• "La Grola" Rosso Veronese IGT 2016
Artist Label "Hiroyuki Masuyama"

“La Grola” Rosso Veronese IGT 2016 · Artist Label “Hiroyuki Masuyama“

La Grola is the historic vineyard that gave its name to Corvina, the autochthonous grape of Valpolicella, which is probably its origin. The replanting of the vineyard by Giovanni Allegrini sparked an agronomic revolution and laid the foundations for the success of this wine-growing area, which today is home to great red wines from north-eastern Italy.

So it is not surprising that La Grola receives a special honour from its magnificent location. Since 2010, Allegrini has been collaborating with internationally renowned artists, publishing year after year a unique, limited artist edition. The edition opened with a work by Milo Manara, continued in 2011 with a label designed by Arthur Duff and continued in 2012 with a painting by Athos Faccincani. The composition VI by Wassily Kandinsky was selected for La Grola in 2013, and in 2014 the artistic journey went to Brazil and to Nazareno Rodrigues Alves, before returning to Italy with the 2015 edition to Leonardo Ulian.

The 2016 vintage was interpreted by a great Japanese artist: Hiroyuki Masuyama. In a highly innovative process, La Grola's Limited Edition ennobles the fascinating synthesis of overlapping shots. A total of 288 photographs are incorporated into this work, showing one of the legendary vineyards of Valpolicella from an exciting and completely new perspective. Time and space are the fundamental elements of Hiroyuki Masuyama's overall creativity: everything revolves around these two concepts, which have been formalised differently over the years and have become the hallmark of his work. Masuyama combines and overlaps the result of hundreds of photographs taken of his subject from a fixed angle. The result of this superimposition is another image of the same place.

We are pleased to be able to offer you some copies of the special edition, which is strictly limited every year!

Polished tannins, a fine salt note and a well-dosed acidity lead this extremely elegant Amarone into a brilliant finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"A rich hint of tarry smoke on the nose is more subtle on the palate in this harmonious red, underscoring an expressive range of black cherry, dried fig, espresso and the loamy earth and herb aromatics of a forest floor. Tangy citrus peel acidity and fine-grained tannins provide fine definition through to the lightly chewy finish." Wine Spectator

"Very rich black fruit on the nose with a ground-base of blackcurrants, tainted with notes of prunes and dates. Smoky-spice notes add complexity. Full-bodied with intense, exotic black-fruit flavors, just as on the nose. Firm tannins and good acidity complete the picture. Good intensity and drive here. Drinkable even now, but best from 2023, when the tannins will be softer." James Suckling

    • "La Poja" Corvina Veronese IGT 2015

“La Poja” Corvina Veronese IGT 2015

La Poja from the vineyard of the same name is a great terroir wine in which Allegrini does without grape drying. Dynamic, precise and very elegant in all its components, it offers the highest pleasure and promises a terrific development. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2015 La Poja, a varietal Corvina Veronese, blossoms in the glass with notes of smoked meats and crushed stone opening further to floral-tinged black cherries and balsamic spice. It's velvety and deeply textural, offering ripe dark fruits complicated by salty minerals and hints of bitter herbs. Fine tannins slowly mount, making themselves known throughout the long finale, where a hint of camphor helps to slightly lift this youthful expression. The 2015 will require some time in the cellar to show its best, but it will be worth the wait." Vinous

"An elegant red, with an enticing nose of ripe fruit and floral accents, as well as a tang of iron-laced minerality that underscores flavors of ripe black raspberry and cherry fruit, star anise and Earl Grey tea. Medium- to full-bodied and well-knit, sleek, fine-grained tannins emerge to firm the lasting finish. Hard to stop sipping, but should expand nicely with even short-term cellaring." Wine Spectator

"There's a dark, mineral-driven complexity to the 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico that keeps you coming back to the glass over and over again. Sometimes it's licorice, sometimes blackberry or maraschino cherry, but always backed by a mix of autumnal spice, sour citrus and hints of animal musk that intrigue the senses. Velvety-smooth and almost creamy in weight, as sweet red fruits flesh out, taking on nuances of violet candies and cloves toward the close. This is pure elegance, dense yet balanced, and delivering a layer of fine tannins that linger long, as hints of bitter coffee and dark chocolate slowly fade. All of this, and at an amazingly respectable 15.5% abv. Bravo." Vinous

