Mediterra with inviting aromas of paprika, red currant, sage and black pepper is round and harmonious on the palate with beautiful fruit and spice, a perfect accompaniment to food. SUPERIORE.DE

Slightly grassy on the nose in the first aroma, then after raspberries and gooseberries, white pepper, in the aftertaste after black currants, needs some air to settle down. • "Solosole Pagus Camilla" Vermentino Bolgheri DOC 2016

“Solosole Pagus Camilla” Vermentino Bolgheri DOC 2016

Pagus Camilla comes from a small plot of land called "Camilla" near the Sondraia vineyards. Here, the Vermentino grape undergoes a higher concentration during ripening with delicate hints of Riesling. This "project wine", produced in small quantities, is a unique example of the potential of this grape variety in Bolgheri. Pure and beautiful, citrus aroma, salt, minerality and full fruit, balanced, long and with very good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Vermentino Solosole Pagus Camilla is done in a slightly richer, oilier style than the straight Solosole. Apricot, chamomile and exotic floral notes make a strong first impression. Aging on the lees and a touch of skin contact brings out quite a bit of textural resonance to frame the wine beautifully." Vinous

"The 2016 Bolgheri Vermentino Solosole Pagus Camilla represents a special selection of grapes from the Fosse Camilla vineyard. The wine delivers great structure, bright citrus flavors and a spicy close. It sees four days of skin maceration—it is made almost like a red wine but at lower temperatures. This is a terrific wine that can pair with any seafood dish." Robert Parker

"This is the best vermentino I have ever had from Italy. Wonderful concentration and freshness with sliced, dried mango, pineapple and honey character. Full-bodied, layered and intense. Wonderful length." James Suckling

    • "Sondraia" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2017

      “Sondraia” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2017

Sondraia - a Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Merlot and Cabernet Franc - has a bright colour and a clear, warm scent of blueberry, raspberry, black cherry and undergrowth. Its intense flavour is powerful, characterised by fine-grained tannin and a seemingly endless aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Complex blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc: fruity and spicy nose of black berries, dark chocolate and tea; the tannins are powdery, combining opulence, juiciness and density, ending on chubby notes of forest fruits and sandalwood." Vinum

"Deep dark garnet. Wood-spicy nose of dark berries, spices, rich cherries, then lots of dark chocolate, minimally malty in the aftertaste. Opens up densely and richly on the palate, warmhearted with a rich melt, well-integrated wood tannin, still young, will reach its peak in a few years." Falstaff

"This shows depth and richness with chewy tannins and lots of fruit and flavor. Full-bodied and structured." James Suckling

"Sondraia has increased in quality (and price). In 2017 it has an earthy minerality with spice complexity of clove, bark and walnut husk, supporting vibrant, ripe fruit. The mid-palate is very extracted yet velvety, leading to a warming finish." Decanter

“Teos” Petit Manseng Passito Toscana 2014 · in OWC

This Trockenbeerenauslese from Petit Manseng is a rarity in the smallest edition of not even 1,000 bottles. The overripe, dried grapes are only harvested at the end of November/beginning of December and pressed to this very fine and highly elegant Passito. A deep golden yellow, rich bouquet with aromas of pickled fruits such as apricots and mild spices, on the palate a rich, fully ripe fruit with pleasant sweetness and harmonious, citrus acidity. Remarkably long and persistent. SUPERIORE.DE

"Packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle, the 2014 Teos is a pure expression of Petit Manseng made with air-dried grapes. This delicate dessert wine opens to a golden amber color, with notes of honey and toasted chestnut. The acidity in this passito is very high and is the wine's winning card. The process used to make this wine is similar to Recito di Soave, with one month of appassimento in plastic crates." Robert Parker

    • "Dedicato a Walter" Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2015

“Dedicato a Walter” Bolgheri Superiore DOC 2015

Dedicato a Walter - in memory of Walter. Marilisa and Franco Allegrini dedicated this pure Cabernet Franc from their own vineyards on the Via Bolgherese to their oldest brother, who died in 2003. The 2015 vintage marks the beginning of an even more radical focus on the terroir and the quality of the grapes. For the first time, a third less bottles were filled from the 2015 vintage. The result is now a Bolgheri Superiore made from their own grapes from the core zone of Bolgheri, which can hardly be surpassed in elegance and character.

