“Montipagano” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2021 (BIO)
Montipagano is a pleasant, single-varietal Montepulciano from organic cultivation. Strong ruby violet, great aroma of blackberry and lilac with earthy tones. Beautiful fruit and structure on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Montipagano is a pretty expression of the vintage with arching florals and mint-laced wild berries forming its bouquet. It’s soft-textured with medium-bodied weight and vibrant acidity that creates a juicy feel to the ripe cherry-berry notes within. This leaves a tinge of violette candies and sweet spices while tapering off remarkably fresh. The Montipagano is a total pleasure and real value in pure Montepulciano fruit." Vinous

“San Lorenzo” Rosso Conero DOC 2021
Pure-varietal Montepulciano from the San Lorenzo vineyard: garnet red with almost black reflections. On the nose, sweet autumnal spices, mint and cedar before revealing its core of medicinal cherry. Silky and smooth on the palate, it delights with its ripe red and blue fruits, while the tannins slowly build towards the end. On the long and lightly structured final, notes of tangerine mingle with blueberry skin and chalky minerals. San Lorenzo is incredibly pretty and has a beautiful harmony and balance. SUPERIORE.DE

“Piancarda” Rosso Conero DOC 2020
Rosso Piancarda is intensely spiced and perfumed, with medicinal cherries and raspberries complemented by dusty roses and sweet cedar notes. On the palate, the Piancarda turns to the spicy spectrum. Salty and full of zesty minerality, it shows spicy red fruits, a hint of plum and a lively acidity that keeps the expression fresh. The grippy tannins linger until the final, while the notes of sour citrus and tart berries slowly fade away. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Rosso Conero Piancarda, a varietal Montepulciano, lifts from the glass with a dusty mix of dried roses, red currants and hints of nectarine that form a truly inviting bouquet. This is silky and elegant, nearly creamy in feel, yet elevated and cool-toned, with mineral-laced wild berries and a salty flourish that adds a savory sensation toward the close. The 2020 leaves a coating of fine tannins, as inner florals arch across the palate, and a caking of minerality slowly fades away. The warm vintage has imparted an extra suave character here, yet the Piancarda’s structure and acidity are nicely balanced and should promote medium-term cellaring. Lose a few bottles in the cellar; you’ll thank me later. " Vinous

Merlot Marche IGT 2019 (BIO)
Bisci can not only produce excellent Verdicchio, but also very appealing Rosso, which has been made from 100% Merlot since the 2019 vintage. With the most inexpensive wine in the assortment of the noble winery from the Marche, it has achieved a great success: Fascinating aroma of red berries, noble wood and herbs, in the background a discreet, smoky component. Precise and taut on the palate, with a wonderful primary fruity core, framed by liquorice and a dried bouquet of Mediterranean herbs. A warm red for the not everyday days of the week. SUPERIORE.DE

Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2022 (BIO)
Italy connoisseur and wine critic Ian D'Agata writes about the grape variety in his book "Native Wine Grapes of Italy": "Verdicchio is arguably Italy's greatest native white grape variety. This statement may surprise those who have only tasted neutral or watery Verdicchio wines, sometimes even bottled in incredible, amphora-shaped bottles."
Light straw green. Clean and fresh on the nose, lively and buoyant on the palate with an almost laser-like precision in the aromas of citrus, herbs, almonds, shellfish and crushed rock. Its sweet and sour note makes the wine even more attractive and gives it a touch of "drink me now". Everything here is in perfect balance and of natural tension. Already the basic wine of Bisci with 7 months of ageing on the fine lees impressively shows the great class of the winery. SUPERIORE.DE

Verdicchio. Formerly for the troops - today for the holidaymakers.
170 kilometers of Adriatic beach. Behind it is a fertile hilly country with almost 18,000 hectares of vineyards. The region is located in the center of the country, bordered by Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Abruzzo. The Celts and the Etruscans cultivated wine here as well as the Romans, of course. Allegedly the Visigoth king Alarich strengthened his troops with Verdicchio during the attack on Rome. Today the well-known dry white wine is not only very popular with tourists.
Tourism played an important role in the success of Marche wines.
At present, about 17,500 hectares are planted with vines in the Marches. The main white varieties are Verdicchio, Pecorino, Trebbiano Toscano, Biancame - also called Bianchello, Grechetto, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Malvasia and Chardonnay. The red varieties are dominated by Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Lacrima di Morro and Vernaccia di Serrapetrona, a variety of Grenache. In recent years, some producers have experimented very successfully with yield-reduced individual vineyards, selected grapes and barriques. Great wines were the result. These plants prove that the often despised Montepulciano grape produces results similar to those of Sangiovese when lovingly treated.
The Marche region produces about half red and half white wines. Total production amounts to around 98 million litres per year. More than a third of the wine is produced in 5 DOCG and 15 DOC zones. Brands account for less than two percent of total Italian wine production.
The most famous wine is the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC. A small part of the approximately 3,000 hectares of Verdicchio achieved DOCG status and has been labelled as Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva DOCG since 2011. Both zones cover the parishes around the town of Jesi, about 25 kilometres from Ancona inland. The Verdicchio di Matelica is being built in slightly higher areas - on the slopes of the Apennines - with its own DOC on a mini area of just over 200 hectares. Vernacchia grapes are used to produce excellent sparkling wines according to the traditional method of bottle fermentation - Metodo Classico.
Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno - the velvet softens.
The best red wine of the Marches is probably the Rosso Conero, which is produced in the direct surroundings of Ancona mainly from the red Montepulciano grape with Sangiovese. The wine is velvety, soft and fruity. The majority of Sangiovese grapes are used to make Rosso Piceno, which can be produced in almost the entire area to the west and south of Ancona. North of the port there are the vineyards of the DOC Colli Pesaesi, where Sangiovese is produced into a lighter red wine with a little Pinot Nero. The light, sparkling white wine Bianchello del Metauro also comes from the same area. It is pressed from the local biancame grape.
The DOC Lacrima di Morro is produced in the north, between Ancona and the Verdicchio di Castelli di Jesi area. It is a very fragrant red wine made from the local Lacrima grape. In recent years the Ascoli Piceno region has been on the upswing, not least due to the quality offensive of the active president of the Consortium, Angela Velenosi.
The white wines from the autochthonous grape variety Pecorino, which come mainly from the Colli Maceratesi DOC and the Falerio dei Colli Ascolani DOC, are also becoming increasingly popular. SUPERIORE.DE
