      “Dainero” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Brilliant ruby red. Fresh bouquet of red flowers and berries with smoky hints. At the palate fresh, the dark fruit long and lively, great acid structure. SUPERIORE.DE

"Loads of primary fruit showing now, set very much in the essence-zone with cherry compote, violet perfume and blackberry purée. The palate shows good depth and composition, though, a firm layering of tannins carrying darkly spiced fruit long and vivid, thanks to refreshing acidity." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

Deep dark ruby red. The 2015 is masterfully reflected in this wonderfully proportioned Brunello. Very straightforward and generous nose of small red berries, cherry, graphite and earth notes. On the palate, rich, very fruit-driven and endowed with a beguiling melt. The perfectly balanced concert of extract sweetness, multilayered, deep fruit, well articulated acid wire and a finely woven tannin make this parade Brunello an experience that lasts long and intense. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby red. Fragrant, open-hearted nose of rose hips and wild strawberries, delicate cassis, savory and inviting. Polished palate, elegant use of wood, high drinking flow, very juicy, also salty, compact in attack and course." Falstaff

"Tightly wound, with tart cherry, graphite, earth and cigar box flavors, aligned to an edge of firm tannins. Flirts with rusticity, yet remains tense and smoldering. Should gain more length as it opens." Wine Spectator

"Good deep red. Complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, graphite, mocha, and mint. Focused and suave with very attractive sweetness and standout purity to its flavors of red berries and candied flowers. Finishes with polished tannins and outstanding length." Vinous

"This pretty wine shows precision and focus with a rich, fruit-forward style. The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is a shapely Tuscan red with the softness and velvety intensity to pair with a winter meat dish by an open fireplace. The wine glides smoothly over the palate, imparting aromas of black cherry, dried blackberry, plum, toasted spice and crushed flower. This harvest, which came about a week earlier than expected, resulted in a measured and carefully balanced Sangiovese from a generous vintage." Robert Parker

"Wonderful aromas of flowers, plums, terracotta and white pepper. Intense, yet ever so subtle. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and intense finish. Shows excellent length." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016

A picture-book Brunello from a picture-book vintage: Wonderfully cherry-accented bouquet with hints of violet blossoms, clove, cigar box and a pleasant spicy sweetness. Dense and expressive on the palate, it opens vibrantly and multilayered and then reveals a wonderful load of black cherry, exotic spices and a fine salty vein. The perfectly balanced tannin always provides the necessary balance and gives it a racy, very long finish with its exceedingly refined flavour components. SUPERIORE.DE

"A wild and unbridled version, as much about the woodsy pine, wild herb and iron flavors as the brooding black cherry and blueberry fruit. Long and resonant, with muscular tannins and lively acidity lending support." Wine Spectator

"The Castiglion del Bosco 2016 Brunello di Montalcino is a fruit-forward expression with soft cherry, blackberry, tilled earth and a touch of sweet spice. This wine is made in an especially accessible style that prizes ripe fruit and oak aging (in both barrique and botte). Fruit comes from a 52-hectare vineyard with galestro schist and clay. The tannins are more evident here compared to the 2015 vintage; however, this wine is almost ready to go with beef tagliata topped with porcini mushrooms." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino really stands out with its vivid display of crushed raspberries, lavender and clove. Further depths are found with each swirl, adding mentholated herbs and flowery undergrowth. It's dense and dark-fruited, enveloping the palate with notes of black cherry, plum, exotic savory spice and minerals. This is soothing and pliant in spite of the 2016's youthful state, balancing brisk acids and fine tannins to create a push and pull of structural tension. The symmetry here is spellbinding, and everything is in the right place for a long and fruitful evolution over the next ten to fifteen years." Vinous

"The complexity and beauty to this is really something with cherry, walnut, tobacco and cigar-box character. Sweet cherries. It's full-bodied and deep with super intensity and power. Layered and beautiful. Really refined tannins. Some whole-berry fermentation gives this added character. Goes on for minutes." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Campo del Drago" DOCG 2016

Brunello di Montalcino “Campo del Drago” DOCG 2016

Campo del Drago is a single vineyard of just 1.5 ha and is situated on a high plateau in the Montalcino appellation with a view of the Thyrrenian Sea. The grapes from here are only vinified separately in the best years to produce the Brunello of the same name, and the result is then eagerly awaited about 5 years later.

