“L’Alberello” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2018 (BIO)
L'Alberello is a beautiful Bolgheri Superiore made primarily from Cabernet. Starts fresh and vehement with warm, dark fruit aromas, then opens up further with a bouquet of herbs, coffee and a pinch of pepper. Remarkably polished and juicy on the palate, everything is in balance, silky and very charismatic on the long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Spicy wild berry aromas, notes of undergrowth and herbs, also pepper; powerful and dense on the palate, spicy berry finish, pleases with its opulent make." Vinum
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a light garnet shimmer. Very clear and precise nose, of ripe wild raspberries, in addition red and black currant, fine spice. On the palate grippy, dense tannin, shows fine play, very juicy, salty and long lasting in the final." Falstaff
"The iron, sanguine and cedar notes that mingle with flavors of black currant and black cherry give this red an Old World character. Fluid, complex and harmonious, this is deceptively open now." Wine Spectator
"This is a really racy and linear red with blackberries, blackcurrants and hints of chocolate and cedar. It's full-bodied with long, firm tannins and an intense finish. Shows coolness and strength but is not overpowering. Nice touch of sage and mint at the end. First year with only cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc." James Suckling

“Grattamacco” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2018 (BIO)
Bright, rich ruby red. Fine, elegant bouquet with fruit aromas, notes of coffee and complex spice aromas. The taste is long-lasting, the acidity in perfect balance with the tannin and body. A wine with great tension and personality, suitable for long ageing, but also a delight in its youth. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep ruby red; aromas of black plum, lavender and peppermint. Medium-full with a rich mid-palate with layers of perfectly ripe fruit. Very good acidity, medium-full tannins that are beautifully balanced, nicely integrated wood notes and outstanding persistence. Another brilliant wine from this great producer!" Forbes Magazine
"Elegant odeur of warm-scented raspberries, also nuances of Mediterranean maquis, lots of melt and juice, invigorating acidity, finishes long. Accompanies an autumnal game dish." Vinum
"Dark ruby red with violet edges. Dense, very intense bouquet, immensely multifaceted, exudes a certain lightness with a clearly mineral backdrop, reminiscent of graphite and iron, despite the new wood ageing. Grandiose, because it almost floats. In the mouth, very fine and precisely proportioned, not made for power, but for origin. Impressive final with blue berries." Weinwisser
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Exciting and multi-layered nose, initially showing fine notes of cedar, a little resinous, then full of fresh currants and raspberries. Very juicy on the palate, opens with fine-meshed, grippy tannin, salty and long." Falstaff
"The 2018 vintage - according to the estate - produced elegant wines, characterised by their aromatic intensity. If Sangiovese usually brings tension to Grattamacco compared to other Bolgheri superiore based on Bordeaux blends, this year it reveals a slightly greenish touch on the finish. However there is in the glass a great intensity of earthy tones among black pepper and game, then cassis and cedar wood flavours sustained by silky tannins well integrated with firm acidity and just a bit austere finish." Decanter
"Currants, blackberries and hints of chocolate and fresh herbs. Full-bodied and round-tannined with a lovely texture and a savory, almost iron finish. From organically grown grapes. Hard not to drink now, but a year or two will bring it even more together." James Suckling
"A mix of coffee and black olive flavors shade the core of black currant and black cherry in this dense, linear red, which is focused and long, with a mouthwatering finish." Wine Spectator

