“La Fabriseria” Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2016

La Fabriseria looks like an elegant, medium weight Amarone. Its intensity, tannin structure and density are hard to beat in this price range. On the palate it is very juicy, full-bodied and soft, with notes of cherry, cardamom and cloves. And always with the elegant seriousness of the big flagship of the Tedeschi family of the same name. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense, rich, dark ruby red. Delicately spicy nose, after leather and tobacco, then shows rich Amarena cherry and blackberry, in the aftertaste mineral touch. Dense and rich on the palate, opens on a velvety enamel, spreads beautifully, flows calmly, multi-layered and long in the harmonious final." Falstaff

"Dark cherries overwhelm at first; this will need time in a decanter to open up. A whole herb garden then appears, including dried peppermint, cumin, parsley and chives. Full-bodied and very juicy on the palate with chunky tannins and spice undertones throughout." James Suckling

    • "Marne 180" Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2015

“Marne 180” Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2015

The new name "Marne 180" is the program: "Marne" means marl soil on which the vines for this magnificent Amarone grow. They are at least 20 years old and lie in an ideal 180° direction - from south-west to south-east.

Rich, dense colour, compact bouquet with intense aromas of plum, green tea and tobacco, in the background a fine chocolate note. The powerful body changes on the palate into a dynamic taste experience with sweet fruit melt, tight tannin and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"This leads off with a waft of bay leaf on the nose, followed by an herbal accent that laces the black raspberry, fig cake and spice box flavors on the palate. A firm, medium- to full-bodied red, this is not a powerhouse, but offers pleasant freshness and expression." Wine Spectator

" Lots of pretty herbal and foresty undertones come to the fore on the nose, ranging from cumin to aniseed and truffles. Dark cherries and brambleberries abound. Plush and chewy, this full-bodied red delivers soft, juicy tannins against a backdrop of ostentatious dark fruit." James Suckling

"The wine's name Marne 180 plays up both of those site-specific attributes. A new wine from Tedeschi, the 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella Marne 180 is slightly more approachable when stacked against the estate's Amarone Capitel Monte Olmi. Offering bright primary fruit with good complexity in the form of spice, tobacco and dried herbs, you could serve the Marne 180 at a holiday party with a platter of French cheeses." Robert Parker

    • "Marne 180" Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG 2016

Rich, dense colour, compact bouquet with intense aromas of plum, green tea and tobacco, with a fine chocolate note in the background. "There's a sense of finesse to this concentrated red, with the fine tannins providing a plush frame for well-knit flavors of ripe red and black currant, wild sage, red licorice and graphite-laced mineral that linger on the mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator

"The flashy dark fruit here is impressive and captivates while running through various shades of dark licorice, dark cherries and dark plums. Hints of tee-tree and eucalyptus oil. Full-bodied and plush, yet tightly woven and rather savory. This is a delicious Amarone with a powerful, chewy backbone of tannins. Drink from 2023." James Suckling

"Referring to the marly soil and 180-degree exposure, Tedeschi's Marne 180 is crafted from the estate's hillside vineyards in eastern Valpolicella. Besides the requisite Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella, it includes a handful of lesser-known grape varieties indigenous to the zone - like Negrara, Rossignola, Forselina and Croatina. An exuberant Amarone that is youthful and clean, this has aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and mint which tumble out of the glass then give way to pure dark cherry and sandalwood. Full, rich and luscious, it has smooth, caressing tannins and bright acid to refresh, lingering with plum and dried violet. This epitomises the vibrancy of the 2016 vintage." Decanter

    • "La Fabriseria" Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG 2011

“La Fabriseria” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG 2011

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Fabriseria presents itself massive and with seductive complexity. Deep bouquet of black berries and cocoa, violets and lavender. The taste is immensely fruity with the aromas of cherry, blackberry and wild berry, and the invigorating impressions of medicinal herbs. Elegant and long finish with fine sweetness and a hint of mint. For us one of the greatest wines of Valpolicella! SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark, bright ruby red. Elegant and fragrant nose of ripe plums, Amarena cherries, chocolate, with an aftertaste of mint and the finest notes of wood. Complex and elegant on the palate with filigree acidity, pronounced fruit, stretches far over the tongue, gripping in the second part with polished tannin, echoes very long." Falstaff

