“Berardenga” Chianti Classico DOCG 2019
Sangiovese in pure culture: Radiant ruby red. Rich in fruity-floral aromas, multi-layered, herbaceous, deep and of good polish with further development potential. A full-bodied and harmonious Chianti-Classico of the most authentic kind. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby with a broad garnet rim. Intense and inviting nose, full of ripe raspberries, lots of plums, warm and round. Well ripened plum fruit on the palate, grippy, savoury tannin, raspberry on the final." Falstaff
"Mid ruby. Distinct chalky cherry nose with leafy green hints. Light of touch on the palate with lively raspberry and tangy cherry fruit and with chewy tannins on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"This is lively, its cherry, strawberry and orange peel flavors picking up earth and woodsy accents. Firm tannins sweep in on the finish, yet this stays fresh and long." Wine Spectator
"One of the best vantage points for drinking Chianti Classico is at the entry level. A wine like the Fèlsina 2019 Chianti Classico Berardenga offers so much freshness and cheerful, easy-drinking appeal. It's a terrific partner to pizza, pasta or basically anything on the trattoria menu tonight. This wine shows bright cherry flavors and redcurrant with pressed flowers and some tangy blood orange. It is steady and generous, with lots of bright primary intensity." Robert Parker
"At the southeastern limit of Chianti Classico, Fèlsina’s expansive vineyards look towards Montalcino. The annata is assembled from various parcels rising from 320 to 420 metres on rocky calcareous soil with layers of sandstone. As usual, it is more earthy than fruity, bringing in evocative accents of violet, liquorice and pepper. The palate is superbly textured with fine, grainy tannins providing a sensuous grip. Dark fruited and tangy with admirable depth, it will drink well now and over the next decade. Finishes with a sprinkle of cinnamon." Decanter
"A beautiful, creamy red with cherry and chocolate character. Hints of dried earth. It’s medium-to full-bodied with creamy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. shows firmness and tension. Very drinkable now, but will improve beautifully with age." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Berardenga is a classic wine for the year. Bright, perfumed and light on its feet, the 2019 Chianti Classico Berardenga is so wonderfully expressive. There is a feeling of vibrancy to the 2019 that is hugely appealing. A wine of energy more than power. Crushed red berry fruit, cinnamon linger in a gorgeous Chianti Classico that is more about transparency than power." Vinous
"This smooth, delicious red opens with enticing scents of woodland berries, star anise, crushed mint and graphite. Polished and elegantly structured, the juicy palate delivers crushed raspberry, ripe red cherry and baking spice set against taut, refined tannins." Wine Enthusiast

“I Sistri” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2019
straw yellow, banana and white flower-scented Chardonnay with a fresh, savoury flavour, crisp fruitiness and beautiful length. One of the great white wines of Tuscany! SUPERIORE.DE
"Apricots, lemon pie, chalk, salted almonds and spices on the nose. It's full-bodied with bright acidity and a spiced, salty character. Rich, oily and toasty finish with excellent length." James Suckling
"As it turned out, I tasted this wine while working on my Alto Adige report that was focused on crisp white wines from the Italian Dolomites. Maybe that's why the profoundly Tuscan character of the Fèlsina 2019 Chardonnay I Sistri struck me with so much intensity. There is a softness here and a shiny golden sunlit color that underline the gentle warmness and mild temperatures of central Italy. Tropical aromas with poached pear and orchard fruit are framed by salty mineral definition. The wine is seamless in texture, wrapping smoothly over the palate." Robert Parker

