      Moscato d’Asti DOCG 2018

Multilayered muscatel with fine mousseux. In the nose and also on the palate citrus notes, apricot and peach - rounded off by a delicate honey note. Due to the fine perlage, the sweetness almost completely takes a back seat and turns this classic into a charming, refreshing aperitif. SUPERIORE.DE

      “Montegrilli” Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2018

The Langhe Montegrilli, a pure Nebbiolo, exudes wonderful, strong fruit aromas in its fragrance and on the palate, in addition a little rose petals with a hint of vanilla. A delicious wine between tradition and modernity with the typical elegance of Cogno wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo Montegrilli is incredibly thin and light, with little mass or density at all. It's very easy drinking and as clean as a whistle. This feather-light red is a treat. It's rare to see this sort of expression of Nebbiolo, and I love it. I'm thinking it might pair well with paper-thin bresaola on bread." Robert Parker

    • "Anas-Cetta" Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2018

“Anas-Cetta” Nascetta di Novello Langhe DOC 2018

Cognos Nascetta is made from the autochthonous vine of the same name, which is said to be related to the Vermentino grape. The bouquet is reminiscent of meadow blossoms, apricots and white peaches, also on the palate this fascinating harmonious aroma with elegance and freshness. An exceptionally good taste experience! SUPERIORE.DE

"The Cogno Anas Cëtta made from the Nascetta variety that is from the commune of Novello where the winery is located, is the prototype for this variety. Extended lees aging provides texture, and the wine has an intriguing subtle herbal note. Good natural acidity ensures longevity; six and seven-year old versions are most enjoyable." Forbes Magazine

"This is a very interesting wine. On first nose, the 2018 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta offers a touch of smoke and bacon fat that comes as a bit of a surprise. You might expect a lean and inconsequential white, but this expression of the delicate and somewhat uncommon Nascetta grape (that this estate has championed over the years) delivers much more intensity and momentum than you might initially expect. That bacon fat is followed by campfire ash and ripe fruit. This is a great one for connoisseurs of lesser-known Italian varieties." Robert Parker

Dark ruby, dark berry fruit in the nose, blackcurrant, blackberry and some tobacco. Juicy on the palate, dense and round unfolding with firmly structured tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"Plump, ripe fruit and cherry-covered chocolate overflow from this generous 2017 Barbera d'Alba Bricco dei Merli. This is a beautiful and fruit-forward expression with delicious fruit intensity and lots of succulent ripeness. Enjoy it with a decadently cheesy penne alla Norma." Robert Parker

"Vanilla, blackberry, plum and earth flavors ply the dense, burly profile of this powerful red. Fresh and balanced, giving this the possibility to develop well over time. Comes together nicely on the finish, where a floral element emerges." Wine Spectator

    • Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2015

      Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2015

Cognos Barbaresco from the top vineyard Bordini is a centred and firm Nebbiolo, which is rather one of the stronger representatives of the appellation. However, it only reveals its great aromatic potential at second glance: Cherry, blackberry, hints of spices and a little freshly chopped mint. Then some speculoos, walnuts, salty tones and tobacco. Acidity and tannin form a perfect symbiosis and at the same time the backbone of this impressive Barbaresco, which will be a pleasure for many years. SUPERIORE.DE

"A top note of mint augments the cherry, strawberry, eucalyptus and tar flavors in this austere red. Assertive tannins gird the finish, yet this remains long and finds equilibrium in the end." Wine Spectator

"Aromas of cherries, cream and roses follow through to a medium body with beautifully depth of fruit and a long, fine tannin structure. Hard to not drink now. Better in 2020, but it’s already beautiful." James Suckling

"Although Cogno are better known for their Barolos, they also produce a Barbaresco from 1ha in Neive. The nose is still muted, with discreet raspberry aromas. The palate is fresh, vibrant and concentrated, showing zest as well as weight. There's plenty of energy and drive here, followed by a long, forceful finish." Decanter

"Compelling aromas of fragrant blue flower, red berry, crushed herb, new leather and tilled earth shape the nose. On the savory, full-bodied palate, taut, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity frame flavors of ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and tobacco. It's young but already boasts a fantastic combination of elegance and structure." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

