    • Valpolicella DOC 2017

      Valpolicella DOC 2017

This traditional cuvée, faithful to the terroir, typical of the variety, with a smooth body and delicate fruit, will delight you even in its youth. The ripe fruit and the richness of the three classic vineyards can be tasted when pressed from excellent grapes. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate waterline. Inviting scent of red berry jam, ripe cherries and plums, a hint of meadow herbs, orange zest, attractive bouquet. Juicy, good complexity, fruit sweetness after raspberries in the finish, salty-mineral, stays well, fresh drinking flow." Falstaff

"Complexity on the nose with dark plum and berry fruit characters. Bright, fresh and leafy, there is plenty to like here. Not complicated, but a Valpolicella with good weight and extra layers of flavour, finishing with a little green edge to the tannins." Decanter

"This is so fragrant with sour-cherry and tart-plum aromas, plus some floral notes. A shade riper than usual, but with all the freshness and the moderately dry tannins that you expect. Long, clean and dry finish." James Suckling

“La Grola” Rosso Veronese IGT 2016 · Artist Label “Hiroyuki Masuyama“

La Grola is the historic vineyard that gave its name to Corvina, the autochthonous grape of Valpolicella, which is probably its origin. The replanting of the vineyard by Giovanni Allegrini sparked an agronomic revolution and laid the foundations for the success of this wine-growing area, which today is home to great red wines from north-eastern Italy.

So it is not surprising that La Grola receives a special honour from its magnificent location. Since 2010, Allegrini has been collaborating with internationally renowned artists, publishing year after year a unique, limited artist edition. The edition opened with a work by Milo Manara, continued in 2011 with a label designed by Arthur Duff and continued in 2012 with a painting by Athos Faccincani. The composition VI by Wassily Kandinsky was selected for La Grola in 2013, and in 2014 the artistic journey went to Brazil and to Nazareno Rodrigues Alves, before returning to Italy with the 2015 edition to Leonardo Ulian.

The 2016 vintage was interpreted by a great Japanese artist: Hiroyuki Masuyama. In a highly innovative process, La Grola's Limited Edition ennobles the fascinating synthesis of overlapping shots. A total of 288 photographs are incorporated into this work, showing one of the legendary vineyards of Valpolicella from an exciting and completely new perspective. Time and space are the fundamental elements of Hiroyuki Masuyama's overall creativity: everything revolves around these two concepts, which have been formalised differently over the years and have become the hallmark of his work. Masuyama combines and overlaps the result of hundreds of photographs taken of his subject from a fixed angle. The result of this superimposition is another image of the same place.

We are pleased to be able to offer you some copies of the special edition, which is strictly limited every year!

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2014

Classic Amarone from an excellent vintage. Strong garnet red colour, the bouquet is reminiscent of dried fruits and subtle spices. The taste is full and velvety with hints of cherry and vanilla. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark, rich ruby red with slightly brightening violet edge. Sublime scent of very ripe blackberries, sugar strawberries, filigree sweet wood, looks extremely elegant. It opens on the palate only slowly, then with a lot of fruitiness, also spicy nuances in the middle part, extremely polished and compact, ends salty and clear in the finale". Falstaff

"A warmly spiced nose of plum liqueur, roasting herbs, chestnuts, fruit cake, dried figs, cedar, tobacco, baking spices, treacle and toasted oak. Full-bodied with some sweetness, round tannins, a pretty serving of acidity and a long finish." James Suckling

"A fresh, creamy, medium- to full-bodied red, with fine, supple tannins layered with flavors of crushed black raspberry, fig cake and spiced orange, offering a subtle, savory underpinning of smoky mineral and tobacco that lingers on the finish. Long and elegant." Wine Spectator

"Exotic spice, mature black-skinned fruit, espresso and French oak are just some of the aromas you'll find on this delicious, full-bodied red. Boasting an enviable combination of concentrated flavors and elegance, it delivers flavors of ripe black cherry, prune steeped in spirits, vanilla bean and licorice framed by enveloping fine-grained tannins. In contrast to the works of previous years, which were specially made for the icon wine, the 2013 vintage is the first to bear an existing, internationally renowned work. With the kind permission of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, La Grola bears the "Composition VI" by Wassily Kandinsky in 2013. Kandinsky is one of the great masters of abstract painting. He was an artist of Expressionism and one of the pioneers of abstract art. And here we can clearly see the connection between artist and wine, because both Kandinsky and Allegrini are visionaries in their fields.

