![Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 (BIO)]()
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 (BIO)
Poggio Landi comprises 75 hectares of vineyards, stretching from the historic vineyards in the north of Montalcino to the distinctive southern terraces. This expanse encompasses variations in soil, aspect and altitude – from 300 to 500 metres – providing the winemaker with a wealth of biodiversity that he utilises as if it were an instrument. The soils consist of Pliocene clays with marl, a geological composition that lends the Sangiovese structure and depth. 2019 played its part. A regular climate with no adverse conditions, a bountiful harvest of healthy, ripe grapes: what sounds so simple here is rare in Montalcino. Two weeks of spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 38 months in large French oak barrels of 30 and 54 hectolitres, and at least 6 months' bottle ageing.

![Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 (BIO)]()
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 (BIO)
Pliocene clays retain moisture. In a dry, hot year like 2020, this is not merely an agricultural detail, but a survival strategy. The clay soils of Poggio Landi, situated 300 to 500 metres above Torrenieri, provided a natural buffer against the summer drought that put large parts of Montalcino under strain that year. The organically farmed vines, with their deeper, more active root systems, played their part. The result is a Brunello full of concentration and character. Herbal and spicy notes on the nose – wild herbs, fennel and oregano – followed by sweet cherry and tamarind. Two weeks of spontaneous fermentation, 38 months in large French oak barrels, and 6 months in bottle.

![Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2021 (BIO)]()
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2021 (BIO)
In April 2021, temperatures in Montalcino dropped below zero. The vines, which had already begun to bud, were hit by the frost. What followed was a season of recovery: a rainy spring gave the vines the strength they needed to withstand a long, hot summer. Significant temperature fluctuations between day and night preserved freshness and aromatic precision. The harvest: concentrated, fragrant, healthy. In Montalcino, 2021 is regarded as a classic, elegant vintage. Not the opulence of 2019, nor the concentration of 2020, but balance. 100% Sangiovese, organically grown, spontaneous fermentation, 38 months in large French oak barrels (30 and 54 hectolitres), at least 6 months in bottle.

The Poggio Landi winery is located on the majestic Montosi hill in Montalcino and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. The associated 74 hectares of vineyards pass by the most prestigious sites of the Denomination of Origin. 27 hectares of Sangiovese alone are dedicated to the production of the great Brunello di Montalcino, 15 hectares to the juicy, fruity Rosso di Montalcino.
The famous Tuscan family Cinelli Colombini sold the winery in December 2012 to the Argentinean billionaire Alejandro Bulgheroni, who already owns several wineries. With his group Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards (ABFV), he is represented practically all over the world: From South America to France to the USA and Australia, Bulgheroni has dedicated himself to the production of outstanding organic wines. A winery in one of the most characteristic terroirs in the world, such as Montalcino, could not be missing.
Bulgheroni calls the Tuscan wine-growing region a "treasure trove of biodiversity". His Sangiovese vines grow at altitudes between 180 and 500 metres, which results in different soil types and exposures. The relatively loose soils are mainly found in the lower altitudes, while the higher altitudes consist of limestone and marl. The Argentinian's extensive vineyard features an incredible variety of terroirs that are nevertheless located in one and the same area.
All the wineries in the Alejandro Bulgheroni Family Vineyards (ABFV) group share a unique production philosophy focused on excellent quality, sustainability and low environmental impact. Poggio Landi was fully converted to organic production methods immediately after the sale and has been certified since 2017.
"Our philosophy is to add value to every winery we own and its grapes, while creating jobs and economic and social development", explains young winemaker Giovanni Alberio, who is responsible for ABFV's Tuscan wineries. In the case of Poggio Landi, this means above all organic cultivation, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a wine cellar entirely without barrique barrels. The flagship wine Brunello di Montalcino thus matures for 38 months in 54-hectolitre used French oak barrels, while the refined Rosso di Montalcino is refined in traditional concrete tanks.
It seems that Bulgheroni has chosen the right spot in southern Tuscany to further develop his great passion for exciting character wines. SUPERIORE.DE
