The vines of this single-vineyard Barbera are rooted at the highest point of the hill in the renowned Ravera and Pasinotti vineyards near Novello. Grown on soils rich in limestone and clay with a south-south-easterly exposure at an altitude of 300-400 metres, the wine reflects both elegance and a clear origin. The wine matures for around 12 months in large Slavonian wooden barrels, which give it depth without masking the freshness of the fruit.

Brilliant ruby red in the glass with a delicate purple lustre. The nose is deep and fine: notes of ripe wild berries, plum, rose and spicy herbs unfold, accompanied by the scent of violets and a hint of oriental spices that lend depth. The fresh acidity enlivens the juicy fruit, while the fine tannins provide structure. The finish is long and savoury, with a slightly salty mineral touch – typical of the high altitudes of this spectacular Piedmont setting. Barbera can sometimes take on exaggerated and bold flavours, but Cognos Barbera offers a beautiful intensity of dark fruit without ever being heavy or too rich. SUPERIORE.DE
