“Bianco di Riecine” Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
The grapes for this exciting, mash-fermented Trebbiano come from the vineyards that the Dunkleys (former owners of the winery) found when they arrived in Gaiole in Chianti. They are destemmed and fermented in Cocciopesto amphorae. Once fermentation is complete, most of the wine remains on the skins for six months, while a small portion (10-15%) is aged without skins for the same amount of time in new 500 Liters tonneaux. Rich orange-yellow. In the slightly reductive bouquet notes of apple compote, citrus and pear. Very fruity on the palate, with a striking acidity and beautiful tannin. Medium-bodied and long, very exciting and drinky! SUPERIORE.DE

Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM
Dense with complex fruit notes, lots of extract, soft, mouth-filling, unusually velvety and enveloped by gentle tannins. Aged in small barriques of old and new oak and in traditional Tuscan wooden barrels. For years, Riecine has been producing one of the most subtle Chianti Classico - a wonderful drop. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red. In the nose spicy at first, then something like sealing wax, not quite clear, some cranberry and rosehip. On the palate with cool fruit and nice juice, crisp and with fine vegetal spice, light on its feet, high drinking flow, good length to boot." Falstaff
"Mid crimson. Lifted, sweet, perfumed red-fruit nose. A little embryonic with vivid acidity and richly tannic on the finish. Long and gripping." Jancis Robinson
"The 2020 Chianti Classico is bright, punchy and full of character. Crushed rose petals, tobacco and sweet red berry fruit are nicely lifted in this delicious, mid-weight Chianti Classico from Riecine. The 2020 is beautifully done." Vinous
"Juicy, showing cherry and raspberry fruit, with hints of licorice, earth and mint. Balanced, firming up on the refreshing finish." Wine Spectator
"With vineyards between 400 and 600 metres above sea level in the commune of Gaiole, Riecine’s 2020 wears its high-altitude origins on its sleeve. Veraison started very late here, then ripening occurred quickly – within a couple of weeks. What this may lack in body, it makes up for in liveliness and expression. Scents of mint blossom, fresh thyme and tarragon greet the nose. The palate is streamlined and elegant, with red currant and plum, barely-there tannins and punchy integrated acidity. It's also refreshingly moderate in alcohol, clocking in at barely 13%." Decanter
"The wine is all Sangiovese with fruit selected from across 12 hectares with schist galestro clay soils. It is simple and bright with wild fruit, bramble and white pepper. Those somewhat wild aromas are very specific to Gaiole in Chianti, especially this corner of the subzone near the village, after which it takes its name. This cool growing site makes sharp and elegant Sangiovese." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of sweet cherries, cranberries and flowers follow through to a medium body with bright acidity and a clean, fresh finish. Crisp and bright at the end. Plenty of attractive energy." James Suckling
"The usual stylistic approach of Riecine, in a faceted vintage. Nose with notes of carob, touches of black mulberry and laurel. To the palate tension and crunchiness, savory tannins, return of small black fruits, officinal sensations, with citrus nuances." Luca Gardini

“La Gioia” Toscana Rosso IGT 2018

"Dark ruby red. Opens on the nose on juicy cherries, some plums, plus fine earthy tones and lots of pepper. Very tightly woven on the palate with juicy tannin, punchy, builds in many layers, elegant and distinctive, long, present final. " Falstaff
"Plush and racy, with soft curves and striking balance, the 2018 offers up sweet plum, cherry, rose petal, licorice and lavender. Ripe, silky tannins wrap it all together in style. This plush red has a ton to offer." Vinous
"The Riecine 2018 La Gioia is 95% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot made from a selection of the best fruit from high-elevation vineyards ranging from 480 to 600 meters above sea level. Dark fruit, sweet cherry and spice appear over medium-rich concentration. You get more sweet fruit on the finish, and the wine produces attractive freshness. That small component of Merlot goes a long way to shape this wine's fruit-forward personality. Production is 5,000 bottles." Wine Advocate

