      “Core” Aglianico Campania IGT 2016

"Today we need lighter wines, they fit better to our hectic life", says the wise Silvia Imparato. And so we celebrate her second wine - an Aglianico with a fresh fruit scent and lively taste, elegant and complex without any trace of opulence. As we like it! SUPERIORE.DE

"Extremely well crafted with ultra-fine tannins and beautiful and subtle aromas and flavors of black fruit, black pepper and white pepper. Medium to full body. Polished and so enjoyable to taste. Can age beautifully." James Suckling

"Very deep purple-ruby; this is very dark for an Aglianico wine. Delicate on the nose and remarkably light on its feet, offering sweet blueberry, red cherry, sweet spice and floral flavors, similar to the aromas, that linger impressively on the juicy, long, clean finish. A knockout wine, and the best Aglianico ever from Montevetrano." Vinous

    • "Montevetrano" Rosso Colli di Salerno IGT 2017

“Montevetrano” Rosso Colli di Salerno IGT 2017

Silvia Imparato's noble Montevetrano is one of the first creations of the famous "flying oenologist" Riccardo Cotarella and certainly one of his most important to this day. Dark ruby red, filled with cherry and blackberry aromas with hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, it presents itself spicy, with elegant tannins, good structure and extraordinary distinctive finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Silvia Imparato is a leading lady of Campania wine. I visited her a few years back and have such a pleasant memory of her home, with beams of sunlight hitting the bright red tomatoes, lemons and basil plants sitting on the handmade ceramic tiles of her rustic kitchen countertop. Her elegant Montevetrano 2017 Montevetrano is a blend of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Aglianico and Merlot. From a hot and dry vintage, this expression shows rich concentration with black fruit, blackberry and cherry confit. Those dark fruit tones are nicely supplemented by spice and lightly cured tobacco." Robert Parker

"In the 2017 Montevetrano (Colli di Salerno)I find depths of crushed blue and blackberries, laced with minerals, sweet exotic spices, and cocoa powder, as dark, alluring floral tones pull me closer to the glass, offset by a hint of fresh mint leaf. It floods the palate with silky textures and cool-toned black fruits, as brisk acids carry the 2017 Montevetrano effortlessly across the senses, leaving a coating of savory spice, minerals, and fine tannin. The finish is long and structured, clenching the palate with youthful grip, as hints of black fruits fade to reveal echoes of violet florals. There's so much density on the palate, yet it is somehow lifted, seamless, and precise, with all the raw ingredients needed to evolve in the cellar over the next ten to twenty years. Gorgeous." Vinous

"Aromas and flavors of blackberries and blueberries with licorice and black-pepper. Medium to full body. Chewy, yet refined and balance. Another two or three years of bottle age would bring it more together." James Suckling

“Montevetrano” Rosso Colli di Salerno IGT 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC

Montevetrano is the wine that has become superlative: dark ruby-violet-red color, complex, powerful, very elegant fragrance, full of blackberries and currants with balsamic-spicy notes of laurel and black pepper. The taste is as elegant as the finesse, wide, extremely fine, full and warm, with a firm but at the same time soft tannin structure. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is a famous red that delivers depth and finesse. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a wonderful finish of blackberry, cocoa and spices including black peppercorns. One of the best Montevetranos in years." James Suckling

"Intense aromas of red-skinned berry, fragrant blue flower, Oriental spice and a whiff of graphite take center stage. The taut, chewy palate doles out Marasca cherry, blackberry, anise, mocha and a peppery note alongside bright acidity and polished, fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2013 Montevetrano was a little shut down when I tasted it. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 30% Aglianico starts off slowly but it does reach full speed with a few quick swirls of the glass. Some 30,000 bottles were made. The wine opens to a dark garnet color with thick concentration of dark pigments. The bouquet needs a little patience before it shows a complete bouquet of rose, spice, dark chocolate and dried blackberry aromas." Robert Parker

Silvia Imparato's noble Montevetrano is one of the first creatures of the famous "flying oenologist" Riccardo Cotarella and certainly one of his most important to this day. Dark ruby red, full of cherry and blackberry aromas with a hint of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate it is spicy, with elegant tannins, good structure and an extraordinary unmistakable aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fine-grained tannins sculpt crushed black cherry and cassis fruit flavors as they ripple on the palate of this harmonious, medium- to full-bodied red. Fresh and focused, with accents of black tea leaf, graphite and spice that gain momentum on the minerally finish." Wine Spectator

"Good full ruby-purple. Flint and aromatic herbs complicate dark plum and graphite on the nose and in the mouth. Savory herbs and a saline bite emerge on the long, taut finish. A refined version of Montevetrano that should age well." VINOUS

"The 2016 Montevetrano hits it out of the ballpark with beautiful intensity and lush richness that feels seamless and balanced. This is a celebrated blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Aglianico and 20% Merlot that delivers impressive characteristics that can be traced to each one of those grapes. You get the structure and the cherry-infused softness of the two French grapes with the dark fruit and the flinty crushed stone and spice of the native Aglianico grape. The vines are 20 years old on average and are planted in rich soils with plenty of rocky material. This wine is submitted to a careful 14 months in French barrique." Robert Parker

"Stunningly fresh nose of blackcurrants, blackberries and elderberries with myriad spice and herbal nuances. Breathtakingly fine tannins and great freshness packed into a sleek frame, the wine gliding over the palate gracefully as it heads out towards eternity. Delicious now, but with enormous aging potential." James Suckling

    About the winemakersMontevetranoCampania
    Montevetrano

"The most exciting thing is when I can taste a wine that I don't know anything about."says Silvia Imparato.

The pioneer in the Campanian wine world and owner of the magnificent Montevetrano winery, in earlier years she regularly had the opportunity to enjoy many of the lesser-known, but still magnificent, wines of the world. Only then did she decide to make her own wine on the small family estate in the province of Salerno together with the famous oenologist Riccardo Cotarella: This was the birth of Montevetrano. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Aglianico and sold year after year in modified blends, this wine has since conquered the hearts of wine lovers around the globe as one of the world's most famous cuvées.

Although Silvia's grandparents used to produce wine, fruit, nuts and olive oil for their own use, the trained photographer came to Rome in the 1980s at a wine tasting by chance. From an initial adventure with only a few thousand bottles produced, Montevetrano, a district of the municipality of San Cipriano Picentino, has become a top winery. Today, Azienda Agricola Montevetrano bottles around 30,000 bottles for almost a single label. This exceptional wine, which determines the image of an entire region, is certified by experts to have survived every debate on contemporary tastes and its style.

The grape varieties harvested in the vineyard under the strict control of Domenico La Rocca are vinified separately in the 400 square metre cellar. The separation of the fruits is carried out because, on the one hand, the harvest times vary and, on the other hand, Riccardo Cotarella determines the final mixture only after fermentation. The wine is first stored in steel vats for about 15 days before resting in new wooden barrels for ten to twelve months. This guarantees proper ageing and a perfectly balanced ripening process that preserves the typical regional characteristics of Montevetrano.

Cotarella, who has long been a friend of the landowner, is considered one of the most respected representatives of his profession in Italy. The president of the Union Internationale des Oenologues is known worldwide for flagships such as Tignanello and Solaia. And again and again the sought-after wine magician ("Il Mago"), previously unknown regions such as Campania - and above all the Montevetrano winery - to extract absolute top wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"There are no new fashions or trends that could shake the generally recognised authority of Montevetrano and its creator, Silvia Imparato ... Montevetrano is now rocking an entire wine-growing region, today more of a classic than an avant-garde label."Gambero Rosso
