      Rosato Toscana IGT 2018 (BIO)

The almost 10,000 bottles of Rosato di Toscana from Rocca di Montegrossi are exemplary and perfect. Clean aromas of cherry and strawberry in the nose, on the palate lively, elegant and balanced, persistent with berries and spices. SUPERIORE.DE

"Salmon pink colour. Inviting white and red fruit, sweet raspberry nose with a hint of chalk. Sappy fruit palate with perfect, balancing acidity and great length." Jancis Robinson

"Medium pale pink. Floral strawberry, herbs and violets on the inviting nose. Then a slightly candied quality and a hint of residual sweetness diminish the vibrancy of the floral and juicy red berry flavors but contribute to a smooth, round mouthfeel. The finish is long and very precise, with obvious mineral elements emerging" VINOUS

    • Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO)

      Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO)

Lively ruby with bright violet reflections, rich fruity aromas in the nose, typical of wild berries and sour cherries. Extremely tasty, harmonious and well structured, with silky tannins and spicy accents. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark ruby. Subdued but concentrated. Bags of sweet-sour cherry fruit and a layer of polished tannins. Great length and grip." Jancis Robinson

"Rocca di Montegrossi sits on a high gentle plain surrounded by 20ha of vineyard that reach up to 500 metres above sea level. South- to southeast-facing, it's always well-ventilated and the soil is rich in calcium carbonate, giving dark hued, saline wines. There's certainly lots of freshness and tang to this wine, even in the hot 2017 vintage. It's so youthful, with exuberant cherry and liquorice spice draped around supple tannins. Pure drinking pleasure." Decanter

"Rocca di Montegrossi's 2017 Chianti Classico is a rich, exuberant wine that is going to need at least a few years in bottle to settle down. Super-ripe, dense and concentrated, the 2017 may very well shock readers with its intensity. Then again, that is 2017. Super-ripe dark plum, espresso, spice and licorice all race out of the glass. It will be interesting to see where the 2017 goes in the coming years." Vinous

"A rich, plum- and black cherry–infused red, pitting the lush texture against a solid base of tannins. Tobacco, earth and mineral notes add depth. The finish is vibrant and long." Wine Spectator

“Geremia” Rosso Toscano IGT 2014 (BIO)

Smells intensely of currants and black cherries, leather, spices and liquorice. On the palate it is rich and flowing, all the elements merge into a great, distinctive wine. Great potential! SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, deep dark ruby with a lot of violet. Compact nose with pronounced notes of blackcurrant and ripe blackberries, underpinned by notes of liquorice and soot. In the beginning much dark berry fruit, also liquorice, opens then with much substantial, dense tannin, firm pressure, in the aftertaste earthy notes, in the finale slightly herbaceous." Falstaff

"Walnuts, coffee beans, dark fruit and a bark undertone. Full body, soft and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Lovely, chewy texture." James Suckling

"An intense red, boasting an expressive range of kirsch, raspberry, floral, mineral and spice flavors, nicely offset by a vibrant structure. All the elements come together on the lingering aftertaste. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon." Wine Spectator

"The 2014 Geremia, Rocca di Montegrossi's Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is another compelling wine in this range. Today, the Geremia is perhaps a bit austere, but at least some of that is attributable to the personality of the vintage. Time in the glass brings out an attractive range of sage, menthol, licorice and dark red/purplish fruit. I very much like the energy and drive here." Antonio Galloni

Chianti Classico “Vigna San Marcellino” Gran Selezione DOCG 2014 (BIO)

Deep ruby red, large, complex and enveloping bouquet of black forest berries, violets and tobacco. The single layer Chianti Classico San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins and of exemplary harmony and length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense ruby with violet. Dark rich cherry, lots of blackberry, somewhat coarser tannins, but very finely coated, hearty and salty, in the finale saturated pressure." Falstaff

"This has surprising heft and ripeness of fruit for the cool and rainy 2014 vintage. Deeply coloured, it starts with toasted oak and sweet spice then makes way for red plum and pepper. The tannins are a bit chunky but admirably ripe, and this stands up to many of the Gran Seleziones from the more highly-regarded 2015 and 2016 vintages." Decanter

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino is dark, sumptuous and super-expressive. Like all of the wines here, the 2014 San Marcellino needs at least a few years in bottle to truly show everything it has, but there is more than enough here to provide for engaging drinking for many years to come. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous scents of black cherry, plum, menthol, licorice and smoke. The 2014 is a striking, complete wine." Vinous

"Extremely dense, sparkling ruby. Very intense, fleshy nose, much dark currant, some elderberries overlaid by fine cocoa notes and tobacco. Has great tension, lots of dense tannin, close meshed, lots of blackberry, cassis, very substantial." Falstaff

"The Geremia, Rocca di Montegrossi's Merlot/Cabernet Sauvignon blend, is outrageously beautiful in 2015. Racy and pliant, with soft curves, Geremia captures all of the radiant beauty of the vintage. Sweet red cherry, plum, mint, mocha and sweet spice are all fused together. At the moment, there is a touch of new oak that still needs to integrate, but a few more years in bottle should do the trick. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral notes and red-toned fruit character that lend freshness and lift to play off the wine’s more extroverted leanings. The 2015 is a gorgeous Geremia." • Vin Santo del Chianti DOC 2006

