Very classic Serra del Conte: straw yellow colour with greenish reflections, fresh-fruity aroma, delicate and spicy taste with a beautiful, balanced structure. SUPERIORE.DE

"More savory than sweet and packed-full of crushed stone mineral tones and crisp green apple, the 2020 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Serra del Conte makes itself known. While pleasantly ripe in style and soothing on the palate, this impresses more with its core of bright acidity that keeps the expression incredibly fresh and lifted. Hints of raw almond and orchard fruits linger long, as the cheeks pucker through the mouthwatering finale. I love the contrast of tension and ripeness here that makes the 2020 very easy to like." “Villa Torre” Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore DOC 2020 (BIO)

Villa Torre is the best seller of the family winery and comes from vines that are about 25 years old. Bright, straw-yellow green. Fresh floral aromas of nectarines, pears, lime and yellow apples. Soft on the palate, interwoven with sweet spices and framed by fresh, lively acidity, then citrus and traces of minerals in the second half. A thoroughly energetic, serious white with high drinkability. SUPERIORE.DE

"Mixing peppery florals and herbs with wet stone and green apple, the 2020 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Villa Torre makes itself known. This is spicy and savory, with a zing of brilliant acidity that keeps the energy high, as tart orchard fruits and sour lime cascade across the palate. While incredibly fresh, it's also persistent, leaving the mouth watering for more, as nuances of sweet citrus slowly taper off. It is amazing to think that the Villa Torre is the entry-level Verdicchio of Tenuta di Tavignano. The value here is unprecedented." Vinous

      “Jorio” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2018

This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo fascinates with its flattering bouquet of wild berries and balsamic notes. On the palate, notes of dark berries, dense and soft, juicy tannins and a fine hint of cocoa. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Jorio takes its time opening up in the glass. At first the wine is smoky with peppery florals and hints of camphor. Patience is rewarded, as this deepens with shades of violet, giving way to crushed blackberry and hints of spiced citrus. It's silky yet lifted in feel, with juicy acids and soothingly ripe red and black fruits. This closes incredibly fresh with a flourish of pretty inner florals and hints of licorice. The 2018 Jorio really captures the energy of the vintage and is a pleasure to taste." Vinous

"The 2018 Rosso Conero San Lorenzo holds nothing back, wafting up with sweet autumnal spices, mint and cedar before unveiling its core of medicinal cherry. This is silky-smooth and pliant in feel, pleasing with its ripe red and hints of blue fruit, as tannins slowly build towards the close. Salty and full of zesty minerality, the 2018 shows sapid red fruits, hints of plum and brisk acids that keeps the expression fresh. Grippy tannins linger through the finale, as hints of sour citrus and tart berries slowly taper off." Vinous

      Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2020

The white wines of La Monacesca are among the most exciting Verdicchio of the DOCG region, here you get freshness and race at very fair prices. Clear, fruity, mineral, round and long. Varietal typicity and true to the terroir, paired with depth and length. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2020 Verdicchio di Matelica blossoms in the glass with a gorgeous bouquet, showing crushed apples and green melon laced with lime zest and sweet white smoke. Its textures are like pure silk matched by a decadent and weighty wave of ripe orchard fruits, while the expression remains remarkably fresh. Residual acids mingle with salty minerals, bitter almonds and a hint of kiwi through the long and dramatic finale. Wow, this is already such a pleasure to taste, yet there's significant upside potential here as well. Simply stunning." Vinous

"The Brut Spumante Metodo Charmat Verdicchio wafts up with a delicate display of yellow florals, apples and chamomile contrasted by a twang of fresh ginger. Its soothing bubbles and balanced inner sweetness are nicely contrasted by brilliant acidity and tart orchard fruits, making for a lovely interplay of contrasts. On the palate, a great interplay of juice and power, spicy tension, fresh citrus notes and aromatic firmness. It is among the best of its denomination every year. SUPERIORE.DE

"Herbal nose, mineral notes. Palate shows grapefruit focus, flinty undertones, a fruity finish." Decanter

