Rosso di Montepulciano DOC 2021
As always, the Rosso from Cerro is good and very drinkable. Smoky, spicy and chocolate notes in the pleasantly fruity bouquet, typical of the grape variety, juicy and persistent on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Radiant clear ruby red. Rich heart cherries adorn the nose, then black forest berries and delicate herbal spice. Discreet on the palate, distinctly soft tannin, harmonious, light-footed, juicy on the palate." Falstaff
"Some blueberry and black cherry with a steely edge. Medium body. Firm palate." James Suckling
"Like opening a fresh pack of violet candies, the 2021 Rosso di Montepulciano opens in the glass dusty and tinged with blue and purple floral perfumes. It washes across the palate, silky and pliant, with ripe wild berries and inner lavender tones. The finish is lightly tannic yet fresh, with a lingering candied blackberry note. " Vinous

“Silineo” Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2019
Rich and dense ruby red, open and accessible nose with beautiful blackberry fruit, light tea notes in the background. Also in the taste a beautiful fruit, reminiscent of ripe, dark cherries, then hearty tannin and a round finish. You simply can't get more classic Vino Nobile for this price. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep aromas of black cherries and herbs; juicy on the palate, the firm tannins form a symbiosis with the acidity, combines polish and character into the long final." Vinum
"Dark, powerful ruby. Shows emphatically fragrant notes of cedar, boxwood and pine needles on the nose, some lemon. Juicy fruit on the nose, then opens up with slightly drying tannin on the final." Falstaff
"The bouquet of the 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Silìneo opens as if chiseling into an ashen stone to find a mix of blackcurrants and exotic curries. It has a soft texture, is airier and more refined than expected, with juicy blackberry fruit accompanied by sour citrus and savoury herbal notes. Grippy tannins linger under hints of violet and lavender as the 2019 finishes structured but not austere. The Silìneo is mainly Sangiovese with a little Mammolo and Corolino." Vinous
"Aromas of ripe berries and cherries with vanilla undertones. It is full and juicy with a big palate and a creamy finish. Multi-layered, if a little old-fashioned." James Suckling

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG 2016
Wonderfully fragrant, fruity-floral bouquet. The taste is reminiscent of plums and cherries with a fine vanilla-spicy component and clear, very pleasant acidity and polished tannins. Clear fruit aromas, enormous velvety and a long finish emphasise the harmony of this Nobile Riserva. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich shining brown-red with minimal cloudiness. First smell of rich ripe cherry fruit, then rosehip and also juniper berries, then delicate leather spice in the background. Lively palate entry, stretches out a wide dress, compact and medium-bodied on the palate, tightens up a bit on the back end and finishes with some pressure on sweet fruit." Falstaff
"A medium-bodied, structured red with aromas and flavors of cloves, cedar and dried cherries. Hint of pine. Well integrated tannins. The oak spices blend in nicely." James Suckling
"The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is dark with arching violet-tinged florals, hints of plum and Tuscan dust. Its textures are silky, communicating undeniable elegance, with a polished display of mineral-tinged wild berries contrasted by hints of sour citrus. What balance, tapering off lightly structured, with a purple and blue-toned array of residual fruits and inner herbal tones lingering on and on. This is classic but in need of some time to fully come together. The Riserva hails from Fattoria del Cerro’s higher-elevation vineyards that contain a high percentage of pebbles, fossils and shells." With an annual output of one million bottles, the winery in the province of Siena is the largest private producer of Vino Nobile. The owner of the holding company Tenute del Cerro, the agricultural investment company Saiagricola of the insurance company Fondiaria, is the agricultural branch of the insurer taken over from its rival Unipol in 2012. This sector includes farms in Tuscany, Umbria and Piedmont, many of which are dedicated to viticulture.
Since its foundation, the estate, named after an ancient oak tree standing on the property, has made a very important contribution to the international spread of wines from Montepulciano. It is headed by Guido Sodano, General Manager of Saiagricola.
In the first decade of this century, the winery underwent an enormous restructuring in the vineyards, the cellar and the sales department. Of the 170 hectares planted with vines, 93 hectares alone are registered for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. In addition to the Sangiovese grape, the red varieties Merlot, Colorino and the rarely cultivated varieties Mammolo and Chardonnay are cultivated as white varieties. Since some areas are among the oldest and most important in the denomination, they have been selected for clone selection. Scientific research and development still play an important role in the Fattoria del Cerro today.
The vineyards reach an average altitude of 350 to 450 metres above sea level. The oldest of them are planted with only 3,300 plants per hectare, while the slopes planted in recent times have a density of 5,000 vines. The soils from the Pliocene are rich in shells and stones and contain clay. The Fattoria range, which alone includes three great Vino Nobile models, is without exception of very solid quality, so that renowned wine critics have already awarded top marks several times. The fine wines are sold at an unbeatable price-performance ratio.
Since the Fattoria del Cerro also has 13 hectares of olive groves, an extra virgin olive oil is produced here - as in all other wineries belonging to the Gruppo Fondiaria-Sai. Villa Grazianella also belongs to the property, a place of hospitality and relaxation for holidaymakers. SUPERIORE.DE
"What was started in 1978 as an oenological project with an uncertain outcome is today, more than 30 years later, one of the most important wineries of Montepulciano and the entire Italian viticulture."Gambero Rosso
