    • "Rosso dei Notri" Toscana IGT 2018

“Rosso dei Notri” Toscana IGT 2018

Rosso dei Notri is a solid, concentrated drop with bite and strength, which gives a lot of pleasure with its fleshy, long lasting taste, the pleasant overall harmony and the reasonable value. SUPERIORE.DE

"Powerful, bright ruby red. In the nose appealing notes of dark berries, fresh and powerful. On the palate much smooth tannin, finely meshed, builds up well, long aftertaste, juicy." Falstaff

The 2018 is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Aimed at younger drinkers, it's intended to be immediately approachable: only 10% of the wine spent time in oak, and not for very long, so the emphasis is on a fruity, accessible style. The nose is delicately balanced between dark blackberries, blackcurrants and bright red berries. Juicy flavours and vivid acidity give a nice freshness to this medium-bodied wine. Decanter

"The 2018 Rosso dei Notri  is a very fresh and tonic red that surprisingly comes from fruit harvested two weeks later than normal. And Merlot is not always happy to stay on the vines for longer than it has to. It's a fruit-forward wine that was aimed more at freshness instead of concentration, making it a good pair for a simple margherita pizza. You get terrific value here." Robert Parker

    • "Perlato del Bosco" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

“Perlato del Bosco” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Fragrant with aromas of lilac and broom, then cherry and blackberry. On the palate juicy and long with elegant, polished tannins and a pleasant acid reader. SUPERIORE.DE

"In the microclimate of Suvereto, Tuscany, the 2016 vintage was warmer than 2015. Fruit for the 2016 Perlato del Bosco (100% Sangiovese) was harvested in mid-September. In fact, the clone used here is designed to produce lower yields as a way of countering the hot weather in this zone. Larger oak barrels were employed in order to produce a lighter toasting effect. The results are broad in scope, with floral and peppery aromas on the nose." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Perlato del Bosco, 100% Sangiovese, is plump, juicy and forward, all qualities that are typical of Sangioveses from the southern part of Maremma, and the Suvereto in particular. Varietal red Sangiovese fruit is nicely amped up in this generous, inviting wine. A touch of new oak frames the finish nicely." Antonio Galloni

"This is so fresh and bright with cherries, plums and hints of chocolate and hazelnuts. Medium body, fine tannins and a delicious finish. Super subtle and long. Polished. Savory. Pure sangiovese." James Suckling

    • "Giusto di Notri" Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

“Giusto di Notri” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Wonderfully dense red. First ripe currants and cherries, then fine spices and menthol nuances. Intense and full-bodied on the palate. The fine-meshed tannins are rounded off again by the oak wood storage. SUPERIORE.DE

"Here is a high performance wine from Stefano Frascolla and his family. The 2015 Giusto di Notri is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The wine is contemporary, complex and gorgeous from tip to toe. You get a lot of power here and generous oak-driven tones of sweet espresso, chocolate and spice that surround a succulent core of dark fruit and candied cherry. All these elements appear even bigger and bolder in this warm vintage." Robert Parker

"This is dense and structured with beautifully polished tannins and plenty of currant and blackberry character. Full body and chewy tannins yet refined and juicy. Lots of Mediterranean herbs with the dark fruit. Blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon with merlot and cabernet franc. Pretty barrel sample. This is coming along very nicely." James Suckling

"Black cherry, creme de cassis, smoke, plum, new leather, spice, French oak and dark spice notes infuse the 2015 Giusto di Notri. Plush, succulent and totally flamboyant, the Giusto di Notri is another wine that captures the natural exuberance of Suvereto. All the elements simply fall into place. Readers should expect a rich, bold Tuscan red." Antonio Galloni

    • "Keir" Syrah Toscana IGT 2016

      “Keir” Syrah Toscana IGT 2016

Here comes Tua Rita's new wine from the Alta Maremma. Only 2,500 bottles of this 100% Syrah are bottled, the ageing (on the skins) takes place for half a year in amphorae, then it is filtered and matured in small French oak barrels.

Brilliant ruby red. In the nose a seductive mixture of cherry with hints of chocolate, herbs and a fine liquorice note. On the palate, cherry again, complemented by a kaleidoscope of chocolate, coffee and a subtle juniper note. A fabulous acidity structure and fine-grained tannins lead the precisely composed wine into a furious finale. Keir complements the high-class portfolio of the winery in a very independent and emphatic way. Great. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby with light nuances. Very clear nose with intense fruit, raspberry and strawberry, charming, like something good from ancient times. Round and smooth in the attack and course, shows much present fruit, in addition fine spicy notes, after pepper and cardamom, nice drinking flow, seems at first almost a bit too simple, but then shows more and more complexity." Falstaff

"2016 is the first vintage of this 100% Syrah, and what an exciting wine it is! It's kept on its skins in amphorae for six months, followed by a further five months maturation in old oak. The lack of overt new oak allows the pure and transparent quality of the fruit to shine much more, and personally I love this new direction - it's a beautifully poised Syrah with typical violet and smoky bacon aromas and ripe, fragrant fruit with heady, creamy spice...and much more. It's elegant and smooth, with fine-textured tannins and a bright, lively, vivacious palate. A delightful wine, and the rising star of the tasting." Decanter

    • "Per Sempre" Syrah Toscana IGT 2012

“Per Sempre” Syrah Toscana IGT 2012

Deep dark, almost impenetrable red. In the nose a whole range of mature forest berries, finely underlined by nuances of tobacco, leather and lavender. Also on the palate with a lot of fruit, powerful, but still silky and elegant. The best Syrah in Tuscany?! SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby-violet. Fine, accessible nose, opened with notes of raspberry, also some sweat. On the palate a lot of sweet fruit, luxuriant, like a baroque angel, opens with fine-meshed tannin, spans a wide arch, spicy finish." Falstaff

