Pecorino Bianco Controguerra DOC 2023
Straw yellow in colour, with a fine, rich aroma of ripe fruit and white flowers, reminiscent of meadow herbs and citrus fruits. Slightly spicy flavour, full-bodied and beautifully persistent. Good balance between structure and softness. SUPERIORE.DE
"A delightful nose of citrus blossom and green-apple candy perfectly sets up a palate that leads with the same notes, then turns grassy and salty as acid tingles in your mouth." Wine Enthusiast

“Alanera” Rosso Veneto IGT 2019
Part of the grapes of the Alanera are air-dried before fermentation in the appassimento process to promote the concentration of the aromas. Dark ruby red. On the nose, the scent of dried and fresh cherries, plus a little coffee and sweet tobacco. On the palate then berry-fresh with a nice acid wire and fine tannins. A full, round wine for many occasions. SUPERIORE.DE
"A fusion of traditional regional grape varieties with proportions of Merlot (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). A touch of appassimento adds girth and a hint of mahogany-tinged cherry sweetness to the mid palate. Herbal bitters, juice and amaro overlay the finish." James Suckling
"This wine has forward aromas of black plum and blueberry pie. Though not an Amarone, the winery partially dries 50% of the grapes for a few months creating a wine made from both fresh fruit and dried fruit. This creates a wine that is lush and rich on the palate, but vibrant and intense in equal proportions. It is silky smooth, with a long finish of spiced plums and dried herbs." Wine Enthusiast

“Spezieri” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Ruby red colour, fresh nose of red fruits and spices. Pleasant flavour: fruity, balanced in tannin and acidity, very lively and crisp. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby red colour. Still somewhat restrained on the nose, of ripe cherry, rosehip and cloves. Opens on the palate with clear fruit and animating acidity, fine, young tannins." Falstaff
"This tightly wound red's chewy tannins maintain a stranglehold on the wild strawberry and cherry fruit. Accents of earth and tobacco add detail, yet the finish feels pinched for now." Wine Spectator
"The nose balances savory, slightly astringent aromas of coffee, soil, pepper and balsamic with sweeter notes of cherries and blackberries. That berry element glows on the palate, but an enduring peppery earthiness preserves the balance. Firm tannins usher the acid into a sophisticated, salty finish." Wine Enthusiast

The Lucchine is rich and firm with beautiful cherry fruit and sweet spices on the palate. A juicy and inexpensive wine from a good vineyard that gives us great pleasure every year. SUPERIORE.DE
"The only Valpolicella without oak. This wine resembles a more mature Bardolino or, to put it this way, a Venetian Beaujolais, as it is so lively and vibrant. Light and juicy, with a thread of crisp acidity that carries sour red fruits, plums and dried herbs long and easy. Delicious! One of the best young Valpolicella I've tasted in a while." James Suckling

Valpolicella DOC 2022
Brigaldara's Valpolicella is mainly made from Corvina and Corvinone grapes. The timing of the harvest is very important for this wine, so that its flavours are very delicate and its sensory balance is influenced by the precisely measured acidity. It expresses the characteristic flavours of the valley: from cherries to spicy notes, which are more or less pronounced depending on the vintage. Its beautiful and radiant balance is achieved by a short maturation in steel, which perfectly enhances its sensory characteristics. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine is a classic example of Valpolicella with aromas of fresh raspberries and dried cranberries mixed with thyme, sage and forest floor leading to a lively palate. Driven by sour cherries, the palate is indulgent and generous, and the more it opens up, the more spicy and floral notes add complexity." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2022 Valpolicella is wonderfully fresh, with a gorgeous blend of violets and roses giving way to muddled blackberries and an air of crushed chalk. Incredibly pure, this flows across the palate with a juicy wave of ripe wild berry fruits. It finishes crisp, with a tart cranberry concentration and inner florals that linger on." Vinous

