“Pergolaia” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
Pergolaia is mainly Sangiovese with smaller portions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wine opens with a medium-bodied attack and a bright bouquet characterised by notes of cherry, wild plum, ploughed earth and pressed blue flowers. Very Mediterranean in style and with a strong personality, this red coats the palate with delicate, silky intensity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium ruby red with a slightly lightening rim. In the nose restrained at the beginning, then tones of ripe cherry, wild strawberry and currant, in the aftertaste hints of violets, seems slightly icy. Elegant on the palate with supple tannin, multi-layered and with a long and exciting finish." Falstaff
"Sangiovese takes the lead in this blend with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, giving it nerve and deep cherry flavours, while the French additions absorb the touch of oak. The result is velvety, finely textured and long. You can drink this now and for up to six years while you wait for the 'grand vin' 2019 to come round. Sheer class and with bags of Italian flair." Jancis Robinson
"A lush, opulent red, featuring blackberry, blueberry, plum, violet and black pepper flavors. Dense, with well-wrought tannins that add support and bolster the lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"Black olives, iodine, salted plums and blackberries here. It’s medium-bodied with firm, creamy tannins. Lovely creaminess, with fresh, savory and saline character." James Suckling
"The bouquet opens to red and purple fruits with wild plum, dried cherry, potting soil and pressed rose. Those floral tones and mild herbal signatures are what give this wine its very Mediterranean, easy-drinking personality." Wine Advocate

“Aria di Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
Aria di Caiarossa is a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Alicante, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon - in decreasing order. At this young stage, you taste the purity of the primary aromas with wild cherry and raspberry, underpinned by dark spice and a hint of crushed mineral. These elegant mineral notes are found throughout the Caiarossa portfolio. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, impenetrable ruby red with a slightly lightening rim. Multi-layered and complex nose of ripe wild berries and plum, reverberating with hints of verbena, bitter chocolate and wet leather. On the palate, full-bodied and powerful, with a fine tannin structure, spicy and with a long-lasting final." Falstaff
"Impenetrable dark ruby. Lifted, deep cassis nose and fresh and juicy on the palate with blackberry, cherry and cassis fruit and crunchy tannins. Sensationally balanced and irresistible." Jancis Robinson
"The biodynamic and certified organic Caiarossa 2019 Aria di Caiarossa is a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Alicante, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. You feel the concentration and richness of those grapes, especially the softness of the Merlot and the Syrah, and the firm structure of the two Cabernets. The bouquet reveals black and purple fruits with some background leather and spice. This is a fun and accessible Tuscan red blend." Wine Advocate
"A juicy and savory red with dark-berry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Full-bodied with tight, chewy tannins that give the wine length and focus. Needs time to soften." James Suckling

“Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2010
The world-famous Caiarossa is an extremely exciting blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the rich and dark fruit flavours of the Cabernet grapes taking centre stage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright deep ruby. Enticing aromas of dark red cherry, sweet pipe tobacco, aromatic spices and mocha, plus a strong note of vanilla. Rich and dense on the palate, with rich, ripe red cherry and smoky herb flavors supported by oak-driven tannins on the smooth, long finish. I’m a big fan of this estate’s wines, which offer a Bordeaux touch to their Tuscan power and flesh (the proprietor also owns Chateau Giscours and du Tertre in Margaux)." Vinous
"An IGT Toscana blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Alicante, the 2010 Caiarossa is a tremendous wine. The bouquet is rich and compelling with deep layers of dark fruit, spice and chocolate. Given the complexity of the blend, it's hard to identify any single variety although the softness of Merlot and the structure of the two Cabernet grapes definitely comes through in the mouth." Wine Advocate
"A full-bodied red with so much ripe berry and plum fruit that it verges on jammy, yet it turns out velvety and delicious. Will improve with age." James Suckling

"The bouquet explodes from the glass with gorgeous intensity. This is a large-scale wine with broad shoulders to support the dense concentration and richness at the core. The finish is super smooth and soft. It ages in barriques and tonneaux." Wine Advocate
"Hitting a sweet spot now, this red exhibits cherry, leather and spice flavors aligned to a dense profile. Fresh and focused, with fine length but showing some of the vintage's rusticity. Think grilled beef, lamb or game." Wine Spectator
"Complex aromas of blueberries and spices such as nutmeg and sage. Full body, round and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Tight and structured. Pretty tension. Awesome blend of seven grape types from Merlot to Alicante." James Suckling

“Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 (BIO)
The world-famous Caiarossa is an extremely exciting blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the rich and dark fruit flavours of the Cabernet grapes taking centre stage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Powerful ruby with a fine violet shimmer. Opens with emphatic earthy notes, some red beet, then elderberries and mulberries. Emphasises spicy components on the nose, opens with grippy, pithy tannin, dark berry fruit and tobacco, still a little drying on the final." Falstaff
"Intense fruit flavors of blackberry, black currant, black cherry and spicy oak are the hallmarks of this red, which is balanced and well-integrated, fresh and long, but just needs two to three years to unwind." Wine Spectator
"The Caiarossa 2018 Caiarossa offers great insight into the forward-looking trajectory and the solid quality record of this gem of an estate on the Tuscan Coast. This is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the saturated and dark fruit aromas of the Cabernet grapes in pole position. A deep core of black fruit is backed by exotic spice, tar and sweet licorice at the back. The finest work here is to the tannins, which remain very smooth and taut, giving the wine an elegant but determined backbone." Wine Advocate
"This is extremely perfumed with violets, sage, lavender, currants and berries. Fresh and vivid. Medium-to full-bodied with super refined tannins and fruit. So subtle and refined. This is really long and gorgeous. Goes on for minutes. A change in style from past vintages and I like it." James Suckling

“Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
The world-famous Caiarossa is an extremely exciting blend of the varieties Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante, with the rich and dark fruit aromas of the Cabernet grapes in the foreground. On the nose, a beautiful first wave of dark fruits that never seem too ripe, which greatly benefits the wine's elegance. In the drink very balanced and focused with blackberries, cassis and slight hints of salty or rusty minerals. Caiarossa shows a good degree of elegance, not least because of its fine and taut tannins, and despite its density and complexity, it never seems opulent or even overloaded. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Opens with notes of cold smoke, slightly metallic components, behind that blueberries and cranberries, some pepper. Plucky, sturdy tannin, opens in many layers, fine liquorice notes in the final." Falstaff
"Everything about this wine is seamless. It cannot shake off its French mould, but this goes further than just imitation. Gorgeous nose of oak, black fruit and cassis building a real unity. Velvet-like, cool and supple on the palate and effortlessly elegant while generous too. Stony, mineral fruit on the finish. This vintage comes close to the most prestigious of Bolgheri at a far more advantageous price tag. Caiarossa shines a light on the unjustly unknown terroir of Riparbella. Keep this at least for another year for it to show its potential." Jancis Robinson
"Richly scented plums and black cherries on the nose. Weighty and full in the mouth but smooth and soft, the fine tannins well integrated and supporting the bright strawberry, creamy red cherry and plum fruit flavours. Tannins give a chalky texture to the palate, gently supporting the fruit which has a subtle toasted spice to the finish. I love the acidity, the intensity of the sweet yet full fruit at the beginning, a smoky spiced element to the mid palate and a mineral tinged - wet stone, saline finish. Still feels very youthful." Decanter
"The Caiarossa 2019 is a complex blend featuring Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante from vineyard sites across this beautiful property in the high hills off the Tuscan coast. This organic and biodynamic wine is full and generous to the palate, yet it never feels heavy or too extracted. The wine is balanced and fresh with thick layers of dark fruit, crushed stone, tobacco and exotic spice." Wine Advocate
"This is an intense, full-bodied yet very well-balanced and polished red with velvety, firm and caressing tannins. Ripe black plums, blueberries, chocolate, mocha, sweet spice and dried lavender. Some oyster shells, too. Layered and full of character. Creamy at the end from the polished tannins." James Suckling

