    Silvio Jermann

    It is the story of a passion that came from far away to northeast Italy. It was 1881 when the founder Anton Jermann left the Austrian wine region of Burgenland and the vineyards of Slovenia behind to settle in Friuli Venezia Giulia and continue his work as a winemaker. In the 1970s Silvio Jermann made the winery, now 150 hectares in area and 30 kilometres from Udine in the heart of the Collio, one of the most important wine producers in Italy and the world, thanks to his genius and ingenuity.

    Since 2007, the traditional house, which has been enormously successful especially with white wines, has had a modern and environmentally friendly winery in Ruttars. There, technological progress is cleverly combined with traditional architecture. The new magnificent family seat was built for the production of the estate's flagships. These include Capo Martino, Dreams made exclusively from Chardonnay and, of course, Vintage Tunina - the fine wine that has perhaps contributed more than any other to the success of the Jermann winery. The administration is still located in the mother house in Villanova near Farra d'Isonzo, which continues to produce the base wines.

    The soil behind the new winery, which includes 20 hectares of vineyards, is light and fresh. Temperatures during the day are not too warm. Cool nights preserve the aromas and fragrances so that they can pass from the grape directly into the wine. In the cellar, large oak barrels made of the material used 50 years ago create a pleasant atmosphere. The well-balanced white wines produced there convince with a clarity and depth of aromas, a richness of mineral notes as well as with their enormous longevity and elegance.

    Silvio Jermann could have completely retired from the wine business due to his advanced age and left the tax entirely to his children. But he still attaches great importance to personally emphasizing the Austrian roots of his family. It is not uncommon for the owner of the estate's great love of his homeland to be read in German on the labels of his wines. (superiore.de)
