      The 2018 is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Aimed at younger drinkers, it's intended to be immediately approachable: only 10% of the wine spent time in oak, and not for very long, so the emphasis is on a fruity, accessible style. The nose is delicately balanced between dark blackberries, blackcurrants and bright red berries. Juicy flavours and vivid acidity give a nice freshness to this medium-bodied wine. Decanter

      "The 2018 Rosso dei Notri  is a very fresh and tonic red that surprisingly comes from fruit harvested two weeks later than normal. And Merlot is not always happy to stay on the vines for longer than it has to.       "This gorgeous 2018 Giusto di Notri (tasted in a preview capacity before its October 2020 release date) was born beautiful, or so I am told. The wine saw little racking and a hands-off approach, because it came seamlessly together on its own in the winery. Merlot was harvested first in mid-September, and the Cabernets came off the vines in October, without a cloud in the sky. The wine shows the heft and determination you should expect, although this vintage reveals a magically delicate and elegant side with aromas of blue flowers, spice and wild plums. Again, I am reminded of purely Tuscan aromas with wild sage, grilled rosemary and macchia mediterranea shrubs that grow wild in these parts. The wine is also light and fresh on the palate with a surprising degree of weightlessness, yet the persistence is long and polished." Robert Parker

      "This is a true Syrah-lover's wine. The wine shows the dark exuberance of a Californian Syrah or a Shiraz from Australia with the fragile elegance of a Côte-Rôtie. But when you really get down to it, the Tua Rita 2018 Syrah Per Sempre is all-Italian in heart and soul, forever, as its name implies. That's what makes it so exciting and interesting to try if you are otherwise smitten by this grape variety as I am. Stefano Frascolla tells me that of the various varieties he cultivates, Syrah is the most reactive to place and vintage. It is almost fragile in its demeanor compared to the more sturdy and sure-footed Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Syrah is a bit more finicky as well. It appreciates a long growing season, and that's exactly what it got in 2018. The grapes had ample time to ripen slowly, thus developing finesse and complexity along the way. This edition of Per Sempre offers deep intensity with dark fruits, plum and plenty of savory spice both from the oak aging and the grape itself (planted in a mix of clay and schist soils).     Tua Rita

    The winery is clearly among those in Italy that have cult status and enjoy an excellent reputation abroad. Not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea, picturesquely situated on a hill in the small medieval village of Suvereto, the initially small artisan business has developed over time into a modern enterprise. The area under cultivation has increased continuously from two hectares at the beginning to 30 hectares at the end. Founded by Virgilio Bisti and Rita Tua, the fate of the house after the death of her father is increasingly determined by daughter Simena and her dynamic husband Stefano Frascolla. In the Val di Cornia wines are produced, which can convert the joyful character of their terroir first-class.

    On the 50-hectare estate in the Maremma, the vineyards immediately behind the winery are characterised by low and moderately sloping slopes. They are planted with the red varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese and Syrah, as well as with the white varieties Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Riesling, Traminer, Ansonica and Vermentino. Depending on the location, the density of planting varies between 5,000 and 9,000 vines per hectare. The grapes are picked by hand and sorted in the cellar. The soils are medium-heavy, stony and loamy, with clay and sand components and are also rich in mineral trace elements such as zinc and iron.

    The extraordinary reputation of Tua Rita is based above all on the Redigaffi, which has become a showpiece since the nineties. It is a pure Merlot, full of character and radiating sensual artistry. However, this excellent plant is no longer without competition at the top of all the labels of the house, since other products - such as the Syrah and the Bordeaux blend Giusto di Notri - are always very well known in the professional world. All the wines of the Tuscan winery - including seven red ones - are admirable, very well structured and modern.

    After the turn of the millennium, the wine cellar was expanded and redesigned for the production of high-profile products. Through minimalism and controlled inactivity, the very high quality of the noble drops is carefully preserved right into the bottle. The annual output of Tua Rita has long since left the four-digit range and has jumped to over 200,000 bottles to date. SUPERIORE.DE