“Berardenga” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018
Penetrating and wonderfully clear in colour, the Chianti Classico Riserva unfolds its inviting aroma reminiscent of ripe cherries with notes of spices and wild herbs. Dense and extremely juicy on the palate, it is packed with tannins and full of personality and authenticity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intriguing nose of fresh wild berries, tobacco and spices; balanced texture, the tannins fine-grained, accentuated acidity, in the ell-long finish the clear fruit interwoven with balsamic components." Vinum
"Bright, radiant ruby red. Slightly balsamic on the nose, of dried tomatoes and oranges, also of cherries and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate with pithy tannin and juicy entry." Falstaff
"Dusty tannins set the stage for this cherry and wild herb-inflected red. Boasts plenty of fruit, orange zest and iron, yet still has to reveal all its charms. Compact finish in the end, but be patient." Wine Spectator
"Sporting broad shoulders and a brawny texture, the 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga is one of those wines that you can drink throughout the entire meal from antipasto, to pasta to the meat dish. This Riserva offers dark fruit, ripe cherry, plum and soft concentration throughout. Its ample textual fiber is loosened up and refreshed by the pretty vein of crisp acidity that is so characteristic of Sangiovese." Robert Parker
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is a powerful, brooding wine. Readers will have to be patient with the 2018, as it needs time to soften. The tannins are especially potent today. Time brings out a whole range of black cherry, plum, gravel, spice, game and leather notes." Vinous
"This is a very solid, full-bodied riserva with firm and chewy yet fine-grained tannins that are nicely layered and intense. Very drinkable now, but a year or two of bottle age will soften it." James Suckling

Aromas of peach and stone fruit take centre stage, it also offers delicate mineral tones and a nice hint of baked bread. Silky and delicate, quite the stuff dreams are made of. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep straw color with aromas of dried jasmine, preserved lemon, beeswax and salted almonds. It's medium-bodied with delicious umami flavors and fine bubbles. Dry, with an oily texture, a lighter center-palate and a saline finish." James Suckling
"The Fèlsina 2016 Millesimato Metodo Classico Brut delivers ripe concentration and more fruit weight compared to the other sparkling wines in this portfolio. The bouquet shows some mild nuttiness and toasted almond with tropical fruit and summer-ripe apricot. It delivers good freshness and more lifted fruit flavors to the mouth, ending with tonic effervescence and lingering tropical fruit." Robert Parker

Metodo Classico Blanc de Noir VSQ brut
Text to follow shortly. SUPERIORE.DE
"Here's a new discovery from Fèlsina and a sign that the estate is expanding its ambitious sparkling wine program. The Metodo Classico Brut Blanc de Noir opens to a slightly pink color over a crystalline and bright appearance. To the nose, the wine offers pink grapefruit, peach, minty apple and lots of tart, citric freshness. To the palate, it shows plenty of tonic energy and freshness over medium firmness." Robert Parker

“Nero di Nubi” Pinot Nero Toscana IGT 2015
Nero di Nubi is a brilliant, unspoilt expression of this delicate Burgundy grape variety with great strength and a typical Tuscan attitude. You can taste the warmth and exuberance of the lush 2015 vintage, but this additional richness and strength never exceeds the natural limits set by this variety from the outset. In the bouquet forest berries and candied cherry with orange peel and violet. To finish, a little powdered earth with dried Mediterranean herbs. Fabulous! SUPERIORE.DE

“Rancia” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018
Sparkling, medium-dense ruby garnet. Powerful and energetic, expressive and dense is the Rancia Riserva from the single vineyard of the same name. The bouquet is characterised by a deliciously ripe and full-bodied fruit as well as mineral notes. The taste is earthy, rich in tannins and marked by the terroir, beautifully articulated, fine and with an enjoyable length. A wine that requires sensitivity and/or a few years of rest. SUPERIORE.DE
"Exceedingly inviting bouquet of ripe raspberries and pepper; the attack fresh, the tight tannins well integrated, the finish youthful on nuances of dark fruits and balsamic notes. Excellent food companion." Vinum
"Bright ruby red with a sparkling core. In the nose a mixture of noble wood and cranberries, underpinned by spicy-herbal aromas, multilayered and inviting, seems Mediterranean. On the palate with nice juiciness and tightly woven tannin, shows salty, dense, with decent persistence on the final." Falstaff
"There is a green, leafy edge along with vanilla aromas surrounding the black cherry and resinous oak flavors on the palate in this sinewy red. Finishes on the chewy side, with austere tannins. Needs time." Wine Spectator
"This is really subtle and complex with cherry, herb, floral and sage aromas that follow through to a full body with firm, fine tannins that give form and energy to the wine. Racy and very fine." James Suckling
"The Rancia is elegant and streamlined with a medium-bodied style that breaks from some of the more concentrated vintages we've seen in the past. The bouquet reveals a lot of dark or black character with blackcurrant, tar, resin, iron ore and a dusty hint of dry graham cracker (which reminds us of the vintage heat). Structurally, the wine offers a solid and firm footing, but it would benefit from further evolution." Robert Parker
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is an absolutely stunning wine. The archetype of Rancia in the past has been of a big, potent Chianti Classico but in 2018, Rancia is a wine of mind-blowing elegance and finesse. Silky, perfumed and indescribably finessed, the 2018 dazzles from start to finish. It's a magical wine in every way." Vinous