      Barbaresco Bordini DOCG 2016

Cognos Barbaresco from the top Bordini vineyard is a centred and firm Nebbiolo, which is rather one of the more powerful representatives of the appellation. However, it reveals its great aroma potential only at second glance: Cherry, blackberry, hints of spices and a little freshly chopped mint. Then some Spekulatius, walnut, salty tones and tobacco. Acidity and tannin form a perfect symbiosis and at the same time the backbone of this impressive Barbaresco, which will give pleasure for many years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Even at a relatively spritely age, the 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is showing some carefully evolved notes and a subdued style. The wine feels well contoured and shaped with softened layers of bramble and wild berry. There is bright elegance and grace here. Pair it with some mild goat or sheep milk cheeses, such as robiola." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Barbaresco Bordini is a classy, polished wine. This is an especially gracious wine from Bordini, where the Barbarescos are often bigger. Sweet spice, tobacco, menthol, licorice and cloves add lovely shades of nuance. Dark in its expression and also tightly wound, the 2016 is very nicely done." Vinous

"Rose, cherry and licorice aromas and flavors are accented by leather, tobacco and spice in this focused and complex red. Balanced, but the dusty tannins will need a year or two to integrate." Wine Spectator

"A ripe but balanced and very impressive Barbaresco. The first indications of this are the intense strawberry essence, leather, dried red plums and pretty, lifted orange rind. Beautifully mouth-filling and complex in the palate, drawing together strands of ripe tannin and flavorful fruit. Powerful on the robust but well articulated finish." James Suckling

"Camphor, dark spice, wild herbs and woodland berry aromas shape the nose. On the focused palate, bright acidity and taut, refined tannins accompany crushed raspberry, juicy Marasca cherry and star anise. Mint and orange zest notes give depth to the finish." Wine Enthusiast

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

Single vineyard Barolo Ravera from 40 to 50 year old vines smells pure and intense of raspberries, strawberries and flowers. Full-bodied and silky on the palate, beautiful fruit, super-fine tannins and a wonderful length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Beautiful flowery cherry nose that is still a little bit reductive. Balsamic hint and a touch of liquorice. Supple and with savoury minerally impact on the palate. Gorgeous balance between savoury fruit and firm, savoury tannins, like sucking ripe stalks." Jancis Robinson

"The Ravera cru of Novello is quietly growing in prestige and consistency. It is becoming one of the latest additions to an elite list of grand cru sites in the Barolo appellation. That quality is demonstrated in a difficult vintage such as this. The 2014 Barolo Ravera is a tight and polished expression with a glossy and gleaming personality. The fruit is fine-tuned and small in range, but it hits the senses with pinpoint precision. The wine shows the taut tightness of its youth and will flesh out with a few more years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"Pure cherry and strawberry fruit graces this delicate Barolo. Elements of licorice, tar and mineral add complexity and there is adequate structure. Still, this should be approachable early for the light weight and balance." Wine Spectator

"Cogno's 2014 Barolo Ravera is tense and crystalline in feel, with striking translucence and a level of purity in its flavors and textures that is beguiling. The inner tension in the 2014 is simply alluring. Bright, red-toned fruit, floral overtones and piercing saline underpinnings all come to life in this compelling, deeply expressive Barolo from Elvio Cogno." Antonio Galloni

"The fruit and depth of this wine is very pretty. With brightness and transparency. Plums, and cherries with dried flowers and spices. Medium to full body, bright fruit and acidity. A powerful finish. A fantastic 2014." James Suckling

"Lustrous mid ruby. Like the 2015 Cascina Nuova, but amplified. Great lift and focus of ripe red fruit. Ripe palate with zippy, crunchy red fruit and polished tannins. Very long, satisfying and mouth-filling without being heavy, and with intense, perfumed red fruit building up on the finish." Jancis Robinson

"Soaring aromatics make a strong opening statement in the 2015 Barolo Ravera. Bright, precise and finely sculpted, the Ravera captures all the best the 2015 vintage has to offer. Kirsch, sweet mint, hard candy and expressive floral notes are given an extra kick of inner sweetness from the natural energy of Ravera. There is so much to look forward to as the 2015 develops in bottle. This is a stellar showing" VINOUS

