“Cretum” Rosato di Toscana IGT 2017

The fresh Rosato, now in its second year of production, takes its name from the "Crete Senesi", a landscape created by erosion, not far from the winery. Pale pink with the scent of red grapefruit with red berries and spices on the palate and a light saltiness in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Poggio Bonelli" Chianti Classico DOCG 2016

“Poggio Bonelli” Chianti Classico DOCG 2016

Dark ruby red. Opens with aromas of dark cherry, plum, spices and Spanish cedar. Very seductive also in the taste the delicate blackberry note, which mixes again with tobacco, minerals and well integrated wood. In the finale fresh with a pinpoint acidity and again intensively spicy length. The Chianti Classico by Poggio Bonelli is every year very attractive, stylish and at the pulse of time. SUPERIORE.DE

"This shows plenty of dark plums, vanilla and tobacco. Full body and ripe, round tannins that manage to carve out an attractive structure, thanks to some firmness and acidity." James Suckling

"Here's a great, easy-drinking wine from beautiful Tuscany. The 2016 Chianti Classico is a full and generous wine from a classic vintage. The wine is streamlined and elegant, but this Sangiovese-based red wine has intense fruit and oak spice in equal measure." Robert Parker

    • "Poggiassai" Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

      “Poggiassai” Rosso Toscana IGT 2013

In the bouquet noble, typical Tuscan notes of cherries, blackberries, violets and spices. Exceptionally complex, multi-layered and excellently structured on the palate. Tannins with a good grip, intense fruit and pleasant acidity are already in perfect harmony today. The drinking pleasure builds up nicely and increases in the long final. For us it has been the attractive alternative to Antinori's famous Tignanello for years. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Poggiassai is three parts Sangiovese with one part Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a plush and darkly concentrated red wine with plum fruit and blackberry followed by licorice, crushed mineral and dark spice. The wine is smooth and soft as it wraps thickly over the palate." Robert Parker

"A dense and velvety red with dark berry, hints of vanilla and a chocolate undertone. Full body, lovely texture and a flavorful finish." James Suckling

"Fresh aromas of cherry, wild rosemary, thyme, sage, earth and tobacco signal this complex, powerful red. Builds to a solid, dense matrix of tannins by the finish, with vibrant acidity." Wine Spectator

    About the winemakers
    Poggio Bonelli
    Tuscany | Chianti
    Poggio Bonelli

As early as the 16th century, the Poggio Bonelli winery in the extreme south of Chianti Classico began to cultivate wine. Over the centuries, the estate has been owned by various noble families from Siena. At first it was inhabited by the Spennali family. In the second half of the 16th century the estate belonged to the prominent Piccolomini family. Later, the estate passed to the Landucci family. She managed the estate first alone, later with the help of the Croci family until well into the 20th century. The Poggio Bonelli estate started production in 1950. 35 years later, the 810-hectare estate was sold to MPS Tenimenti, the agricultural subsidiary of Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest bank in the world.

Today the Poggio Bonelli winery produces not only fine wines of very high quality from the fruits of 8,000 olive trees, but also extra virgin olive oil. On top of that, it runs an agriturismo business. The vineyards cover an area of 83 hectares near Castelnuovo Berardenga. There the wines find their special fullness and strength. The southern and south-western areas are planted with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The berries are strictly selected after harvesting. The soils, which date back to the Pliocene period, are rich in clay, tuff and sand.

A few years ago the restructuring of the vineyard and the winery was completed. New vineyards were planted and old wooden barrels were completely replaced. Production was streamlined to just a few labels. Poggio Bonelli's wines are vinified today in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and later matured mainly in small French oak barrels before being refined in the bottle.

Poggiassai, a cuvée of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is one of the house's top products. Star oenologist Carlo Ferrini has been on board since 1999. Together with Leonardo Pini, he closely watches over the production. SUPERIORE.DE

"Through a strict vineyard management following modern criteria, the labels of Poggio Bonelli gain an international profile, characterized by great concentration."Gambero Rosso