Vin Santo del Chianti DOC 2006

Only 2,500 bottles are bottled per vintage: Amber Vin Santo, incredibly full, with notes of almonds, honey and candied oranges; it is pressed from white dried Malvasia grapes and a small part of Canaiolo. With its pleasant sweetness it is a wonderful companion to desserts, foie gras or soft cheese. SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas and flavors of molasses, Muscat raisin and caramel are the hallmarks of this sweet, unctuous dessert white. The finish is creamy and resonant, showing freshness and harmony." Wine Spectator

"Dark colored amber. So much dried, sweet cherries. Full-bodied and very sweet with syrup, yet fresh and amazing. A unique sweet wine. Drink forever. A joy to taste by the tea spoon." James Suckling

"Rocca di Montegrossi often makes one of the richest Vin Santos in Chianti Classico. The 2006 is a bit less opulent than is often the case, but that just means the Vin Santo is not a blockbuster. Voluptuous and beautifully layered throughout, the 2006 offers an attractive infusion of dried herbs, wild flowers, coconut, mint and leather, all wrapped around a core of dark, deeply spiced fruit." Geremia from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon smells intensely of currants and black cherries, leather, spices and liquorice. On the palate lush and flowing, all elements merge to a great, distinctive wine. Great potential! SUPERIORE.DE

"A rich ruby with a violet shimmer. Smells of chocolate, then a lot of cassis and blackberry, full-bodied and dense. It shows a lot of sweet and present fruit on the palate, opens with fine-meshed tannin, covered with a lot of sweet fruit, a lot of pressure, long aftertaste". Falstaff

"The 2011 Geremia, the estate's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend, offers tons of energy to balance its dark, inky fruit. Lavender, menthol, melted road tar, sage, crème de cassis and grilled herbs are some of the many signatures. The ripeness and raciness of the year come through in spades, yet there is an element of pulsating intensity in the glass that plays off the more overt elements nicely. This is another superb showing from Rocca di Montegrossi." Antonio Galloni

Deep ruby red, large, complex and enveloping bouquet of black forest berries, violets and tobacco. San Marcellino is excellently structured, interwoven with lively, elegant tannins and of exemplary harmony and length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tar, licorice, incense and smoke all burst from the glass in the 2009 Vigneto San Marcellino. A rich, layered wine, the 2009 boasts stunning depth and power from start to finish. I visited the property in 2009 just before the harvest and can attest to the quality of this fruit right off the vine. The 2009 is decidedly dark and brooding. Readers who can cellar the wine for at least a few years will be in for a real treat once it awakens." Antonio Galloni

Shows in the mouth a grippy, dense tannin, juicy dark berry fruit, builds up in many layers, in the finale firm pressure, remains despite concentration very well drinkable." Falstaff

On the palate much gripping, dense tannin, builds up full, substance and firm, looks still very young, has a long life before itself! Falstaff

"Lots of blackberry, black currant and mineral aromas that follow through to a full body, that's tight and silky. Shows pretty length and texture. Very finely crafted." James Suckling

"Shows more finesse than power, featuring well-defined flavors of black cherry, currant, tobacco and tea. The finish is beefy, with tealike tannins holding court." Wine Spectator

"The 2012 Geremia is the highlight in this range, and also one of the best wines I tasted during my recent trip through Chianti Classico. Deep, dense and brooding, the 2012 is another wine that will require considerable time to come into focus. Today it possesses exceptional depth, power and intensity, all of which will allow it to age effortlessly for many years. With time in the glass, scents of lavender, sage, menthol and licorice start to open up, but the 2012 needs time. This is an absolutely stellar wine from Rocca di Montegrossi and proprietor Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi." Antonio Galloni

    Rocca di Montegrossi

Modernity meets tradition - this could be the motto of the young winery Rocca di Montegrossi, located in the heart of Chianti Classico. In Monti, the highest town in the area near Gaiole, Marco Ricasoli-Firidolfi, a descendant of the noble family that wrote important chapters in the history of Chianti, has been rigorously and carefully selecting the local Sangiovese, Colorino, Canaiolo, Pugnitello and Malvasia Bianca del Chianti grape varieties since the early 1980s. The wine cellar, renovated at the turn of the millennium, combines traditional techniques with the best new technologies.

The total area of the estate is 100 hectares, of which 20 hectares are vineyards mainly reserved for Chianti Classico and olive groves mixed with fruit trees. Since Marco almost exclusively uses the Coreggiolo variety for the stone fruits, the company's high-quality edible oil consists of a single variety. The vineyards, all gently sloped on calcareous hills with medium-heavy soil and south-southeast exposure, are situated at an altitude of between 340 and 510 metres above sea level. Sangiovese occupies the largest part of the cultivated area, followed by Merlot with a large distance.

The vines and olive trees of Rocca di Montegrossi are cultivated according to officially certified organic rules. The estate is also ecological in other respects. For example, rainwater is collected in order not to waste valuable drinking water. In the wine cellar, part of the heating is powered by solar energy; the electrical energy is obtained exclusively from renewable sources.

The winery houses large oak barrels and barriques, which are used in different forms depending on the type of wine, under the oenological guidance of Attilio Pagli. With the Chianti Classico Vigneto San Marcellino and the Bordeaux blend Geremia, the descendant of the famous Tuscan noble house produces two outstanding wines. SUPERIORE.DE
