“Costa di Giulia” Bianco Bolgheri DOC 2022
Independent and full of character - an almost exotic white wine from the noble Bolgheri DOC appellation. It smells of blossoms, peach, mint and melon and shows the mineral richness of the ancient grape variety Vermentino and the wonderfully fresh gooseberry aroma of Sauvignon Blanc on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Bolgheri Bianco Costa di Giulia 2022, a Vermentino/Sauvignon Blanc blend from Satta, is bright, steely and crisp, making it a good choice to drink now and over the next two to three years. Orchard fruit, white pepper, salt, mint and citrus give it brightness." Vinous
"Bright silver straw yellow. Very restrained on the nose. On the palate then very juicy with crisp acidity, with green-spicy play, fresh and crystalline in the finish, dry." Falstaff
"Spicy menthol nose, elderflower, smartly topped with notes of hay; compact in the mouth, the acidity perfectly integrated but also subtle saltiness." Vinum

Syrah Toscana IGT 2020
Satta's almost black-purple Syrah with an extraordinary bouquet of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, tar and graphite shines with richness and intensity. Not a flatterer, but not an edgy representative either - a sensational wine for today and the years to come. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, bright ruby red. Compact on the nose with fine spice, blueberry, elderberry and dark chocolate. Supple on the palate entry, round and full mouthfeel, elegant, with rich fruit and lingering finish." Falstaff
"Lots of Mediterranean spices, wild herbs, black earth and sour cherries on the nose. Juicy and fresh with fleshy cherries and berries on the palate, rounded off by soft, silky tannins. Very drinkable now, but also capable of ageing." James Suckling
"The 2020 Syrah is full of Maremma character. Dark and brooding, the 2020 offers tons of depth but with no excess heaviness. Tobacco, scorched earth, leather and cloves build nicely in a mid-weight, layered Syrah that has so much to offer. Give this a few months to soften." Vinous

“Giovin Re” Bianco di Toscana IGT 2021
Michele Satta's Viognier is sophisticated and seductive and therefore the object of desire for wine lovers all over the world. Its inimitable bouquet of apricot and peach exudes an almost cheerful florality. A dense white wine that spreads softly and with a beautiful freshness on the palate and lingers long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 GiovinRe is a very pretty Viognier. Gentle touches of apricot, white flowers, mint and tangerine oil open nicely. The 2021 offers lovely brightness to complement the natural richness of Viognier. Aging in a combination of cement, oak and amphora works nicely for this expressive, tasty white." Vinous
"Bright sparkling golden yellow with copper glints. Intense nose of dried apricot, reverberating with hints of fine cedar and cloves. Good salinity on the palate, pleasant freshness, vertical in the course, with a mineral-salty final." Falstaff

“Piastraia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2020
Piastraia fully corresponds to the classic image of a great Bolgheri Rosso Superiore. Made from a quarter each of Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, it fills the glass with its intense scent of fruit and a hint of leather aromas. The taste is strong, concentrated and pure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very typical Bolgheri scent with ripe red and blue fruits and the spicy terroir note. Juicy, with grippy tannin, polished, finely contoured, builds powerfully on the palate with lovely freshness, well infused with fine-grained acidity, clasped by firm tannin. Potential." Weinwisser
"Powerfully shining ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Open and very accessible nose, lots of ripe berry notes, of cassis and blackberries, plus some dark tobacco, underpinned by spicy components. On the palate very full-bodied, grippy, hearty tannin, dark fruit, has very good potential, lots of pressure." Falstaff
"Intriguing aromatics of red berries and flowers, also herbal and spicy notes; punchy construction, powerful yet fine-grained tannins, spot-on evolution, long seductive chocolate berry finish." Vinum

“Cavaliere” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019
Bright dark ruby, intense and inviting nose with a pronounced aroma of dark fruits, especially blackberry, with some liquorice behind. Firm and gripping on the palate with taut tannins, the Cavaliere shows its animating (Sangiovese) style over the course of the wine and keeps a good pressure until the long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, full ruby red. Opens filigree and with fine fruit notes on dark cherry, plums, plus some eucalyptus and sage. On the palate with precise fruit, nice interplay of racy acidity and firm tannin, balanced and with nice drinking flow on a long finish." Falstaff
"The 2019 Cavaliere, the estate's pure Sangiovese, is an eccentric wine. Sweet red cherry, spice, tobacco, menthol and leather show that extra inner sweetness and raciness that is so typical of Sangioveses from Maremma. There is a bit of reduction that is distracting and that makes the wine feel a bit unfocused. Even so, there is quite a bit to like here." Vinous
"Racy plums and cherries with hints of dusty licorice and orange zest that extend to a bright, vibrant palate, full of juicy red berries and svelte tannins. This is juicy, linear and lively." James Suckling