“Tresette” Merlot Toscana IGT 2016
This is the first vintage of the new pure Merlot of the house. The name Tresette is derived from the fact that there will be just 2,800 bottles of this wine, which will be aged in three 700l French oak barrels. The grapes come from old vines from a 480m high plot and it is only vinified in the best years. Tresette is a cool, archetypal Merlot of the very elegant type and is completely in keeping with the style of the house. Juicy blackberry, in the nose clove, herbs and spice notes. Wrapped in smooth tannins, this fresh red leads to a delicious finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"From a vineyard of only 0.7 hectares at 480 metres above sea level, matures for 20 months in 7 hectolitre barrels: Seductive blackberry aroma, underlaid with notes of liquorice; juicy in the mouth, the tannins and acidity in harmony, elegant and polished final. Convincing." Vinum
" Firm, quite deep, slightly iodine scent of black currant and red berries with herbal aromas, some nuts, blood, black olives and moderate wood spice as well as mineral notes. Firm, ripe, tart, yet extremely juicy fruit, tight, quite fine tannin and a certain acid bite, persistent on the palate, herbal and planty notes, a hint of pepper, clear, salty and chalky minerality, has power, but also freshness and cooling elements, noble spice, very lively, multi-layered and deep, very good, tight, juicy and finely spicy finish. Great." Wein-Plus
"Named after the Italian card game, the 2016 TreSette (777) is a pure expression of Merlot from old vines. Only 2,800 bottles were made. Riecine's La Gioia once had Merlot in the blend, but it was removed to make this wine instead. This wine offers a generous bouquet with blackcurrant and cherry. However, the high altitudes of the vineyards shape crisp and acidic fruit that is very evident in this slightly cooler vintage." Wine Advocate
"This is a pretty wild and amazing on the nose with crystal-clear aromas of lavender, before the bay leaves, Thai basil, cloves and a touch of vanilla come into play. Medium to full body, incredibly edgy acidity and layer after layer of pure blue fruits. An outstanding wine with few parallels in Italy. One of a kind." James Suckling

“Vigna Gittori” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
Here it is, the impressive first Gran Selezione from Riecine, showing more grace than muscle and delivering a Riecine-typical and very precise Burgundian interpretation of the Sangiovese grape.
The grapes come from the single vineyard of the same name in a 2.25 hectare Chianti Classico vineyard planted in 1971 with a density of 3,400 vines per hectare and situated on old terraces facing south. Riecine has leased these plots since the 1980s, and now the winery has managed to purchase this site, which is one of the best terroirs in the Chianti Classico area. So it is only logical that the 50th anniversary of the winery and the outstanding 2019 vintage should mark the debut of the new top wine. The bottles are numbered, just 3,233 0.Liters and 50 magnum bottles were bottled.
Spicy bouquet, delicate accents of vanilla and toasted bread that combine with notes of cherry, strawberry and violet. Rich in the mouth, with a solid structure and a long, polished final characterised by fruit, Mediterranean grass and a mineral note. Develops wonderfully - and should be one of the best Gran Selezione of the vintage "right off the bat". Congratulations on the anniversary! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red with a gently brightening rim. Expressive nose, clear, initially of fine wild strawberries and some raspberries, red currants and delicate vegetal aromas in the aftertaste. Shows extremely elegant and polished on the palate, with tightly meshed, pithy tannin, very juicy on the back end, with minimally persistent tannin." Falstaff
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Gittori is a plump, juicy wine. Black cherry, leather, incense, tobacco and dried herbs meld together nicely in this attractive, curvy Gran Selezione. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2019 shows terrific depth and fine overall balance." Vinous
"Here is a new and exciting submission from Riecine in Gaiole in Chianti. The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Gittori is being released as a special way of commemorating the estate's 50th anniversary. The number 50 appears on the front label. This top-end wine comes off with dark fruit, austere spice and dry wood. Those are the aromas; however, the wine is surprisingly soft and silky in texture. It's a nice dual effect. 3,233 bottles and 50 magnums were released." Wine Advocate
"Blackberry, orange-peel and Spanish-cedar aromas. Exotic fruit, too. Full-bodied with seamless tannins and a very, very long finish. A benchmark Gran Selezione. Structured, yet fine at the same time." James Suckling
"Riecine's first ever Gran Selezione is a true beauty. It comes from the Gittori vineyard, a south-facing plot which sits above 500 metres, planted in 1971 - after renting it for 20 years, the estate was finally able to purchase it in 2019. The nose shows pure, precise fragrances of rose, wildflower, raspberry and spice. Fruit is at the fore, with integrated oak in the background – simply there to support. Youthfully plump and joyful at the moment, the succulent acidity and silky tannins bring vibrancy and alluring texture respectively. It has the depth and complexity worthy of Gran Selezione and is a glorious demonstration that the category isn't solely reserved for muscle-bound powerhouses." Decanter

