• "Vigna del Mandorlo" Dolcetto d'Alba DOC 2019

“Vigna del Mandorlo” Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2019

Cognos classic Dolcetto Vigna del Mandorlo fascinates with a complex bouquet. The juicy taste is carried by fine tannin and shows a wonderful bitter almond tone in the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Elvio Cogno 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Mandorlo is a beautifully fragrant expression of the grape, with impressive purity and focus. Dark cherry and fresh blueberry are followed by crushed limestone or white stone. The wine is only aged in stainless steel, and the vineyards see calcareous-rich soils. The wine is lean, almost mid-weight in terms of density, but it shows the simple balance and harmony to pair with Ascoli olives, or olive ascolana, that are fried and stuffed with minced pork and bread crumbs." Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2018

Multilayered muscatel with fine mousseux. In the nose and also on the palate citrus notes, apricot and peach - rounded off by a delicate honey note. Due to the fine perlage, the sweetness almost completely takes a back seat and turns this classic into a charming, refreshing aperitif. SUPERIORE.DE

The Langhe Montegrilli, a pure Nebbiolo, exudes wonderful, strong fruit aromas in its fragrance and on the palate, along with some rose petals with a touch of vanilla. A delicious wine between tradition and modernity with the typical elegance of Cogno wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is incredibly thin and light, with little mass or density at all. It's very easy drinking and as clean as a whistle. This feather-light red is a treat. It's rare to see this sort of expression of Nebbiolo, and I love it. I'm thinking it might pair well with paper-thin bresaola on bread." Robert Parker

"Lots of impressive red, blue and darker fruit for a nebbiolo; this is brimming with boysenberries, blueberries, violets and lavender. Medium-bodied and quite chewy for this category with pretty structure and drive." James Suckling

    • "Anas-Cetta" Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2019

“Anas-Cetta” Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2019

Cognos Nascetta is made from the autochthonous vine of the same name, which is said to be related to the Vermentino grape. The bouquet reminds of meadow flowers, apricots and white peaches, also on the palate this fascinating harmonious aroma with elegance and freshness. An exceptionally good taste experience! SUPERIORE.DE

"Aromas of white peaches, dried flowers and hot stones follow through to a medium body, creamy texture and a fruity finish. Dry at the end. Fun for this grape type. Nicely done." James Suckling

"A wine that always turns heads, the Elvio Cogno 2019 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta is a mid-weight, glycerin-rich white made from an indigenous grape that is rare and dear to the region of Langa. There are aspects of this wine that remind me of the Arneis grape (another local favorite). The wine's smooth and creamy mouthfeel is one element shared between the two. So are those aromas of honey, white peach, pear and acacia flower. Aged in both stainless steel and botte grande, this wine has the textural richness to pair with white meat and even a few red meat dishes." Robert Parker

Dark ruby, in the nose dark berry fruit, after black currant, blackberries and some tobacco. Juicy on the palate, unfolds densely and round with firmly structured tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"Plump, ripe fruit and cherry-covered chocolate overflow from this generous 2017 Barbera d'Alba Bricco dei Merli. This is a beautiful and fruit-forward expression with delicious fruit intensity and lots of succulent ripeness. Enjoy it with a decadently cheesy penne alla Norma." Robert Parker

"Another very successful barbera with subtle citrus character, dried violets and lavender. Medium-bodied yet quite spicy, this paints bright, dark fruit in watercolors." James Suckling

"Cogno's 2017 Barbera d'Alba Bricco dei Merli is dark, sumptuous and wonderfully inviting. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, spice and sweet pipe tobacco add shades of nuance to a Barbera that captures the richness of the year while also retaining a mid-weight sense of structure. Impeccable in its balance, the 2017 has so much to offer." Vinous

    • Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

      Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

Cognos Barbaresco from the top Bordini vineyard is a centred and firm Nebbiolo, which is rather one of the more powerful representatives of the appellation. However, it reveals its great aroma potential only at second glance: Cherry, blackberry, hints of spices and a little freshly chopped mint. Then some Spekulatius, walnut, salty tones and tobacco. Acidity and tannin form a perfect symbiosis and at the same time the backbone of this impressive Barbaresco, which will give pleasure for many years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Even at a relatively spritely age, the 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is showing some carefully evolved notes and a subdued style. The wine feels well contoured and shaped with softened layers of bramble and wild berry. There is bright elegance and grace here. Pair it with some mild goat or sheep milk cheeses, such as robiola." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is a classy, polished wine. This is an especially gracious wine from Bordini, where the Barbarescos are often bigger. Sweet spice, tobacco, menthol, licorice and cloves add lovely shades of nuance. Dark in its expression and also tightly wound, the 2016 is very nicely done." Vinous

"Rose, cherry and licorice aromas and flavors are accented by leather, tobacco and spice in this focused and complex red. Balanced, but the dusty tannins will need a year or two to integrate." Wine Spectator

"A ripe but balanced and very impressive Barbaresco. The first indications of this are the intense strawberry essence, leather, dried red plums and pretty, lifted orange rind. Beautifully mouth-filling and complex in the palate, drawing together strands of ripe tannin and flavorful fruit. Powerful on the robust but well articulated finish." James Suckling

