“rosajo” Rosato Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)

Provence? No, it's just Maremma! Here comes a Rosato that really does not have to hide from the classic South French, at the same time it possesses a cornucopia of Tuscan nonchalance and identity. Fine, herbaceous, red berry scent, in addition Mediterranean-salty hints. On the palate, an invigorating freshness with well-dosed acidity that gives the wine a crispness and tension that many an Italian Rosato would love to have. For all its lightness and freshness, it is serious and precise with every sip, the fine spice gives it character and depth and makes every sip a highly decent drinking pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

“mersino” Vermentino Maremma Toscana DOC 2019 (BIO)

Bright straw yellow with radiant, silvery reflexes. Fine floral aroma, fresh citrus scent and hints of apricots and Mediterranean herbal spice. On the palate mild, restrained acidity, freshness, a delicate yeasty note and a fine almond tone. The intense skin contact during maceration gives this Vermentino from Maremma its impressive personality and class. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brightest silver grey with delicate straw yellow. In the nose initially after fermented plums, needs a lot of air, finally opens on yellow fruit, underpinned by present spicy tones. On the palate clearly after Mediterranean herbs, after thyme, racy in acidity and course, not too loud, well integrated, has an independent character." Falstaff

“ballarino” Vermentino Maremma Toscana DOC 2018 (BIO)

Very independent and impressive interpretation of a Vermentino. Sparkling golden yellow, in the nose herbaceous, with notes of bell pepper and gooseberry. At the palate much volume and strength, in addition a big freshness with a fine tart note. In the final firm and mineral, long. The longer maturation provides a pleasant fullness and complexity, which makes it indispensable especially with light meat dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

“saragio” Sangiovese Maremma Toscana DOC 2017 (BIO)

Saragio has been Martin Kerres' reference Sangiovese from the very beginning. Complex and seductive bouquet of dark wild cherries, fresh rosemary and subtle notes of venison. On the palate highly complex and demanding, with every sip new, exciting facets of the Sangiovese grape are revealed. Supple and highly structured, the juicy taste develops with silky tannin and medium fullness - for us, a stylistically outstanding experience far away from the well-known often strongly sun-drenched and deeply dark Maremma wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rather tart, slightly dried-vegetable to herbal and a touch floral aroma of red and a little black berries with mineral and peppery-spicy nuances. Ripe, juicy fruit with flavors reminiscent of candied nuts, some cocoa and sweet spicy nuances, fine, friable tannin, powerful and persistent on the palate, floral nuances, a touch of dried citrus zest, friable, ripe tannin, mineral in the background, a hint of licorice, very good finish." About the winemakersValdonicaTuscany | Maremma
    Valdonica

"Valdonica found me." laughs Dr. Martin Kerres and you can see that he is quite happy about it, here at his favourite place at 500 meters above sea level, from where you can see over the whole country down to the dazzling sea in which the island Giglio hides in the haze. The doctor and hospital manager from Austria never intended to change jobs and become a winegrower. Actually, he was only looking for a holiday home for himself and his partner, in the warmth, for autumn, when it gets cold and grey in Vienna. And then he stood exactly on this spot of earth with a view and a little later he called 80 hectares of wilderness his own.

And this is exactly one of the peculiarities of Valdonica. It has never been farmed before. The vineyards planted by him and his team are actually "natural". All vineyards are planted in untouched nature, free of pesticides and other chemicals, organically and biologically cultivated, not irrigated and spontaneously fermented in small units in the cellar and matured in wood. Hardly any other winery can say the same.

Regional grape varieties - with a focus on various Sangiovese clones - complemented by Ciliegiolo, Vermentino nero and Massareta, as well as the internationally acclaimed white Vermentino, are grown in vineyards that are now ten years old and reach 500 metres above sea level. The soils are partly volcanic in origin and here typical clay and sandy soils. A rather dry microclimate keeps the berries small, the constant wind from the sea in the south and from the mountains in the north provides the best ventilation, the clear temperature differences between hot days and cool nights promote the fruit. The wines develop wonderful elegance and delicate structure and balance.

Of the 80 hectares of land, originally only 10 hectares were planted with vines and olives to preserve the natural landscape. Last year 3 ha were added - only regional varieties. Another step will come next year. Together with his children, Kerres bought the neighbouring estate with a further seven hectares in order to become more economical, because the yields at this altitude are very low. So you can look forward to more great wines from the House of Valdonica in four to five years. A visit is also worthwhile: guest rooms, suites and a villa in the vineyards can be rented directly at the winery. SUPERIORE.DE
