“L’Atto” Rosso Basilicata IGT 2022
"L'Atto" - "The Deed". The names of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's wines are reminiscent of his father's notarial world.
Atto exudes a bouquet of crushed purple candies, freshly cut plums and a hint of musk. It is soft and fleshy in style, while silky textures reveal an opulent display of ripe black fruits and sweet herbal notes on the palate. Spiced blackberries mingle with hints of ginger biscuits and purple-hued flowers as it finishes long. There is plenty of immediate pleasure here, but not at the expense of balance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dusty dried florals, blackberries and exotic spice waft up from the 2022 l’Atto. This soothes with its silky textures and ripe wild berry fruits as sour citrus adds a lovely contrast toward the close. It finishes long and with a bitter tinge. Residual acids maintain a fresh character." Vinous

“Il Rogito” Rosato Basilicata IGT 2022
"Il Rogito" - "The contract". The names of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's wines are reminiscent of his father's world as a notary.
Il Rogito is indeed a splendid rosé from Basilicata. Strong, shiny light red, aromas of red berries underlaid with the scent of autumn leaves and spices. Fresh flavour, soft and long. Robust and very versatile. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Il Rogito is a deep, translucent red that bursts from the glass with an abundance of crushed cherries, strawberries and sweet spices. It is round and comforting, with an ample concentration of wild berries energised by a cooling acidity. Rosy, floral notes emerge towards the end. Classically dry, it finishes with medium length and a hint of red candy. Il Rogito is a wonderfully characterful and complex Aglianico Rosato." Vinous

“Il Repertorio” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2021
"Il Repertorio" - "The Register". Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's wines recall his father's notarial world with their names.
Expressive and uninhibited, the Aglianico Il Repertorio meets us. Dark berries, a herbal bouquet of mint, rosemary, black olive, thyme and sage, plus tones of leather and liquorice. An extremely fascinating and fresh wine from start to finish. Intense and delicate at the same time, elegant and rustic. SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose shows complex aromas of spicy oak, dark chocolate, dried herbs, dark cherries and liquorice. Firm and youthful on the palate." Decanter
"Lavender, plums, black and red currants and some white pepper on the nose. Fresh and youthful with full body, fine-grained tannins and a very clean finish." James Suckling
"A hauntingly dark display of crushed blackberries, lilac and lavender evolves in the glass as the 2021 Aglianico del Vulture Il Repertorio slowly comes to life. It’s silky and sleek, also decidedly savory in style, with tart wild berry fruits propelled by saline-tinged acidity. The 2021 finishes staining and structured, leaving a bitter tinge of exotic spice offset by sour citrus. This imposing vintage of Il Repertorio is built for the cellar." Vinous

“La Firma” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2017
"La Firma" - "The signature". The names of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's wines are reminiscent of his father's world as a notary.
La Firma, a single-varietal Aglianico that matures in natural caves of volcanic tuff, carat and French oak barrels. Beautiful ruby red colour with bright violet reflections. Complex bouquet with aromas of small black berries, liquorice and hay. Powerful and very harmonious on the palate, characterised by velvety tannins and a long, balsamic finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark and moody, the 2017 Aglianico del Vulture La Firma smolders up with a seductive bouquet of plum sauce, medicinal black cherries, cocoa and incense. This sweeps across the palate like liquid velvet, ushering in a cool-toned blend of crisp red and black fruits. It finishes dramatically long and intensely mineral, leaving behind a tart tinge of blackberries and a sour citrus resonance. The 2017 is complex and loaded with personality, but it’s currently in a youthfully backward state. Bury this is the cellar for the best results." Vinous

“Il Sigillo” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2015
"Il Sigillo" - "The Seal". Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti's wines recall his father's notarial world with their names.
Aglianico del Vulture of enormous beauty. Dark and impenetrable, it lies in the glass, from which opulent tones of dark fruits, spices and stony nuances emerge. Seamless and massive on the palate, structural richness, tannic sweetness, fine fresh acidity. A soulful, very promising drop with a great future. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark and creamy, with chocolate-covered cherry flavors, accents of dried rosemary, spiced orange peel and a base note of minerally iron and smoke. Delivers dense, plush tannins, which are wrapped in the juicy flavor profile and emerge to firm the finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo is a beast. It slowly opens in the glass, at first peppery and herbal, focused on earth tones and hints of musk. With time, a more perfumed mix comes to the fore, as nuances of mint give way to tart cherry, incense and smoke. Within, I’m finding texturally elegant waves of dark red and black fruits, washing across the senses with prominence, boasting full-bodied heft, yet expertly balanced by a vibrant core of acidity. There are depths here yet unseen, as a kaleidoscopic mix of dark chocolate, licorice, and cloves battle for supremacy against a coating of fine tannins throughout the finale. The 2015 is just a baby today, yet full of potential. Il Sigillo is made through a partial drying of late harvested grapes, similar to Amarone. It’s refined for 24 months in a combination of barriques and tonneaux." Vinous

Although the trained agronomist Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti only took over the winery shortly before the turn of the millennium, he was soon able to establish himself consistently in the select circle of top winegrowers in southern Italy. Cantine del Notaio is located in Rionero in Vulture, in the green heart of Basilicata at the foot of an ancient inactive volcano. The passionate landowner is considered a proven expert on the Aglianico grape variety, which shows off its qualities best on the volcanic soils of the Vulture. Giuratrabocchetti, supported by agronomist Luigi Moio, works with environmentally friendly methods and cultivates his vineyards according to organic and biodynamic principles. The father of the family tradition oriented manager was a notary, which explains the choice of the company name. The Dottore, on the other hand, has his love for wine from his grandfather, who was also called Gerardo. He had told his grandson, who was still a child: "You have the same name as me. That's why you're gonna own my vineyards."
Giuratrabocchetti has steadily expanded its range of bottles in recent years. Aglianico grapes are harvested in several phases on the volcanic soils of an area of 30 hectares. These grapes are later found in a number of single-varietal red wines. The young winery's range also includes sparkling, white and rosé wines, the names of which - like the red ones - are associated with the family's notarial activities. In old 17th century tuff caves, formerly owned by the Franciscans, in Rionero in Vulture the wines produced by traditional bottle fermentation are stored on wooden racks, while the remaining production takes place in the new, modern Serra del Granato winery in Ripacandida.
The commitment and research of the Cantine del Notaio has always been focused on researching the great potential of the Aglianico del Vulture grape variety. As a prime example of a successful local grape variety, Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti considers cuvées from Aglianico and one or more supra-regional grape varieties to be of little interest, as she proves that a certain angularity of the wine character can enhance its appeal. The manager of the estate does not seriously believe in the possibility of a return to the production methods of the past, but wants to move away from a folkloric transfiguration of traditional wine making. With technical progress in vinification, the winery owner has succeeded in limiting the alcohol content, which in the past resulted in a rather harsh Aglianico, and has given the wine a new "aspetto di eleganza" to lend. SUPERIORE.DE
"Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti has been caring for this family business all his life, as well as for this area of cultivation, which has also gained in visibility thanks to his presence over the past 20 years."Gambero Rosso