"Spicy and full of unbridled energy, the 2019 Verdicchio dei Castello di Jesi Classico Superiore Misco wafts up with an inviting display of crushed green apples, candied ginger, incense, stone dust and almond paste. It's a silky and medium-bodied effort that soothes all that it touches in ripe orchard fruits, but it then cleanses the palate with a blast of salty acids. pepflorals and hints of lime linger, as the mouth waters for more. The Verdicchio Podium has a strong personality with its fragrance of citrus fruits, broom and lime blossom, tropical fruits and almond. The taste is perfectly balanced and dynamic in its different components, spicy and of unbeatable harmony the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Flinty nose. Rich, honeyed, peachy palate with citrus undertones. Concentration and pithy length." Decanter

"The 2018 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Podium is spicy and wildly fresh, wafting up with zests of lemon and lime, followed by dusty yellow flowers and white smoke. Its textures are velvety and round, verging on oily, while remaining wonderfully poised and finessed throughout. There's almost a feeling of vibration on the palate, as notes of ripe green apple with a hint of tropical citrus and savory spices amass in the mouth and linger long. About the regionMarche

Verdicchio. Formerly for the troops - today for the holidaymakers.

170 kilometers of Adriatic beach. Behind it is a fertile hilly country with almost 18,000 hectares of vineyards. The region is located in the center of the country, bordered by Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo. The Celts and the Etruscans cultivated wine here as well as the Romans, of course. Allegedly the Visigoth king Alarich strengthened his troops with Verdicchio during the attack on Rome. Today the well-known dry white wine is not only very popular with tourists.

Tourism played an important role in the success of Marche wines.

At present, about 17,500 hectares are planted with vines in the Marches. The main white varieties are Verdicchio, Pecorino, Trebbiano Toscano, Biancame - also called Bianchello, Grechetto, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Malvasia and Chardonnay. The red varieties are dominated by Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Lacrima di Morro and Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, a variety of Grenache. In recent years, some producers have experimented very successfully with yield-reduced individual vineyards, selected grapes and barriques. Great wines were the result. These plants prove that the often despised Montepulciano grape produces results similar to those of Sangiovese when lovingly treated.

The Marche region produces about half red and half white wines. Total production amounts to around 98 million litres per year. More than a third of the wine is produced in 5 DOCG and 15 DOC zones. Brands account for less than two percent of total Italian wine production.

The most famous wine is the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC. A small part of the approximately 3,000 hectares of Verdicchio achieved DOCG status and has been labelled as Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva DOCG since 2011. Both zones cover the parishes around the town of Jesi, about 25 kilometres from Ancona inland. The Verdicchio di Matelica is being built in slightly higher areas - on the slopes of the Apennines - with its own DOC on a mini area of just over 200 hectares. Vernacchia grapes are used to produce excellent sparkling wines according to the traditional method of bottle fermentation - Metodo Classico.

Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno - the velvet softens.

The best red wine of the Marches is probably the Rosso Conero, which is produced in the direct surroundings of Ancona mainly from the red Montepulciano grape with Sangiovese. The wine is velvety, soft and fruity. The majority of Sangiovese grapes are used to make Rosso Piceno, which can be produced in almost the entire area to the west and south of Ancona. North of the port there are the vineyards of the DOC Colli Pesaesi, where Sangiovese is produced into a lighter red wine with a little Pinot Nero. The light, sparkling white wine Bianchello del Metauro also comes from the same area. It is pressed from the local biancame grape.

The DOC Lacrima di Morro is produced in the north, between Ancona and the Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi area. It is a very fragrant red wine made from the local Lacrima grape. In recent years the Ascoli Piceno region has been on the upswing, not least due to the quality offensive of the active president of the Consortium, Angela Velenosi.

The white wines from the autochthonous grape variety Pecorino, which come mainly from the Colli Maceratesi DOC and the Falerio dei Colli Ascolani DOC, are also becoming increasingly popular. SUPERIORE.DE
