    • "Luce" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

“Luce” Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

Dark ruby, fleshy aroma of dark fruits, cherry, with hints of mushrooms, tobacco, tar and chocolate. Rarely have I had such a highly concentrated Sangiovese in my glass. A concise tannin on the palate, then again black-red berries and a truly muscular finish. It still needs storage time, but already today it is one of the most complex and dense of its vintage. Elegance-drinkers please stay away from it and wait at least five years! SUPERIORE.DE

"As the years go by I appreciate the timeless beauty of the Luce della Vite label design. I can't think of a label that I like to look at more. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a plump and juicy wine that is packed tight with all the flavors and goodies you should expect from this celebrated appellation. The Frescobaldi family has taken great care to move away from the overripe and over-extracted style that they championed in the past. Instead, we've started to see elegant and streamlined expressions from this historic Tuscan estate. I would say that this tendency also applies to this wine, although the warm 2011 vintage definitely leaves its mark. The wine is rich and fruit-forward with opulent and fleshy layers. It is coming along nicely despite some young fruit sourness that should flesh out with a few more years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"This is fabulous for the vintage with blackberry, blueberry and toffee-barrel aromas and flavors. Full and very deep. Fine tannins. Bright finish. Very flashy and I like it." James Suckling

"Intense sparkling ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Compact and dense nose with notes of pickled cherries and plums, underpinned by fine leather notes. On the palate it is firm and gripping, with a lot of ripe fruit, blackberries and plums, opening with dense tannins, covered with sweet enamel, very long aftertaste". Falstaff

"Luce della Vita is a second important brand owned by the Frescobaldi family in Montalcino. Their other historic estate is the Tenuta Castelgiocondo with a beautiful villa overlooking the vineyards. The Luce brand does extremely well in foreign markets thanks to its elegant marketing and packaging. The Luce della Vite 2012 Brunello di Montalcino sees an annual production of approximately 25,000 bottles. The wine is styled with contemporary flair. The color is richly saturated and inky dark with bright ruby highlights. The color is very attractive. Bold cherry and blackberry emerge from the bouquet, and there's a generous amount of oak spice and toast to speak to an international palate. Integrated oak tannins are folded within the wine's rich and fruity consistency." Robert Parker

"Shows fine balance between the fresh cherry and berry fruit, with savory, wild herb and spice notes and a solid backbone of acidity. The tannins build on the finish, leaving a dusty, mouthcoating sensation." Wine Spectator

"Blackberry and coffee-bean character with hints of black tea. Full body, firm, silky and chewy tannins and a focused finish. Tight and precise. Very muscular for the vintage. Needs time to soften." James Suckling

"Dark ruby with bright orange rim. Lifted, minty cherry nose. Modern approach yet quite pure, with crunchy cherry fruit and hints of oak. Hedonistic and well made while the firm tannins give it plenty of potential, too. Long!" Jancis Robinson

    • "Luce" Toscana IGT 2015

      “Luce” Toscana IGT 2015

The legend continues with the opening of the new wine cellar (2018), harmoniously integrated into the landscape. Deep ruby red with violet reflections. Fine aromas of small black berries and sour cherries blend with subtle notes of cocoa and coffee. On the palate, it is full of pressure and with a pronounced, but at the same time beautifully integrated portion of tannin. Notes of tar, leather and plum round off the unique taste experience and lead into a finesse rich, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense ruby with a fine garnet hue. Clear and precise nose, full of dark currants, cassis liqueur and blackberries, some dark chocolate. Round and full at the base, much ripe berry fruit, opens with much fine-meshed tannin, fine enamel, firm pressure in the finish." Falstaff

"A powerful version, with a coating of toasty, vanilla-accented oak wrapped around blackberry and black plum flavors. Shows a hint of tar, and the tannins are assertive now, yet this stays vibrant and long. Better with air, but still a unique style." Wine Spectator

"Pliant and beautifully resonant on the palate, the 2015 Luce is very nicely done. Dark red cherry, chocolate, new leather, espresso, new oak and spice notes abound. There is plenty of richness and textural depth to the 2015, but I also see a more refined use of oak and a greater emphasis on freshness than in the past, both clearly positives." Antonio Galloni

"A ripe and juicy super Tuscan with lots of aromas of ripe berries, chocolate, nutmeg and spices, which follow through to a full body. Round, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Rich and layered with beautiful fruit and intensity. Subtlety lavish." James Suckling

“Luce” Toscana IGT 2015 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

    About the winemakers
    Luce della Vite
    Tuscany | Montalcino
    Luce della Vite

Lamberto Frescobaldi has the task of successfully leading the Luce della Vite winery, located right next to Castelgiocondo, into the future with oenological skill. It was a dream of two protagonists in the history of international winegrowing, Vittorio Frescobaldi from Florence and Robert Mondavi from Napa Valley/California, in 1995. Lamberto's main tasks are to renew vineyards, modernise wineries and set up research programmes for selected vineyards. Luce della Vite belongs to the family of Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Holding Tenute di Toscana. Robert Mondavi's son Michael is only financially involved in the estate.

Luce della Vite is one of the highest wineries in Montalcino with an altitude of 350 to 420 metres. It covers 192 hectares of land, of which 77 hectares is planted with vines. While part of the vineyard was planted in 1977, the majority of the vineyards have been replanted since 1997 with an average density of 6,100 vines per hectare. According to Frescobaldi, the well-drained Galestro soil, poor in organic matter, offers ideal conditions for the cultivation of Sangiovese at higher altitudes. At lower altitudes, the soil is more clayey and therefore particularly suitable for the cultivation of Merlot.

In order to maintain healthy vines, organic technologies are mainly used in the vineyards. The average yield is kept very low at around 30 hectolitres of wine per hectare in order to strengthen the character of the grape varieties and allow the terroir to fully develop. The varieties are harvested separately and are only brought together towards the end of November after complete fermentation. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Luce, despite its Mondavi past, is not a louder wine, but a fine-toned wine in which one feels the hills of southern Tuscany."Vinum
