• Moscato d'Asti DOCG 2018

      Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2018

Multilayered muscatel with fine mousseux. In the nose and also on the palate citrus notes, apricot and peach - rounded off by a delicate honey note. Due to the fine perlage, the sweetness almost completely takes a back seat and turns this classic into a charming, refreshing aperitif. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Anas-Cetta" Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2019

“Anas-Cetta” Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2019

Cognos Nascetta is made from the autochthonous vine of the same name, which is said to be related to the Vermentino grape. The bouquet reminds of meadow flowers, apricots and white peaches, also on the palate this fascinating harmonious aroma with elegance and freshness. An exceptionally good taste experience! SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of white peaches, dried flowers and hot stones follow through to a medium body, creamy texture and a fruity finish. Dry at the end. Fun for this grape type. Nicely done." James Suckling

"A wine that always turns heads, the Elvio Cogno 2019 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta is a mid-weight, glycerin-rich white made from an indigenous grape that is rare and dear to the region of Langa. There are aspects of this wine that remind me of the Arneis grape (another local favorite). The wine's smooth and creamy mouthfeel is one element shared between the two. So are those aromas of honey, white peach, pear and acacia flower. Aged in both stainless steel and botte grande, this wine has the textural richness to pair with white meat and even a few red meat dishes." Robert Parker

    • "Bricco dei Merli" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2018

“Bricco dei Merli” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2018

Dark ruby, in the nose dark berry fruit, after black currant, blackberries and some tobacco. Juicy on the palate, unfolds densely and round with firmly structured tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fresh and fruity with sliced berry and raspberry character. Medium body and a clean, crisp finish." James Suckling

"The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Bricco dei Merli delivers that signature balance and harmony that we see in the other wines from Elvio Cogno. Barbera can sometimes take on overblown aromas, but this wine remains steady, sweet and mildly concentrated throughout. It delivers dark fruit intensity without ever feeling heavy or too rich. From a cooler vintage, this expression of Barbera shows vibrant freshness and energy." Robert Parker

    • Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

      Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

Cognos Barbaresco from the top Bordini vineyard is a centred and firm Nebbiolo, which is rather one of the more powerful representatives of the appellation. However, it reveals its great aroma potential only at second glance: Cherry, blackberry, hints of spices and a little freshly chopped mint. Then some Spekulatius, walnut, salty tones and tobacco. Acidity and tannin form a perfect symbiosis and at the same time the backbone of this impressive Barbaresco, which will give pleasure for many years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Even at a relatively spritely age, the 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is showing some carefully evolved notes and a subdued style. The wine feels well contoured and shaped with softened layers of bramble and wild berry. There is bright elegance and grace here. Pair it with some mild goat or sheep milk cheeses, such as robiola." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is a classy, polished wine. This is an especially gracious wine from Bordini, where the Barbarescos are often bigger. Sweet spice, tobacco, menthol, licorice and cloves add lovely shades of nuance. Dark in its expression and also tightly wound, the 2016 is very nicely done." Vinous

"Rose, cherry and licorice aromas and flavors are accented by leather, tobacco and spice in this focused and complex red. Balanced, but the dusty tannins will need a year or two to integrate." Wine Spectator

"A ripe but balanced and very impressive Barbaresco. The first indications of this are the intense strawberry essence, leather, dried red plums and pretty, lifted orange rind. Beautifully mouth-filling and complex in the palate, drawing together strands of ripe tannin and flavorful fruit. Powerful on the robust but well articulated finish." James Suckling

"Camphor, dark spice, wild herbs and woodland berry aromas shape the nose. On the focused palate, bright acidity and taut, refined tannins accompany crushed raspberry, juicy Marasca cherry and star anise. Mint and orange zest notes give depth to the finish." Wine Enthusiast

Bright ruby garnet, intense bouquet with notes of licorice and tar, then rose scent and cherries. At the palate with very fine tannins, spicy, delicate and at the same time very full and clear, long and balsamic in the final. SUPERIORE.DE

Focused, concentrated cherry fruit with a rich layer of intense, powdery tannins. Very elegant, with real freshness and concentration at the same time." Jancis Robinson

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

Single vineyard Barolo Ravera from 40 to 50 year old vines smells pure and intense of raspberries, strawberries and flowers. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, beautiful fruit, super-fine tannins and a wonderful length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Beautiful flowery cherry nose that is still a little bit reductive. Balsamic hint and a touch of liquorice. Supple and with savoury minerally impact on the palate. Gorgeous balance between savoury fruit and firm, savoury tannins, like sucking ripe stalks." Jancis Robinson

"The Ravera cru of Novello is quietly growing in prestige and consistency. It is becoming one of the latest additions to an elite list of grand cru sites in the Barolo appellation. That quality is demonstrated in a difficult vintage such as this. The 2014 Barolo Ravera is a tight and polished expression with a glossy and gleaming personality. The fruit is fine-tuned and small in range, but it hits the senses with pinpoint precision. The wine shows the taut tightness of its youth and will flesh out with a few more years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"Pure cherry and strawberry fruit graces this delicate Barolo. Elements of licorice, tar and mineral add complexity and there is adequate structure. Still, this should be approachable early for the light weight and balance." Wine Spectator