"Ripe plum, blue flower and spice aromas lift out of the glass in this full-bodied red. The smooth, concentrated palate boasts a weightless elegance, delivering blackberry compote, ripe Morello cherry, licorice and baking spice framed in enveloping, velvety tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"Despite a cool, rainy spring, the 2016 vintage is one of the best in recent years due to a warm summer that never exceeded 35°C. Full of dark-fruit intensity - plum and cassis - the wine is layered with dark chocolate, black liquorice and a toasty finish with cherry notes. Velvety and extracted, it's thick on the palate due to its youthful character. Great potential to age, with a superb natural acidity from the higher vineyard of the estate above Villa della Torre, balancing its richness of fruit and full body." Decanter

    • "La Grola" Rosso Veronese IGT 2016
Artist Label "Hiroyuki Masuyama"
6 Bottles in OWC

“La Grola” Rosso Veronese IGT 2016 · Artist Label “Hiroyuki Masuyama” · 6 Bottles in OWC

In each wooden box of 6 there are 6 bottles with Masuyama's exclusive artist's label. We are pleased to be able to offer you some copies of the special edition, which is strictly limited every year!

Dense, dark ruby red, in the nose very full-bodied and strong with tones of forest and overripe berries. The rich fullness from coffee to black cherries is accompanied by present, pleasant tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lovely balance, as always, to this super Veronese red with juicy dark fruit and hints of black chocolate. Medium to full body, succulent tannins and a fresh finish." James Suckling

"Very inky and toasty nose. On the palate the wine is elegant, fresh and poised with classy, well-integrated oak, flavours of plums and cherries and tight tannins, which will soften in time." Decanter

    • "La Poja" Corvina Veronese IGT 2015
6 Bottles in OWC

“La Poja” Corvina Veronese IGT 2015 · 6 Bottles in OWC

    About the winemakersAllegriniVeneto
    Allegrini

The Allegrini winery, with its headquarters and vineyards in Fumane, and other vineyards in the municipalities of Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro are among the leading wine producers of Valpolicella Classica. The farm belongs to the family of the same name, which has been rooted in the area since the 16th century. The drops available on the market at reasonable prices are an expression of the history of the Valpolicella Classico area. Marilisa, Franco and Silvia, near Verona, cultivate more than a hundred hectares of their own vineyards in a picturesque setting, with great sensitivity and respect for the local wine-growing traditions. The wines, full of character and ranking at the highest level, are made exclusively from strictly selected grapes full of fragrance and elegance.

In the course of time, radical innovations in viticulture, but also in the air-drying technique of the grapes and the oenological processes in the barrel cellar were introduced in the old-established company in Veneto. The owners always had the goal in mind to get the best out of the Valpolicella's trusted quality potential. The result of Allegrini's long research activities are soft, sensual and fruity wines at world level, with the famous Amarone at the top.

Most of the historic vineyards, some of which are still built with dry stone walls, are located in the most representative areas of the Valpolicella valley. One of these is Palazzo della Torre, named after a magnificent Renaissance building acquired by the family. The soils are rich in clay and the microclimate is perfect. The legendary La Grola vineyard in the Mazzurega zone, acquired by father Giovanni, is also of considerable value, with its volcanic origins and ideal climate for growing the red varieties Corvina Veronese and Rondinella. Also the vineyard La Poja belongs to the best sites of the whole Valpolicella area. The Allegrini family has carefully studied the climatic differences and the specific characteristics of each plot of land. It has proved to be right to rehabilitate very old and poorly planted vineyards. However, not all vineyards in the estate use modern espalier planting in the Guyot system. For older sticks the traditional pergola education is maintained.

The Allegrini family passes on from generation to generation their profound knowledge of viticulture and the production of the finest wines. Fumane is constantly being experimented with and modernised. All important wine critics agree in their opinion: The Azienda Agricola Allegrini ranks among the absolute top of the Italian wine world. In the 2016 edition of the prestigious Italian wine guide Gambero RossoAllegrini was awarded the title 'Winery of the year' was awarded. SUPERIORE.DE

"This company has contributed a great deal to the international reputation of Amarone, since the high quality of the wines is complemented by reasonable prices and a close-meshed distribution."Gambero Rosso
