“CiFRA” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2016 (BIO)

Star Oenologist Luca D'Attoma has vinified a wonderfully agile and elegant Cabernet Franc with Cifra. Bright ruby violet, deep fragrance with notes of blackberry and liquorice. Rich fruit on the palate with firm tannin and mineral finish. A delight from the Tuscan coast from biodynamic (Demeter) cultivation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tasted from vat, the 2016 Cabernet Franc CiFRA is one of the best value wines you will find in this report. This is a brooding and thick expression of the hearty Cabernet Franc grape that is piled high with all kinds of Tuscan warmth and sunshine. The wine just oozes personality and power with inky dark fruit and thick extraction. CiFRA is made with organic and biodynamic fruit from the Tuscan Coast. Sweet plum and prune give momentum on the finish." Robert Parker

"This is a beautiful cabernet franc with roses, dark berry and dried mushroom. Full body, very fine with a lovely finish." James Suckling

    • "ALTROVINO" Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2015 (BIO)

“ALTROVINO” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2015 (BIO)

Altrovino is a fine blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Opulent scent of black fruits, leather and tobacco. On the palate graceful and very charming, multi-layered in aromas, velvety and long. Already today a harmonious pleasure, this wine will enter a continuous career. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is among the wines I most admire from winemaking duo Luca D'Attoma and Elena Celli. The 2015 Merlot Cabernet Franc Altrovino is an austere red blend made without barrique. Instead, this vintage marks the first edition in which Tuscan clay amphorae plays a role as do large cement vats. Only a small percentage of the wine (15%) is aged in terra-cotta, but the wine's personality has been noticeably changed. This unique approach allows for more fruit expression and you certainly get that loud and clear in this wine. There is a wild, untamed and brambly element to the bouquet with forest floor, dark berry fruit, grilled herb and scorched earth. The wine shows a sharp and edgy personality that will soften with another year of bottle aging." Robert Parker

"An extremely focused young wine with blackberry and hints of basil. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh and intense finish. Beautiful austerity on the finish. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter certified. Firm and precise." James Suckling

"Intense, rich ruby red. In the nose after rich cherries accompanied with fine spicy notes. Creamy and supple on the palate, with tightly woven tannins, balanced acidity in the middle, juicy and clear on the finish". Falstaff

"The 2016 Altrovino brings together the aromatic presence of Cabernet Franc with the juiciness of Merlot. Sweet tobacco, cedar, chocolate, rose petal, mint and dried herbs are front and center. In the glass, the 2016 is a touch forward. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years." Antonio Galloni

"A medium-to full-bodied red with fine and silky, polished tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Shows linearity, tension and focus. Clean and vivid. From biodynamically grown grapes. Demeter-certified." James Suckling

"This is another great wine from Duemani. The spiciness from the wood is just right in the 2016 Merlot Cabernet Franc Altrovino, while the color and texture of the wine are both a bit gentler compared to other offerings from this producer. The wine has a slightly thinner mouthfeel and a more accessible style, but this is still a loyal and very enjoyable presentation of these two French varieties." Robert Parker

    • "SUISASSI" Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2012 (BIO)

“SUISASSI” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2012 (BIO)

Suisassi is an excellent interpretation of the noble Syrah. Generous, full fragrance, clear and with an exotic touch of cardamom and cinnamon stick. The fruit is dark and rich in extracts, the tannins are well on their way to perfect integration. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Syrah Suisassi brings together the density and richness of the Tuscan coast, but the inclusion of whole clusters adds freshness and also seems to bring forward considerable varietal character. Sweet dark cherries, violets, lavender, quinine and spices are some of the many notes that grace the open-knit finish. The Syrah is fermented and aged in cask, a technique Luca D'Attoma first used at Le Macchiole." Antonio Galloni

"So many syrah aromas and flavors here with dried meat, spice and dark berry character. Full body, round and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. So much character to this but then a fresh and subtle finish." James Suckling

"Deep dark, rich ruby violet. Very intense nose, opening with notes of eucalyptus and apricot, then elderberries and some green pepper. On the palate it is powerful and compact, has a lot of sweet fruit melt, from which soft tannin unfolds, juicy and with a very long finish". Falstaff

    • "DUEMANI" Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2013 (BIO)

“DUEMANI” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2013 (BIO)

The pure Cabernet Franc Duemani is an excellent wine. The bouquet is of exceptional clarity with dark plum, coffee and wild roses. Rich and with a perfectly integrated wood note on the palate, its structural elegance is particularly fascinating. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep dark, rich ruby with black core. Attractive and dense nose, opened with notes of sandalwood and cinnamon, then plums and cassis, very dense. On the palate salty, compact, present fruit, opens with dense tannin, earthy and deep, reverberating to cigar box, rich pressure." Falstaff

"This is Luca D’Attoma and Elena Celli’s flagship wine. The 2013 Cabernet Franc Duemani is a proud achievement and represents one of the finest wines made so far by this prolific and studious team of vintners. The quality of fruit is succulent, crunchy and rich, but it also offers a deep sense of elegance and grace. Luca refers to it as a “dynamic” wine and it takes a while to understand what he means. It does, of course, represent the biodynamic growing philosophy (as do all of Luca’s wines), but extreme purity and precision really are its defining characteristics. It is dynamic because the fruit is allowed to express itself without filters or evident outside embellishments." Robert Parker

"This is a phenomenal cabernet franc. The depth and intensity are so spectacular with fantastic richness and power. It is full-bodied but finishes with energy and greatness. Lively acidity. 20 months in new wood and almost 10 months in cement. Exceptional 2013. One of the wines of the vintage. Biodynamically grown grapes. Greatest wine ever from here and the best cabernet franc ever from Italy." James Suckling

