“Campirosa” Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2021
Campirosa Cerasuolo only gradually unfolds its fresh strawberry and cherry notes, adorned with sweet flowers. On the palate, silky-soft and very convincing with its ripe red fruits and juicy acids. Hints of liquorice, exotic spices and nuanced tannins emerge on the finish and seem to linger for almost a minute. Campirosa is a charming favourite wine young, but can also age for another year in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Campirosa keeps me at the edge of the glass with a slightly confectionary bouquet of sweet and sour melon, rose petals and candied lime. It’s silky-smooth and round with hints of sour citrus and stimulating acids to balance. Notes of licorice and hard red candies linger long, as the Campirosa finishes fresh and with a pleasant inner sweetness." Vinous
"Pleasant, floral nose with bright red cherries and hints of red flower petals. Medium-bodied with a nicely controlled balance of fruit, acidity and just a hint of tannin. A rosé with backbone." James Suckling

Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2021
Clear pink colour with strong reflections. Fresh cherry bouquet, characteristic and with floral notes. Dry and fruity on the palate, with aromas of sour cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries, plus the typical very light almond tone on the finish. A very harmonious rosé with a fresh and powerful structure that lingers beautifully and is a pleasure to drink. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is sweetly scented with white strawberries, dusty rose and a hint of confectioners’ sugar. It envelopes the palate in silken textures, as ripe red fruits give way to inner florals and hints of spice. Nuances of licorice and cherry linger as this finishes fresh." Vinous

“Villa Gemma” Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC 2020
Pure-varietal Rosato made from Montepulciano grapes: strong bright cherry-pink, fresh fruity, floral scent, notes of red berries and a hint of citrus and blood orange. Supple, juicy and full-bodied on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Opening to a dark ruby color with raspberry pink highlights, the Masciarelli 2020 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Superiore Villa Gemma is fresh and lively with plenty of wild berry, cherry and rose-like aromas. The wine flaunts a youthful primary intensity, with fresh acidity, which makes it a simple joy to drink, especially if a plate of fried olives or mozzarella fritters is on the table. There's plenty of fresh acidity to bring out the flavors in those fun finger foods." Robert Parker
"The wickedly fresh 2020 Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo Villa Gemma leads with dusty red florals, dried strawberries and sweet white smoke. It fills the palate with fleshy textures contrasted by zesty acids and spice. Tart cherry and hints of blueberry collect toward the close, along with hints of round tannin. This is persistent and lightly structured, yet it still buzzes with energy, making the 2020 an excellent option for drinking now or through short-term cellaring. Nicely done." Vinous
"Light red-cherry color with aromas of strawberries and raspberries, as well as a touch of red peach. Medium-bodied with a good core of red-fruit flavor and clean acidity pushing it along. Super-clean, refreshing and delicious." James Suckling

From the beach to the highest peak.
Nowhere in Italy is the difference in altitude greater. From the approximately 130 kilometre long Adriatic beach it goes up to 2,912 metres above sea level. Abruzzo, as it is called in Italian, is dominated by the Apennines, which have their highest peaks here with Corno Grande and Monte Amaro. Two thirds of Abruzzo is mountainous. On the remaining third, which slopes hilly to the sea, wine is cultivated up to 600 meters above sea level. A scenically fascinating wine region in the middle of Italy, east of Rome.
Like the micro-climate zones, the soils are very varied. The approximately 33,000 hectares of vineyards alternate from rocky soils to limestone, clay, sand and gravel in the various zones. Good conditions for a varied viticulture. However, most of the winegrowers were rather conservative and shied away from experiments with new grape varieties or methods of cultivation and delivered their grapes to the cooperatives. These produced good everyday wine, but no top qualities. That is why the image of the wines was only average.
Only in the late 2000s did a small quality offensive of some courageous winegrowers begin, above all Gianni Masciarelli, who tirelessly presented his wines at events and fairs and amazed the tasters and imitated colleagues.
Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerino, Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
This is the main assortment of the Abruzzi. One DOCG - Colline Teramane Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOCG - and eight DOC regions produce over 100 million liters of quality origin wine, which is a good third of all Abruzzo wines. However, this proportion has been fairly constant for ten years. And that means two thirds of the time. "vino"so simple table wine. This is a huge quantity, namely over ten percent of all simple Italian wines. L'Aquila, Teramo and Pescara therefore only cultivate a total of 7,800 hectares.
Wine and olive oil are of excellent quality throughout the region.
The most famous grape variety is the red Montepulciano grape, which is often blended with Sangiovese. There are also Barbera and Ciliegiolo as well as the French varieties, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a little Pinot Nero. The white variety most commonly cultivated is a Trebbiano variety, the pedigree of which has not been clearly established and which is known as Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. Also Trebbiano Toscano, Pecorino, Bombino Bianco, Verdicchio, Malvasia, Falanghina, Bianca di Candida and some others in small quantities.
Trebbiano d‘Abruzzo and Montepulciano d’Abruzzo are the two most important quality wines.

After a few years in the bottle, however, it develops into a delicate, full-bodied wine with a fine tannin structure. The Montepulciano d’By the way, Abruzzo has nothing to do with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. The Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC is a rich rosé version of the Montepulciano. But beware, this is not a light, palatable summer wine.
White wine is produced significantly less in DOP quality (only 9%). Although the Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino and other regional specialities always perform well at international tastings, they remain niche products - simply because there is so little of them. SUPERIORE.DE