“Maestro Raro” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2017
Maestro Raro first shines with its vivid colour and then impresses with a bouquet that reveals a wonderful blackberry scent with spices, leather and tobacco aromas. The concentrated taste is soft and smooth, with a stable acidity that cooperates perfectly with the tannin structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"A big, rich cabernet with lots of currant, coffee, chocolate and cedar aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied, very chewy and concentrated. Needs time to soften. Try after 2022." James Suckling
"The Fèlsina 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Maestro Raro is a spicy, generous and intense expression of this beautiful French grape with a wild Tuscan spirit. You can't escape those notes of sage and Mediterranean herb, with Morello cherry, wild plum and blackberry that give this wine a deep sense of territorial identity that transcends its varietal character. I notice that plumpness and softness of the fruit, the succulence too, that is tied to the hot growing conditions of the vintage. The wine is open-knit and ready." Robert Parker
"A broad-shouldered style, matching blackberry, plum and graphite flavors to a solid structure. This is fresh and pretty well-balanced, with gravelly tannins shoring up the finish. Best from 2022 through 2038." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Maestro Raro is a powerful, brooding wine. My impression is that as time goes by, the Maestro Raro, which is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, becomes more and more a wine of the estate than a wine of variety, there is plenty of volume and depth in the dark fruit, but Maestro Raro is deeply marked by the wild, animal undertones that run through all of these wines. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years." Vinous

“Maestro Raro” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2018
Maestro Raro shines first with its lively colour and then impresses with a bouquet that reveals a wonderful blackberry scent after spices, leather and tobacco aromas. The concentrated taste spreads softly, in which a stable acid structure cooperates perfectly with the tannin structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red with violet. In the nose noble spicy note, after cassis and elderberries, carried by cloves and a hint of red pepper. Spicy on the palate with a slight peppery-animal note, very warm, has tension throughout and comes back juicy on the final." Falstaff
"The currant character is supercharged with wood and bark highlights. It’s full-bodied with lots of blackberry and blackcurrant undertones. Chewy and firm. Needs time to open." James Suckling
"The 2018 Maestro Raro is dense, powerful and rich. As always, Maestro Raro is a decidedly Tuscan Cabernet Sauvignon. Black fruit, leather, spice and smoke are front and center. This burly Cabernet is a bit angular, but it certainly has plenty of character." Vinous
"This is an exacting and powerful expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of Tuscany. The Fèlsina 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Maestro Raro always stands out in a crowd, and it definitely stands apart in this portfolio. The wine is sultry and rich in personality, sporting tightly wrapped tannins that will need time to soften and unwind. At its core, the wine shows concentrated black fruit flavors, but there are hints of spice, baker's chocolate and smoky tobacco that add to the complexity and the aromatic lift of the bouquet." “Fontalloro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
Shiny ruby with a light garnet edge, mineral, woody-fruity aroma of cherry, cedar, blueberry and hazelnut. With air intake, the aromas become more complex and the terroir influence very clear. Compact and very present on the palate with fine-grained tannin and classic proportions. Very high ageing potential and one of the highest-class Sangiovese of central Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby with a fine garnet tongue. Appealing, multi-layered nose with notes of tobacco, plums and raspberry. Flows well-balanced and harmonious over the palate, lots of fine-meshed tannin, clearly worked out fruit, shows rich pressure again in the final, long finish." Falstaff
"Black cherry and blackberry flavors are accented by earth, rosemary and tobacco in this sleek, incisive red, which is balanced and linear, with vibrant acidity driving the long finish, where a note of iron creeps into the mix." Wine Spectator
"A tight, fresh Fontalloro with dark cherry, chocolate and toasted oak. Some walnut, too. It's full-bodied, yet polished and structured. Sort of shy. But this will develop really nicely with some bottle age." James Suckling
"The 2018 Fontalloro is bright, floral and full of energy. In most vintages, Fontalloro is quite open, but the 2018 is especially nervy and taut. That won't be an issue in time, of course, but readers should plan on being patient. Sangiovese is so expressive here. A whole range of floral and savory accents lingers on the close." Vinous
"There is plenty of dark fruit at its core, but this wine also reveals dry tones of jarred oregano, grilled Mediterranean herb, crushed aspirin and graham cracker. The mouthfeel is pleasantly lean and silky, and perhaps the wine delivers more in terms of length than it does weight or texture. A little more bottle age should help flesh out and soften these results." Robert Parker