"Cogno's 2014 Barolo Ravera is tense and crystalline in feel, with striking translucence and a level of purity in its flavors and textures that is beguiling. The inner tension in the 2014 is simply alluring. Bright, red-toned fruit, floral overtones and piercing saline underpinnings all come to life in this compelling, deeply expressive Barolo from Elvio Cogno." Antonio Galloni

"The fruit and depth of this wine is very pretty. With brightness and transparency. Plums, and cherries with dried flowers and spices. Medium to full body, bright fruit and acidity. A powerful finish. A fantastic 2014." James Suckling

    • Barolo Ravera "Bricco Pernice" DOCG 2014

Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” DOCG 2014

Dark cherries, menthol, flowers and tar are just some of the classic notes in the complex bouquet of Bricco Pernice from the single vineyard Ravera. On the palate, the austere structure and the great power are joined by a fine inner sweetness. In the long finish memories of damp earth, dried herbs and wild flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"Cardinal ruby with orange tinges. Savoury and distinctly minerally, still tight and compact on the nose. Immediate unity of savoury fruit, minerally and the directness and long, mouth-filling tannic tension that reminds me of Vigna Rionda. Really young, tightly wound and yet succulent." Jancis Robinson

"This has some good depth for 2014 with darker cherries delivering a stronger impression. The aromas of fresh fruit are lightly spiced and lead to a palate that has a firm and slightly chewy edge." James Suckling

"This red is juicy, offering cherry, raspberry, earth, tobacco and tar flavors. Dense tannins lend support as this stretches out nicely on the finish. Sleek and almost racy in style, with tobacco and mineral elements lingering." Wine Spectator

"The 2014 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is full and soft with great fruit density. This is a nicely balanced wine that shows more intensity than I might have expected from this cool vintage that generally produced thinner wines in comparison. There is sweet, supple spice on the close. This elegant Barolo would go nicely with a beef and pork shank cassoulet. The wine has the fiber to age beautifully, but it will also show nicely in the medium-term, for those looking for a more accessible Barolo." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Bricco Pernice is vivid, precise and flat-out stunning. Like the best wines of the year, the Bricco Pernice is going to need a bit of time to be at its very best. I find the wine's inner perfume and sweetness to be utterly beguiling. At the same time, the Bricco Pernice remains taut, classically austere and in need of cellaring." Vinous

"Lustrous mid ruby. Like the 2015 Cascina Nuova, but amplified. Great lift and focus of ripe red fruit. Ripe palate with zippy, crunchy red fruit and polished tannins. Very long, satisfying and mouth-filling without being heavy, and with intense, perfumed red fruit building up on the finish." Jancis Robinson

"Soaring aromatics make a strong opening statement in the 2015 Barolo Ravera. Bright, precise and finely sculpted, the Ravera captures all the best the 2015 vintage has to offer. Kirsch, sweet mint, hard candy and expressive floral notes are given an extra kick of inner sweetness from the natural energy of Ravera. There is so much to look forward to as the 2015 develops in bottle. This is a stellar showing" VINOUS

"This is tightly structured and dense, with burly tannins wrapped around cherry, plum, licorice, tar and menthol flavors. It’s difficult to see where this is going today, but the finish is long and will need considerable time to hit its stride." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar." Robert Parker

"Beautifully pure and seamless Barolo with superb balance. Bright strawberry and floral aromas and attractive sweet spices, leading to a palate with assertive, juicy tannins that carry rich, fresh red-plum and cherry flavor. Power with elegance." James Suckling

"New leather, balsamic herb, rose, truffle and woodland berry aromas take shape in the glass along with a whiff of charcuterie. The focused, savory palate has a great depth of flavor, doling out raspberry compote, cinnamon, crushed mint and a hint of cocoa alongside a backbone of firm tannins and fresh acidity. It still needs time to fully develop." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo Ravera "Bricco Pernice" DOCG 2015

Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” DOCG 2015

Dark cherries, menthol, flowers and tar are just some of the classic notes in the complex bouquet of the Bricco Pernice from the Ravera single vineyard. On the palate, the austere structure and great power are joined by a fine inner sweetness. In the long finish memories of damp earth, dried herbs and wild flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"Radiant, sparkling ruby red. A nose of luscious heart cherries, wild berries and a hint of rose hips, underpinned by subtle spice. Compact and dense on the palate, tightens up nicely with tightly woven tannin, saline, with clear fruit, decent persistence." Falstaff