“Sedàra” Rosso Sicilia DOC 2021
Marvellous cuvée based on Nero d'Avola. Ruby red with lively garnet-coloured reflections. Intense aroma with hints of blackcurrant, tobacco, spices and mineral notes. The balanced flavour is characterised by red fruits and impresses on the palate with blackberry and sour cherry tones, final with a final of good length. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Sedàra is perfumed and floral with a mix of earth tones and wild herbs to balance. It's soft textured with a blend of wild berries and spice guided by brisk acidity. This finishes with admirable length and potent, leaving gently grippy tannins and balsamic spice hints." Vinous
"The nose is primarily spicy, with dominant aromas of earth and coffee, black cherry undertones and a crackle of pepper. The palate is livelier, with more pronounced fruit and the vibrancy of orange marmalade and wild fennel. The tannins are polished yet structured, like a well-tailored suit." Wine Enthusiast

“Controdanza” Rosso Sicilia Noto DOC 2020
The country dance (controdanza) is a typical dance in which man and woman face each other and unite in graceful movements - depending on their gender, the dancers interpret the music in their own way. This wine is exactly the same: Nero d'Aola and Merlot - opposites attract and, with the right sensitivity, can harmonise and contrast wonderfully.
Strong purple colour. Mulberry and plum contrast with incense and balsamic notes. The grapes all come from chalky soils, which in turn creates a bridge and makes this young wine balanced and harmonious. Soft tannins and a beautifully integrated, delicate acidity carry Controdanza into a supple, medium-length finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium ruby colour with garnet-red reflections. Inviting on the nose, fruity flavours of cherry and wild berries, underpinned by spicy notes. Full fruit on the palate, dense tannins, mouth-filling, juicy with a lingering final." Falstaff
"Fragrant, with floral, spicy and mineral accents, this wine displays a creamy palette of plump cherry and warm fig fruit flavours, enveloping slightly chewy tannins. Fresh, long-lasting finish." Wine Spectator
"Aromas of baked cherries, mushrooms, basil and grated nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied with fine tannins. Beautifully ripe red fruits on the palate, with a subtle savoury character. Finishes with vanilla." James Suckling
"The nose starts with a balanced blend of vanilla and herbs, then becomes a little sharper, but remains balanced with flavours of pepper, pencil shavings and black cherries. On the palate, the tension between fruit and earth continues, with the cherries hovering over herbal, umami undertones. The acidity dances past the chewy tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2020 Controdanza opens with a burst of wild berries and spices, complicated by chalk dust and hints of crushed violet candies. This is juicy and lively on the palate with vivid wild blueberry fruit and purple/blue inner florals that amass toward the close. It finishes classically dry with a pleasantly bitter tinge, leaving notes of licorice and sage to slowly fade." Vinous

Frappato Sicilia Vittoria DOC 2022 (BIO)
A single-varietal Frappato is a rarity, as this very late-ripening grape variety is usually blended with others. Frappato thrives on the sandy soils of Vittoria in south-east Sicily and produces a complex wine with race and character. A floral bouquet with aromas of cherry and peach, notes of strawberry on the palate, slightly mineral and very energetic, with a finish reminiscent of apple and orange peel. Ideal food companion. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Frappato is remarkably pretty, with an aroma of wild flowers, lavender, wild strawberries and wet stones. It is juicy and pure in style with peppery wild berry and sour citrus nuances. The finish is smooth, yet lively and entertaining, enticing the taster to drink more. The 2022 is an absolutely beautiful Frappato." Vinous
"A wonderfully fresh and lively Frappato with orange peel, dried cherries and a hint of watermelon. Medium body. Light tannins and a crisp finish." James Suckling
"Hibiscus tea, freeze-dried strawberry, wild cherries, warm bricks and candied orange peel on the nose meet a subtle earthiness. On the palate, a squeeze of orange and a sprinkle of salt underscore both the sweetness and the astringency of the fruit, while tannins and acid sit back and relax." Wine Enthusiast