Compact and elegant Cabernet Franc with fine tobacco notes, ripe blackcurrant aromas, some pepper and eucalyptus, in addition slightly earthy tones. Dense fruit and polished tannin on the palate, clear, rich final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Cabernet Franc in purezza: beguiling berry aromas, herbal and vanilla notes; the robust tannins and the noticeable acidity in harmony, spicy-fruity finish, also notes of cloves and leather. Can mature. Perfect companion to a roasted wild boar." Vinum

"lush ruby with a violet tint. Very memorable nose, opens with notes of cigar box and butter biscuits, then lots of dark berry fruit, some tobacco. Dense and supple at the base and flow, spreads out with great power, clear fruit, present and spicy." Falstaff

"Sweet ripe black cherry and blackberry fruit is matched to toasty oak and accents of licorice, tobacco and iron in this rich red. Fluid, with light tannins keeping this honest on the finish." Wine Spectator

"A pretty nose that shows lots of cabernet character with eucalyptus, fresh herbs, grass and then plenty of blackcurrants, iodine and hot stones. I love the richness to the essence-like dark fruit here with round tannins and plenty of spice undertones. A big, flavorful finish." James Suckling

"The 2015 Dedicato a Walter shows why Cabernet Franc is such an exciting variety on the Tuscan Coast. Rich and explosive in the glass, the 2015 soars with inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, mocha and wild flowers. The purity of the flavors is just striking. This is another super-classic wine from Poggio al Tesoro that captures the essence of what Bolgheri is all about." Vinous

"The 2015 Bolgheri Superiore Dedicato A Walter is a pure expression of Cabernet Franc, offering mineral essences of sea shell, clay and round rocks. This wine is supremely elegant, with dark fruit, spice and a touch of Mediterranean herb. The tannins are integrated and gorgeous. This vintage was aged in 100% new oak. The winemaking team has shortened the time in wood to 24 months and increased the time in bottle to ten months. (They are aiming for 12 months in bottle with the upcoming vintages.) Still, the wine will benefit from even more time in the cellar to express itself fully. Bravi." Robert Parker

About the winemakersPoggio al TesoroTuscany | Bolgheri
    Poggio al Tesoro

Three kilometres from the Tyrrhenian Sea and about 45 kilometres south of Livorno lies the Tenuta Poggio al Tesoro. It borders directly on the Ornellaia winery. The 70 hectare farm in Bolgheri is run by the Allegrini family from the Verona area together with the Italian American and famous wine merchant Leonardo Lo Cascio. The estate manager and her partner have long been known for high-quality red wines in the Valpolicella region. Founded shortly after the turn of the millennium, the company in Bolgheri has consistently continued its upward trend in recent years and today represents the West Tuscan cultivation area very convincingly.

The winery owns three plots of land, of which two in the Bolgheri territory make up the lion's share of the total area. Another area, about six hectares in size, is located in the neighbouring municipality of Bibbona. Because of the scattered cultivation zones - ranging from the sea to the more hilly inland areas - the soils differ. Coarse-grained reddish sand dominates in the locations particularly favoured by nature. The subsoil has high skeletal and clay content, is permeable and thus favours the drainage of water. In other zones the soils are heavy and very sandy. On the sandy and stony plots, Cabernet is the main cultivar, while the clayey and mineral-rich soils are mainly reserved for Merlot. The main vineyards are Via Bolgherese, Le Grottine, Le Sondraie and Valle di Cerbaia. Sites such as Le Sondraie are not only home to foreign red varieties, but also form an excellent base for excellent white grapes such as Vermentino.

After considerable investments, the Tenuta Poggio al Tesoro is now in optimal conditions to produce wonderful crescents. The red wines of the house combine power and complexity and are precisely met. They are by no means lacking elegant features. Among the best wines are the IGT wine Dedicato a Walter made exclusively from Cabernet Franc and the Bolgheri Superiore Sondraia, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The noble wines of Poggio al Tesoro are regularly highly praised by the critics' guild.

The fact that the winery is so important in the denomination is also due to the far-sightedness of Walter Allegrini from Valpolicella. The winegrower, who had died in the meantime, had always been involved in the family business and had made decisive improvements based on his own experiments. It is also responsible for the diversification of the terroir and the grape varieties. SUPERIORE.DE

"The wines remain faithful to the ideas of their creators and demonstrate a precise style and enviable consistency. A safe tip at a high level in this overcrowded wine country."Gambero Rosso
