• "Oudeis" Metodo Classico Alta Langa DOCG 2016 brut

“Oudeis” Metodo Classico Alta Langa DOCG 2016 brut

"Oudeis" has its origin in the Greek name "Odysseus" and means "nobody". And indeed, no one but the outstanding terroir of the Alta Langa is responsible for the complexity of Enrico Serafino's sparkling wines.

Bright, rich straw yellow. The fragrant nose seduces with a salty minerality, a potpourri of country flowers, lime, blood orange and ripe peach. The palate is tense, fresh and extremely tasty, with well-integrated perlage and precisely measured intensity and a texture that is never too heavy or flat. Oudeis Brut has a very energetic tension and convinces in the remarkable final with a refined play of fruit and acidity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Apples, lemons and hints of white peaches on the nose. It's full-bodied, yet shows some tension and focus. Some dried-peach at the end." James Suckling

"Made with 85% Pinot Nero and 15% Chardonnay, this has inviting aromas of bread dough, red berry, eucalyptus and baking spice. The aromas follow through to the focused palate, along with pomegranate, hazelnut and star anise set against a refined perlage. Vibrant acidity lifts the finish." Wine Enthusiast

"This is another fun wine in a long list of Classic Method sparkling wines from Alta Langa (north of Barolo and Barbaresco). The Enrico Serafino 2016 Alta Langa Metodo Classico Oudeis Brut offers a rich and fleshy expression with lots of orchard fruit, Golden Delicious apple and toasted pine nut. This sparkling wine reaches just the right level of intensity with generous texture that is never too heavy or flat. The wine's determined energy is its most compelling aspect." Robert Parker

Delicate, copper-coloured pink with orange reflections. Elegant and mineral nose, fruity in delicate hints, yeasty and with notes of grapefruit and redcurrants. The sensation on the palate is savoury, almost ecstatic, with well-integrated perlage and a perfect balance between spiciness and freshness and an infinite persistence and juiciness. SUPERIORE.DE

“Propago” Metodo Classico Blanc de Blancs Alta Langa DOCG 2017 extra brut

Straw yellow with golden reflections. The rich bouquet presents a fine and persistent scent of minerals, flowers and citrus fruits. Precise, refined and creamy in the drink, spicy, with a beautiful note of flint and pebbles. Everything seems perfectly balanced, almost weightless, fresh and long. On the palate, Propago proves to be in wonderful harmony with the nose, with a consistent flavourful reminiscence of citrus notes and a recurring subtle minerality. SUPERIORE.DE

Here, sea and volcano meet: straw yellow with golden reflections. Opens delicately on the nose of yellow ripe peach, melon, dried banana, some vanilla, then smoke with dark mineral undertones and a subtle hint of coriander. Explosively tasty on the palate with fine-grained perlage and beguiling juiciness, in the endless finish we find an exciting balsamic note and an inspiring bone-dry freshness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Made entirely with Pinot Nero, this racy sparkler offers enticing aromas of white spring flower, brioche, crushed botanical herb and white stone fruit. The dry, focused palate offers yellow apple, bread crust and citrusy notes alongside an elegant perlage and crisp acidity. It closes on a saline note." Wine Enthusiast

    • "Zero140" Metodo Classico Alta Langa Riserva DOCG 2008 pas dosé

“Zero140” Metodo Classico Alta Langa Riserva DOCG 2008 pas dosé

Zero140 is Enrico Serafino's most extreme Alta Langa and at the same time the most impressive Italian Metodo Classico we have ever had in the glass. It represents the pinnacle of Enrico Serafino's Alta Langa project and sets an undisputed benchmark in Italy's world of méthode champenoise sparkling wines in terms of finesse and emotionality (and length of bottle ageing).

"Refining a bottle for 12 years means having 12 vintages in your own underground cellars at the same time. How can you recognise them? How do you make the complexity of such a special wine clear? We have chosen to paint the lower part of the bottles with a different colour for each vintage produced, marking the beginning of the remuage rotation on the glass. Moreover, the decision not to use the label underlines the complexity of the wine. This is why, in addition to the capsule required by law, on each bottle you will find only the jewel that represents our logo or the detail of a fossil from the Piedmont Tertiary, an unmistakable sign of the footprint that nature has left in nature over the centuries.

