“Poggio Bonelli” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020
Dark ruby red. Opens with aromas of dark cherry, plum, spices and Spanish cedar. Very seductive also in the taste the delicate blackberry note, which again mixes with tobacco, minerals and well-integrated wood. The final is fresh with a precise acidity and again an intensely spicy length. Every year, the Chianti Classico from Poggio Bonelli is very attractive, stylish and on the pulse of time. SUPERIORE.DE

Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018
Sensual bouquet of aromas of ripe raspberries and sour cherries, plus earthy and spicy nuances, coffee, chocolate and tobacco. Plump and full-bodied on the palate, excellently structured with silky tannins and a long final. Excellent price-quality ratio in a small edition. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep dark, rich ruby red. On the nose of ripe plums and lush Amarena cherries, slightly animal-spicy, dried tomato and leather. On the palate with pressure and salty fruit, shows tightly woven and presses richly on the palate." Falstaff
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva shows a deep dark concentration. Blackberries are followed by pencil traces and dark tar, and the wine is probably more spicy and mineral than fruity. The bouquet shows depth and darkness. At the beginning the bouquet is not very expressive, but with time it arrives. At the end it has great density and power." Wine Advocate
"Balanced aromas of ripe red and black fruits with some interesting notes of expresso and squid. Full-bodied with firm, fruity tannins and tasty red and black fruits. Also baking spice. The overall balance makes this wine so enjoyable." James Suckling

“Poggiassai” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
On the nose, noble, typically Tuscan notes of cherries, blackberries, violets and spices. Exceptionally complex, multi-layered and excellently structured on the palate. Gripping tannins, intense fruit and pleasant acidity are already in perfect harmony. The drinking pleasure builds nicely and increases in the long final. For us, it has been the attractive alternative to Antinori's famous Tignanello for years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of dried cherries, bark, mahogany and porcini mushrooms. Lemons and herbs, too. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and tangy acidity. Juicy, savory and supple." James Suckling
"This blended red is Sangiovese with Cabernet Sauvignon in a supporting role. The Poggio Bonelli 2018 Poggiassai is velvety, saturated and rich with dark fruit, cherry liqueur, barbecue spice and grilled herb. The wine shows a pretty dark color and thick concentration to complete what is ultimately a very contemporary winemaking style." Wine Advocate

As early as the 16th century, the Poggio Bonelli winery in the extreme south of Chianti Classico began to cultivate wine. Over the centuries, the estate has been owned by various noble families from Siena. At first it was inhabited by the Spennali family. In the second half of the 16th century the estate belonged to the prominent Piccolomini family. Later, the estate passed to the Landucci family. She managed the estate first alone, later with the help of the Croci family until well into the 20th century. The Poggio Bonelli estate started production in 1950. 35 years later, the 810-hectare estate was sold to MPS Tenimenti, the agricultural subsidiary of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest bank in the world.
Today the Poggio Bonelli winery produces not only fine wines of very high quality from the fruits of 8,000 olive trees, but also extra virgin olive oil. On top of that, it runs an agriturismo business. The vineyards cover an area of 83 hectares near Castelnuovo Berardenga. There the wines find their special fullness and strength. The southern and south-western areas are planted with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The berries are strictly selected after harvesting. The soils, which date back to the Pliocene period, are rich in clay, tuff and sand.
A few years ago the restructuring of the vineyard and the winery was completed. New vineyards were planted and old wooden barrels were completely replaced. Production was streamlined to just a few labels. Poggio Bonelli's wines are vinified today in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and later matured mainly in small French oak barrels before being refined in the bottle.
Poggiassai, a cuvée of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the house's top products. Star oenologist Carlo Ferrini has been on board since 1999. Together with Leonardo Pini, he closely watches over the production. SUPERIORE.DE
"Through a strict vineyard management following modern criteria, the labels of Poggio Bonelli gain an international profile, characterized by great concentration."Gambero Rosso
