“Villa Petrognano” Bianco Pomino DOC 2022
The owner of Selvapiana, Francesco Giuntini, and the owner of the Petrognano winery, Cecilia Galeotti Ottieri, have a long friendship. Their small winery, located on Tuscany's border with Emilia Romagna, lies in the middle of the Pomino DOC, which was first mentioned in a document in 1716 and is one of the first four protected appellations in Tuscany (along with Rufina Classico, Carmignano and Valdarno Superiore).
For some years now, the two have been linked by the "Villa Petrognano" project - under this name, a clear, very well-structured white is produced under Selvapiana's aegis. On the nose, delicious notes of white peach, apple and rose, followed by honey and traces of star jasmine. Very enjoyable on the palate, a wine of captivating elegance, freshness and with a clearly defined personality. SUPERIORE.DE

“Fornace” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017
This successful blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon opens with dark concentration and great density. Fornace offers impressive juiciness and rich flavours of red cherries, blackberries, spices and grilled herbs. Its full body, restrained acidity and silky tannins are perfectly balanced, with balsamic hints accompanying this attractive Supertuscan into a supple and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense and packed with plum, black cherry, leather, tobacco and spice flavors, this red is backed by a spine of stiff tannins. Offers sufficient fruit to match the structure, finding nice equilibrium in the end." Wine Spectator
"Mushrooms, meat and earth with some blackcurrant on the nose. Medium to full body, firm and chewy tannins and a long, fresh finish. Bright and exciting for this vintage. Undertones of gravel." James Suckling

“Vigneto Bucerchiale” Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG 2020
Wonderful, finesse-rich selection of the best Sangiovese grapes of the winery. The nose convinces with richness: red fruits, dark flowers, in addition fine tar and vegetal notes, traces of blackberry jam. On the palate, full-bodied with subtle extract sweetness, punchy and juicy at the same time, the well-proportioned tannins come into play very well and glide this red elegantly into a long final. “Vigneto Erchi” Chianti Rufina Riserva DOCG 2018
The top-quality Riserva Vigneto Erchi comes from the small vineyard of the same name, which has belonged to the Fattoria Selvapiana estate since 1998. For a long time, the owners have been looking for a vineyard whose terroir impressively proves the complexity of Sangiovese in the Rufina area, and so this wine is a top-class addition to the famous Selvapiana collection.
Compared to Bucerchiale, Vigneto Erchi is a little more red-fruited and combines its power with beautiful finesse. In the well-tempered bouquet, precise and well-defined aromas of wild cherry and red currant, alongside hints of blue flowers and earthy notes. Initially restrained on the palate, it gains volume and breed with further aeration. Maturation in French oak provides a structure and depth that will give it a long life. Everything is just right here, the new top Sangiovese of the house has found its place. SUPERIORE.DE
"Purity of cherries and crushed stones on the nose. Medium to full body, racy tannins and a mineral crisp finish. Nice structure, if a little austere now. Better from 2024." James Suckling
"Fattoria Selvapiana, one of the region's top producers, has described its 5 ha Vigna Erchi as iron soil compared to its legendary Bucerchiale vineyard. Exceptional elegance and a silky melt complement the bold dark fruit character. Although aged for 18 months in French barriques, there is no hint of oak on the palate, only its influence. The wine is a classic example of power and finesse, invigorating freshness and great length. The tannins remain polished and unobtrusive, even when you keep the wine in your mouth. It is a youthful wine, but its impeccable balance suggests longevity and glorious evolution." Decanter

The Selvapiana winery has had a very sonorous name for decades. It is a unique way of combining the characteristics of the Chianti Rufina sub-region with the modern achievements of viticulture. The typical Tuscan country estate with manor house and outbuildings is picturesquely situated on the left bank of the Sieve between Pontassieve and Rufina. Besides fine wines, olive oil and cereals are also produced there.
Built as a medieval castle with two fortified towers, the Fattoria Selvapiana was the summer residence of the bishops of Florence for a long time before it passed into the possession of some rich merchant families. In 1827 the estate was acquired by the Giuntini family of Florentines bankers. The deployment of Francesco Giuntini was particularly commendable. With great determination and skill he had earned the worldwide recognition of the Chianti of Selvapiana and Rufina. In 2003, the estate was converted to organic farming and a modern cellar system now allows a more gentle and individual expansion of the plants.
The management of the mixed farm is now in the hands of Federico Giuntini Masseti and his sister Silvia. The elegant wines are produced under the supervision of the renowned ecologist Franco Bernabei. The most important products of the house are the Chianti Rufina Selvapiana and the great Riserva from the Bucerchiale vineyard. Both wines are considered to be very long-lived.
The vineyards of Selvapiana are situated on the slopes of the Sievetal. The soil with its lime-rich skeletal parts, clay and sandstone marl can store heat very well. Sangiovese and Canaiolo form the basis of the cuvées. In total, 240 hectares of agricultural land belong to the Fattoria. superiore.de)
"It is thanks to the family that they have made a brand out of wine. And that for over 50 years." Captain Cork.