And finally, the choice of colours. The quality of our wines comes from nature. That's why we chose to be inspired by the theory of planets and colours. This links the sun, the nine planets, the moon and Ceres (dwarf planet) with the different colours that exist: 12 colours that identify and distinguish the 12 vintages of ZERO 140, which are refined in our cellars at the same time. Starting with the yellow of the sun, we continued with the green of Venus, trying to represent life in colours. The current vintage is 2008, it received the red dedicated to the planet Mars." Paolo Giacosa, Kellermeister

Pale gold in the glass. On the inviting, deliberately delicately reductive bouquet, poached pear, peach with toasted almonds and baked bread. On the palate of warm, rich texture and a never-ending soft and perfectly integrated perlage, which only exists when the wine is given time to mature. A lot of time. On the palate, then, an unrivalled complex, balanced, buttery and creamy texture, elegant and intense, with an invigorating fresh acidity to boot, followed by a deeply emotional mineral finish. This absolutely exceptional sparkling wine opens the doors of Fort Knox (and others) in the blink of an eye. Happy the one who can call a bottle of it his own. SUPERIORE.DE

    About the winemakersEnrico SerafinoPiedmont
    Enrico Serafino

At the beginning of the 20th century, Enrico Serafino, together with other Piedmontese sparkling wine producers, conquered the world. With his prestigious wines he not only entertained the Italian royal family, but also accompanied happy and successful moments of the most elegant Hollywood parties. Serafino is considered one of the most formative pioneers of the rapid rise of high-quality sparkling wines in Italy. Founded in 1878, the winery has been a leader in the entire region for over 100 years now.

Today, under the direction of oenologist Paolo Giacosa, the most regionally typical wines of Piedmont are fermented in the heart of the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site of Roero. The focus is on classic wines made from autochthonous grape varieties such as Barolo and Gavi di Gavi, as well as on the production of high-quality sparkling wines from the Alta Langa DOCG, which are fermented according to the strict method of classic bottle fermentation.

The Alta Langa DOCG designation of origin, co-founded by the winery, encompasses the calcareous clay and marl soils of the hills surrounding the provinces of Asti, Alessandria and Cuneo. These vineyards are located on the banks of the Tanaro River, where mostly Pinot Nero and Chardonnay are grown. Each bottle of Alta Langa is a vintage sparkling wine, so the year of harvest is always noted on the label. In keeping with the name (Italian for high Langhe), the vines must be grown at an altitude of at least 250 meters above sea level.

The hand-harvested grapes are transformed into complex and long-lasting cuvées using the second bottle fermentation process. Subsequently, the noble sparkling wine bottles refine in the underground, historic cellar even longer than the French champagne. At least 30 up to 144 months the sparkling wines lie at a constant temperature after fermentation on the yeasts - and in each individual bottle is the experience of now over 140 harvest years.

Enrico Serafino's wines are therefore a perfect expression of Piedmontese craftsmanship: time-consumingly produced, elegant and multi-faceted. Tradition is not enough, of course, because in order to constantly improve, dedication and foresight are necessary. The winery has been owned since 2015 by Kyle Krause, a wine collector from the United States who feels passionately connected to the Piedmont region thanks to the influence of his Italian origins. He also owns the Famous Vietti Winery, which for decades has been undisputedly one of the best producers for Barbera and Barolo.

"I grew up with an Italian-American mother and was influenced by food and wine culture from a young age. When I was little, most of my friends wanted to be firefighters. I wanted to grow up to be a winemaker. Buying a winery in Italy was a family dream for a long time, and Enrico Serafino helped me fulfill that dream," Kyle explains in an interview. His family has made it their mission to continue this unique legacy, which promises a sparkling and enjoyable future for us and the Alta Langa DOCG appellation with Enrico Serafino's sparkling wines. SUPERIORE.DE