"More cabernet coming out on the nose with dark berries and light chocolate. Full body, lightly chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows length and intensity." James Suckling

"The 2013 La Grola represents a blend of 90% Corvina Veronese and 10% Oseleta. Past editions saw a small part Syrah but this is no longer the case. The wine's appearance is rich and deeply saturated with an inky black color. The bouquet revs up slowly with black prune and plum followed by spice, tar, road paving and cured meat. The effect is extra thick and dense. In the mouth, La Grola displays syrupy richness with both savory and slightly sweet mahogany spice. The wine rests in once-used barrique for 16 months." His graceful and very detailed naturalistic drawings show the animals that live in the vineyards and are without doubt the best witnesses of the meticulous work of the Allegrini family. The work deals with the rebirth of life and the diverse presence of wildlife, protected by sustainable agriculture.

We are pleased to be able to offer you some copies of the special edition, which is strictly limited every year!

Dense, dark ruby red, in the nose very full-bodied and strong with tones of forest and overripe berries. The rich fullness from coffee to black cherries is accompanied by present, pleasant tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"A linear and tight red with a berry and hazelnut character. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh, clean finish." James Suckling

"Delicate notes of woodsy spice and underbrush lace this chewy, medium- to full-bodied red, layered with dark and brambly black currant and blackberry fruit. Shows good focus and subtle power in a harmonious package." Wine Spectator

"This savory wine bursts with plum, cassis and chocolate aromas that follow through to the taut, elegant palate alongside hints of bell pepper and black pepper. It's fresh and still tightly wound, with firm, velvety tannins." Wine Enthusiast

    Allegrini

The Allegrini winery, with its headquarters and vineyards in Fumane, and other vineyards in the municipalities of Sant'Ambrogio and San Pietro are among the leading wine producers of Valpolicella Classica. The farm belongs to the family of the same name, which has been rooted in the area since the 16th century. The drops available on the market at reasonable prices are an expression of the history of the Valpolicella Classico area. Marilisa, Franco and Silvia, near Verona, cultivate more than a hundred hectares of their own vineyards in a picturesque setting, with great sensitivity and respect for the local wine-growing traditions. The wines, full of character and ranking at the highest level, are made exclusively from strictly selected grapes full of fragrance and elegance.

In the course of time, radical innovations in viticulture, but also in the air-drying technique of the grapes and the oenological processes in the barrel cellar were introduced in the old-established company in Veneto. The owners always had the goal in mind to get the best out of the Valpolicella's trusted quality potential. The result of Allegrini's long research activities are soft, sensual and fruity wines at world level, with the famous Amarone at the top.

Most of the historic vineyards, some of which are still built with dry stone walls, are located in the most representative areas of the Valpolicella valley. One of these is Palazzo della Torre, named after a magnificent Renaissance building acquired by the family. The soils are rich in clay and the microclimate is perfect. The legendary La Grola vineyard in the Mazzurega zone, acquired by father Giovanni, is also of considerable value, with its volcanic origins and ideal climate for growing the red varieties Corvina Veronese and Rondinella. Also the vineyard La Poja belongs to the best sites of the whole Valpolicella area. The Allegrini family has carefully studied the climatic differences and the specific characteristics of each plot of land. It has proved to be right to rehabilitate very old and poorly planted vineyards. However, not all vineyards in the estate use modern espalier planting in the Guyot system. For older sticks the traditional pergola education is maintained.

The Allegrini family passes on from generation to generation their profound knowledge of viticulture and the production of the finest wines. Fumane is constantly being experimented with and modernised. All important wine critics agree in their opinion: The Azienda Agricola Allegrini ranks among the absolute top of the Italian wine world. In the 2016 edition of the prestigious Italian wine guide Gambero RossoAllegrini was awarded the title 'Winery of the year' was awarded. SUPERIORE.DE

"This company has contributed a great deal to the international reputation of Amarone, since the high quality of the wines is complemented by reasonable prices and a close-meshed distribution."Gambero Rosso
