Antonio Bragato had a dream early on - he wanted to become Négociant, i.e. to design and produce fine Italian wines of the absolute top class like in the French wine strongholds of Burgundy and Bordeaux. His heart's desire finally came true in 2004. Since then, the Swabian-born, but with body and soul Italian remained former owner of the Berlin cult Italian Il Calice, produces his own wines in his home region Friaul. In close cooperation with partner Gianni Macari, the joint venture FORUM Julii in San Giovanni al Natisone produces high-quality terroir wines that reflect Bragato's ideas and concepts. The wish of "architects" of the Bragato plants, to have an important say on the wine market, is the logical consequence of his professional development. The meticulous selection work of many years has "Ambassador of Italian wine in Germany" - the producer sees himself - little by little - as a profound connoisseur of the best wine-growing regions, their most outstanding winegrowers and their tried and tested winegrowing techniques.
Antonio Bragato does not own any vines. He uses almost exclusively grapes that grow in his partner Macari's Ronco della Rocca winery, which is run close to nature. The winery is located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli area. The location Rocca Bernarda is only a few hundred meters away from the Cru single location Rosazzo. Gianni Macari, one of Friuli's best trained winemaking experts, is not only responsible for the care of the vines, but also for advising and supervising the work in the cellar. Before setting up his own business, the oenologist and agronomist was responsible for the production of Livio Felluga for twenty years. The Cormòns-based company has been synonymous with top-quality wine production for five generations.
Good knowledge of the work in the vineyard, but also new ways of biodynamics and a radical precision in the execution of each operation characterize the clear style and reliable quality of Bragato wines. The small assortment is divided into two lines. The style of the Linea Classica wines, which are produced exclusively in stainless steel tanks under controlled fermentation by spontaneous yeast strains (pied de cuve) and can be drunk early, was developed in the style of the classic Friulian white wines and focuses on freshness and minerality. The pure plants will be "carried by the pure expression of native grape varieties" (A. Bragato). In order to allow the wines to mature unadulterated and safely in the bottle, the ambitious duo of experts uses a high-quality high-tech product with the diamond cork, which - as has been proven by regular parallel tastings over eight years - offers all the advantages of a natural cork with almost complete freedom from defects.