“Caiarossa” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020 (BIO)
The world-famous Caiarossa is an extremely exciting blend of the Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante varieties, with the rich, dark fruit flavours of the Cabernet grapes taking centre stage. On the nose, a beautiful first wave of dark fruits that never appear too ripe, which greatly benefits the elegance of the wine. The palate is very balanced and focussed with blackberries, cassis and slight hints of salty or rusty minerals. Caiarossa displays a good degree of elegance, not least due to its fine and taut tannins, and despite its density and complexity never comes across as opulent or even overloaded. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, rich colour. Sweet, intense and savoury, the Caiarossa 2020 has a deep and generous aroma, with lots of Cabernet character and a little Syrah fragrance. Rich, sweet, raisiny style. Melting, round and velvety in the mouth, its dense tannins remain present for a long time, as it does not have the aromatic richness of the past two years. It seems a little hollow in the centre, yet it has a lovely texture on the tongue, is long and spicy, racy and has lively acidity. Due to its great diversity of grape varieties, it has an extraordinary complexity, yet it is somewhat less rich and sweet than expected. Still has room for improvement!" Weinwisser
"Dark ruby red colour with fine violet reflections. Fine spice on the nose, cheese rind, cassis, blackberry, some mint, plus fine earthy tones and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate with a creamy entry and progression, dense and tightly meshed, shows juicy tannins, spans a wide arc, comes back again and again juicy and powerful, long." Falstaff
"Very dark, impenetrable purple red colour. Elevated nose of black forest fruits with a pinch of oak and a hint of damson plum. Supple black forest fruits and raspberries and just enough acidity to keep the overall tension. More medium-bodied than full-bodied. Long, fine-grained tannins that are a little bitter and noticeable on the finish, but this will improve with further bottle age." Jancis Robinson
"Offers a combination of blackcurrant, blackberry and clay flavours, with hints of iron and tobacco, supported by dense tannins that leave a burr on the finish." Wine Spectator
"On the nose, dark fruits and berries are balanced with the fresh lightness of white pepper, mint and eucalyptus. On the palate, notes of vanilla and dark chocolate emphasise the juicy breadth of the fruit, but a sharp, peppery finish provides a thought-provoking contrast and leads to a meditative finish." Wine Enthusiast
"The Caiarossa 2020 Caiarossa is one of the Italian wines closest to Bordeaux both in DNA (the estate is French-owned) and winemaking. This is a full-bodied red with a bold and very exuberant personality. There is balance and depth with plenty of purple and black fruits, spice and oak toast to add dimension and complexity." Wine Advocate
"Fragrant herbs and warm, sun-kissed black fruit on the nose - no wonder, as it was the warmest summer since 1800, but with plenty of rain in June and late August, which allowed the grapes to ripen well. It smells of baked blackcurrants and roses. It is supple and rich, generous and filling, with wonderfully plump but also quite defined tannins that give it structure and tension. The fruit is tangy and ripe, and the acidity creates a tension between sharpness and ripeness. The wine is round, direct and forward, it has energy and structure, and I love the freshness that lingers on the tongue. Well executed with plenty of perfume and a mineral, stony grip on the finish alongside dried herbs and liquorice spice. A delicious Tuscan wine with a French flair." Decanter
"Aromatic with dried cherries and plum skins as well as spiced chocolate, lilac, walnut shell and nutmeg. Also some wet stones. The palate is full, structured and broad with super-fine tannins. It is powerful but not heavy with freshness and crispness. It shows intensity and richness. Give it time." James Suckling
"The 2020 Caiarossa is the best wine I've tasted from this estate in some time, perhaps ever. Rich, deep and yet not at all heavy, the 2020 offers an exotic blend of dark cherry/plum fruit, mocha, liquorice, new leather and incense. All the elements are so beautifully balanced." Vinous

Biodynamic in the vineyard and Feng Shui in the wine cellar, this is the concept of Caiarossa, which has undoubtedly developed into one of the most fascinating wineries in Tuscany. It was founded in 1998 by a Belgian entrepreneur who wanted to fulfil his dream of producing wine close to nature. The stylish winery, built according to the discipline of Feng Shui, is located not far from the Tuscan coast in the picturesque Val di Cecina and is today considered a hotspot for first-class red wines.
Biodynamic viticulture has a very long tradition at Caiarossa, which is why chemical additives were dispensed with from the very beginning. When the winery was sold in 2004, this strict form of organic wine production was adopted by the new owners. Caiarossa thus became the property of the Dutch family Albada Jelgersma, who already own the two Bordeaux wine estates Château Giscours and Château du Tertre. Thanks to them, the French oenologist Dominique Genot also came to Caiarossa, where he has been demonstrating his great talent ever since.
The name of the estate comes from the dialect word for "ghiaia rossa" (red gravel) and refers to the soil structure found around the winery. The vineyard area of 31 hectares is planted with ten different grape varieties, including the local Sangiovese as well as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Alicante Bouschet. As in Bordeaux, the vineyards are divided into very small plots and the grapes are vinified separately according to variety and location.
There is no mistaking the French influence at Caiarossa, because compared to other wineries, a very clear principle is followed here: The distinctive wine style of the house finds its focus in an ecological, nature-oriented wine production that combines Italian temperament with French elegance in the glass. The undisputed protagonist of Caiarossa is the eponymous blend of seven to eight different grape varieties, depending on the vintage, which is fermented in traditional cement barrels and delights with deep, dark fruit aromas and perfectly integrated tannins.
So if you are looking for sustainably produced wines and do not want to forego excellent quality, unique enjoyment and great storage potential, you are certainly in good hands with this Tuscan prime example of biodynamic agriculture. SUPERIORE.DE
"Caiarossa offers a full range of fascinating wines from the Pisa area of coastal Tuscany. These wines are always a treat to taste and they remind us of the winemaking potential of this unknown area." Robert Parker
