• "Luce" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2012

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2012

Dark ruby, fleshy aroma of dark fruits, cherry, with hints of mushrooms, tobacco, tar and chocolate. Rarely have I had such a highly concentrated Sangiovese in my glass. A concise tannin on the palate, then again black-red berries and a truly muscular finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense sparkling ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Compact and dense nose with notes of pickled cherries and plums, underpinned by fine leather notes. On the palate it is firm and gripping, with a lot of ripe fruit, blackberries and plums, opening with dense tannins, covered with sweet enamel, very long aftertaste". Falstaff

"Luce della Vita is a second important brand owned by the Frescobaldi family in Montalcino. Their other historic estate is the Tenuta Castelgiocondo with a beautiful villa overlooking the vineyards. The Luce brand does extremely well in foreign markets thanks to its elegant marketing and packaging. The Luce della Vite 2012 Brunello di Montalcino sees an annual production of approximately 25,000 bottles. The wine is styled with contemporary flair. The color is richly saturated and inky dark with bright ruby highlights. The color is very attractive. Bold cherry and blackberry emerge from the bouquet, and there's a generous amount of oak spice and toast to speak to an international palate. Integrated oak tannins are folded within the wine's rich and fruity consistency." Robert Parker

"Shows fine balance between the fresh cherry and berry fruit, with savory, wild herb and spice notes and a solid backbone of acidity. The tannins build on the finish, leaving a dusty, mouthcoating sensation." Wine Spectator

"Blackberry and coffee-bean character with hints of black tea. Full body, firm, silky and chewy tannins and a focused finish. Tight and precise. Very muscular for the vintage. Needs time to soften." James Suckling

"Dark ruby with bright orange rim. Lifted, minty cherry nose. Modern approach yet quite pure, with crunchy cherry fruit and hints of oak. Hedonistic and well made while the firm tannins give it plenty of potential, too. Long!" Jancis Robinson

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

One of the best Brunello of the modern style since its debut in 2003. Bright ruby red and a bouquet of delicate vanilla, some roasted aromas and dried raisins. A powerful wine with ripe fruit and notes of tobacco, dark cherry and spices that enchants lovers of powerful and powerful red wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"A modern style, this boasts plenty of new oak, bringing vanilla, toast and resin elements, along with a layer of prickly tannins. Shows ample ripe fruit midpalate, and should integrate in two to three years." Wine Spectator

"The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Luce is packed tight with brightness and sunshine. Compared to the family's other Brunellos made under the Castelgiocondo brand, this wine is more opulent, more concentrated and more modern or contemporary overall. It is designed to appeal to an international audience for sure and most certainly delivers the goods if you are looking for roundness, ripe fruit and thick texture. It is deliciously irresistible with bold cherry, exotic spice and tobacco. That bright acidity on the close will help the wine age carefully over the next 10 years." Robert Parker

“Luce 25 anni” Toscana IGT 2017

Luce is the wine icon of the estate of the same name and symbol of the harmonious balance between the elegant structure of Sangiovese and the richness of Merlot. The wine blends the tradition and terroir of the Montalcino region with the personal interpretation of this extraordinary land. To celebrate the 25th anniversary, a special bottle has been created on which there is an inscription with a thought by Vittorio Frescobaldi that refers to Luce's values: "Here lies the memory of the vineyard and work, of the earth, the sun, the sound of time and the song of the seasons."

Nearly impenetrable ruby red. The bouquet is initially reductive and relatively austere, which opens up softly and warmly with a seductive scent of ripe berries, tobacco and leather as aeration increases. The taste is concentrated, distinctive and tannic, yet silky and promising on the palate. The finish is long and deep with hints of coffee and vanilla. A great blend of Merlot and Sangiovese with high potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark-berry, walnut, cedar and violet aromas with just a hint of chocolate. Full-bodied, layered and rich with ripe tannins and a vivid finish. Shows energy and a velvety texture. Deep and long. Give it two or three years to soften. Try after 2022." James Suckling

      “Luce” Toscana IGT 2016

The legend will be continued with the opening of the new wine cellar, harmoniously integrated into the landscape (2018). Deep ruby red with violet reflections. Fine aromas of small black berries and sour cherries blend with subtle notes of cocoa and coffee. On the palate it is powerful and with a present but at the same time nicely integrated portion of tannin. Notes of tar, leather and plum round off the unique taste experience and lead to a finesse-rich, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Impenetrable crimson. Deep nose of crushed black forest fruit and sour cherry with an impressive layer of sweet oak. Abundance of fruit and oak is neatly tempered by plentiful acidity and long, powdery tannins. Definitely internationally styled but sleek and stylish. I imagine this could do with another five years before all the components are integrated. Amazingly balanced and its 15% alcohol doesn’t show." Jancis Robinson

"Well-marked by spicy, toasty oak, this plum- and black cherry–flavored red is broad and muscular. Smooth, with fine structural support and hints of chocolate and coffee on the lingering aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"A ripe but suggestive nose of dark cherries, dark chocolate, hot stones, cassis, brambleberry pie and bark. Yet, on the palate, this paints an altogether different picture, in which sleek tannins carry fresh layers of forest fruit long, through a compact, full-bodied palate. Powerful acidity steers it through to a restrained but chewy finish." James Suckling

