“Essence” Franciacorta Rosé DOCG 2018 brut
Essence Rosé Millesimato Brut offers an exciting bouquet of almonds and white bread crust. The palate is characterised by precise fruit, elegant complexity and a balanced structure. The perlage is persistent and fine, firm body, polished mousseux, with a harmonious, fresh and long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, brilliant peach-pink colour. Fragrant and clear nose of apricots, cream, candied orange pieces, floral hints. Precise, straightforward, almost airy on the palate, carried by a velvety perlage, delicately fruity, balanced and harmonious, great rosé!" Falstaff
"A bright and zesty style with red berries and ruby citrus fruit, delivered in a cleverly approachable and focused style." James Suckling
"The 2018 Rosé Essence is coy in the glass, lifting up with a nuanced mix of white strawberries and citrus-tinged florals. It's more lively on the palate, splashing across the senses with an elegant bead of fine bubbles and ripe red berries that are perfectly offset by saline-mineral tones toward the close. A burst of inner sweetness punctuates the finale as hints of inner rose, licorice and nectarine slowly fade. A bit more bottle age may help the aromatics to evolve. Otherwise, this is already highly pleasurable." Vinous

“61” Franciacorta Millesimato DOCG 2016 brut nature
Brut Nature is Guido Berlucchi's vintage Franciacorta, which does not require any dosage (zero) and thus perfectly rounds off the top end of the 61 collection. The "61" line stands for the year of birth of the first Franciacorta, which was created in 1961 in the centuries-old Berlucchi vineyards. The grapes come from four vineyards between Corte Franca and Provaglio d'Iseo. In its purity, the cuvée perfectly embodies the expression of the terroir and shows the fascination of Chardonnay. Despite its 0 grams of residual sugar, it is rich and full-bodied on the palate. Very big! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, brilliant straw yellow with a fine perlage. Light yeasty notes on the nose, brioche and baked apple, with candied lemon and roasted almonds in the background. Powerful perlage on the palate, beautiful acidity and a long, bone-dry final." Falstaff
"This brut nature opens with green herbs and white peach on the nose, flinty and clean. Exceptional fruit concentration is refreshed by fine perlage and smoky acidity. The finish shows integrated developing tertiary notes, demonstrating complexity and promise for further ageing." Decanter
"Sliced pears, lemons, green apples and biscuits on the nose. It’s crisp, clean and medium-bodied, with fine bubbles and restrained fruit. Dry and focused, with a sharp and mouthwatering finish." James Suckling
"A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Nero, the Guido Berlucchi 2016 Franciacorta '61 Nature Dosaggio Zero sees the finest lots of fruit in oak barrel for six months followed by a minimum five years in bottle. The bouquet emits a mix of dried lemon and baked apple with softly toasted notes to flesh out the mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"This exciting wine is full of energy and vibrancy. The blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir has compelling aromas of tart apples, candied citrus zest, fresh pastry dough and wild herbs. The palate is dry and leads off with lemon zest, green pear, thyme and marjoram, finishing with roasted almonds and minerality." Wine Enthusiast

Franciacorta Rosé DOCG 2018 brut
Pinot Nero and Chardonnay give this exceptional Franciacorta a delicate salmon red colour with an orange touch. Strawberry fruit, a hint of blackcurrant and fine floral nuances on the nose. Freshly structured on the palate, with a lively mousse and delicate red berry flavours with citrus undertones. A light-footed character with elegance, character and grace right through to the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense orange-pink with copper reflections. Clear and fragrant on the nose, candle wax, raspberries, subtle hint of salted caramel, some incense on the finish. Balanced and precise on the palate, with fine playfulness and clear fruit, final on a fine vanilla note with a slightly phenolic finish." Falstaff
"Notes of strawberry, cranberry and fresh rose make for a lively and vibrant flavour profile. The wine has a hint of blood orange peel and ends with crisp acidity, a lively perlage and a long-lasting finish." Wine Enthusiast
"A blend with a light proportion of Chardonnay, but with a strong proportion of Pinot Noir, with partial use of oak during vinification and ageing. Very balsamic nose, with notes of redcurrant, thyme and iodised notes." Luca Gardini

The Franciacorta is a relatively small and still young wine-growing area. As a result, the subzone in the north of Lombardy is comparatively little known outside Italy. Since the noble sparkling wines play qualitatively long in the first league, they are called by wine connoisseurs rightly in a breath with the French model Champagner.
It was only in the sixties that Franciacorta, which had previously been characterised by a production for its own needs, began to cultivate wine on a grand scale. The cradle of the manageable and scenically very attractive wine-growing area is the Guido Berlucchi winery (you can also find it here). In 1961 the oenologist and champagne lover Franco Ziliani produced a sparkling wine in classic bottle fermentation for the first time. In Italy, this procedure is used "Metodo Classico " or even "Metodo Tradizionale" is called. Six years later Franciacorta became a DOC region and in 1995 the subzone was granted DOCG status, a controlled and protected designation of origin. This appreciation has been followed by a meteoric rise to this day, which manifests itself in annually increasing sales figures. The goal is clear: Franciacorta should establish itself as an independent name - comparable to the French equivalent from the area around Epernay. This explains why the Consortium, founded in 1990 by a group of winegrowers to protect the 2,000 hectare area in which Franciacorta DOCG is now grown, ordered that the labels on the bottles of Franciacorta DOCG should not be confused with the term "wine". "sparkling wine" - the Italian name for sparkling wine.
In fact, the Franciacorta can compete with the sometimes much more expensive French model. The grapes come from the Brescia region, between Milan and Verona, not far from Lake Garda. To the east the zone is bordered by foothills of the Rhaetian Alps, to the west by the river Oglio and to the south by Monte Orfano. The temperature differences between day and night are high, the winter months turn out to be cold and humid, the summers are warm. The vines grow on mineral-rich moraine hills; the soils are mostly loose, loamy limestone and siliceous. The vineyards wind like a ribbon around the southern part of Lago d'Iseo. All in all, the conditions for the cultivation of fine sparkling wines in Franciacorta are ideal.
The production regulations for the North Italian fine sparkling wine are literal and just as strict as in the Champagne. Only the grape types Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Nero (here maximum 50 percent) are permitted. Yields from newly planted vineyards may only be processed from the third vintage onwards. A simple Franciacorta Brut must mature on the yeast for 18 months and a vintage sparkling wine for at least 30 months before being sold. The dosage and the resulting residual sweetness are kept rather lean, resulting in a complex and elegant drop that also has good ripening and storage potential. A classic Franciacorta Brut (without vintage) is complemented by four other wine types: Satèn, Rosé, Millesimato (vintage sparkling wine) and Riserva. Among the almost one hundred Franciacorta producers, Guido Berlucchi and the Bellavista and Ca' del Bosco wineries are among the best known.
In Italy, the sparkling wines from the Franciacorta wine region have of course made the breakthrough a long time ago, which has already led to some producers' increasing international demand outstripping supply. Mainly in the north of the country the native noble sparkling wine is enjoyed gladly as aperitif and food companion. SUPERIORE.DE
"Most thoughts of fine sparkling wines begin and end with champagne. This is understandable, but Champagne, which is also associated with a certain production process - the traditional bottle fermentation process used in other countries - by no means the only area in the world where fine sparkling wine is produced. In Italy, where it is called Spumante, extremely fine, delicate examples succeed, especially in cooler northern regions such as Franciacorta and other parts of Lombardy, Trentino and South Tyrol ..."