“Grattamacco 35 anni” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
Sparkling ruby red. Fine, elegant bouquet with fruit aromas, notes of coffee and complex spice aromas. The taste is long-lasting, the acidity in perfect balance with tannin and body. A wine with great personality, suitable for long ageing, but also in its youth already a delight. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, rich ruby red. Appealing and clearly marked nose with notes of ripe dark cherries, blackberries and currants. Very juicy and with good tension on the palate, fine, grippy tannin, well-defined, compact berry fruit, firm pressure on the final." Falstaff
"A beautiful red with berry, spice, light chocolate and clove. Medium-to full-bodied with round tannins and a flavorful finish. Such finesse and beauty for this hot vintage." James Suckling
"The 2017 Grattamacco is a wine of breadth and power. Wild cherry, spice, sage, mint rose petal, cedar, licorice, sweet pipe tobacco and dried herbs all give the 2017 striking aromatic depth to play off its grand scale. The 2017 is rich and deep, and yet retains striking translucence and wonderful detail." Vinous
"Lush and saturated with black currant, plum, cedar, iron, tobacco and toasty oak aromas and flavors, this red is bursting with energy and complexity. It's nicely balanced, with a resonant finish that echoes the flavors and goes on and on. Very youthful and fresh." Wine Spectator
"Congratulations to Grattamacco on the 35th anniversary of this iconic wine. The fruit represents a special selection from over 25 hectares of vines planted in a mix of soils with clay, sandstone, limestone marl and flysch. In fact, the territorial impact on the wine's bouquet is strong with dusty or salty notes that frame dark fruit, dried cherry and toasted spice. This wine shows polished elegance, and that's something that was not easy to achieve in this hot vintage." Robert Parker
"The contribution of Sangiovese in the blend of Grattamacco makes it a distinctive Bolgheri Superiore. If on the nose Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are prevailing with cassis fruit, cedar and kiwi, full of balsamic depth, the indigenous grape pushes the fragrance of the wine with chewy wild fruit flavours. An exceptional expression in the hot vintage. Complex and layered, without any foursquare character, this organic wine is waiting for extra complexity over its liquorice finish." Decanter

The Grattamacco winery was founded in 1977 between the towns of Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri. Claudio Tipa, a native Sicilian and former industrialist, has been managing the Grattamacco estate in the Bolgheri noble growing area since 2002 - first as tenant - meanwhile as owner with much passion and high competence. It is part of his own small Colle Massari Spa wine empire.
Tipa's own wine estates Poggio di Sotto and Tenuta San Giorgio in the Montalcino region and Colle Massari in the Maremma region also belong to the Tuscan company, where he is supported by his wife Maria and sister Maria-Iris. Those who visit Grattamacco, located on a hill between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, are rewarded with a marvelous panorama of the Tuscan coast. The extremely charming farm extends over 80 hectares, of which a good 29 hectares are planted with vines and fourteen with olives. Surrounded by 1,200 hectares of woodland, the estate is considered a model for the entire wine-growing zone. Its flagship is the splendid Bolgheri Superiore Grattamacco, which is regularly praised by wine critics.
The estate owner of Podere Grattamacco is considered by experts as one of the most conscientious and best organized vintners of Italian viticulture. Since Tipa has been running the estate, the elegant drops of the wide-ranging assortment have gained in fascination and stylistic definition, according to wine testers. Before, the owner had done pioneer work for more than 20 years and had decisively contributed to Bolgheri becoming a region of great red wines. Since Claudio Tipa successfully faced the hard competition on the wine market immediately after his entry, the small vintner business has meanwhile left behind its character as a noble niche business.
On the vineyards, which reach an altitude of about 100-200 meters above sea level, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon is cultivated (share of about 60 percent). Smaller parts are planted with Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The white grape variety cultivated on the slopes is exclusively Vermentino. The soils of the Grattamacco vineyards are sandy at lower altitudes, lime and marl at higher altitudes.
In the winery, the utmost care is taken down to the smallest detail. The hand-picked grapes ferment in small wooden vats. The far-sighted winery owner deliberately refrains from adding pure yeasts to control the fermentation. The malolactic fermentation is spontaneous and ends after the wine has already been transferred into barrique barrels. Until the creation of the cuvées, all grape varieties are vinified separately in the estate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Although Grattamacco dates back to the 1970s and can be considered a long-established winery in Bolgheri, it certainly doesn't lack dynamism and surprising developments." Gambero Rosso
