Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2024
Tenuta Campogiovanni is situated on the southern slope of Montalcino – —an aspect that gives the Sangiovese warmth, earlier ripening and a natural approachability that cooler sites do not offer. San Felice developed this site in the second half of the 1990s: six hectares of Sangiovese, planted specifically for the Rosso di Montalcino DOC, on medium-heavy silty-sandy soils over sandstone and calcareous marl, facing south to south-east at an altitude of 250 to 300 metres. 2024 began with a mild, dry winter and a spring with regular rainfall, which ensured good flowering. The very hot summer – — particularly August – slowed down ripening; the harvest did not begin until the second week of September. Autumn rain necessitated careful selection in the vineyard. The result: elegant aromas, well-integrated tannins, moderate alcohol and balanced acidity. A vintage characterised by freshness and early drinkability.

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino from San Felice shows rich black cherries and plums with sweet spices, cedar shavings and cool mint. The texture is silky, with a polished blend of red and black berries interspersed with savoury minerals. Medium-bodied and youthfully compact, it also shows a taste of what's to come as florals build over notes of liquorice and clove. A web of fine tannins envelop everything they touch with youthful composure as the wine tapers off with violet reflections. This is a very successful interpretation of the top 2019 vintage from southern Montalcino. SUPERIORE.DE

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2021
The southern quadrant of the Montalcino hill follows its own logic: more warmth, more sunshine, and a ripening process that is more consistent and complete than in cooler exposures. Tenuta Campogiovanni is situated precisely here – on medium-textured silt-sand soils over sandstone and limestone, on a site that gives Sangiovese Grosso reliability in poor years and depth in great years. 2021 was a great year – but it began with a shock. A mild, dry winter had brought forward budbreak; by the end of March, the best-exposed vineyards were already sprouting. Then came the April nights. Temperatures dropped below zero, and the early buds froze. Yields were significantly reduced. What followed was a rainy spring, which helped the vines survive a long and very hot summer. The grapes that survived concentrated what they had. Harvest took place from the third week of September into October.

In the southern slope of the rock on which the famous, bizarre mountain town of Montalcino sits, some of the best sites for the coveted top wine of Tuscany, the Brunello di Montalcino, are located. The top locations of the Campogiovanni estate are also located here. It was acquired by the Agricola San Felice in 1984, when Brunello had not yet begun its great triumphal march. The land of Campogiovanni covers a total area of over 65 hectares. Of the 23 hectares of vineyards, 14 hectares are dedicated to Brunello and nine to Rosso di Montalcino. Only the local Sangiovese grosso variety is cultivated in the vineyards.
Over the centuries, a layer of silt, clay, loam and sand has developed on the calcareous rocks. These soils are the basis for deep-rooted vines, here exclusively Sangiovese grosso, as this Sangiovese clone is actually called, even if in Montalcino everyone only says Brunello grape. The Mediterranean climate with a rising, salty breeze from the Mediterranean Sea ensures good ventilation of the vineyards. Good average rainfall and the southern orientation of the vine lines allow the grapes to ripen relatively early. In the cellar there are stainless steel fermentation stands in which the mash can develop for about three weeks. The wines are then allowed to mature in French tonneaux and large Slavonic oak barrels. The results are Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino, which have received many international awards.
In addition to vineyards, Campogiovanni uses around 2,000 olive trees for the production of virgin olive oil. SUPERIORE.DE