“Fontalloro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017
Shiny ruby with a slight garnet edge, mineral, woody-fruity scent of cherry, cedar, blueberry and hazelnut. With aeration the aromas become more and more complex and the terroir influence very clear. Compact and very present on the palate with fine-grained tannin and classic proportions. Very high ageing potential and one of the highest quality Sangiovese of central Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shining ruby grenade. Opens with subtle earthy notes of tobacco, pomegranate, cherry and some strawberry. Surprisingly juicy on the palate, shows well worked out fruit, pithy, gripping tannin, well integrated, salty and with good tension. Falstaff
"In the commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, the Fèlsina property spills over the Chianti Classico border into Chianti Colli Senesi. Fontalloro is a blend of vineyards from both sides. Artfully tousled, it captures Sangiovese's untamed side. Sunbaked herbs and irony earth permeate exuberant wild berries. There is plenty to chew on without being heavy and while tannins are a bit gritty, this has a ton of personality." Decanter
"The flavors of cherry, strawberry and rose are pure, with a backbone of acidity and dense tannins for support. Iron and wild herb accents add depth as this red lingers, showing smoke and spice notes. Features a sense of urgency, driven by vivid acidity. The finish evokes energy. Best from 2022 through 2038." Wine Spectator
"I like the clarity and linear quality to this with ripe-cherry and bark flavors. It’s full-bodied, though not heavy and ponderous. Racy and bright at the end." James Suckling
"The Fèlsina 2017 Fontalloro pours out of the bottle with a bang. This pure expression of Sangiovese is luscious and dark with thick layers of dark fruit, plum, cherry, leather and tilled earth. This hot-vintage edition shows good depth and intensity with lots of that black-fruit energy and extra concentration that is typical of this growing season. However, you can always count on Fontalloro to show balance, and that's exactly what you get here despite the adversity of the scorching summer season. That Sangiovese acidity remains intact and crisp." Robert Parker
"Fontalloro is exquisite in 2017. It is also such a contrast to the Rancia, as the two wines could not possibly be more different. Fontalloro is bright and vibrant, with more sweet red Sangiovese character than the darker Rancia. It is also incredibly delicious now, even though it clearly has the energy to age for many years. The 2017 is one of the finest Fontalloros I can remember tasting." Vinous

“Colonia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017
When you hear the story of the effort that went into the Colonia vineyard, you have to wonder if the fine people of Fèlsina are absolutely crazy. It took them two years to remove the imposing rock that had forced previous generations of the Poggiali family to virtually abandon this noble site. But it is thanks to the ambitious Giovanni Poggiali that this spectacular vineyard (Vigneto Colonia) became what it is today. It has reddish-brown soils, is rich in magnesium and iron, and is thus quite different from all other Fèlsina sites.
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is a wine of enormous beauty and depth. Dark ruby in the glass, it smells expressively mineral and pure, with aromas of dark cherry and blackcurrant. Mineral and graphite aromas and the simply terrific focus on the Sangiovese grape make it an incomparable masterpiece. On the palate, it is extremely well-balanced and elegant with optimally integrated wood - it is immediately clear that another top wine of the house has been created that is more than a match for the Fontalloro. Fortunately for those who can taste it, there are only 3,000 bottles per vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny ruby with garnet glints. The nose shows emphatic earthy components of tobacco and red beet, then lots of raspberry. Full-bodied and hearty in the attack and course, shows lots of grippy tannin, also earthy notes on the palate." Falstaff
"Lots of cherry and vanilla aromas and flavors with a full body, dense and structured center palate and a long, flavorful finish. Shows blue fruit and dried flowers at the end." James Suckling
"Named for an ancient heliotherapy colony that once existed here, Colonia exudes its luminous location and stony, sunbaked, wild surroundings. Warm and generous with sundried tomato and cherry, grilled sage, iron and vanilla, this is unabashedly powerful while maintaining extraordinary balance. It absorbs its new-barrique ageing effortlessly, allowing a savoury, umami character to shine through. Ample dusty tannins coat the mouth but the finish is clean and energetic." Decanter
"Tasted young, the Fèlsina 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia shows a darker color of fruit (compared to the lither and more delicate 2016 vintage that I tasted at the same time). Sangiovese grapes were naturally concentrated by the heat and dryness of the vintage, and the oak signature is more prominent here. I'd definitely suggest putting this wine aside in your cellar to allow for better integration. I kept my open bottle at 55 degrees Fahrenheit and tasted it again two days later. The wine opened beautifully to show rich and profound fruit with some of those earthy and dusty limestone aromas that are so specific to this labor-intensive farming site on a remote hilltop. The score you see here was adjusted higher after that second tasting. A mere 6,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