Cerasuolo di Vittoria DOCG 2022 (BIO)
Cerasuolo di Vittoria - an established local red with great tradition and just as much character. Typical aroma of the wines from Vittoria: Aromas of red berries, cherries, prickly pear, ginger and fruit sweets. Flavoursome, extremely complex, fresh, lively and yet balanced. SUPERIORE.DE
"Notes of juicy cherries and boysenberries are underscored by tar, smoke and grilled herbs in this lively, light to medium-bodied red wine that finishes silky and savoury." Wine Spectator
"On the nose, there are aromas of cherry blossom, raspberry and blood orange, as well as spicy notes of pencil shavings and black tea. On the palate, cherries and raspberries macerate, but the sanguine, almost chalky bitterness of the tea leaves lingers before a salted chocolate finish." Wine Enthusiast
pepand floral, the 2022 Cerasuolo di Vittoria wafts up with a spicy blend of crushed wild berries and savory herbs. This opens with a pretty inner sweetness and crisp red and blue fruits. Tantalizing acidity refreshes the palate toward the close. It tapers off classically dry yet fresh and floral, leaving a violet resonance to fade." Vinous

Valpolicella DOC 2022
This traditional cuvée is already inspiring in its youth. Made from outstanding grapes, you can taste the ripe fruit and richness of the three classic vineyards. Deep ruby-garnet colour with violet reflections. Full bouquet of ripe cherries, some plum, herbs and orange zest. Juicy and complex on the finish, very long finish with a fine salt vein and subtle fruit sweetness. Drinkable! SUPERIORE.DE
"The nose of this fresh Valpolicella is characterised by pretty and superficially fresh floral notes, followed by tangy notes of red berries and a hint of tobacco. On the palate, fresh cherries, mixed herbs and undergrowth - all well balanced - give the wine a lightness and at the same time a complexity that keeps you coming back for more." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2022 Valpolicella Classico wafts up with a sweetly scented bouquet of dusty violets and roses, giving way to confectionary spice and crushed cherries. This is juicy in style, with crisp wild berry fruits and minty herbal tones accelerated by juicy acidity. It finishes long and perfumed, with a coating of gentle tannin that adds lovely punctuation. The 2022 is a beautifully refined Valpolicella." Vinous

“Calafuria” Negroamaro Rosato Salento IGT 2022
The Negroamaro grapes for the extremely delicate Calafuria come from vineyards that stretch along the Adriatic coast in Salento. The region boasts a long tradition of producing rosé wines from Negroamaro, a grape variety that best expresses its potential near the sea. Pale pink, fruity citrus notes of grapefruit and orange blossom on the nose, hints of jasmine. Pleasantly fresh on the palate with excellent aromatic persistence and a delicate flavour. SUPERIORE.DE
"Juicy nose of vineyard peach, yellow stone fruits, medlar. Crisp and lively on the palate, with some peach-mango added here. Yellow fruity and exotic, the latter mainly supported by a fine fruit acidity. Refined, juice and power, dense, good structure, and that with a nice but not intrusive primary fruit." Vinum
"Bright pink with orange reflections. Intense nose of fresh wild berries and stone fruit, a hint of spice in the finish. On the palate fruity-sweet, juicy and drinky, fun, fruity final." Falstaff

“Rubio” Rosso Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Brilliant ruby red colour. Intense bouquet of small red berries, cherries and a violet-spice component. Warm and full flavours of forest fruits and cherries on the palate, flanked by a solid tannin structure. The finish is soft and long, medium-bodied and very elegant. SUPERIORE.DE
"Light ruby red with violet reflections. Lots of violets and cherries on the nose, mineral notes. Juicy, refreshing on the palate, animating acidity structure, delicate tannins, subtly salty on the finish." Falstaff
"The nose is smoky, sanguine, peppery and earthy, but then opens up with aromas of blood orange, blackberry and black cherry. More pepper and earth with red plum on the palate preserve the overall sanguine feel, while the bitterness of an enduring blood orange note bites back against taut tannins and bright acid." Wine Enthusiast
"Aromas of redcurrants and cherries with spiced orange peel, red liquorice and cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, compact and concentrated with depth and a velvety texture. Well integrated and long-lasting." James Suckling