"A rich, racehorse of a red, with a sense of finesse to the integration of dense and sculpted elements. Offers a rich streak of smoky mineral and forest floor, showing a lovely range of cherry and black raspberry coulis, mandarin orange peel and sandalwood flavors. Delivers a long, grippy finish." Wine Spectator

"Deep ruby. Captivating nose of ripe red cherry, cassis, botanical herbs, smoke and brown spices. At once powerful and refined, with a multilayered quality to its complex, opulent red cherry, aromatic herb and honeyed flavors. Finishes extremely long and classically dry. A knockout Amarone. Tedeschi’s 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva La Fabriseria is a benchmark wine in more ways than one: it’s the first Riserva La Fabriseria ever made by Tedeschi, and also the first time this wine is a true cru, made from a single vineyard in San Giorgio di Valpolicella (which falls in between Fumane and Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella). A blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta, it’s aged four years in large oak barrels, it’s a wine Tedeschi makes only in exceptional vintages." VINOUS

"This is a bruiser of a wine—but in a very good way. Loud and expressive and with a roundhouse 17% alcohol kick, the 2011 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva la Fabriseria throws out several different shades of smoke and spice within its thick quality of fruit. Super rich and full-bodied, you'll appreciate its bold character of toasted espresso bean and oak, presented alongside cola and cherry liqueur. The wine is like a gregarious but cuddly friend who is built like a tank and doesn't register his own strength. The blend is 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, all coming from the La Fabriseria vineyard located between San Giorgio di Valpolicella and Mazzurega in the Sant'Ambrogio valley, with vines at 500 meters above sea level. The grapes are dried for four months in a ventilated room. Since its birth, this wine has only been produced in the following vintages: 1983, 1988, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2007 and 2011. Starting with this 2011 vintage, the wine now carries the Riserva designation. You won't find many Amarones quite like this one, especially as only 2,500 bottles of this vintage were made." In former times the clan drove basket bottles filled with wine on the cart to Verona. But those days are over. Today the Tedeschi family winery is one of the historically most important wineries in Valpolicella. Documents from the family's own archives prove that the family had already acquired vineyards in 1630. Almost 200 years later Nicolò Tedeschi laid the foundation stone for today's Azienda. In the meantime the company from San Pietro is managed by Antonietta, Sabrina and Riccardo. The three siblings are supported in their work with tips and suggestions from their very successful and experienced father Lorenzo. Over the years, the selective purchase of top locations has been particularly important for the upswing of the family business, which is already managed by the fifth generation and above all known for its Amarone.

The family acquired the Monte Olmi vineyard in the Classico area north of Verona. The origin of the clayey and calcareous soil dates back to the Ice Age. Later the seven hectare vineyard La Fabriseria between Fumane and Sant'Ambrogio was bought. Adjacent to the Lucchine vineyard is the 'Centro di Apassimento', completed in 2007. In rooms specially designed for grape drying, the temperature and humidity can be precisely controlled. A year earlier, the Tedeschis had acquired the 84-hectare Tenuta Maternigo (Mother Earth) in eastern Valpolicella from the Tedeschis. So far, however, only 31 hectares of land in the municipalities of Mezzane and Tregnano have been used for wine-growing. The plots were partially restocked. In the Maternigo vineyard, native grape varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta thrive on vineyards 200 to 450 metres high.

With the purchase of the Maternigo farm, Tedeschi has embarked on another era of improvement and renewal of historical wines, with the aim of combining the traditional power with even greater elegance and finesse inherent in the grapes of this terroir. In order to constantly raise the level, the solid family business has always invested continuously in vineyards and cellars. The results of all efforts to improve quality are remarkable. The wines are balanced, aromatic and well structured. They possess personality and convince by their unmistakable style and character. The wide range reflects the expression of the Venetian grape cultures. The important Auslesen are only produced in particularly good years. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Tedeschi siblings' farm embodies the very history of the Valpolicella area, made up of vineyards, wines and special people. The wines impress again and again by their excellent storability and present themselves also after years with juvenile finesse and a tension, which rarely appears in the first years of life."Gambero Rosso
