• "Campirosa" Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC 2020

      “Campirosa” Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2020

Authentic rosé wine with fruity cherry and raspberry notes on the nose, soft and harmonious on the palate with a fresh acid wire underneath. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2020 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Campirosa takes some time to open in the glass. Swirling unlocks its fresh strawberry and cherry notes, laced with sweet florals. It's silky-smooth and soothes with ripe red fruits and juicy acids. Hints of licorice, exotic spice and nuanced tannins come forward through the close, seeming to linger for nearly a minute. The Campirosa is already very easy to like, but take your time with it today, or lose a bottle or two in the cellar until next year." Vinous

    • "Riparosso" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 2018

      “Riparosso” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC 2018

The rugged, red-tinged rocky landscape of Ripe in the immediate vicinity of the vineyards gave its name to the Riparosso. Its intense bouquet of delicately fresh character is beguiling, the velvety and mild taste absolutely seductive. SUPERIORE.DE

"Vanilla notes on the nose with very ripe fruit aromas. Fresh on the palate with smooth texture." Decanter

"Savory tones of dried tobacco and mentholated herbs ride over a ripe bramble-berry core on the nose. The light-bodied palate follows suit, adding in a tangy crushed stone. There's real grip to the tannins but the succulent, crunchy fruit offers a fine counterbalance." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2018 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riparosso opens up with violette pastille, blueberries and sweet spice, neatly framed by a whiff of savory herbs. It boasts soft, fleshy textures and ripe black fruits while leaving salty minerals and vibrant acids to slowly fizzle out. This is long, persistent and fruit-focused, yet it maintains balance, leaving pretty inner florals and the slight tug of youthful tannin." Vinous

    • "Tralcetto" Pecorino d'Abruzzo DOC 2020

      “Tralcetto” Pecorino d’Abruzzo DOC 2020

This white grape variety still unjustly leads a shadowy existence, yet it has so much fun and seriousness to offer: Fine, fresh bouquet of peach, quince and almond. Firmly built on the palate, with multilayered primary fruit and beautifully integrated, lively acidity. A wonderfully sensitive companion of light summer dishes, gladly also with bread and olives under the awning with the surprising summer rain ... SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Villa Gemma" Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC 2019

“Villa Gemma” Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2019

Pure Rosato from Montepulciano grapes: Brilliant, bright colour, fresh, fruity, floral fragrance, notes of red berries and a hint of citrus. Smooth, juicy and full-bodied on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense cherry pink with brilliant reflexes. Fruity and complex nose, slightly spicy, rich young cherry, forest berries, blood orange juice. Balanced on the palate, well balanced, nice balance between fruit and acidity, good length, nice play." Falstaff

"Bright, pale cherry-red color. Lots of ripe strawberries on the nose here, with some peach and rose-petal jam, too. A medium-to full-bodied Cerasuolo rosé with medium acidity and pronounced red-fruit and candied-cherry flavors." James Suckling

"The 2019 Villa Gemma Cerasuolo shows depths of rich red berry fruits on the nose, complemented by notes of sweet sage, a hint of lemon, and crushed stone. On the palate, silky textures wash across the senses, buzzing with energy, as brisk acids create a push-and-pull of savory and sweet, while saline-minerals saturate toward the finale. Rosy florals, cranberry, and a hint of spice all linger for what seems to be a full minute, with a hint of fine tannin to punctuate the experience. This is a gorgeous expression of Montepulciano fruit, and it shows why Cerasuolo is such a popular category in Abruzzo." Vinous

    About the regionAbruzzo

From the beach to the highest peak.

Nowhere in Italy is the difference in altitude greater. From the approximately 130 kilometre long Adriatic beach it goes up to 2,912 metres above sea level. Abruzzo, as it is called in Italian, is dominated by the Apennines, which have their highest peaks here with Corno Grande and Monte Amaro. Two thirds of Abruzzo is mountainous. On the remaining third, which slopes hilly to the sea, wine is cultivated up to 600 meters above sea level. A scenically fascinating wine region in the middle of Italy, east of Rome.

Like the micro-climate zones, the soils are very varied. The approximately 33,000 hectares of vineyards alternate from rocky soils to limestone, clay, sand and gravel in the various zones. Good conditions for a varied viticulture. However, most of the winegrowers were rather conservative and shied away from experiments with new grape varieties or methods of cultivation and delivered their grapes to the cooperatives. These produced good everyday wine, but no top qualities. That is why the image of the wines was only average.

Only in the late 2000s did a small quality offensive of some courageous winegrowers begin, above all Gianni Masciarelli, who tirelessly presented his wines at events and fairs and amazed the tasters and imitated colleagues.

Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerino, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.

This is the main assortment of the Abruzzi. One DOCG - Colline Teramane Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOCG - and eight DOC regions produce over 100 million liters of quality origin wine, which is a good third of all Abruzzo wines. However, this proportion has been fairly constant for ten years. And that means two thirds of the time. "vino"so simple table wine. This is a huge quantity, namely over ten percent of all simple Italian wines. It is also interesting to note that almost 80 percent of all wines come from the Chieti region, where 25,000 hectares of vineyards are located alone. The other three regions. L'Aquila, Teramo and Pescara therefore only cultivate a total of 7,800 hectares.

Wine and olive oil are of excellent quality throughout the region.

The most famous grape variety is the red Montepulciano grape, which is often blended with Sangiovese. There are also Barbera and Ciliegiolo as well as the French varieties, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a little Pinot Nero. The white variety most commonly cultivated is a Trebbiano variety, the pedigree of which has not been clearly established and which is known as Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Also Trebbiano Toscano, Pecorino, Bombino Bianco, Verdicchio, Malvasia, Falanghina, Bianca di Candida and some others in small quantities.

Trebbiano d‘Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo are the two most important quality wines.

They are also internationally known. The Montepulciano often convinces already in the youth with fruity aromas and velvety texture. After a few years in the bottle, however, it develops into a delicate, full-bodied wine with a fine tannin structure. The Montepulciano d’By the way, Abruzzo has nothing to do with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC is a rich rosé version of the Montepulciano. But beware, this is not a light, palatable summer wine.

White wine is produced significantly less in DOP quality (only 9%). Although the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino and other regional specialities always perform well at international tastings, they remain niche products - simply because there is so little of them. SUPERIORE.DE