    • "SUISASSI" Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2013 (BIO)

“SUISASSI” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2013 (BIO)

Syrah Suisassi is rich and expressive. The bouquet convinces with aromas of sage, rosemary, wild flowers, liquorice, violets and plums. On the palate very full and round with memories of berries, chocolate and nuts. Elegant and intellectual. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich, dark ruby-violet, impenetrable. Opened in the nose with notes of elderberries, very clear, much juicy and precisely worked out fruit. Vibrating on the palate, with spices and dark fruit, juicy, with fine-meshed tannins, a wide arch, very long aftertaste, high elegance." Falstaff

"The 2013 Syrah Suisassi is faithful to the grape and shows abundant notes of blackberry, cured meat, exotic spice and grilled herb. Luca D’Attoma has been experimenting with increased stem inclusion. In the 2012 vintage, 30% of the mass saw stem inclusion, but that figure rises to 100% with the 2016 vintage. This Syrah is an extremely well integrated and smoothly textured. The oak still needs time to integrate, but past tasting experiences with Suisassi give excellent promise for its age-worthiness. Luca believes stem inclusion provokes a slightly reduced effect when the wine is young. For this reason, you should wait before popping the cork. The 2013 vintage in particular boasts an all-Rhône approach." Robert Parker

"This is setting a new benchmark for syrah with so much intensity yet it remains refined and velvety textured. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much licorice, smoked meat and spice. Light berry. Green apple skin. What a wine." James Suckling

"Duemani's 2013 Syrah Suisassi is impressive. The inclusion of a third of whole clusters adds considerable aromatic lift and nuance to the dark fruit flavors. Lavender, mint, sage, licorice and plum are all pushed forward. Beams of underlying acidity shape the expressive, saline finish." Antonio Galloni

A blast of heady blueberry jam, crème de cassis, leather and pepper notes emerges as this big, tannic wine gradually starts to open up. The 30% stems add quite a bit of savoriness without dominating the wine's balance. This is very nicely done, especially within the context of the year." Antonio Galloni

“DUEMANI” Rosso Costa Toscana IGP 2016 (BIO)

The pure Cabernet Franc Duemani is for us one of the best representatives of the West Tuscan coastal region. The bouquet is of exceptional clarity with dark plum, coffee and wild roses. Rich and with a perfectly integrated wood note on the palate, its structure and elegance are particularly fascinating. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep ruby red with a slight garnet glow. Opened with fine spicy notes, of cinnamon and ginger, then of dark currants and elderberries. On the palate earthy-spicy notes, floats on a fine spice carpet, juicy fruit, opens with present, dense tannin, in the finale saturated pressure." Falstaff

"A layered and rich cabernet franc with tobacco, blackberries, bark and licorice. Full body, very fine tannins that are polished with beautiful fruit and a long, long finish. Shows muscle yet polish. Needs four or five years to soften." James Suckling

"This vintage is profound and beautiful. The 2016 Cabernet Franc Duemani shows deep layers of fruit, with levels of crunchiness and complexity that make it memorable. The mouthfeel is silky, long and rich. The maturity of the fruit here is perfect. In terms of appearance, the wine is dark and impenetrable. The Syrah takes very well to 20 months in oak, retaining a freshness and fruity sweetness to accompany the spice. The mouthfeel is velvety and rich. About the winemakers
    Duemani
    Tuscany | Maremma
    Duemani

Elena Celli and Luca d'Attoma are a very successful pair of winegrowers. Both were born in Tuscany and have fulfilled their dream of owning their own winery by acquiring the beautiful Azienda Vitivinicola Duemani not far from the village of Riparbella in the Maremma. About ten kilometres from the sea and at an altitude of around 400 metres, the couple produce powerful, clearly structured and well-balanced wines. The work in the vineyard and in the cellar was certified as organic and biodynamic because they considered the area unsuitable for conventional cultivation methods. After eight years of meticulous preparation of the soil, which was dominated by clay and stones and not particularly fertile, it was worth the effort. The red wines, which are pressed in the estate and are mostly pure and very limited in their edition, are kept in a modern style. Above all the Suisassi captivates in the assortment manageable with four drops by its large Mediterranean radiant emittance.

In the Duemani estate the three vineyards are arranged in the shape of an amphitheatre with a view of the sea. Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah thrive there. The highest vineyard hill has the richest soil; it is planted with Cabernet. The smallest, very stony vineyard is the heart of the small Tuscan winery. The approximately 7,000 vines of the Syrah variety grow in buscher education, i.e. without a support system consisting of wires, frames and poles.

When Luca is not in the estate, he may be travelling as a professional consultant to visit wineries between Veneto and Sicily. The oenologist studied at the traditional wine growing school in Conegliano (Veneto) with a thesis on the topic „Interruption of fermentation and its reactivation with the yeast skin" completed. After training, the winemaker worked in Tuscany for renowned houses such as Tua Rita (Maremma) and Le Macchiole (Bolgheri). The name Duemani, in English "two hands"The "Elena Luca" is, by the way, a loving remembrance of the long-standing and intimate relationship between Elena and Luca, which goes far beyond private life. "As one of the superstars among Italy's consultative oenologists, d'Attoma helped many wineries and helped them to later develop into superstars. But his uncompromising nature and his strict demands on wine quality, with which he confronted the landowners, were not everyone's taste."Antonio Galloni
