“Fontanasanta” Manzoni Bianco Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 (BIO)

A small marvel, perfectly harmonized with multilayered aromas of tropical fruits, apples and honey. A highly interesting white wine that is far more than casual enjoyment, because it offers an exceedingly full, well-structured taste. Fermented in the red wine process with the skins. Strong yellow with golden reflexes. Intensely fragrant of dried herbs, incense, candied lemon peel and a hint of bitter orange. On the palate, fresh citrus notes, an exciting acid arc and a powerful structure lead into a very long finish, crowned by a hint of bitter almonds. Very complex and a wonderful food companion." SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Foradori Manzoni Bianco Fontanasanta really excites all of the senses. Its luminous golden color shimmers in the glass, as a wild bouquet of crushed stone, lime and floral undergrowth reaches up. There’s tart citrus and salty minerals that sizzle, as ripe green apple and savory herbal tones gain momentum, growing in volume toward the finale. And then, its structure, which slightly dries out the experience toward the close, but tempts the imagination to wonder what else may come after a few years in the cellar. Thoughts of white Burgundy come to mind while hovering over this impressive glass of wine." Vinous

"The Foradori 2019 Manzoni Bianco Fontanasanta opens to a bright golden color with some faint copper or greenish highlights. A portion of the wine is aged in clay amphorae. The bouquet is somewhat neutral with loads of pear, Golden Delicious apple and quince. There's nothing too fragrant or floral. Instead, the wine is grounded in unmistakable orchard fruit aromas that color both the bouquet and the wine's flavor profile. You also get honey, saffron and candied orange peel. The wine ends with a touch of mineral dryness, like broken slate or crushed terracotta, that contributes to the tight, almost tannic finish." Robert Parker

"Unique aromas of lemon drops and dried limes with hay and candied pineapple, following through to a full body with layers of fruit and a wonderful flavors of peaches and nectarines, as well as some tile and stone. Creamy texture." James Suckling

    • "Sgarzon" Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2018 (BIO)

“Sgarzon” Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2018 (BIO)

Sgarzon is a single vineyard, little more than a kilometre from Morei as the crow flies, but here the Noce has deposited more sand in the upper soil layers, the plot is more open and so less protected from cold winds. The grapes ripen about a week later. Teroldego Sgarzon is fabulous, delicate yet full of richness and energy from the attack to the final. The bouquet - an exciting mix of dark fruits, tobacco, flowers, liquorice, mint and minerals. At the palate very clear, pure and clean. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Foradori Teroldego Sgarzon is dark and brooding in the glass, as if black ashen stones had been crushed, and within them was a mix of wild berry, currants, tobacco and moist earth. However, there’s a lift and purity to its fruit, as the wine coasts across a mix of zesty acids and minerals, coming across as energetic, contrasted by a twang of sour cranberry. A hint of grippy tannin lingers along with tart primary fruits, leading me to believe that a few years in the cellar will reveal even further depths. This wine was tasted over the course of two days, and it only got better the longer it was opened." Vinous

"From a vineyard with gravel and sandy soils, Foradori's 2018 Teroldego Sgarzon is floral and fruity with dried cherry, raspberry and wild rose. The wine is fermented in clay amphorae on the skins, and this adds a point of extra structure and determination. But the mouthfeel is lovely really, leaving a silky and polished impression." Robert Parker

"Blackcurrants, wild raspberries, cloves, dried violets and lavender with some ink. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins and incredible depth of fresh and crushed berries, evolving into dried thyme, lavender and crushed shells. Very long finish. Firmness and minerality to this." Elisabetta Foradori presses only 8,000 bottles of Fuoripista Pinot Grigio from the biodynamic vineyards of Campo Rotaliano every year. The wine is fermented for eight months on the skins in Tinajas (Spanish amphoras) and matures slowly, then reveals the delicate character of the Pinot Grigio and the forgotten diversity of Trentino. “Fontanasanta” Nosiola Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2018 (BIO)

Nosiola - an ancient grape variety of Trentino - was once cultivated all over the country. Today, its cultivation is limited to the mountains and valleys of Trento. The Nosiola vine produces wines of great finesse and longevity. Elisabetta's Nosiola also gains exceptional power and energy from biodynamics and aging in amphora. Give the Nosiola time and be patient: Only after sufficient aeration and at a serving temperature of about 13 degrees does this white reveal its full potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lots of stone, cooked pear and apple on the nose. A little volatile, because of little or no sulfur. Full-bodied and layered with lots of phenolic texture to the honey, pear and sliced green-apple flavors. Some fresh thyme and parsley. Plenty of fruit on the finish. Skin-contact wine." James Suckling

"Closed with a yellow wax capsule, the 2018 Nosiola Fontanasanta shows a light and luminous golden-straw color. Made with extended skin contact in amphorae, the wine presents apricot, honey, white grape skin and bitter almond. Those macerated flavors appear with greater intensity to the palate where the wine boasts the slight bite or crunch of its skin tannins. The wine's nutty, slightly bitter finish is followed by subtle stone fruit, pomelo and apricot." Robert Parker

    • "Morei" Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 (BIO)

“Morei” Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2019 (BIO)

The Teroldego of Foradori are all a great experience. Elisabetta presses highly interesting wines from the autochthonous grape variety from the foot of the Dolomites. And all of this purely biologically and partly also in amphorae.

