!["Assolo" Frizzante Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco]()
“Assolo” Frizzante Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco
The Medici family has been growing Lambrusco in Montecchio Emilia for over a hundred years. Not because it sells well at the moment – but because they know no other way and want no other way. Four generations, one obsession: to make the best Reggiano DOC that these hills have to offer. Harvests far below the maximum authorised yield, soils made of heavy clay, care taken down to the last detail of vinification. Assolo is their most accessible wine – and it is not a compromise. 51% Ancellotta for colour and fruit, Lambrusco Salamino for acidity and bite. Fermentation in steel at a controlled temperature, second fermentation according to the Martinotti method in a closed pressurised chamber.

!["Concerto" Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco (BIO)]()
“Concerto” Lambrusco Reggiano DOC 2025 secco (BIO)
There is a moment in the history of Lambrusco that changed everything. In 1984, the Medici family decided to press their best wine not from an average vineyard, but from a single vineyard: Tenuta La Rampata, near Gaida in Reggio Emilia. This was a provocation – for a grape variety that was considered a mass product at the time. The Concerto became the first single-vineyard Lambrusco in the world. And it proved that this idea was not hubris. 100% Lambrusco Salamino, organically grown on clay soils, Cordone speronato, yields far below the maximum permitted quantities. Spontaneous fermentation in steel, stopping at the desired alcohol content, second fermentation using the Charmat method at the lowest temperatures – to preserve every hint of fruit. Officially certified organic since the 2020 harvest.

Lambrusco is considered by many to be the epitome of an inferior sweet mass wine. The fact that the pearly red drop can nevertheless very successfully resist its image as a cheap fusel in a high-quality design is due above all to Alberto Medici. The owner of the long-established family business Medici Ermete, located in Gaida in the northern part of Emilia-Romagna, meticulously supervises all vinification processes in the cellar and has thus made the drop, popular at summer parties, socially acceptable all over the world.
The secret of this success lies in the fact that the family treats the grapes with the utmost care, following the example of the best wineries in the world. It is therefore understandable that the best sparkling wines from Medici Ermete are on the wine list in numerous top restaurants. The vineyard concept of the Weinhaus is not only described by the wine guide Gambero Rossoas a 'imaginative'but also as 'Rarity in the Lambrusco landscape' ...and I appreciate it.
Before Alberto Medici took the helm in the winery, the company founded by Remigio Medici at the end of the 19th century was first expanded by the son of his ancestor - also called Ermete by his first names - and then successfully continued by his sons Valter and Giorgio. The winery, which has since been modernised, has received the greatest possible appreciation for its wines through the personal commitment of the fourth generation of the family, who now run the business. The Lambrusco manufacturer, which has received many awards in the course of its history, is known for its competing Italian products of the same colour - above all for its 'concert' - every year to meet the high expectations. One of the ideas for success is probably that the family establishes a close link between the individual vines and the labels. The grapes used for the production are selected so strictly that the DOC regulations regarding the maximum permitted yield per hectare are clearly undercut.
The plateau and the foot of the Emilia hills are particularly suitable for the cultivation of vines thanks to their microclimate and the characteristics of the loamy soil. According to Medici Ermete, the winery, which works in a natural and environmentally friendly way, owns two of its best wineries here: Tenuta Rampata and Tenuta Quercioli. In the shade of castles and old villages, the DOC Reggiano, Colli di Scandiano and Canossa vines grow in this area. While the grapes of the most elegant and long-lasting wines ripen in their own well-tended vineyards, the fruits of other labels in the wide range mostly come from local producers. SUPERIORE.DE
