC wines with a terroir emphasis is prominently complemented by four selection wines that are true to the variety and come from older vines whose yields are kept extremely low. The selections, which mature in the extended cellar partly in small oak barrels, partly in stainless steel, captivate by a balanced acidity, powerful elegance, freshness and complexity. Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Lagrein and Pinot Blanc are the most strongly represented vines in the portfolio, with roughly equal proportions.

According to the management, white wines account for 64 percent and red wines for 31 percent of the total production of the restructured Andrian winery. In the meantime, the cooperative, which also has many years of expertise in red wines, has its first Pinot Noir in its range. SUPERIORE.DE

"The leap in quality is remarkable and the wines are really impressive. A classic is the Lagrein Tor di Lupo, which was one of the country's first premium lagrein at the end of the 1980s. The Andrian sites are obviously also very suitable for Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer. A novelty is the Pinot Noir Anrar, which is only available in very limited quantities."Falstaff