"Camphor, dark spice, wild herbs and woodland berry aromas shape the nose. On the focused palate, bright acidity and taut, refined tannins accompany crushed raspberry, juicy Marasca cherry and star anise. Mint and orange zest notes give depth to the finish." Wine Enthusiast

      Barolo “Cascina Nuova” DOCG 2016

Bright ruby garnet, intense bouquet with notes of liquorice and tar, then rose and cherry. On the palate with very fine tannins, spicy, delicate and at the same time very rich and clear, long and balsamic in the final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Youthful garnet; aromas of fresh morel cherry, strawberry jam and thyme. Medium-bodied with good to very good concentration. Low-key style of Barolo. Very good acidity, good persistence, well integrated oak notes and medium-weight tannins that are nicely balanced." Forbes

"Lustrous mid ruby. Signature depth of fruit combined with finesse. Spice and minerals, cherry and raspberry with a suggestion of liquorice. There is a certain leggerezza but at the same time profound and deep but without being heavy. Fine, firm long grainy tannins clinging to the fruit. Composed energy. Easily one of the best-buy wines of the vintage." Jancis Robinson

"Cogno's 2016 Barolo Cascina Nuova is absolutely gorgeous. Pliant and expressive on the palate, the 2016 has a touch more mid-palate sweetness and texture than in the past, when the wine has been more nervous in feel. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, wild flowers, cedar, sweet tobacco and anise all open up effortlessly. Silky tannins add to its considerable immediacy and appeal. This is such a pretty wine in its peer group and also a terrific example of how attractive more modestly priced Barolos are in 2016." Vinous

"Of the four Elvio Cogno Baroli out on the market now, this wine is the most immediate and accessible of the bunch. Production is an ample 20,000 bottles. The 2016 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a terrific wine with impeccable balance. The bouquet offers dark fruit aromas, licorice, smoke, tar and spice. These aromatic pieces slide together with precision to create an intriguing and multifaceted puzzle. It shows good fruit weight and concentration, reinforced by firm tannins, freshness and a silky mouthfeel. This is a terrific go-to Barolo from a classic vintage." Robert Parker

"Rose, woodland berry and baking spice shape the nose along with crushed mint notes on this fragrant red. The savory, polished palate boasts succulent raspberry, ripe strawberry and white pepper before taut tannins and bright acidity reveal a firm, elegant structure. Star anise lingers on the finish." Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

Single vineyard Barolo Ravera from 40 to 50 year old vines smells pure and intense of raspberries, strawberries and flowers. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, beautiful fruit, super-fine tannins and a wonderful length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Beautiful flowery cherry nose that is still a little bit reductive. Balsamic hint and a touch of liquorice. Supple and with savoury minerally impact on the palate. Gorgeous balance between savoury fruit and firm, savoury tannins, like sucking ripe stalks." Jancis Robinson

"The Ravera cru of Novello is quietly growing in prestige and consistency. It is becoming one of the latest additions to an elite list of grand cru sites in the Barolo appellation. That quality is demonstrated in a difficult vintage such as this. The 2014 Barolo Ravera is a tight and polished expression with a glossy and gleaming personality. The fruit is fine-tuned and small in range, but it hits the senses with pinpoint precision. The wine shows the taut tightness of its youth and will flesh out with a few more years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"Pure cherry and strawberry fruit graces this delicate Barolo. Elements of licorice, tar and mineral add complexity and there is adequate structure. Still, this should be approachable early for the light weight and balance." Wine Spectator

"Cogno's 2014 Barolo Ravera is tense and crystalline in feel, with striking translucence and a level of purity in its flavors and textures that is beguiling. The inner tension in the 2014 is simply alluring. Bright, red-toned fruit, floral overtones and piercing saline underpinnings all come to life in this compelling, deeply expressive Barolo from Elvio Cogno." Antonio Galloni

"The fruit and depth of this wine is very pretty. With brightness and transparency. Plums, and cherries with dried flowers and spices. Medium to full body, bright fruit and acidity. A powerful finish. A fantastic 2014." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Elvio Cogno
    Piedmont
    Elvio Cogno

The very beautiful Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is situated in Novello, off the beaten track of the Langhe, on a hill above the magnificent Ravera vineyards. The village is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The fourth generation of the family, Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno, with a sure hand and a great deal of passion, are now producing elegant and balanced wines in the classic style in a former granary, using technology sparingly. In recent years, the wines of the winery founded by Nadia's father Elvio have found a strong identity.

The 18th century manor house stands for rigour and precision. Both characteristics are reflected in the production of ten wines. Finest Barolo site wines, followed by Barbera d'Alba, dominate. The plants of the wine farm are regularly given high ratings by relevant critics. Right from his first appearance, the best parcels of the Ravera vineyard were used for the "Barolo Bricco Pernice" from the wine guide Gambero Rossowith "Three glasses" excellent.

Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta are the names of the autochthonous grape varieties consistently cultivated in the vineyards. A few years ago, the historical white Anas-cëtta variety, cultivated in the Novello area, was revived in the estate. It produces wines of brilliant straw-yellow colour with golden reflections. In the vineyards, the Cogno family works in an environmentally conscious manner without the use of pesticides. The dynamic couple deliberately keep the yield per hectare low and always strive to ensure the organic balance of the vines.

The visitor area is very characteristic for the winery. It is extremely inviting, lovingly designed down to the smallest detail and harmoniously blends into the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Langhe. SUPERIORE.DE