Those who still feel the 2015 on the palate will recognise the difference to the current and undoubtedly great 2016 vintage. Here, Campo del Drago comes in a more aristocratic guise, the motto being: less is more. In addition to a precisely developed fruity note, the bouquet plays with smoky and herbal aromas, which are more discreet and subtle than in the more opulent 2015 edition. After some aeration, it convinces with a lot of melting, but does not deny the acidity typical of Sangiovese. As it progresses, the fruit is full and kept in check by the perfectly flanking and present tannin. We feel this irrepressible power and complexity and know that with further bottle ageing it will give way to an elegance that makes this refined wine a worthy representative of this great vintage. As is so often the case, patience is rewarded! SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Campo del Drago places smoky minerals and minty herbs before fruit. It gains further depths of spiced orange, clove and medicinal cherry over time. The textures are silky, almost creamy in feel, giving way to polished red fruits laced with salty minerals, as zesty acids add a motivating and spicy flair. Stern tannins arrive toward the close, clamping down on the expression and leaving only hints of tart berries through the cheek-puckering finale. The 2016 Campo del Drago will require a good amount of time to resolve its hulking structure, yet there's plenty of concentration and acidity to maintain balance throughout." Vinous

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Campo del Drago comes from a little vineyard measuring just 1.5 hectares. It is located at a high 450 meters above sea level, and what this parcel lacks in size, it makes up for in terms of view and exposure. The entire Castiglion del Boco property is surrounded by thick shrub oak forests, as the very name of the estate suggests ("bosco" means "forest" in Italian), with wild boar, roe deer and foxes. You most certainly smell aromas of underbrush and forest floor in this wine along with dark fruit, cherry and plum." Robert Parker

"A balanced, expressive style, offering plum, cherry, fruitcake, iron and spice flavors, which are fused to muscular tannins, but also vibrant acidity, keeping this energetic and defined. Fine balance overall and terrific length on the finish." Wine Spectator

"Another structured, layered red with blackberry, plum, walnut and cigar-box aromas and flavors. It's full-bodied with depth and intensity. Tight and structured. A wine with a long future. Fine-grained and refined." James Suckling

About the winemakersCastiglion del BoscoTuscany | Montalcino
    Castiglion del Bosco

When the youngest son of the late shoe designer Salvatore Ferragamo is not busy with fine leather goods, he devotes himself to the production of one of Italy's most precious red wines. Massimo Ferragamo took over the historic Castiglion del Bosco estate in 2003, which made Tuscan wine history along with 25 other wineries when they created the Brunello di Montalcino consortium in 1967.

Today, the estate comprises 62 hectares of vineyards planted exclusively with Sangiovese, which grow south of Montalcino, amidst the ravishing UNESCO World Heritage landscape of the Val d'Orcia. Surrounding the estate are the ruins of an early Romanesque church and a 12th-century castle, which have been restored by the Ferragamo family with attention to detail and respect for tradition.

There are really few winery that can boast such a vital nature and such a rich past. Looking at the estate, the gently rolling vineyards and the paths shaded by cypress trees, one can understand Ferragamo's decision to buy in its entirety. What other reaction could there be to such an impressive landscape than the urge to preserve it and return it to its original beauty?

Every action in the vineyard is carried out according to organic-ecological standards. The vines, which are 300 to 450 metres high and mostly face southeast, benefit from the low humidity and the clayey subsoil. At the highest vineyard, Campo del Drago, on the other hand, the Sangiovese grows on rocky slate. Ferragamo's love for Tuscany is hard to miss when enjoying Rosso di Montalcino and the varietal Brunello wines.

"When I took over the Castiglion del Bosco winery, I imagined it as it actually looks today," says the Florentine-born Ferragamo. His modern wine cellar, designed for efficiency, is perfectly integrated into the hillside. Here, the hand-harvested grapes are made into elegant, long-lasting wines in the spirit of sustainability, with maximum respect for the environment.

The Ferragamo family's high quality standards and the reputation of Brunello di Montalcino form a perfect symbiosis. Thanks to Massimo and Chiara's dedication, the Castiglion del Bosco winery is now one of the largest and most respected Brunello producers in Tuscany. SUPERIORE.DE
