Pinot Nero Valle d’Aosta DOP 2020
Medium ruby, intensely smoky spice on the nose, delicate caramel, light orange note. Elegant texture on the palate, characterised by a fresh breed, sour cherries and red berries in the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"This red evokes juicy marasca cherry flavor, shaded by smoke and spice. Nimble and vibrant, with a silky texture and lingering, stony finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2020 Pinot Nero is such a pretty and finessed varietal expression that mixes alpine herbs with wild strawberries and crushed rocks. It’s elegant with silky textures that usher in masses of lavender-tinged black cherries and spices, as juicy acidity maintains fantastic balance. The 2020 leaves a coating of fruit concentration along with sweet tannins that add a gentle grip, promising a steady evolution. That said, there is no harm in drinking this today." Vinous

“La Tour” Syrah Valle d’Aosta DOP 2018
On the nose, ripe dark fruits, sweet spices and toasted oak. On the full palate, the character, terroir and elegance of the Les Cretes style are on full display, especially in the refined way tannins and fruit form a symbiosis. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Syrah Las Tour really holds your attention firm with its dark and spicy bouquet, as hints of clove and smoke give way to red currants and dusty rose. Its silky textures coast along a contrasting core of saline-minerals, leaving pepper-tinged wild berries and supple tannins in their wake. While lightly-structured, there’s already so much pleasure to be found here, as the 2019 fades with nuances of bitter blackberry." Vinous

The grapes for this fresh and very complex Pinot Grigio come from a single vineyard at an altitude of approx. 700m with a western exposure; only 3,200 bottles are bottled each year. Fumin Valle d’Aosta DOP 2019
Fumin with a great aroma of red fruits, black pepper and tobacco, dark fruity on the palate, very well structured and with a persistent balsamic finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Fumin embodies the soul of alpine wine, with a peppery array of sage, rosemary and mint giving way to rose petals and hints of camphor. It’s finessed yet full of life, cascading citrus-tinged red berries across a core of minerals and vibrant acidity. The 2019 finishes remarkably clean yet perfumed, with a lingering tension of sour berries. What a darling, but it will be best enjoyed served alongside a meal." Vinous

“Fleur Vigna Devin Ros” Petite Arvine Valle d’Aosta DOP 2018
The second white top wine of the family farm and single-varietal Petite Arvine: Bright light yellow with an elegant, floral-mineral bouquet and notes of ripe apples and apricots. Clear, balanced taste, refined body and harmonious finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw-yellow. Captivating aromas of lemon drop, yellow apple, balsamic oils, honeysuckle and anise. The palate offers lovely purity of fruit and a pliant texture, with luscious flavors of ripe orchard fruit and minty herbs. Nicely floral on the long finish. The high acidity showcases why Les Cretes decided to try their hand at making a brand-new sparkling wine with the Petite Arvine grape. This wine is made from 12-year-old vines planted near Arnad-Montjovet and is aged in stainless steel only." Vinous
"Dried flowers, lemon curd, peaches and toasted almonds on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with crisp acidity. Concentrated with creamy layers of ripe fruit and a gently saline finish." James Suckling
"This Petite Arvine is light and crisp, but it also delivers a glossy or viscous side with some of the thickness and flavors of well-ripened grape skins. The bouquet opens to orchard fruit and nectarine, and there is a musky quality that adds an extra layer of shading or depth. This white would do well with lobster or shellfish." Robert Parker

Viticulture at 600 to 1,300 metres above sea level, at the foot of the Alps.
The smallest and most mountainous Italian region, with around 450 hectares of vineyards, was created in 1986 and winds horseshoe-shaped around the small alpine town of Aosta on the border with France and Switzerland, overlooked by the mighty St. Gotthard. Cold and snowy winters as well as warm summers with cold nights create mineral, delicate wines in the Aosta Valley.
The vineyards are 90 kilometres long and nestle close to the border with Piedmont, the gorge through which the small river Dora Baltea flows. The highest vineyards are in Morgex and La Salle. Winegrowing in the Aosta Valley was practised long before the turn of time by the indigenous people of the Salassi. Later, the Romans controlled the Alpine passes and planted vineyards. They were followed by the Catholic monks of the Benedictines and Cistercians. They worked hard to drive terraces into the rocky slopes. From the ninth century onwards, the Aosta Valley came under French influence again and again. The bilingual labelling on the bottles of the wines produced there also dates from this period. At the end of the 19th century, the vineyards still had an area of 3,000 hectares. Meanwhile, great efforts are being made to return to these old times.
4,000 winegrowers. 40 communities. 450 acres. Over 20 autochthonous grape varieties.
The Aosta Valley's special feature is the variety of autochthonous, rare grape varieties such as Blanc de Morgex, Freisa, Fumin, Malvoisie de Nus, Moscato di Chambave, Neyret, Petite Arvine, Petit Rouge and Vien de Nus. Quite a few of them are also spread across the border in the Swiss canton of Valais. Even in the fragrance and taste of the wines, some similarities can be seen between the two countries. Varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Müller-Thurgau, Nebbiolo and Syrah can also be found in the Aosta Valley. However, in homeopathic quantities. Total production in the Valle d’Aosta is so small with 2.7 million litres, almost everything from the only DOC, that the wines are almost only known in the region itself. At some international events, however, they have attracted a lot of attention in recent years.
Behind the name Valle d'Aosta (Vallée d'Aoste), there is a regional DOC covering the entire region, with around 40 municipalities and around 4,000 winegrowers. More than two dozen types of wine from twenty-two vine varieties are authorised in this area.
Main white wine grape varieties
- Chardonnay
- Gewurztraminer

The DOC is divided into three large cultivation zones, which differ from each other in their soil composition and altitude. If a grape variety is indicated on the bottle label, at least 90 per cent of the wine must have been made from this grape. If, on the other hand, the label contains information such as "Bianco/Blanc", "Rosso/Rouge" or "Rosato/Rosé" all vine varieties authorised in the regional DOC may have been used in any blend.
