“Dindarello” Bianco Passito Veneto IGT 2022 dolce
This still Muscat, conceived as the "little brother" of the Torcolato and Acininobili, is a masterpiece and proves once again that Fausto Maculan is one of the world's best producers of dessert wines. Dindarello scores with a bouquet of peaches, elderberries and aromatic herbs. These aromas accompany the wonderfully full taste until the finish. Its perfect balance between sweetness and acidity will ennoble any finish to a meal. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Dindarello 2022 (Moscato) enchants with a whimsical blend of peach sorbet, kiwi and fresh mint. It is round and smooth with a balanced inner sweetness that complements its notes of candied lime, while tropical flowers cascade through on the inside. The finish is unexpectedly long, leaving a slight chewy sensation as the notes of sour melon slowly fade away. The 2022 is a real beauty." Vinous
"A lovely sweet moscato that offers aromas of ripe melon, delicate toffee apple and flowers. Nicely compact flavors on the medium-bodied palate and just the right balance to prolong the pleasure." James Suckling

“Flor” Vernaccia di Oristano DOC 2019 secco
This masterly Vernaccia matures for 4 years in small Caratello barrels, whose natural shrinkage is never refilled so that the yeast flor, which is very characteristic of this Vernaccia, forms on the surface and not only produces the characteristic aromas, but is also the eponym here.
Bright ochre yellow with golden reflections. Rich, complex bouquet of apricot and orange zest, rounded off by a delicate almond scent and warm honey notes. A wonderful texture and freshness on the palate, the yellow-fruity primary aromas are present, joined by a fine salty vein with a mineral note on the finish. Chilled as an aperitif or at approx. 16°C with dessert, an absolute delight! SUPERIORE.DE
"An unprecedented and unforgettable Vernaccia, with a production process of great refinement, one of the pinnacles of island wine. Nose with complex notes, apricot, toasted walnut, orange blossom and orange peel, palate of magnetic crispness." Luca Gardini

"Closed in a small 500-milliliter bottle with a glass cork, the Pellegrino 1880 2021 Passito di Pantelleria Nes is made from air-dried Zibibbo grapes. Recioto di Soave Classico DOCG 2019 dolce
This white dessert wine with DOCG status consists of 100% Garganega, its grapes come from selected volcanic plots of the Costeggiola vineyard in Soave, where the grapes are virtually predestined for drying due to the high age of the vines (22 to 50 years) and the thus very manageable yield. This takes place for three to five months in the "fruttaio", the subsequent ageing of the wine takes place for 30 months in stainless steel tanks and 5 hl wooden barrels.
Very concentrated nose of stone fruit, lemon zest and honey. Then opulent on the palate with a good balance of sweetness and acidity - overall, this dessert wine is very fresh and rounded, making it an excellent companion to not-too-sweet desserts and perfectly matured soft cheeses. Just 2,666 numbered bottles go on sale with each vintage. SUPERIORE.DE

“La Bella Estate” Moscato Passito Piemonte DOC 2019 dolce
La Bella Estate (The Beautiful Summer) is named after a work by Cesare Pavese. Strong golden yellow with an opulent aroma of candied fruit, nutmeg and vanilla. Warm and full on the palate, always in the foreground the floral sweetness of the Muscat grape with an optimally dosed acidity framework.
There are over 20 years of experience in this Moscato Passito. "Over time," explains the company's president, Piero Quadrumolo, "we have managed to find an optimal balance with the aim of obtaining an aromatic wine with clear varietal typicality of a Moscato, which does not appear too broad or boring and which also has good acidity." Today, just 15,000 bottles are bottled per vintage, most of which are delivered directly to the haute cuisine of Piedmont. SUPERIORE.DE

“Torcolato” Breganze DOC 2020 dolce
This famous sweet wine is made from strictly selected grapes that have been dried for five months. It has been one of the best sweet wines in Italy for decades. Aromas of dried apricots, white truffle, honey and sage on the nose, virtuoso and exotic on the palate. Class and elegance with a great value and an excellent ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Despite the dark amber color, this is by no means a syrupy sweetie. In fact, the palate pulls you into a much brighter and more complex zone, offering salty toffee, dried apricot, zesty lime and papaya. More if you linger. Full and silky with exquisite balance, squeezing out every interest possible on the long, tight finish." James Suckling
"The 2020 Torcolato is impossible to ignore, busting from the glass with a rich blend of peach preserves, dried nectarines, spiced ginger cookies and cloves. It’s racy and energetic, with silky textures accelerated by a core of vibrant acidity and salty mineral tones that create a sweet and savory interplay within. The 2020 finishes with remarkable length and potency yet maintains a lovely freshness, leaving nuances of exotic citrus and wild inner florals to linger. The Torcolato is produced from botrytized Vespaiola grapes aged in French oak barrels, a third new. Simply stunning." Vinous

Recioto della Valpolicella DOCG 2019 dolce
Brigaldara's Recioto presents itself wonderfully with a warm aroma spectrum of pickled cherries, roses, herbs and traces of honey. It shows its true class on the palate: wonderfully balanced with its fruit-acid play and never dominant sweetness, it presents distinctive notes of small dark berries, creamy spicy aromas and dark chocolate until a never-ending, warming finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Full-bodied with lots of sweet crushed blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, together with macadamia nuts and red licorice-like notes. The fine tannins add structure and density. Finishes quite firm." James Suckling
"Savory herbs, earth tones and crushed stone give way to lifting hints of mint and camphor as the 2019 Recioto della Valpolicella opens in the glass. This is less about fruit and more about depth and character, as a dense wave of balsam herbs and exotic spices rushes the palate. There is a lovely inner sweetness with zesty acids to balance and saline-minerals that create a salty-sweet expression. It’s incredibly long, adding vivid black cherries, blackberry preserves and hints of mint. The 2019 is a total wine of meditation." Vinous

The Italians have a very special love for sweet and dessert wines. They'd rather have ice wine. Because this is hardly possible in Italy, however, they developed a whole host of different processes to produce an excellent Vino Dolce.
Good Italian dessert wines are seldom bought, because the often very small production quantity is mostly drunk in one's own country. Exceptions confirm the rule.
DESSERT WINE FROM ITALY: VIN SANTO, MOSCATO, PASSITO, RECIOTO OR VINO DOLCE.
If one visits an Italian winegrower in late autumn, one is often taken to the room where the grapes are hung up for drying. They are at least as proud of this as they are of the new bottling line.
The grapes dry on cords hanging individually from each other or laid loosely next to each other on reeds and always in well ventilated rooms or even in the attic, so that no rot develops. These dried (Botrytis) grapes are then used to make Vin Santo, Passito, Recioto or simply a Vino Dolce, depending on the region.
POPULAR GRAPE VARIETIES FOR THE ITALIAN DESSERT WINE
The most popular varieties for Italian dessert wine are Moscato, Moscadello, Trebbiano, Malvasia and the autochthon specialities Picolit (Friuli) and Zibbibo (Sicily: here come the best like Donnafugata's famous Ben Ryé from the island of Pantelleria). Recioto della Valpolicella is an internationally popular sweet-herbal red wine made from the grape varieties of Amarone (Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella). SUPERIORE.DE