“Lamuri” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2020
Ruby red colour, appealing, slightly reductive aroma of ripe blackberries and elderberries, quite dense on the palate, certain fruit sweetness, good harmony between juicy acidity and velvety tannins, elegant finish with traces of cassis. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Tenuta Regaleali Tasca d'Almerita 2020 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Lamùri opens with a dark colour and a rich concentration of pressed blackberries, Mediterranean herbs, black olives and scorched earth. You can feel the fruit concentration of a hot and sunny vintage." Wine Advocate
"The Nero d'Avola Lamuri 2020 opens slowly in the glass, dusty and floral with floral undergrowth and smouldering ash stone forming its bouquet. It is soft and pure in style, with mineral-tinged red and black fruits accompanied by a lively acidity. On the finish, tart notes of wild berries and citrus fruits leave a bitter aftertaste." Vinous
"On the nose, this wine develops rich floral and fruity aromas of black cherry, violet and rose petals as well as stony notes of cobblestones and gravel. On the palate, it shows its best side. A savoury blend of spices, earth and a hint of balsamic vinegar meets more berries. The tannins are strong and chewy, and the acidity is restrained." Wine Enthusiast
"It's a Nero of striking density and intensity but with excellent balance. Earthy dark fruit aromas complement the sticky, spicy palate, with streaks of chocolate, salt and fresh herbs." Decanter
"A very solid and beautiful red with blackberries, asphalt and violets. Underneath it all is a berry compote. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a juicy finish." James Suckling

“Azisa” Grillo Sicilia DOC 2022
Medium-deep straw yellow colour with a fresh sheen. Fragrant, lively bouquet of lime, orange oil, stone and tropical fruits and sweet spices. The palate is lively and light, with a fine salty component that gives this fresh, delicious white wine its unmistakable character and lovely flow. The finish is very Mediterranean with a creamy hint of exoticism. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pale straw yellow with a green tinge. Elegantly restrained on the nose, some candied apricots, orange zest and a hint of camomile. Balanced on the palate, delicate melting, moderate acidity, animating final." Falstaff
"It is flavoursome and zesty with notes of lemons, sliced pears and white flowers. Lively and crisp with a medium body and a fresh, citrusy finish." James Suckling
"The citrusy, springy nose features a glimmer of lemon flashing around tulips, honey, grass and a handful of salted almonds. The palate breeds consistency, as the notes of honey, lemon, grass and salt all persist to create a round fullness, but acid keeps everyone accountable." Wine Enthusiast

Wine Enthusiast is one of the most internationally renowned wine magazines and was founded in 1988 by the American wine enthusiasts and current owners Adam and Sybil Strum. In search of the world's most interesting wines, the fourteen annual issues of the lifestyle magazine deal with wine-related topics such as travel, food and events.
Published in the state of New York, Wine Enthusiast is aimed at wine lovers from all over the world, for whom a team of experts evaluates more than 25,000 international wines every year according to the 100-point scheme.
This 12-member tasting team was joined in 2013 by the American wine journalist Kerin O'Keefe, who - just like us - is interested in top Italian wines. Today, she heads the evaluation jury for Italian wines and is meanwhile also responsible for the Italian editorial team of Wine Enthusiast, where she also dedicates herself to lesser-known wine styles.
The magazine has become famous, among other things, for its Top 100 list of "Best Buys", which every year shows wine enthusiasts the way to the best-rated Italian wines under 15 dollars, whereas the "Editors Choice" section focuses on the highest qualities, regardless of price. And those who are still looking for Italy's most storable wines will find them, along with the recommended storage time, in the "Cellar Selection" list. SUPERIORE.DE