"Sparkling, rich ruby red. Very intense and clearly marked nose, full of wild raspberries and blackberries, behind it cardamom, exciting. Substantial and dense in attack and course, opens up in lots of pithy tannin, rich, dark berry fruit, in the final emphatically earthy notes, after red beet and cocoa." Falstaff
"Sweet berries and dried flowers on the nose with sage and lavender. Medium-to full-bodied with chewy tannins, yet these are polished and intense. Very structured and solid. Needs cellar time. Try after 2023." James Suckling
"I prefer this wine to Fèlsina's top-shelf Fontalloro. The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is irresistibly angular and tight, opening a profound view onto what makes Sangiovese so expressive and unique, especially when planted in the right territories. The bouquet is savory and almost sanguine with iron ore, rusty nail and baked clay. But there's plenty of fruit as well, in the form of wild berry and black cherry, that adds to the dimension and dynamic freshness of the mouthfeel. Give this wine time to soften in the bottle." Robert Parker
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colonia is fascinating to taste next to the Rancia, as the two parcels are adjacent. Rich and substantial in the glass, Colonia is textured and ample, qualities that become increasingly apparent over time. Rugged, rocky terrain seems to amplify power, explosive verticality and acidity." Vinous

Fontalloro and Rancia are wine icons of Tuscany. The Gambero Rosso counts Fèlsina among the ten most successful Italian wineries. You can hardly achieve much more in the Italian wine scene.
It was 1966 when the major shipowner Domenico Poggiali from Ravenna purchased the abandoned estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga in the southernmost corner of the Chianti Classico region. At that time the Fattoria di Fèlsina did not even have 10 hectares of land. The few vines were only used to supply the farmsteads of the village with wine. However, the new owner recognized the quality of the hilly land, which was located from the foothills of the Chianti Classico area near Siena to the eastern flanks of the Ombrone valley not far from Montalcino in the Colli Senesi (Sienese Hills). Gradually he acquired about 500 hectares of land, of which today about 95 hectares are cultivated with wine. The rest are olive groves, agricultural land and woods.
At the beginning of the 1970s Poggiali also built underground cellars to withstand the high temperature fluctuations. Together with his son Giuseppe he built the winery from scratch. In times when Italian viticulture and especially Chianti was going through its most difficult phase, this was more than brave. The whole family helped of course, including the daughter Gloria, who had married the professor of literature Giovanni Mazzocolin. And because he earned so little as a professor, he too was to work in the winery. Actually in sales. But the art-loving professor was more concerned with the quality of the wines. He met Franco Bernabei, an oenologist from the Veneto region who had studied in Conegliano, and implemented his suggestions. Reduction of yields, new education systems, later harvesting, riper grapes, more modern cellar technology - and a selection of different Sangiovese clones.
While half of Italy relied on Cabernet & Co, Fèlsina produced pure Sangiovese wines, Fontalloro and Rancia had their premiere in 1983 and were to make the Fattoria di Fèlsina world-famous. It was also decided in 1983 to produce wines as close to nature as possible in the future. More important to Mazzocolin than the level of the harvest yields was a high biodiversity in the vineyards in order to protect the cultivated areas from pests to a large extent.
Today the grandson of the founder, Giovanni Poggiali, manages the now newly built cellar and vineyards, but always remains true to the successful style. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fèlsina belongs to the cult labels of Tuscany. The pure wines, on the other hand, which want to know little about modern, short-lived fashions, shine with elegance and personality."Gambero Rosso