Pure Burgundian elegance and Tuscan spice. A Sangiovese in Riserva quality that convinces in its long, continuous course with tasty fruit and carefully extracted tannin. Light ruby with garnet red reflections. Clear nose with notes of pomegranate, raspberry and some saffron. Fresh, juicy and superbly unadulterated on the finish and with great storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very light ruby red with brightening rim. Fragrant and expressive nose, with noble vegetal nuances of geranium and fresh wild strawberries, plus freshly ground pepper. Shows beautiful fruit sweetness on the palate with elegant, juicy course, pithy juicy tannin accompanies the drink, exciting and salty in the final, very high drinking flow, positively dangerous!" Falstaff
"The 2019 Riecine di Riecine shows wild fruit over a streamlined approach with lots of freshly milled pepper, both white and black. The wine obviously flaunts its cool-climate origins and offers an interesting interpretation of the grape in which freshness is front and center." Wine Advocate
"A relatively light color, with fresh flowers, sweet peaches and cherries on the nose. Medium body with dried flowers and stems, very fine tannins and a dried-citrus finish. A subtle yet intense interpretation of sangiovese." James Suckling
"The 2019 Riecine di Riecine, 100% Sangiovese, is a very pretty, classy wine. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint and orange peel give this translucent, expressive 2019 lovely complexity and nuance to match its mid-weight personality." Vinous

“Tresette” Merlot Toscana IGT 2016 · MAGNUM in OWC
This is the first vintage of the new pure Merlot of the house. The name Tresette is derived from the fact that there will be just 2,800 bottles of this wine, which will be aged in three 700l French oak barrels. The grapes come from old vines from a 480m high plot of land, and it is only vinified in the best years.

“Vigna Gittori” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM

“La Gioia” Toscana Rosso IGT 2016 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Genuine expression of Sangiovese, terroir and the typical Riecine style, which is based above all on elegance. Deep, sparkling colour, complex, animating scent of small red berries and corresponding persistence in taste. An impressive wine with the finesse of a great Sangiovese. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Appealing nose with notes of pomegranate, cherry and spicy thyme. Round and polished at the base, shows very well worked out fruit, present and at the same time tender, then opens up with lots of handy tannin." Falstaff
"A pure expression of Sangiovese, the 2016 La Gioia is a beauty. Off the bat, the wine shows a specific mineral note that reminds me of black stone or dusty granite. Beyond that, you get a thick and dense layer of black fruit and plum. The wine is never heavy or flat, instead it shows a lot of energy and freshness with a point of spiciness on the close. That energy is typical of Gaiole in Chianti. This is a medium-to-full bodied Sangiovese with all its various moving parts in harmony, ready for a Tuscan bean and tomato stew with fresh bread and healthy wedges of pecorino." Wine Advocate
"This is a powerful red with beautiful ripe tannins and freshness. Full and linear. Opens in the mouth. A pure sangiovese. Yeah!" James Suckling

Unadulterated expression of Sangiovese, terroir and the typical Riecine style, based above all on elegance. Deep, sparkling colour, complex, animating aroma of small red berries and corresponding persistence on the palate. An impressive wine with the finesse of a great Sangiovese. SUPERIORE.DE

The Riecine winery is one of the pearls of Chianti Classico and has become a legend after just 40 years. In the year 1112 the name was probably mentioned for the first time in a document of the nearby monastery. It took until 1971 before the late Briton John Dunkley bought the property with a piece of land above Gaiole. He brought the first bottled wine to the market seven years later. He immediately became a success.
Dunkley, who was regarded as an advocate of the highest quality standards, quickly brought his property to world fame. In 1996, the Riecine estate became the property of the American Gary J. Baumann, who sold it 16 years later to a family of investors who did not wish to be named.
Riecine stands for very authentic and genuine wines of the region. From a stylistic point of view, the estate, with its well-founded classical approach, occupies an exceptional position in Tuscany. The enormous success is above all due to the farsightedness of the oenologist and production manager Sean O'Callaghan. He has developed a personal style that does not always fully correspond to the Chianti tradition, but is innovative.
Sangiovese is the only grape variety used, and its successor, the world-famous oenologist Carlo Ferrini (from 2017), remains faithful to it. Riecine's grape material is of the highest quality. When processing the berries, sensitive interpretation is more important than sober technical know-how. The results of this loving work are graceful delicacies offered at fair prices, free from fashionable overripe flavours, fat fruit or dry tannins. The wines are therefore celebrated again and again by the specialist press.
The biodynamic vineyards are located in different areas of Chianti Classico. Some vineyards are located just behind the winery, others are in Vertine and La Casina, or are already part of Montecucco. Following the purchase of land from neighbouring estates in spring 2013 and the letting of some vineyards, 15 hectares of vineyards are currently being used for production at Riecine Estate. SUPERIORE.DE
"With competence and prudence Sean O'Callaghan has set up an elite vine school here with an affiliated wine-making centre, from which Sangiovese champs full of character regularly emerge."Gambero Rosso
