Sappy, fleshy and deep red cherry, citrus and floral flavors but light on its feet, showing outstanding clarity and floral lift. Finishes with impressive cut and mineral-driven persistence." Selezione “La Botte di Gianni” · Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOC 2010 · Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2010 · 6 (2 x 3) Bottles in OWC

Gianni Masciarelli has created one of Italy's leading wineries over the course of three decades. He died in the summer of 2008. His love was for the landscape, the people and the grape varieties of Abruzzo. For the wines he always relied on Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo.

Today Giannis wife, Marina Cvetic and daughter Miriam continue to run the winery successfully. And with "La Botte di Gianni" they vinify his vision of Trebbiano and Montepulciano.

3 fl. Trebbiano d'Abruzzo "La Botte di Gianni" Riserva DOC 2010Dry
straw yellow colour, clean, aromatic bouquet with ripe tropical fruit. On the palate very full-bodied, but at the same time beautifully clear, long aftertaste.SUPERIORE.DE

"This shows the magic of whites from Abruzzo: bright and brilliant and intense with sliced limes, apples and minerals. Its full-bodied and wonderful acidity gives this wine tension and brightness. Named after the late Gianni Masciarelli, founder of the winery, only 892 bottles were produced of these. Think grand cru Chablis." James Suckling

3 bottles Montepulciano d'Abruzzo "La Botte di Gianni" DOC 2010
Deep dark ruby sparkling, aromas of blackberry, elderberry, leather and some cinnamon. On the palate dense tannin, much depth, tightly structured, elegant enamel, long. SUPERIORE.DE

"With only 869 bottles produced, the 2010 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo La Botte di Gianni is dedicated to the winery's visionary founder. Gianni Masciarelli died of a sudden heart attack in 2008. This beautiful rendition speaks directly to the personality of the man. This is a strong, stubborn, energetic and complex red wine with thick layers of dark fruit, spice and cigar box. The wine shows a firm tannic background and an uncompromising style." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Masciarelli
    Abruzzo
    Masciarelli

Gianni Masciarelli was very close to his homeland, Abruzzo, and once said almost philosophically that if he were wine, he would only want to thrive here. Today the vineyards of the Masciarelli winery are located in the four provinces of Chieti, Teramo, Pescara and L'Aquila spread over fourteen communities. The 420-hectare wine oasis, located in the village of San Martino sulla Marrucina, was founded by the widow Marina Cvetic and her daughter Miriam in 2008 after the death of the founder just before the company celebrated its 30th anniversary. Since then, the company has been run with great dedication, but also very competently and successfully.

The wine style of the house has remained the same to this day: The varied climatic and soil conditions between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso massif, at different altitudes, give rise to powerful, concentrated and well-kept plants which, after preparation, never taste obtrusively of wood and form a successful synthesis of terroir and innovation.

The founder of the estate was the first Abruzzo winegrower ever to appreciate the enormous potential of the local varieties Montepulciano and Trebbiano, to rely on low yields and alternative winegrowing methods and to recognise at a very early stage the interplay of soil-specific, climatic and human factors, which is so important for the development of quality. This makes Gianni Masciarelli a pioneer in viticulture in the central Italian wine-growing region. His successful work is also in a very close context to the rebirth of local wines on the world market. In addition to fine red and white wines, the estate also produces four varieties of high-quality olive oil, which is bottled in more than 100,000 bottles every year.

The mineral-rich soils of Abruzzo offer the vines of the Azienda Agricola Masciarelli an ideal home. The soil, mostly limestone, clay, sand and pebble, gives a personal touch to the individual vineyards, which reach a height between 200 and 500 metres above sea level. The fourteen labels including and even in less good years reliable bottle battery of the wine house ranges from basic wines offered at reasonable prices to very demanding and worldwide appreciated Crus. The Marina Cvetic and Villa Gemma lines stand out again and again from the wide assortment.

A large part of the wine production started in 1981 is now based on the classic line "Gianni Masciarelli"The newcomer will get a first impression of the efficiency of the winery with the new Montepulciano and Trebbiano winery. Even after the death of his friend Gianni, the oenologist Romeo Taraborrelli is still responsible for all stages of winemaking in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE

"Gianni Masciarelli was always ready to experiment with new grape varieties or wine ideas. Whatever he did, he never lost sight of protecting the unmistakable identity and tradition of the Abruzzo wine region. The result is one of the most dynamic wine producers in Italy, who still lives on as a guiding star and with his inspiration." (1,000 Great Wines That Won't Cost a Fortune)