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015

Intense ruby red. Complex aromas of ripe black fruits and liquorice, rounded off with notes of tobacco and truffle. Soft and fresh on the palate, with an impressive texture. Velvety tannins and an opulent mouthful lead this wine from an excellent vintage to a long and elegant final. A delicious, modern interpretation of Brunello full of personality, brightness and sunshine! SUPERIORE.DE

"Shiny, rich ruby garnet. Shows notes of plum and blackberry in the nose, very appealing, in the background fresh leather. In the beginning and the course of the wine, it opens with full-bodied tannin, plum, in the final a little bit of high alcohol is noticeable." Falstaff

"Tasted blind. Quite deep ruby with narrow orange rim. Immediate and concentrated nose with enormous depth as well as richness. Has bags of everything, and quite a bit of new oak but it’s effortlessly matched by the rich fruit. Perfectly balanced with juicy integrated acidity, and elegant, clinging, long tannins. Very imposing and with potential." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 vintage registered weather conditions characterised by a crisp and rainy spring that provided the grapevines with the right stimuli and to develop significant water reserves in the subsoil. The excellent temperature ranges in September contributed to the perfect phenolic ripening of the grapes in this warm yet balanced vintage who gave small and sparse clusters. The wine is full of solarity with clear raspberry if not darker wild fruits, with tobacco and roasted nuts aroma and flavors. Firm acidity and grainy, velvety tannins build the full body of the wine with its great suppleness, showing only a bit warming finish." Decanter

"This is one of the icon bottles within the greater portfolio of Frescobaldi wines from Tuscany. The Luce della Vite 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Luce moves over the palate with power and determination (with 15.5% alcohol), imparting ripe fruit flavors of blackberry and candied cherry along the way. This wine shows deep dimension and fiber with a solid core of dark fruit. It lightens up on the palate thanks to that bright acidity and the general quality of the primary fruit flavors obtained in this happy vintage. The tannins are neatly woven into the wine's full-bodied density." Robert Parker

"Amazing aromas of crushed berries, cherries, flowers, black truffles and wet earth, turning to violets and black tea. Extremely aromatic. Full-bodied, deep and profound with fantastically strong tannins that just melt into the wine. Fantastic length and intensity. Truly great. Drinkable, but better in 2024 and onwards." James Suckling

      “LUX VITIS” Toscana IGT 2015

LUX VITIS 2015 is the first vintage of an exceptional, great wine, vinified in small quantities. It comes from more than 12 year old Cabernet Sauvignon vines and contains a small part of Sangiovese. Deep dark ruby red, in the bouquet gingerbread spice, ripe black cherry and some smoke. On the palate it is compact and precise, with a clear indication of origin and grape variety. LUX VITIS will reveal its true treasure only with the years of maturity - the very harmonious vintage 2015 gives it abundance, subtle sweetness and concentration and a freshness that will carry it into a long life. SUPERIORE.DE

"Made predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon with the addition of a small percentage of Sangiovese, this offers aromas of dark-skinned berry, dried Mediterranean herb and cedar. The bold but elegantly structured palate doles out black-currant jam, black plum, licorice and white pepper alongside fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast

"This is a new and exciting red from Luce that is about 90 per cent cabernet sauvignon and the rest sangiovese. Fantastic structure and power. So savory and juicy at the same time. Full body, silky-textured tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Smoke and wet earth at the end. Superb. Wait until 2021, but already gorgeous." James Suckling

Full-bodied, deep and profound with fantastically strong tannins that just melt into the wine. Fantastic length and intensity. Truly great. Drinkable, but better in 2024 and onwards." James Suckling

    • "Luce" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 <br>3 Bottles in OWC

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2015 · 3 Bottles in OWC

“Luce 25 anni” Toscana IGT 2017 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

    About the winemakers
    Tenuta Luce
    Tuscany | Montalcino
    Tenuta Luce

Lamberto Frescobaldi has been given the task of successfully leading the Luce della Vite winery, located right next to Castelgiocondo, into the future with oenological skill. This was the dream of two protagonists of international viticultural history, Vittorio Frescobaldi from Florence and Robert Mondavi from Napa Valley/California, in 1995. Lamberto's main tasks are to renew vineyards, modernize wineries and set up research programs for selected vineyards. Luce della Vite is part of the Tenute di Toscana holding company managed by Marchesi de' Frescobaldi. Robert Mondavi's son Michael has only a financial stake in the estate.

The Tenuta Luce is one of the highest situated wineries in Montalcino with 350 to 420 meters of altitude. It comprises 192 hectares of land, 77 of which are covered with vines. While part of it was planted in 1977, the majority of the vineyards have been newly planted or replanted since 1997, with an average density of 6,100 vines per hectare. According to Frescobaldi, the Galestro soil, which is well drained and poor in organic matter, offers ideal conditions for growing Sangiovese at higher altitudes. At lower altitudes, the soil is more clayey and therefore particularly suitable for growing Merlot.

In order to maintain healthy vines, organic technologies are mainly used in the vineyards. The average yield of Tenuta Luce is kept very low, at around 30 hectolitres of wine per hectare, to strengthen the character of the grape varieties and allow the terroir to develop to its full potential. The varieties are harvested separately and are only brought together towards the end of November when fermentation is complete. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Luce, despite its Mondavi past, is not a noisy wine but a fine wine in which one feels the hills of southern Tuscany." Vinum