Morei (dark in the Trentino dialect) is an original red wine, true to the terroir, yet of irresistible elegance and finesse. Warm, dense and mineral like the soil in which it grows. Morei is protected from cold north winds by the nearby, abruptly rising rock faces. The rock stores heat during the day, which radiates to the vineyard at night. The soil here is very stony, therefore relatively warm, dense, dark, mineral, just like the wine of the same name Morei Teroldego. The average age of the vines (30 years) also contributes to its depth of character. SUPERIORE.DE

“Granato” Teroldego Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT 2017 (BIO)

Granato convinces with its rich balsamic scent of sour cherries and red currants. Extract-rich and gentle, powerful and precise on the palate. A wine that reflects the long-standing consistency and competence of this winemaker. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Granato is a dark, rich and powerful wine; but that’s not to say it’s international in style, which is a common misconception regarding this flagship wine from Foradori. Masses of crushed cherry, currant, blueberry, tobacco, exotic spice and black, ashen earth form its captivating bouquet. The density of its textures nearly hides the bristling acidity and mounting tannins beneath, as notes of wild berry, savory herbs and saline-minerality saturate all that they touch. This mixture seems to slowly melt away, leaving hints of violet florals and a tug of tart fruits. The Granato is sourced from the estate’s oldest parcels in Campo Rotaliano, some planted as far back as 1938 as pergola-trained vines." Vinous

"The 2017 Granato is a pure expression of Teroldego with a sultry, dark color and inky concentration. Summer temperatures in 2017 were warm, but hail damaged 40% of the crop. The fact this wine was even made is a miracle. There is a lot of succulent and tart fruit here that recalls wild cherry and plum, with riper tones of black currant and blackberry that add extra richness and texture. Some stem inclusion is usually employed to make this wine, and its structure is fleshed out as a result. To summarize, this is a full-bodied vintage of Granato with little hints of the tart pomegranate fruit that grows on a tree right outside the winery door." Robert Parker

"This is really exotic with crushed berry, blueberry, blackberry, violet and sandalwood. It’s full-bodied and very layered with ultra fine tannins that are interspersed with beautiful, ripe fruit. The finish shows cherry, tea, bark and dried flowers. It’s very long and precise at the end. This needs at least four or five years to show what it has, but so beautiful already to taste." James Suckling

    About the winemakersForadoriTrentino-South Tyrol
    Foradori

The complex red drops of Elisabetta Foradori impressively reflect the philosophy of the highly respected winemaker. They combine typical regional grape varieties with the specific character of the vineyards and biodynamics. As unbending as she is experienced, the strong-willed landowner has never been satisfied with the favourable growing conditions of the Trentino. Rather, she has tirelessly studied and experimented with new methods in her vineyards and cellars that deviate significantly from the usual and support the rhythm of nature. Elisabetta Foradori, the rare Teroldego grape variety, native only to Trentino, has clearly become the most important grape variety in the vineyard and has helped to achieve international recognition.

As different as she works, as different is her retreat. Quiet and consistent. Her son Emilio Zierock has been responsible for vineyards and cellars since 2012. It was not clear for a long time that he would slip into the big shoes of his famous mother, but he first studied philosophy in Germany. Not quite inappropriate, because the management "FAVO - Foradori+Animali+Viticultura+Ortaggi" also a kind of philosophy. "We want to produce more than just wine. In this sense we try to close the cycle: human, animal and plant." Land in Brentonico (behind Monte Baldo in the south of Trentino) has already been bought, where the family wants to realize this vision together. Emilio and his brother Theo will take care of the winery in the future. Elisabetta Foradori takes care of the new start-ups: cows, cheese and vegetable cultivation, as well as the Ampeleia vineyard in the Maremma, which she also runs very successfully with a friend. The wines from this biodynamically cultivated winery are naturally to be found in our Tuscany programme (Maremma).

Surrounded by ancient stone walls, the Foradori Winery, certified by ICEA and Demeter since 2009, is located in the picturesque small municipality of Mezzolombardo. After the early death of her father, the exceptional Trentino winemaker took over her parents' vineyard at a young age. It prevailed despite the Cabernet wave, which was high at that time, and opted for the local tradition. The wonderful Teroldego ripens between rocky walls on lean, stony alluvial soils of the Campo Rotaliano in high plant density with low yields per hectare. For the white wines Nosiola and Manzoni Bianco, the Foradori family has leased plots in the hills northeast of the city of Trento.

Despite many years of experience and great success, the fashion trends are categorically rejecting "Grande Dame of the wines of Trentino" (Gambero Rosso) and her son Emilio are constantly refining the wines. Elisabetta Foradori decided years ago to ferment wines from the Morei, Sgarzon and Fontanasanta sites separately in clay vessels from Spain. Emilio consistently goes one step further. He eliminated practically all barriques and built his own cellar only for these amphorae. The heart of the old vaulted cellar are large wooden barrels made of various types of wood and from various renowned coopers, as well as a few steel tanks and concrete cisterns. In this way Emilio Zierock can choose for each vintage and for each individual vineyard the vessel in which he will allow the best maturation of the wine without having to intervene. The exchange went on quietly and quietly. And continues in the new - actually ancient - philosophy of the cycle of nature. Cross-generational. SUPERIORE.DE
