Weißburgunder Sanct Valentin - a lively and powerful top wine made from grapes from single vineyards with minimal yields. Good ageing and storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, radiant straw yellow with light gold. Opens finely fragrant on the nose, of crisp yellow apple, hay, Williams pear, a hint of spice in the aftertaste, very inviting. On the palate, very elegant and with a great melt, dancing on the tongue, very harmonious. Falstaff
"This pinot bianco is brimming with sliced-pear and lemon-blossom aromas. Then, just when you think it might be a light, easy-drinking wine, the richness and depth come through on the back palate. Spot-on balance of textural complexity and liveliness with a nice hint of melted butter at the salty finish." James Suckling
"The 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Bianco Sanct Valentin is gorgeous with a very tonic and bright personality that transmits energy and life. The bouquet offers pomelo citrus, Anjou pear, honeydew melon and hints of dusty or crushed stone. It moves over the palate with plenty of acidic freshness and a creamy, mid-weight texture. Try your hand at a cheesy Dolomite dish of mushrooms and polenta for this one." Robert Parker

“St. Valentin” Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2019 · MAGNUM
Excellent Pinot Grigio, which is matured in small wooden barrels. Strong straw yellow, fruity aroma of apple, pear and fine vanilla, strong character on the palate with pleasantly gentle acidity, power and fullness. Pinot Grigio Sanct Valentin has been convincing for decades and is always one of the highest priced Pinot Gris in Italy. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright straw yellow with light silver. In the nose light fumé, toasted, then elegant notes of white peach and pear, plus a hint of candied banana. Beautiful play on the palate with great melting and powerful body, brisk, with structure and finesse, long lasting on the final, great tension." Falstaff
"I’m hooked from the nose of toasted raisin bread, straight from the grill! Then, a slew of white and yellow fruit aromas emerge that match the toasty elements in a delightful manner. Very sensual texture on the mid-palate with a long finish, in which fruit and oak are beautifully interwoven. And, in spite of 14% alcohol, it still somehow feels light!" James Suckling
"The San Michele Appiano 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Grigio Sanct Valentin shows classic lines and a lean-bodied mouthfeel. This wine breathes fruity notes of citrus and stone fruit at its core, and that center is framed by grassy aromas, flint and crushed stone. Destined for a grilled Orata or sea bass in this case, the Sanct Valentin line delivers a lot more complexity and depth next to many of its peers who also specialize in Pinot Grigio." Robert Parker

About three quarters of the wine in South Tyrol is bottled in cooperative wineries. The St. Michael-Eppan winery, which has been enthroned in the largest wine-growing community in the region for more than a hundred years, is one of them. Since 1977 Hans Terzer has been the responsible cellar master of the 340 winegrowing cooperative. The oenologist was Gambero Rossonamed one of the ten best winemakers in the world in 1997. Three years later, the renowned wine guide St. Michael-Eppan awarded the prize for the best winery in Italy. As the soul of the company and for almost 25 years also as president of the South Tyrolean cellar masters, Terzer has led the cooperative winery known outside Germany as Cantina Produttori San Michele Appiano to the highest quality with perseverance and foresight.
Among the jewels of St. Michael-Eppan, besides the great Appius, are the excellent red and demanding white drops of the line "Sanct Valentine"led by the now legendary Sauvignon. But also the wines made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Lagrein and other varieties leave nothing to be desired. The lines "selection" and "Classic" also stand for flawless labels offered at reasonable prices.
The winegrowers affiliated to the cooperative winery have the best vineyards on the South Tyrolean Wine Route. In addition to St. Valentin, there are the top locations Gleif, Schulthaus and Montiggl. The cultivated areas enjoy plenty of sunshine, mild temperatures and cool drop winds. Varied gravel soils formed by the erosion of the glaciers and subsequent erosion are other typical features.
Tradition and progress go hand in hand in St. Michael-Eppan. Stainless steel is the predominant material in the cellar, from the fermentation tank to the storage barrel. At the heart of the company, however, are two barrique cellars in which the highest quality and most valuable plants ripen. The ageing of the wines in the renewed wooden barrel cellar, which is again equipped with large oak barrels, takes place with a great deal of sensitivity and produces complex drops from a first-class symbiosis of fruit and wood. "Like an ocean giant, this cooperative steamer ploughs through its vast sea of vines, almost unsinkable even in stormy times. And it surprises again and again, with which ease one gets year after year true marvels from the depths."Gambero Rosso