"Aromas of dried meats, light strawberry jam and dried fruits, like Christmas pudding. Full body with round, ripe tannins and plenty of chocolate, vanilla and spice on the finish. Drink now or hold." James Suckling

"Layers of inky, black fruit, grilled herbs, smoke, menthol and melted road tar are all layered together in the 2012 Syrah. Deep, fleshy and explosive in the glass, the Syrah is endowed with marvelous complexity and depth while remaining remarkably light on its feet for such a big wine. Hints of lavender, violets, leather and blueberry jam inform the finish. In 2012, the Syrah benefits greatly from longer macerations at lower temperatures and an overall gentler approach to extraction. The 2012 Syrah has been nothing short of remarkable on the multiple occasions I have tasted it so far." Antonio Galloni

"Tua Rita makes some of the finest Syrah in Italy and the 2012 Syrah Per Sempre confirms this statement. This is a fabulous wine that is brimming with dark fruit intensity, beautifully polished spice, leather, tobacco and a playful touch of smoked bacon fat at the back. The wine delivers an exciting sense of momentum and it builds in character and determination as it glides over the palate. This gorgeous wine needs a few more years of bottle aging to complete its promising evolution." Robert Parker

"Tua Rita's Syrah is quickly reaching quality levels that could put it ahead of the estate's celebrated Merlot Redigaffi. In fact, I approached this tasting of warm-vintage releases with special curiosity and anticipation for this particular wine over the others (based on how well Syrah does in hot vintages). Ultimately, the 2015 Syrah Per Sempre took a little extra time to open, and the bouquet was initially shy and reticent. Slowly and surely, it started to deliver dark fruit intensity with smoke, cured meat and spicy tobacco. The wine performs beautifully in the palate, however, and a big part of my score was inspired by the excellence of the mouthfeel. It is nuanced, rich and velvety." Robert Parker

"I love the dried flowers and smoked meats with hints of plums and berries. Full body, layered and refined with an extremely pretty and textured palate. Tea and dark fruits. Deep and fantastic. Savory. 20% whole berry. Best ever?" James Suckling

"Tua Rita's 2015 Syrah Per Sempre offers notable textural richness and depth, with a thread of whole cluster aromatic nuance that is woven throughout a core of intense dark fruit. • "Redigaffi" Rosso Toscana IGT 2014

      “Redigaffi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2014

Deep ruby red with violet reflections. In the bouquet complex with hints of forest and blackberries, ripe cherries, but also liquorice and tobacco notes. Very structured and very elegant on the palate. The silky tannins underline the filigree minerality to the almost infinite echo. SUPERIORE.DE

"Here's a wine that defeats the odds of the difficult vintage with a firm sense of style and confidence. The 2014 Redigaffi is Merlot that benefits from the sea breezes and bright sunshine of Coastal Tuscany to downplay the soggy and cool summer growing season. The fruit tastes ripe and plump with black cherry and red currant backed by heavier tones of spice, leather and tobacco. That the wine is made with care and the upmost attention to detail is evident. You can taste this in the quality of the wood and the fine tannic management." Robert Parker

"Fantastic aromas of red pepper, chocolate, chili, and blueberry. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a beautiful length and balance. A triumph for a difficult vintage in 2014. And the 20th vintage of this great pure merlot made. I am not sure I would wait on this one. Too delicious now." James Suckling

"A dense, sinewy style, whose black cherry, toast, vanilla and cedar flavors are wrapped in a cloak of spicy oak. Shows a supple texture and good balance, set on a linear profile. Minerally, with terrific length." Wine Spectator

    About the winemakers
    Tua Rita
    Tuscany | Maremma
    Tua Rita

The winery is clearly among those in Italy that have cult status and enjoy an excellent reputation abroad. Not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea, picturesquely situated on a hill in the small medieval village of Suvereto, the initially small artisan business has developed over time into a modern enterprise. The area under cultivation has increased continuously from two hectares at the beginning to 30 hectares at the end. Founded by Virgilio Bisti and Rita Tua, the fate of the house after the death of her father is increasingly determined by daughter Simena and her dynamic husband Stefano Frascolla. In the Val di Cornia wines are produced, which can convert the joyful character of their terroir first-class.

On the 50-hectare estate in the Maremma, the vineyards immediately behind the winery are characterised by low and moderately sloping slopes. They are planted with the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah, as well as with the white varieties Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Riesling, Traminer, Ansonica and Vermentino. Depending on the location, the density of planting varies between 5,000 and 9,000 vines per hectare. The grapes are picked by hand and sorted in the cellar. The soils are medium-heavy, stony and loamy, with clay and sand components and are also rich in mineral trace elements such as zinc and iron.

The extraordinary reputation of Tua Rita is based above all on the Redigaffi, which has become a showpiece since the nineties. It is a pure Merlot, full of character and radiating sensual artistry. However, this excellent plant is no longer without competition at the top of all the labels of the house, since other products - such as the Syrah and the Bordeaux blend Giusto di Notri - are always very well known in the professional world. All the wines of the Tuscan winery - including seven red ones - are admirable, very well structured and modern.

After the turn of the millennium, the wine cellar was expanded and redesigned for the production of high-profile products. Through minimalism and controlled inactivity, the very high quality of the noble drops is carefully preserved right into the bottle. The annual output of Tua Rita has long since left the four-digit range and has jumped to over 200,000 bottles to date. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tua Rita is the first producer to establish Suvereto as the new Bolgheri in the 1990s. The Redigaffi is perhaps Italy's greatest Merlot." Hugh Johnson.