“Marianova” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2016
This is the second vintage of the currently only Bolgheri Superiore, which is produced apart from the classic French Bordeaux grape varieties. It consists of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Syrah. Two grape varieties that the Sattas have studied for several decades and whose quality has convinced us and the international critics for many years. Marianova combines great aromatic breadth with a gigantic drinking pleasure and at the same time underlines the great individuality of the winery like no other wine.
Bright ruby red. In the nose a potpourri of spicy notes: spicy the Syrah and crisp the Sangiovese. Small red ripe berries and some blackberry essence mix with moist soil, smoke, tree bark and tar. This exceptional wine is carried by a bouquet of dark fruits and a fresh acidity, its impressive finish is infinitely long and powerful. SUPERIORE.DE
"3250 bottles are pressed by this Sangiovese and Syrah selection in its second vintage: an enchanting bouquet of cherries and spices; a smooth course with very well integrated powerful tannins and invigorating acidity, shows elegance until the final. Vinum
"Brilliant ruby violet with a slightly bright edge. A lot of present fruit, like mulberries and blueberries, in addition dark cherries, some spicy macchia smoke. A dense tannin with a sweet core, develops for a long time with a lot of pressure, tobacco in the final." Falstaff
"Marianova is the first Bolgheri Superiore to be made without any Bordeaux varietals. Instead it's a 50/50 blend of Syrah and Sangiovese, the idea of Michele Satta’s son Giacomo, first produced in 2015. Ruby red and restrained, it's focussed on vibrant raspberry and cherry aromas layered with indian spice notes and a touch of leathery character. It shows a firm yet ripe tannic structure with chewy acidity and a great savoury finish of toasted notes and prunes." Decanter
"Aromas of currants, crushed berries and walnuts, as well as chocolate. Full body, juicy tannins and beautiful fruit at the end. Big wine that needs time to soften. A blend of sangiovese and syrah." James Suckling
"On first nose, the 2016 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova (equal parts Syrah and Sangiovese) shows savory and barbecue-like aromas with teriyaki sauce and hickory smoke followed by plummy fruit and blackberry preserves. There is a note of sweetness with lots of spice, leather and tobacco at the edges. Of Michele Satta's releases, this wine is the most unlike him in that it is the most contemporary and enriched. This is the second vintage of Marianova (the winery’s latest creation) to be released." Wine Advocate

“Marianova” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2018
This is the second vintage of the currently only Bolgheri Superiore that is produced apart from the classic French Bordeaux grape varieties. It consists of 50% Sangiovese and 50% Syrah. Two grape varieties that the Sattas have studied for several decades and whose quality has convinced us and the international critics for many years. Marianova combines great aromatic breadth with gigantic drinking pleasure and at the same time underlines the great individuality of the winery like no other wine.
Bright ruby red. A potpourri of spicy notes on the nose: spicy from the Syrah and crisp from the Sangiovese. Small red ripe berries and some blackberry essence mingle with damp earth, smoke, tree bark and tar. This exceptional wine is carried by a bouquet of dark fruits and a fresh acidity, its impressive finish is endlessly long and powerful. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, rich ruby. Eröffnet with fine notes of raspberry and blackberry, shows itself open and accessible. Firm, gripping tannin on the palate, grippy, salty and spicy, still a bit rough on the final." Falstaff
"Marianova is the blend which debuted when Michele Satta's son Giacomo joined the winery. It comprises 50% Syrah and 50% Sangiovese fermented in oak (including malolactic fermentation) with 30% of whole bunch grapes aged in oak and amphora. Mostly ruby, focused on raspberry and black pepper with depth of graphite minerality, shows a graceful palate, ripe and crunchy, tense due to a firm acidity with a slightly bitter finish which enhances the length." Decanter
"This compact red evokes blackberry, black currant, leather and black pepper flavors, with formidable tannins leaving an astringent finish. Needs time." Wine Spectator
"Lots of violet, spice and dark-fruit aromas follow through to a full body with firm, chewy tannins that are focused and fine-textured. Savory finish. Drinkable now, but better in 2023." James Suckling
"The 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Marianova is the finest wine I have tased from Satta. It offers superb depth and varietal intensity but with no excess weight at all. Sweet dark cherry, tobacco, menthol, licorice, incense and dried herbs soar out of the glass. There is an understated intensity here that is absolutely beguiling. A spine of supporting tannins lends energy. This heady Maremma red is a total knock-out. What a wine!" Vinous

An important difference between Michele Satta and other big names like Ornellaia, Sassicaia or Grattamacco is that the determined and very likeable wine producer in Bolgheri runs the oldest winery that belongs to a winemaker. Satta founded its winery in Castagneto Carducci at a time when wine-growing in the Tuscan region was in its infancy and great successes were still to come. The path taken by the innovative winemaker was new in Bolgheri at the time. Thus he - supported by his wife Lucy from the very beginning in his decisions - not only focused on the international varieties Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, but also on the noble Sangiovese vine. The first harvest in 1990 showed how great their potential was. Nevertheless, this fascinating grape variety is still not very widespread in the still rather young growing area.
Having purchased the land, bought the first vineyards in 1988, planted the first plants and set up a functional cellar, Michele Satta soon began to enlarge and enrich his initially still very small vine kingdom. In 1991 the top vineyards Castagni, Poderini, La Torre, Vignanuova and Costa di Giulia were added, as well as another ten hectares. All vineyards are managed by a team with a lot of personal dedication. They look more like a lovingly maintained suburban garden than an agricultural area. After the expansion, the wines of the bottle battery, which is now wide with nine products, steadily improved in quality. All the grape varieties are vinified and matured separately in the cellar before being used later for wines such as the Bolgheri Rosso Piastraia, often award-winning and consisting equally of Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese.
The Kreszenzen pressed by Michele Satta - some of them unpolished and rich in tannins - are perceived by wine lovers as authentic and expressive. Sometimes they are overripe, sometimes they are unripe. Hardly any wine shows a stylistic consistency over the years. Therefore, it is often difficult to tell which plant is the flagship of the winegrower who stands steadfastly by his convictions and sometimes swims against the current. If, on the other hand, the prices are the sole yardstick, the Piastraia and the Bolgheri Rosso Superiore I Castagni are the top products of the house. Last but not least: Wine and culture are closely linked, according to the efficient wine maker Satta. That's why the winery also becomes a small concert stage from time to time. SUPERIORE.DE
"Meanwhile Michele Satta belongs to the renowned enterprises of the cultivation zone. His creatures understand well how to interpret the potential of the terroir in a stylistically original way."Gambero Rosso