"Lustrous mid ruby. Lots of depth and richness, yet at the same time sleek. Sweet, crushed red fruit run through by a spicy vein. Gorgeous succulent fruit, great focus and length and full spread on the finish with bags of ripe, grainy tannins. Endlessly long and succulent." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Barolo Bricco Pernice is an exotic, beguiling wine. Blood orange, mint, sweet red cherry, star anise and a range of spice notes give the Bricco Pernice striking aromatic and flavor complexity. Medium in body, refined and super-expressive, the 2015 has so much to offer. Best of all, it will drink well with just a few years in bottle. It is such an effortless, gracious wine. Very polished, nuanced and elegant, this silky Barolo has a ton of structure but is also impeccable in its balance." Vinous

"Ripe and dried-fruit character to the strawberry, floral and citrus aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied and chewy. A little subdued in the palate, but shows ripe, well-formed tannins and vivid fruit. Give it time." James Suckling

"The Elvio Cogno 2015 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice delivers the depth, richness and concentration that are a hallmark of this pretty vintage. This wine is a pure expression of the productive Lampia clone of Nebbiolo. Generous layers of blackberry, wild cherry, rose hip, ferrous earth and campfire ash are neatly folded together to build the wine's intensity. Like the other wines from this estate, the tannic management is spot-on. You are aware of the wine's youthful structure, but it is delivered without hard edges or sharp points. A mere 4,000 bottles were produced." Robert Parker

"Enticing scents of rose, iris, perfumed berry and an earthy whiff of truffle shape the fragrant nose on this dazzling wine. The delicious, full-bodied palate boasts structure and a weightless elegance, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, cherry compote, cinnamon and star anise. Taut polished tannins and fresh acidity provide balance and an elegant structure. It's already irresistible but will also age well for years." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2015 Barolo Riserva Ravera Vigna Elena is very tight - but then again, it won't be released for another two years. Intense, searing tannins Sweet red fruit, white pepper, mint, and tobacco come together in a wine that is not quite as refined as usually. This is one of the most tightly wound, classically austere Barolos readers will find in 2015, at least today. The searing tannins need time to soften, which will in turn allow the fruit to emerge more fully." Vinous

    • Barolo Ravera "Vigna Elena" Riserva DOCG 2015
MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo Ravera “Vigna Elena” Riserva DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Barely 10,000 bottles are produced each year of the Barolo Riserva "Vigna Elena", which comes entirely from vines of the Barolo single vineyard Ravera. Medium ruby red with orange reflections. Very compressed fruit, complex, balsamic and with an endless depth and excellent ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep nose of cherry and raspberry with a pinch of soy sauce. Lots of succulent cherry fruit lined with fine, polished tannins. Fantastic length and balance while the tannins deliver tactile fireworks on the finish." Jancis Robinson

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014
6 Bottles in OWC

Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Single vineyard Barolo Ravera from 40 to 50 year old vines smells pure and intense of raspberries, strawberries and flowers. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, beautiful fruit, super fine tannins and a wonderful length.

A fantastic 2014. " James Suckling

"Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Glorious nose of perfumed, intensely lifted cherry. Hints of black pepper and minerally stony notes. Compact, embryonic and concentrated fruit on the palate with bags of powdery tannins and succulent acidity. Great balance and length. Lots of potential." Jancis Robinson

"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a beautiful, precise wine. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the 2017 terrific energy that carries all the way through to the finish. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice all open with a bit of coaxing. This is very nicely done." Vinous

    About the winemakersElvio CognoPiedmont
    Elvio Cogno

The very beautiful Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is situated in Novello, off the beaten track of the Langhe, on a hill above the magnificent Ravera vineyards. The village is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The fourth generation of the family, Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno, with a sure hand and a great deal of passion, are now producing elegant and balanced wines in the classic style in a former granary, using technology sparingly. In recent years, the wines of the winery founded by Nadia's father Elvio have found a strong identity.

The 18th century manor house stands for rigour and precision. Both characteristics are reflected in the production of ten wines. Finest Barolo site wines, followed by Barbera d'Alba, dominate. The plants of the wine farm are regularly given high ratings by relevant critics. Right from his first appearance, the best parcels of the Ravera vineyard were used for the "Barolo Bricco Pernice" from the wine guide Gambero Rossowith "Three glasses" excellent.

Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta are the names of the autochthonous grape varieties consistently cultivated in the vineyards. A few years ago, the historical white Anas-cëtta variety, cultivated in the Novello area, was revived in the estate. It produces wines of brilliant straw-yellow colour with golden reflections. In the vineyards, the Cogno family works in an environmentally conscious manner without the use of pesticides. The dynamic couple deliberately keep the yield per hectare low and always strive to ensure the organic balance of the vines.

The visitor area is very characteristic for the winery. It is extremely inviting, lovingly designed down to the smallest detail and harmoniously blends into the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Langhe. SUPERIORE.DE

"The high quality profile of this company remains unbroken ... The entire bottle battery is reliable and convincingly expresses the potential of its terroir."Gambero Rosso