"This is tightly structured and dense, with burly tannins wrapped around cherry, plum, licorice, tar and menthol flavors. It’s difficult to see where this is going today, but the finish is long and will need considerable time to hit its stride." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar." Robert Parker

"Beautifully pure and seamless Barolo with superb balance. Bright strawberry and floral aromas and attractive sweet spices, leading to a palate with assertive, juicy tannins that carry rich, fresh red-plum and cherry flavor. Power with elegance." James Suckling

"New leather, balsamic herb, rose, truffle and woodland berry aromas take shape in the glass along with a whiff of charcuterie. The focused, savory palate has a great depth of flavor, doling out raspberry compote, cinnamon, crushed mint and a hint of cocoa alongside a backbone of firm tannins and fresh acidity. It still needs time to fully develop." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo Ravera "Bricco Pernice" DOCG 2012

Barolo Ravera “Bricco Pernice” DOCG 2012

Dark cherries, menthol, flowers and tar are just a few of the classic notes in the complex bouquet of Bricco Pernice, which from vintage 2012 comes exclusively from Ravera vines. On the palate, a fine inner sweetness joins the austere structure and great power. In the long finish memories of damp earth, dried herbs and wild flowers. Beautiful! SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Barolo Bricco Pernice is gracious, aromatic and lifted. Bright red cherry, blood orange and white pepper are some of the many notes that lift from the glass. Deceptively medium in body, the 2012 offers notable intensity in the way that only Nebbiolo can deliver. The tannins are naturally quite raw at this stage, so patience is essential." Antonio Galloni

"Lustrous ruby with narrow orange rim. Firm, concentrated nose that is really distinct with notes of red and dark fruit and a hint of rusty nails. Powerful and at the same time composed palate. Richly tannic and perfectly integrated with the fruit. Great acidity and a wonderful chewy length. Super stylish and hedonistic. Almost Serralunga-like tannins." Jancis Robinson

"Offers an appealing grassy aroma characteristic of the '12s, along with dusty cherry, graphite, tobacco and tar flavors. Dense and compact, yet fresh, lingering with savory elements of tobacco and mineral." Wine Spectator

"This wine is not labeled Riserva but it could be because it is released with an additional year of aging in both barrel and bottle. The 2012 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is a dark and velvety wine with a broad aromatic reach. Compared to 2013, this vintage is less successful, in my mind, when it comes to clarity and aromatic focus. This wine shows less depth as a result. The bouquet is powerful and broad with black fruit, prune and dark spice. The finish shows weight and concentration." Robert Parker

    Elvio Cogno

The very beautiful Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is situated in Novello, off the beaten track of the Langhe, on a hill above the magnificent Ravera vineyards. The village is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The fourth generation of the family, Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno, with a sure hand and a great deal of passion, are now producing elegant and balanced wines in the classic style in a former granary, using technology sparingly. In recent years, the wines of the winery founded by Nadia's father Elvio have found a strong identity.

The 18th century manor house stands for rigour and precision. Both characteristics are reflected in the production of ten wines. Finest Barolo site wines, followed by Barbera d'Alba, dominate. The plants of the wine farm are regularly given high ratings by relevant critics. Right from his first appearance, the best parcels of the Ravera vineyard were used for the "Barolo Bricco Pernice" from the wine guide Gambero Rossowith "Three glasses" excellent.

Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta are the names of the autochthonous grape varieties consistently cultivated in the vineyards. A few years ago, the historical white Anas-cëtta variety, cultivated in the Novello area, was revived in the estate. It produces wines of brilliant straw-yellow colour with golden reflections. In the vineyards, the Cogno family works in an environmentally conscious manner without the use of pesticides. The dynamic couple deliberately keep the yield per hectare low and always strive to ensure the organic balance of the vines.

The visitor area is very characteristic for the winery. It is extremely inviting, lovingly designed down to the smallest detail and harmoniously blends into the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the Langhe. SUPERIORE.DE
